Popular items at this place are the baked empanadas and turon. If you are thinking of stopping by in the morning, on the way to work, they open at 7am but the empanadas are not ready until about 7:30am and the turons at 8:30am. I stopped by on a Friday morning hoping to bring empanadas to work. I am not from the area, changed my route but, left empty handed. I would have been so late to work (DTLA) if I waited till 7:30am. I wish that they would just change their hours to 8:30am so no expectation that items are going to be ready at 7am.

Ive been going to this small store/bakery serving Filipino delis for over 25 years. I particularly love the chicharon, chicken empanada, crunchy Turon, and hopia. The Frontline servers are nice and friendly.

This place has been here a long time, since I was a kid my mom would buy things from here. Never had a complaint about the food and they are great with customers. Came here recently for a small catering order for my mom. Everything was ready and packed to go. They were super friendly as usual. The food came out great and a hit at the event. Everything from. This place is great and they have a good selection of foods to choose from. Hope this place stays forever as it it also the closest to my parents home.

I used to across the street from this place, but now I drive from Monrovia to pick up chicken empanada. Its so worth it. The empanadas are baked and not fried and come in small or large.

This place is a known secret in the Walnut community, I know this because they are always busy and sometimes run out of what I like 😰. To be honest this place has a letter B and I don’t know why but everything I buy here is amazing. This would be classified as a Filipino bakery but don’t be worried about what to try or how to order. This bakery has a whole bunch of tasty snacks just sitting on the table when you walk in. Try any of those items and you are bound to find something new and tasty you will love. My top picks are fried banana, coconut anything and the hopya ube. This is normally referred to as Taro. A purple perfectly sweetened snack. Never to sweet. Leaving you to crave another bite hoping it’s going to be sweeter but instead it just hits the sweet spot. Sometimes referred to as purple Yam. Try this place out I always aim to try something new and I’m not even Filipino.

Been coming here for over twelve years. I honestly can not get enough of their empanadas, and turon. Especially when they are freshly made. They have such a good recipe. I have not found any other location that is as good as here. I have bought them for my family to try multiple times. They always want me to take them a dozen of each whenever I visit.

In terms of Filipino food authenticity, Kalahi rates 5 stars. The look and taste of their Filipino pastries and other delicacies are very good. Their Turon, in my opinion, is the best. Crispy and lightly sweet outer skin with a sweetly ripe banana inside. Because they do their offerings right, Kalahi has become very popular over the years. But as their patronage has grown, they have remained a small operation. This has resulted in their juggling of orders or worse, missed orders. It is because of this that Kalahi is not getting 5 stars. But if youre looking for authentic Filipino treats, Kalahi is the place to go. But go early.

A bit hard to find but I fell in love with their turons while visiting from out of state. It was super delicious sweet turon. Never had it and I hope to find some like them when I return back home. Its a little hole in the wall shop hut those are honestly the best! Will be back before my trip is over to take some home!

They dont meet up with their committed time of delivery. They had to make us wait for more than 1 hr for what we ordered from their committed time. They make you feel that they can let go of some of their customers since they have a lot. Their delicacies taste really good and is worth the wait.

Truly a hole in the wall. A bit hard to find the first time but very well worth visiting repeatedly if youre looking for Filipino comfort food. The area is riddled with Filipino restaurants but Kalahi has the best Turon among other things.

This is a little gem bakery that tucked away in a small plaza. They specialize in Filipino dessert such as turon, cassava cake, hopia... My favorite is turon. Always freshly made, sometimes you have to wait for them to make it. So crispy, not greasy and the sweetness of caramel is just perfect. Service was fast and friendly. They do take credit cards with minimum purchases. Avoid peak hours and weekend since the plaza parking is quite small. My husband had to wait in the car since we couldnt find parking. Other than that little inconvenience, everything is fine.

They do have the best Turon and chicken empanadas to my liking . They have no raisins I the chicken empanadas . So thats why i have been coming here for years . If you do need large quantities of things best to order. And on special holidays prepare to stand in line .

We bought a dozen of fried bananas (turon) but all of them were raw bananas. I was disappointed that they still cook them even they are raw. I recommend you ask them first if they are ripe before purchasing them.

Been going to this place for at least 10 years. Love the Pandesal, they make the best pandesal. The snacks are always stocked. The Toron is AMAZING!!! Its a buy and go place, so dont expect to sit down to enjoy your pandesal while you read the paper. lol. Love this bakery and I wish it all the success!!!

My son saw the picture of your place when looking for a hotel in Covina, before going home to Vegas we bought 5 of them. I gave 1 buko pie to 3 friends and called me to say how good the pie. My dad went in and they said to wait 20 mins for our item. He waited for 1 hour but they ended up giving the item to someone else that came in after. They told him to waited for another 20 mins. He didn’t and he just ended wasting an 1hour there.

I have heard about this bakery from my Filipino friends many times. My friends always order a party tray of fried bananas. I decided to pay a visit.My friend and I bought 5 different desserts, and they are all pretty good.The big baseball-like friend coconut balls were my favorite. 4 in one skewer. (Sorry I dont know the name..) Its crunchy outside with a thin layer of sugar coating, so it wont be soggy even when its cooled down. Inside is the chewy coconut, the texture is like Boba.Fried Banana: This is wrapped with spring roll skin and deep-fried. It also has a thin layer of sugar coating. The tartness of the banana filling and the sweet and crunchy skin is the perfect combination.Ube rice cake, sell-by small box: The texture is chewy but not with a strong Ube taste.Bamboo cup rick cake, sell-by big box: this cup cakes cup is bamboo leaves. So these rice cakes have the aroma of bamboo leaves. The texture is more like a honeycomb cake but chewier.Halo Halo (drink): This drink is so colorful, but not my favorite. I was expecting to have a coconut milk base drink, but its a condensed milk base drink. Inside has cut papaya pieces and some jello-like stuff. Its not bad, but I prefer coconut milk drinks better.This Filipino restaurant is actually an old store. Just ask any Filipino and you will know. Every time I have a party with Filipino friends, I will eat the fried bananas ordered from this restaurant.Now let’s talk about the desserts I tried todayFirst of all, I want to make it clear that the names of my desserts are randomly chosen because I can’t understand them, but I will try my best to stay true to the original taste, so I won’t make a mistake when I buy them.)Extra large round fried coconut balls (4 pcs per skewer): This one looks delicious because it’s so big. The outer shell is fried to a crispy texture and then coated with sugar. The inside is filled with coconut balls that taste like boba, QQs. This is my favorite.Purple hair cake (sold in a box): It really looks like hair cake, but the taste is also QQ. The purple color seems to be Ube, but I cant taste it. But it is a delicious fat cake.Fried bananas (sold by the strip): Fried bananas are rolled in spring roll wrappers and then fried crispy and covered with a thin layer of sugar coating, so they are still crunchy when eaten cold! Needless to say, the texture is crunchy, delicious, sweet, and has a slightly sour banana filling (could it be a green banana or could it be a plantain?!). You can eat three pieces at a time. Will be tired.Zong leaf cup rice cake: As the name suggests, this is a cup rice cake made of zong leaves. Although the taste here is also QQ, the fermentation inside seems to be different, so it has honeycomb-like holes, like white sugar cake, and has the aroma of rice dumpling leaves. I personally think it tastes delicious but I still prefer something crunchy. But this is my friends favorite. So you have to try it to know which one is your favorite!Halo Halo (drinks and desserts): The photos are colorful, so my friends and I couldn’t help but have a drink too. The result was different from what I expected, because I thought it would be like Vietnamese food, with colorful things like jelly and crispy fillings in it. But there are papaya chunks inside! A piece of red bean dough that cannot be melted after being stirred for a long time. It tastes like Taiwan’s candied four-fruit ice cream (I wonder? Will this make fans more popular...) The most important thing is that the white base is not thick coconut milk., but condensed milk and milk water. This will be an option for those who don’t like the taste of coconut milk.
