I come here quite often when Im around Hollywood and it was my first time trying their delicious seafood ramen! I believe the broth was tomato base and Im definitely coming back for it again. Theyre also finally open for dine-in services.
I don’t know why people like that so much, because when I was there a tree weeks ago with my husband I was wandered why there was no client in that place while neighbor sushi place was very crowded, but I decided to trust reviews. There was my mistake, both of our ramens was disgusting, it was like not fresh as they got it from the old smelled fridge, there was a small peace of meat. We just left after we tried to eat that worst soup in my life. Trust what you see! If you will see crowded neighbor place and this totally empty that’s means something🥺 and the service was weird like she run somewhere and doesn’t matter about the clients, she even didn’t clean the table, I did this with my wet wipes😠
The Spicy Miso Tonkotsu was incredible. The egg was perfect, the Chashu (pork) was perfectly tender, and the thickness of the broth was perfect.Is it the best ramen I’ve ever had? Close, but no, go to Japan for that.Is it top 10 I’ve had outside Japan? Yes!Result is, this place is really really good, and you should go there.

Arrived at 12:30am because the store hours listed here said it was open until 2am; I was so hungry and ready to eat only to be met with utter disappointment that it was COMPLETELY CLOSED. Please update your hours so that others don’t have to go through what I did; things like this make people not want to come back
One of my favorite ramen spots in LA. This is the Popeye Ramen with bok choy instead of mixed greens. 🍜

Usually this place is the better Kai Ramen than the one on Melrose and the one on 6th street. But today the ramen tasted meh. I got the Buttercorn Ramen and the chicken was really dry. So dry that after soaking it in broth it was still dry. Today out of 10 I would give it a 3/10.
Tsukemen was pretty gooood. The broth was sweet and smokey!
The food was ok, the service kinda rush. I am not a big fan of this kind of ramen texture (taste somewhat like rice noodles), and the flavor wasn’t rich enough. We got the seafood one, and the frozen seafood just not tasting good. With the price I paid, it didn’t meet my expectations.
Came after a museum outing for some early dinner. They had lots of stars on yelp. The ramen was pretty good, I got the white tonkotsu ramen. It was very buttery and garlicky. My partner got seafood ramen which I guess usually comes with glass noodles but they didnt have any at the moment so she got the tick noodles. Hers was very tomato-ey but had many types of sea food like crab and scallops. It also had lots of vegetables in it. For appetizers, we got the crunchy rice, steamed pork buns, gyoza. Crunchy rice was too hard and crunchyfor my liking but it did have some spicy tuna on top. The buns were overly filled with lettuce and onion, I guess to cover up the thin piece of pork. It did have a good taste but it was short lived. The gyoza was our favorite since that had the most flavor and it was cooked evenly, not too hard and not too soft. There is free parking around back but the only way to get to it is if you go through a skinny alleyway same for exiting but it is free for 90 minutes unless you want to pay to park on the street near traffic that is in front of the restaurant.There is a surcharge of you pay with a card, fyi regardless of you pay through the app or with your actual card.
This place is a very unique to feel the Japanese authentic ramen.This is the only place in LA that i usually eat when i am craving for authentic ramen.Kudos to the Kai Ramen team!!
Food tasted great--we had three different types of ramen and all were delicious. The tsukemen was one of them, and the most flavorful Ive had in a long time. Service was also great.
Im not quite sure who is posting these excellent reviews. We ate at Kai tonight and it was one of the worst ramens we have ever had. As a point of reference we have eaten at most of the ramen places between Sawtelle and Downtown LA, as well as a number of places in Tokyo and Kyoto. Why this was on the recent LAEater list of go-to ramen places is mind boggling, especially when several really good places were left off.
Kai Ramen has a friendly environment, kid and family friendly. Employees are very nice! Food was amazing, very tasty and worth trying. Price reasonable. Parking is Available for free. Wait time is good, and they have To-Go. You can order for pick up and it will be ready promptly. Great service! Highly recommend.
The overall experience from the restaurant signatures “Kai’s white” ramen is mediocre at best.The broth was good, it balances between a rich and satisfying bone and garlic flavors.The marinated egg was cold, even after 5 minutes it was floating in the broth it remained ice cold.The noodles taste like cheap generic industrial product, The broth to noodles ratio was not good.Paying more attention on the details and sourcing good noodles might take this place up a notch.
We ordered the creamy vegan ramen, and they were out of spinach noodles. Creamy broth was bland, but adding fresh garlic helped quite a bit. The substituted thin ramen noodles were overcooked.Service was really great, warranting total of three stars.
This place has *the best* vegan ramenI wasn’t expecting much because one must be cautious of vegan ramens, always, but Kai ramen really nailed it. The broth was super creamy and umami— I almost forgot it was vegan. I’m pescatarian so I got it with an egg. Do ask for the fresh garlic, it really completed the whole meal! I regret not taking a picture because I was so hungry but I’ll definitely be back for that picture 😋

A staple for me! The go-to is the Bomb ramen, they offer gluten glass noodles. The cucumber salad also has the best dressing!
I visited this place at first I wasnt sure if I wanted to eat there but I decided to try it And am glad I did it The Ramen I got for my daughter was great, The Pork plate i got for my self was delicious both was the right portions the only thing I would Suggest is to put more Teriaki sauce on top of the pork so it will be well Combine with the rice because the rice itself Is dry.I am looking forward to visit this place again.
If I could give a zero I would. They sent me to wrong order, sent it back because it was a bigger order, I just wanted one thing and I called back the restaurant a girl answered, she said she didnt know what to do. I requested ti talk to a supervisor, this boy comes in and right away hes yelling at me thar he doesnt give a ^$#%/ to that job and careless about my order and what do I want them to do. He threatened me to go to the restaurant and talk face to face and kept saying he doesnt give a ##/=@ about his job or any complaint.I hope the restaurant was empty while he was expressing!Was not my fault they made a mistake, as a customer I have the right to call back and get what I paid for. So disappointing to hear and be treated that way from young generations.
Black tonkotsu and miso ramen. Broth quality was underwhelming, missing a layer of flavor complexion seen among other high quality ramen places. Crispy chicken bun appetizer was good. And the pork in the ramen was very well cooked with a good portion.
Go on Monday nights, our favorite waitress works that shift. Shes super friendly and remembers our very specific order. You have to try their Popeyes ramen, its vegetarian based with shoyu broth. Sooooo good!
Excellent food and very friendly staff. I had the spciy miso Tonkatsu ramen. The soup is much thicker than what Ive had before, but I really liked it. The egg was also perfectly done.

Very nice place to get some noodles. A bit pricey but food is definitely quality. The noodles themselves are delicious. We got the beef udon soup as well as the pork loin Kai Kai Ramen West Hollywood West Hollywood, but substituted the broth for the Kai Ramen West Hollywoodwith just a miso broth.Kai Ramen West Hollywood- great noodles and delicious beef. I am a ramen lover and I really enjoy their tonkotsu ramen while their black. Ramen is my wifes favoirite. You also. Must try their spicy fried chicken if you love Spicy food. Love it a d recommend it.
Tonkotsu soup is not very sophisticated at all. In Japan, the kingdom of ramen, it would go bankrupt within a month. But here in America, its still open for business. The service was also terrible, so I can only rate it below 1.

Takeout portions are tiny and wasteful. They give you a big container for broth and fill it about 1/4 of the way. Chashu is great, but definitely not worth 15 bucks.
The Ramen was really ready good. My only critique is I wish they had put more noodles in the broth but I was definitely pleased with the flavor

I came here with two small children, so I was worried about whether they would be able to eat comfortably. When I entered the store, a nice Japanese female clerk noticed my child and was very helpful, bringing out a high chair and preparing plates and spoons for the child.The ramen, fried chicken, fried chicken, and tofu were all delicious. I would definitely like to stop by again when I go to LA.
Im from Hakata and I love ramen.The noodles here are chewy and the soup is just right. It was delicious. The Japanese waitresss hospitality is also great!

2023-05-11 04:28:09Wow from a person thats lived around the area for a few years (and worked around even longer), this place was hidden in plain sight. If I had known their ramen is exceptional, I wouldve been here sooner.Got to try the white tonkotsu and chicken ramen... yes... I said chicken ramen. Both of the broth had its own unique, distinct flavor and it was delicious. Would recommend and definitely would come back to try more items.The only downside is its street parking.

2023-01-27 05:52:52Now i’m very particular with ramen spots, This place was very good! the ramen wasn’t really the issue, maybe the broth was on the lighter side and the medium a bit spicer than i thought. but overall a classic bowl and i would come again. The yuzu soda wasn’t really what i expected, basically like sparking water with some yuzu peels inside not really sure, but was good with the salty ramen as a balance to the palette. The chocolate mochi was ok nothing special but it’s ok, was a nice finish to the meal. the service was ok the lady was sweet but 30 min before close and they rush the bill on you, which feels kinda rushed but not too bad. overall 4/5 but would come back.

2021-11-16 16:56:13I am very particular about my Ramen preferences and although I lavishly give 5 stars to almost any restaurant, Ramen shops do tend to get a 4 star at best from me. The tsukemen has always been my litmus test for what a good ramen shop is, at least in my opinion, and this shop passes the test. The broth is delicious, the noodles are thick and with the right amount of chewiness and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended!

The place is not big but the service is great, our server was very friendly.There are pretty good choices of ramen, including trukamen the dipping ramen. I had the black garlic ramen with normal spicy it is a little overpowering that covers the aroma of the broth. I chose the thick noodle which I was expecting a bit thicker but still taste good. The trukamen tho is VERY delicious, the soup is very flavorful and with extra thick ramen, takoyaki is very nice have big pieces of octopus inside.

2022-08-18 03:53:03I had the white tonkotsu ramen and my wife had the chicken ramen (mild). I’ve had a lot of ramen and this is up there with the best I’ve ever had. The pork in the tonkotsu ramen was very savory and tender. The overall flavor of the broth was wonderful. The chicken ramen was also very good, but I did prefer the white tonkotsu. We had ordered the chicken ramen as mild, but it was still rather spicy, so be aware. The chicken was not as savory or tender as the pork, but that is to probably to be expected based on the kinds of meat. Service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend.

2021-04-03 20:48:52Omg this place was great! Really didn’t know what to expect... but the Popcorn Ramen was delicious 👌🏻🤤🍜 and the Bomb Ramen indeed Bomb 💣🔥🤘🏻. Only two tables outdoor for dining (more inside). The service was amazing. Our server was so sweet and attentive. My husband likes spicy and I do NOT. Our server made sure to bring me extra sauce for the gyoza with spice on the side. Little things like that, which make all the difference. So thoughtful. But most importantly... THIS RAMEN WAS REALLY GOOD. Will be back.

2021-06-07 01:52:51I am writing this review as I sit in this cafe stuffed after a big bowl of Ramen.Let me just say, this was one of the best Ramen I’ve ever had. Whatever base-broth they use for the tonkatsu ramen- it is just heavenly - very well balanced with right amount of spices and umami.Finally, if you ask for spicy ramen- they will make it SPICY. So if you cannot handle spices, you might be better off ordering it mild.Highly recommend this place. Would love to visit again if I am in the neighborhood.

2022-07-08 13:43:57A lot of options here both in broth bases - soy, salt, miso - as well as toppings. I ordered the “bomb” ramen, medium spicy. It has ground pork and cabbage which became al dente in the hot broth and lent a bit of a different flavor to the bowl, but I really enjoyed it. Will definitely be back for more!
