2023-03-07 17:43:10I wanted a true Japanese experience at a Tonkatsu restaurant. Well, workers didnt speak Japanese but whatever.Normally at tonkatsu place, you get to make your own sauce, grind sesame seeds, etc. Wasnt available here. Just normal katsu sauce.Best thing I had was actually the Gindara. The fish. It was the best piece of fish I had. Wow.Katsu was good but not great. We had different kinds but nothing spectacular.I love you get your own tiny room and its private dining. Nice atmosphere.

2023-05-29 19:36:39Filet is fantastic! Love the Japanese sauce for the pork chops! Would be even better if the crisps are kept dry and crispy from the moisture.

2023-11-02 07:09:58Omotenashi: In-n-Out Burger does it much, much better. Wont say more.Katsu: Wifes tonkatsu was pretty good. Nice bread crumb texture.Katsu-don: Found the texture of the pork a little strange. It was tender, perhaps a little too tender for pork. Medium grain CA rice is ok on its own, but when used for katsu-don it doesnt hold together, and you end up with soupy rice at the bottom.Sides: Not sure if the soup on the side was supposed to be tonjiru, but it was lacking in both broth and miso flavor. Wasnt impressed with the other sides as well.Price: Bill for the family came out to $120 including tip. For $30/person I expected more. YMMV depending on your level of expectations.

2022-01-29 23:59:36Service was good but food was below-average and price was above-average. Pictured here are salmon (texture is rubber) and pork fillet katsu (removed breading to show low pork quality), altogether costing $30 plus tax/tip. Fried with oil that wasn’t fresh resulting in weird aftertaste. Fish was likely old as well.

2023-08-08 03:17:26The food is pretty good and the service was good. I got the mille katsu. The only thing that wasnt great was the rice that came with the meal. It was cooked well and everything but it tasted like some kind of medium grain rice so the texture was a little different. It was still really good, but maybe different rice would tie the meal together better.

2018-04-11 20:24:07Kagura reveals an somewhat extensive menu consisting of katsu/tonkatsu variations. For those unfamiliar with katsu/tonkatsu, its a variation of chicken fried steak, cutlets, milanesa, wienerschnizel, etc.Like most Japanese cuisine, the food can be somewhat bland. Therefore, the items are usually accompanied by a sauce. Quality is excellent and the service is efficient. The restaurant itself is vast and offers both seating on one side separated by a bar/wall and standard table seating. With only a few side parking spaces outside of the building, one would need to park on the street. Air conditioning was almost non existent and additional shades are required since the sunset would glare directly into diners faces.

2019-05-03 03:47:26Donkatsu is served in original Japanese style. Sauce itself is in familiar taste but addition of MUSTARD and crushed sesame seeds results in deep savory flavor. Katsu and croquette were properly cooked and felt warm & soft in mouth. I tried Millefeuille Katsu Gozen, multi-layered sliced black pork loin cutlet, and this tasted very juicy and tender. Particularly, its really juicy and met my expectation. Excellent! Real Japanese style exotic interior, novel taste of miso soup are just a few of many things that come across my mind about this place. Next time, I will try their Premium Filet Katsu Gozen as filet katsu has always been my favorite type of donkatsu. This time, I just tried another. Ranked as my #1 katsu place in CA.
