First time at Kai Sushi,Easy to find, great atmosphere, very friendly and attentive. The portions are huge. The sake is very tasty.Went for the Chargers roll and one other.This is a great place for Americanized sushi, too much of everything, at the end all the flavors get lost. We found this place randomly searching for food. Its such a cute space. We didnt realize they had the bell to call for service(just like in Japan) until we finished eating. They were so present I didnt even realize they had that. We went at 730-810pm on a Friday night. I spent 10-15 minutes just looking at the menu items because they had some interesting renames. I love their white sheet of information that lists the roll names and the ingredients(not sure if I was supposed to order with that sheet). The kids bento box portion was massive. I should have had both kids share 1 dish but one wanted sushi and the other wanted a bento box. The prices of hand rolls are great. My 7 year old barely finished a CA handroll(it was huge), my 5 year old barely made a dent in her delicious chicken teriyaki bento, and my husband ate more than half of full size chicken teriyaki bento. I got a UFO roll and was soooooo full. It was such a massive roll that could have been 2 lunches for me. The portions are huge in a bento box, sushi roll and kids bento. They gave us a free piece of salmon(fin or tail). It was delicious. My son asked for extra crumbles of tempura on his CA roll so it doesnt normally look like what it does in my photo of his roll. The prices are good considering the portion size is the largest out of all the places in SD I have been to. Its an easy place to bring the small kids to eat. Although there is no coloring pages to distract them, the food comes out super quick.

Ive been going to Kai Sushi for many many years and it is one of my favorite Sushi restaurants in Poway. In addition to Sushi they have a nice variety of other menu items. Kai Sushi is the best sushi place around! Sam is the head chef and is absolutely incredible. He always makes something special for us! The oysters are incredible. The noodle soup is off the chain! We had the Rainbow roll, Philadelphia roll, and Charger roll. We also had the chicken tempura plate and a really special seaweed cucumber type salad. Also buy two beers get sake for one cent

After driving past it many many times, we finally tried this restaurant. Great FILLING sushi rolls. The short rib appetizer was a plateful of tender tasty beef, the CT Tower was ENORMOUS (save room) and all the tuna / seaweed salad was fresh and flavorful, the sweet potato noodles on top tasted maybe a couple days old, though its something you can sweep off of the salad itself, it did add a good crunch element when you ate a bite of everything. Hidden under a mound of similarly almost-stale onion crunches was a roll whose name I forgot and now Im mad cause I will probably order it again in spite of the crunchies. Drinks are canned, atmosphere is chill, parking is ample. Lots of families happily eating. Great service, everyone was super nice! Will be back

This is a typical mom and pop restaurant you can find in California. However, the taste and quality exceeds the standards. First of all, I think it is incredibly cute how they are making posts on social media everyday about their special menus and sushi -- I can tell that theyve really upgraded their ingredients and improved their customer service as servers continued to check on me and ensured that everything went well with my dinner. Its my second time going. I visited around 2ish. My server was friendly and relaxed even though there was a help wanted sighn on the door. This says to me that they have great staff. I had the teriyaki chicken bento box. Fun music, sports channel on the tv with subtitles. I enjoyed my time there.

Today for lunch I decided to stop by here with my friend and he got the miso ramen and I got the chicken Katsu. The table we sat down at the chop sticks were dirty and the when we got the miso ramen it tasted like it came from a instant ramen package. When we asked for a refill of the water the waiter got it mixed up, not sure what happened.

The food is amazing. The service too. But please the owners if you read that clean the floors chairs tables booths and bathrooms. It is really dirty! Even though the food is amazing it is really hard not to see the dirt and crumbles of food, rice, dust everywhere. You could be a 1st class restaurant in poway if you took care of the inside of your restaurant, because your food is exceptional.

I visited this restaurant on a recommendation after meeting a random person at another sushi restaurant.I ordered 2 sushi rolls and 1 beer, after my first roll arrived staff walked by without asking how my food was or ask if I would like to order anything else. This was with more than half the restaurant empty and the manager sitting at the table next to me on her phone. I finished my first roll and had to wave down a server to place an order for my next roll.Again no one checked. To see if I would like another drink or to see if I had any issues with the food.Plates were then removed after I finished my second roll, by the manager! The check was brought without me asking for it and I felt like they wanted me to leave. This was at 6:45 pm and they seated others after taking payment, so they were not trying to close.Cost was $48.With all the other great sushi restaurants in the area I will never recommend this. Sushi on the rock is outstanding if you are looking for a better place

This seems to try to be a trendy sushi restaurant. They have taco sushi rolls wrapped in single use plastic, instead of regular ones. The udon soup was nothing special. They are quite expensive for the small amount of food you receive. The sizes are more of appetizers not entree sizes. Will not be going here again.

My family has been going to Kai Sushi since they opened and its only gotten better. Conveniently located near the AMC Theatres and with plenty of parking, Kai Sushi is one of San Diegos best. A wonderful array of rolls and Nigeri both traditional and creative. My wife orders off the hot menu either Yakisoba or the Seafood udon noodles. Great saki, great beers, great service, great prices. I just recently relocated to Poway and I was happy to find sushi restaurant five minute away. Unfortunately I have to keep looking for one. The food was ok not the best. Im absolutely blown away by this place! First, and most importantly, there food is excellent. Yellowtail so fresh, I might as well be on the boat. And the presentation was incredible! Not to mention, what a unique selection of rolls! But the real winner here is customer relations! I went there with a regular customer for my birthday. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. But what set them a notch above for me was a birthday gift presented by the owner personally. Wow! When the bill came the server kept trying to peak over the see how much she was being tipped and then once the check was signed they proceeded to tell us to hurry up and finish and rush us out of the restaurant even though we were there a full 40 minutes before they closed. I was here when they were testing the garlic beans. Gave some to us free and it was great (2015 maybe.) Last night, June 3, 2017, because of a very minor delay of service the owner gave us a plate of the best salmon Ive ever had. Overall a very gracious staff and light atmosphere. Ive been wanting to come here for a long time and there are such good reviews... but, my husband and I werent impressed with the lunch we were served. We started with an order of spring rolls (3 in an order) that were bland and greasy. I ordered seafood udon and all the seafood in the soup was overcooked and rubbery, and the shrimp werent even deveined. The stock was made of either pork or beef, which isnt appropriate for a Japanese seafood soup. It also tasted like it had sugar in it. My husband got a miso ramen soup that was pretty boring, and the roll he got as a side was 99% krab and cream cheese and was squishy. He didnt eat it. We did get the salmon roll that was very fresh and good portion, but as long as the fish is good, its hard to mess up a simple fish/rice roll.Overall, Id hoped for more traditional Japanese food, but it was another fusion restaurant with a menu full of expensive, complicated rolls that rely heavily on spicy sauce and krab. Lunch was $50+tip for our 2 soups, 3 spring rolls, and 2 salmon rolls (we didnt order drinks). Dont think we will be going back.

First Id like to say that their food is awesome delicious and as soon as I leave I want to go back. But what got me the most was how they made my autistic son feel so at home being that our son is autistic when we go out to dinner it is very difficult sometimes to just relax and have a peaceful dinner but the staff here made my son feel very welcome gave him a little toys to play with and really took his mind off of everything else and by doing that it allowed us to be able to enjoy some good sushi without having my son flipping out because he doesnt do so well in restaurants. Great service, friendly atmosphere and overall a nice experience. Rolls are well put together and evenly cut. The best part of Kai Sushi are the Specials. The Uni (sea urchin) is fresh and delicious when they have it usually Thursday to Saturday. They will put a quail egg on top if you request it, I highly recommend it this way. The Spanish Mackerel and Ebi (live shrimp) are also good choices if they are out of uni. They have daily specials and other food options besides sushi just in case youre with someone who is picky.

Let me start by saying Im not a chef or some gourmet connoisseur but I am someone who has lived overseas in Japan and had great sushi! In my personal opinion outside of Japan this is the best sushi I have had state side hands down. In addition to the great food the staff is always very courteous and friendly. Above all else this place is always consistent or always better than the previous visit. I cant say enough good things about Kai Sushi, of all the places Ive eaten in San Diego this is the one spot I can honestly say I never think twice about the bill its that good. ...Looking at you over priced restaurants that give you a bill with mediocre food/service. It was good my order was to go when I got home there wasnt any ginger for my sushi nor wasabi.. I didnt know I had to ask for it so my sushi was ok in taste.. needed the ginger to go with is.. it was like a french fry without ketchup.

Exquisitely fresh fish. Both classic preparations and inventive rolls are offered here. The service is efficient and polite. My friend craves the baked lobster roll. I love the sashimi. Were working our way through the rest of the menu, and everyone Ive taken here has become a fan. Natto has been available by request.

Waited 55 min. to get food and about 15 min. just to get drinks.Server did not check on our refills during our long wait for our food. When I asked for the manager another server went in the back and came back and said the manager would come to our table. New server brought out food after a total of 1 hr. waiting. The new server said the manager didnt speak English, but she was authorized to give us a 15% discount and 1 dessert. This was very upsetting because we expected a normal time for lunch with our grandson because he needed to get back to Murietta to go to work. Also, very disappointed the mangers action and poor compensation, 15 % bah......

Ill never go back, I walked in today at 11:25, 08/12/16 lights where low, (they open at 11:30 so the sign says), asked if they were open, waitress looks at the sushi chef, looks up then at me and shakes his head no, then goes back to what he was doing, by this time its 2 or 3 minutes till 11:30. they could have seated me ... I thought it was very rude to just shake his head then go back to what he was doing..... not a very friendly place ...again they lost my business and most likely several of my friends...hope the enjoy my review as well ....
