Update 03/03/2023It had been a while so I ordered the 1/2 lbs. burger which is with two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.Wow, why did I wait so long:).It was delicious. fresh, hot and tasty.If you havent tried this place and like burgers, do yourself a favor and try it, you will not be disappointed.By the way this burger was $8.75, CRAZY!Absolutely one of the best cheeseburgers I have had to date and there has been a few all over the country.The patties were cooked to perfection with melted cheese all over.The produce used was fresh.The flavor was outrageously good.I will go back for sure and take family and friends.07/29/2022 Update- Today it was even better than the last time. you taste the care they put into their food. Burger is well seasoned, the bun is fresh and the greens are fresh as can be with good quality dill pickles. I absolutely enjoyed my lunch very much. Did I mention the burger was only $7.80 including tax? There you go:)YOU NEED TO TRY THIS PLACE, I PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Char-burger is still as good and thick as I remember it fifteen years later. The fire grilled flavor really comes through. Service was friendly from the young men holding down the cash register but a little more acknowledgement or attentiveness to the customers wouldnt hurt. The building itself inside and out could use some sprucing up and a designers touch but I come for the tasty burgers. Oh and cant forget to mention the great hand made shakes!

If youre looking for something fancy you need to find a different place; However, if you want an old school style hamburger and other like comfort foods, you need to try this place out. What a great burger with that open fire char flavor that I love and with fries that are pretty darn good too. More matchstick style then most places, but they are very good.

This place stood the test of time. I hadnt been here for over 30 years. I ordered a chocolate shake large fries and 1/3 lb cheeseburger.Attempted to sit at the inside counter, boiling hot, no a/c. It was cooler outside where it was 95 degrees than at the counter.Cheeseburger was good, fries though numerous were tasteless, shake was very good.It will be another 30 years before I ever go back.

The burgers are a classic diner style cheesy and and delicious. The beef is juicy, bread is airy, and the beef has a great smell with a light yet noticeable and tasty char to it. Feels like a real backyard burger from the past. The fries were also very tasty and fresh, made when I ordered it and had the perfect combination of crispiness and fluffiness. The entire burger itself is only off 1 star due to a lack of anything extraordinary in terms of flavour but it is an otherwise terrific burger that I highly recommend, definitely hits the spot.

Dont let the facility exterior turn you away. A very unique location with walk through order window and interior with a homey/old time feeling inside. The facility did have some strange issues like the chairs being a little warped, but good food at a good price. Lettuce wrapped burgers were wrapped thoroughly and didnt spill. Service was helpful and attentive as well.

One of the most underrated burger joints in the tri-valley. Fries are not overly salty. Double char burger with cheese is great and a super solid BLT. My favorite is they actually sell chocolate malts which you dont see very often. Total grease pit but man is it good, just dont expect anything fancy.

Great little local place for your standard burgers and fries. The steak sandwich, thinly-sliced ribeye, was my pick on my first visit to this restaurant, and while simply prepared, it was tender and delicious! The skinny fries are a classic, and I even ordered a side of pickles that was better than expected! For a well-priced burger, Ill be back!

Outdated greasy burger joint. Waited to get a table and had to wipe it off with napkins ourselves. Then waited about 30 minutes to get our food and it definitely wasnt worth the wait. Or the price. It was almost $40 for 2 burgers, 2 drinks and a side of fries. The burger tasted burnt and the bun was hard. Other than char it didnt really taste like anything. Never offered a drink refill and the server seemed a bit too busy to bother. Not a good experience and we wouldnt return.

Got Super cheeseburger. Lettuce, toms, red onion, mayo on both buns annnnd they season their meat...I got extra.That burger was really really good!The only thing......they have 2 1/2 cooks but can only do 1 order at a time. Lady in front of me had a big order...enough for 3-4 people and their were 2 others waiting aannd drivers picking up orders. I get 30 mins for lunch. 1 1/3lb cheeseburger, 1 sm fries and 1 med drink took 22mins!!!!!!Other than that....its a good place.

The food is really tasty! It stayed hot on the car ride home. If you order to go there it takes about 20 minutes, but it is definitely worth the wait! I love that they let you salt your own fries, they dont even need salt! The onion rings are so good!

Waitresses at Johns are the best. Pretty great little char burger and great onion rings. Lots of people making note that there is no atmosphere, but Johns is precisely the atmosphere you want in a throwback burger grill. Kitchen is in view and looks really clean for being some classic equipment. This is the kind of place that makes Livermore great and not just another new plaza with another The Habit somewhere in the East Bay.

If you are looking for a place that treats you based off your looks and appearance well you found the perfect place!!! I went here recently for lunch and the blonde woman who takes orders seemed to treat me a bit rude, very blunt answers, seemed to treat me based off my appearance! I was in my work clothes but regardless of my appearance, I should be treated with the same respect as anyone else in the restaurant. The order took forever and to make matters even worse, there was a hair in my burger =( I dont know why she would treat me in such a way simply based off my appearance. Very disappointed. I hope the owner sees this so that he/she knows that people are treated based off their appearance. I was respectful and used manners but it didnt matter. I asked for ketchup and ranch and she cut me off saying that it was in the bag, she clearly wanted me gone asap! I almost forgot, at the very beginning of our interaction when we walked in she asked what we wanted. No menu just what do you want I am never coming back to this place again.

Took my son to an oldie and goodie livermore establishment and he is a former restanteur. He was very impressed with their genuine approach to what the customer wants. I got a burger, fries, and chocolate milk shake. I though that the burger was very standard, nothing special about it. The meat tasted like a frozen patty thrown on the grill though the toppings seemed fresh. The chocolate shake didnt taste very good, tasted sort of fake. The fries were good but not, again, not anything special. Also, as others have noted, the prices are quite high for what you get and it takes a while to get your food.

Great old school place. Proper hamburgers and hotdogs. They are served the old school way, in plastic meshed red trays. Food is made to order and served immediately off the grill to your table. Building looks a little run down, but it definitely aids to the overall feeling of vintage burgers. Most visit if you are a non-vegetarian Livermore local.

Johns is a classic burger joint. Its been at its present location for at least 45 years and little has changed. 3 owner that I know of and kimchee and BBQ beef are no longer avsilable. Other than that, the menu, atmosphere, and classic diner deccor are unchanged.Most important, the burgers have not changed. Still about the best traditional burger around. Always perfectly cooked and tasting of charcoal, they dont get much better than this. Ive been enjoying them for over 40 years and hope to do so for many more.

Double char burger with cheese and bacon. Everything but onions and pickles. Ketchup and mustard fries and a drink. Delicious juicy burger and plenty of fries. Bring cash! (they accept card but expect to pay more for convenience)
