Was not super excited with my sushi rolls - tried rice-less, and it turned out to be deep fried, very greasy. Only 5 pieces in a serving, and still I was unable to finish it. People in my party had other rolls which looked better, so I might give this place another try.

Sushi was very good. Sat outside on a beautiful spring day. Service was very fast. They had my roll out within about 4 minutes. Couldn’t believe it. Sashimi was great, too, but the pieces were personally too big for me to eat. Should have been cut in half. Having said that, I’ll go back next time I want sushi in Los Gatos. Give it a try and judge for yourself.

This is undeniably the best sushi spot youll find in Los Gatos, although I wouldnt go as far as to claim its the top pick in the entire Bay Area. While the menu boasts a fantastic array of choices, I have to admit, theres an abundance of spicy rolls, maybe even a bit too many for my taste.Nevertheless, the service here is top-notch and certainly adds to the overall dining experience.Personally, I tend to gravitate more towards their simpler rolls than the slightly pricier options, which can be a tad elaborate for my liking. The pace of service can be a little hurried, but its evident theyre attentive to their patrons needs.And as a silver lining, they do offer a delightful selection of sake, which Ive found to be quite enjoyable.

We were seated quickly and when we were ready to order the server was table side quickly. Our food was prepared well and was very flavorful. The sashimi serving size was bigger than other sushi places Ive frequented. I will definitely be back when I visit next time and my mom found a new place to eat in her own town.

Summer 2021. Walking with my husband along Santa Cruz ave. to have lunch in another restaurant and we decided to change the option: The almost 93F were perfect for sushi. We sat outside under the gallery ordered Edamame, Hawaiian poke California roll and Philadelphia roll. The service was fast and smiling, the prices were good. I highly recommend this place, probably coming back this weekend.

Saw the sushi sign and came in. Great place, were seated right away and our orders came out fast. We decided to go with more of a keto friendly selection and honestly the sushi was still very delicious. Fairly priced for what we ordered and every item came out great. The portions are also huge. Small Japanese restaurant in Los Gatos. There’s outdoor seating. Too hot outside when I was there in the daytime so I sat inside. The sashimi pieces are particularly large compared to other Japanese restaurants. Food quality is a bit above average. Prices are not bad. Like the casual ambiance. Service is decent.

One of the best places for sashimi in South Bay. Almost 1/2 inch thick, various fish, just delicious. Great fast service. While parking on the street is difficult in Los Gatos, there is a convenient parking in the back parallel to the Santa Cruz Ave. This place is a sure bet for me every time.

I got my introduction to fine sushi and sashimi on a business trip to Japan, where I learned how surprisingly delicious a delicate little morsel of raw fish could be.Unfortunately, Kamakura Japanese Restaurant doesn’t come close to delivering the same high quality. I think they’re catering to our typical American tastes where quantity is more important. “Huge portions” aren’t the best measure of fine Japanese food! My sashimi (Hamachi) as well as my wife’s (Maguro) were ok but unremarkable.From the moment we were seated, we felt very rushed to order our food. Turnover must be a high priority. But we wanted to relax and enjoy some wine first. I guess that people don’t do that here because our server just brought an open bottle to the table and left it for us to pour.Considering the quality of our meals, our inexperienced server, and our rushed experience, we probably won’t return.

Edit: still amazing 2021 and 2022Kamakura is amazing, they have the best sushi in town! The service here is wonderful, the staff are very friendly. We have been goin here for years, most of the staff knows us by name and our order, even if its been months since our last visit. The quality of the fish is always fresh, as are all their ingredients. If you are looking for fresh delicious sushi and wonderful friendly service this is the place. They do offer a small outdoor dining area but most of the seating is indoors.

Live 4 blocks away. Had the rainbow roll, spider roll and unagi. Fish seemed fresh. Microwaved unagi tasted bland but not bad. Spider roll was also bland and close to breaking apart when picked up. Service was good. I just dont think it was worth the hefty pricing. Only went here because Sushi Maru was insanely busy. Most likely wont come here again. Rather drive 20 min to JTown.

Was feeling like BBQ and ended up with Japanese food, how does that happen? “Don’t try and understand, just go with it”Found myself in “the Cats” you all know it as Los Gatos, Walking around when suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw a Samurai! His shining sword nearly blinding me! My jaw dropped wide open in pure aw, my feet turned and walked towards him “HAY IT’S MY STORY I CAN TELL IT ANYWAY I WANT”So like I was saying I walked in and was seated immediately “the place was about 1/2 full the whole time I was there” the waitress spoke with the typical “slang-lish” Japanese, American accent. Sometimes I wonder if they really speak like that or if it’s to just mess with our head, You’ll have herd it and know what I’m talking about.Anyway I looked at the menu and saw it had some really cool whimsical names for their sushi dishes “like X Men” that’s kind of fitting I guess cuz all the X Men are dead now... hmmm Sushi, you think?....I ordered the Dragon eye roll and the Godzilla roll. Wifey ordered the Tempura & Salmon teriyaki “ comes with a bowl of rice, soup and salad”Even though I poke fun at the place, in reality the device and the food was quite good, the price point is a little on the high side but I’m thinking that’s just the sign of the times here in lovely CA.Overall they are very solid in the 3 star range, getting into the 4s. The atmosphere is ok also at 3 stars and for us (older) yelpers with sensitive hearing, this place will fit the bill.

The food is great here however the service is extremely slow. I ordered a tempura appetizer and I received it after I received my main menu. It took about 40 minutes to receive the appetizer and I had to ask twice. The prices are higher than most sushi places. The roles were cut into no more than four or five pieces. Although it is tasty it was definitely an expensive night out for sushi. There are better sushi houses. Not sure I can recommend this place. Its a great thing it has going for it is the location. If youre walking downtown then its probably your best option for a sushi restaurant.

We have been there for the first time, it is over of the very few sushi restaurants which is open in the late afternoon.I didnt expect anything special.But, were we SURPRISED!!This turns out to be a really hidden gem.The sushi is amazing!Plenty of different options to choose from.Well definitely be back to try all the other yummy options!!

We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is good. But they rush you. Even when you still have 30% of your food on the table and you are eating in a normal pace or fast they come and ask if you want anything else. Then the bill is brought within a moment !! You are still eating and they start removing plates from the table obviously telling you to get out so that they can seat another party. Very rude. I brought it up to the managers attention on the way out. He looked the other way and barely said sorry.

Pros: the staff and the veggie rolls were great. Staff was wonderfully attentive and the veggie rolls used good ingredients and the sake was also nice.Cons: the fish quality. We ordered sashimi and it was inedible. The fish cuts were wildly thick and it had obviously been frozen and thawed so many times that it was like chewing dense, fishy styrofoam. A member of our party famously said before eating “I eat all seafood.” Well, even she couldn’t finish a single piece of sashimi (besides the salmon, that was the most edible one).All in all, visit here for the staff, veggie rolls, and sake, but I can’t recommend any of the fish until the scales get shifted to highlight quality over quantity.

They serve me two rotten fishes — halibut and sea urchin. Both of them smelled rotten, and the halibut was a dingy brown color w black lines all over it. They easily could’ve noticed and shouldn’t have sent these out.The other sushi we had was good! Especially liked the eel. And they did refund the bad stuff. But I’d also say for the good stuff it’s a bit pricy for the quality.

I have tried this place twice. First time I truly enjoyed the service and the food. Second time there was a long line and they did not have a system in place to seat people first come first serve basis so it turned out to be chaotic and some people took advantage of the situation. We eventually ended up going to another restaurant nearby. If they eventually get their reservation and walk-in system in control, I recommend this place. Otherwise I think they start losing business. For now 3 stars.

The food was good but the service was terrible. We asked for more soy sauce and the head server was extremely rude, demanded we finish our existing soy sauce before giving us more as if we were in a cafeteria at a school, and eventually refused to give us any more despite multiple requests. When we expressed our disappointment with the service, they brushed it off and didn’t even apologize or acknowledge how we felt. One waitress refused to even hear us out. It was ridiculous. Never going back.

Great place. Ive had their sashimi combo multiple times, always with fresh and tasty fish. Theres a large variety of rolls, all Ive tried so far were very good. My favorite one was the 49ers.The staff is pretty friendly, I didnt have a reservation so I was on the waiting list to get a table ( th hey ask your name and phone number). My first time at this restaurant. Ordered Combo Tempura and it came with miso soup and salad. Miso and salad were very good. Tempura was very plain, the batter was soft and pale. There was no usual tempura crust or taste. They sure need to raise the frying temperature. This is not a special place for tempura.My partner had Ton Katsu, beaded pork cutlets, and the batter was also soft and just cook, not much taste.The staff was nice and the place was very clean.

The food was great, but we were shocked that when we asked for soy sauce multiple times we were refused. The server pointed to the soy sauce on the table and said, “finish it.” Is it really that unreasonable to ask for soy sauce at a sushi restaurant? The staff is very friendly. They know many customers by name. The food is excellent. This is one of those places in Los Gatos that residents are bound to bump in to each other. Every time we are there we see other Fisher families. A real LG institution! Everyone in town seems to go there regularly.

Food and service is good for the last 2 years we’ve been ordering for pickup or when dining in with our 3 year old. It’s a small restaurant, but it gets pretty busy almost through out there week. We bring our 3 year old every time we go, and he loves the gyoza, miso soup with extra (3x) tofu, and Wakame.Downside of ordering tempura for pick up is it gets cold by the time you get home, but that’s what happens when the food travels far before it gets eaten. The lunch & bento boxes are great as well and fairly large portions. The sushi grade, portion, and presentation (even to go’s) are pretty good. So far there’s only a couple of times we were disappointed but doesn’t warrant any fewer stars for rating the restaurant. I have no pictures because we’ve been eating here for a while now and never thought I’d start giving reviews as well.I would say give this place a try and I’m sure it will be up to par.

The sushi was OK, the udon soup was fair, but the chicken was absolutely inedible. I cant believe that they served chicken that was so dry and rubbery. I wouldnt eat it if I was starving. This was served last, and left one person in our party with nothing to eat. Totally ruined our dinner. Absolutely unacceptable. I would not go again.

It was our first time in San Jose and decided to go there for dinner. The service was really fast and the food was amazing. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. We had the pork katsu, chicken katsu, beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki, they were all really good! They came with a salad and miso soup starters which were also quite nice. Definitely recommend going there!

Rainy Days are for Udon Soup at Kamakura Los GatosLos Gatos & Bay Area just had a marvelous rain storm this past week, with drops as big as crocodile tears. Feeling cold and sleepy, a little under the weather, nothing sounded more delicious than a big bowl of udon soup. Where would I find an authentic, good quality, clean, and tasty Udon? Kamakura Los Gatos of course (Downtown Los Gatos, across the street from Wells Fargo Bank, red lanterns outside hanging).The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner. I reccomend the Bento Box for lunch as you can choose from options such as sashimi, rolls, tempura, and potstickers alongside soup & salad and a meal choice of salmon, chicken skewers, beef, or tempura. Make sure to get in to lunch before 2pm as the restaurant closes for a few hours in between lunch and dinner shifts (to prepare for the dinner crowd).Pictured below is the Beef & Veggie Udon soup. The bowl is very large and can serve anywhere from 2-4 people (depending on how hungry you are). Broth is salty and mild, not spicy. Packed with thick udon noodles and meat of choice (beef, shrimp, or tofu). The pot comes out very hot so make sure to let the soup sit for a little, maybe put an ice cube in the personalized serving bowls provided to let it cool before eating. I burned the tip of my tongue because some noodles under the veggies were still in the steeping hot broth. Go easy. I got an avocado roll on the side, serves as a good appetizer if you are hungry as the soup takes a bit to prepare - I reccomend getting an appetizer for the table while you wait.Out of the rolls, I really love the 49er roll and the lotus roll (lotus roll is wrapped in cucumber instead of rice). I usually get a miso soup on the side of whatever I order. I really love their sashimi appetizer plates too. Can choose from a choice of fish (my favorite is salmon and hamachi). The cuts are thick and take work to life with chopsticks - just as it should be.I am thirty-one years old now and me and my family have been going here since I was a child. I had my first sushi rol (California roll) at age six with my dad at their sushi bar, fond memories. Not only is this place nostalgic or me because it reminds me of my childhood and because I am a local, it also maintains excellent quality and choice cuts, delicous meals, and recipes that are not too busy or complicated for the tastebuds - simple, yet lux. If you want a fancy roll or something different, they have these too. Everyone wins at Kamakura, something for every sushi eater. Appetizers (edamame, gyoza, and agedashi tofu) were great.We also ordered three special rolls: Kamakura, Dragon, and Lion King. The fish and unagi on the rolls were fresh. The shrimp tempura in the rolls was great. The rice was not too thick. One note about the Lion King roll: they seem to glaze it with mayonnaise. I personally like it, but some people may feel differently about that.I take off one star for service, which could have been friendlier.

When I worked in Los Gatos, this place was a staple for our lunches. Now that I no longer work in Los Gatos, its a rare treat to dine here. Their rolls are unique and very delicious but I cant say no to their Chirashi.

A solid sushi joint. The bento box is a great deal: the sashimi is THICC and the salmon teriyaki is flavorful. I wish the salad had less dressing though, made the orange slice undesirable!

We ordered tenpura-udon, katsu-don and tirashi-zushi. Sashimi in tirashi-zushi was huge but not so fresh. Tenpura-udon and katsu-don are not usual Japanese style and I don not recommend this place.
