I have always loved Kasagiri. When I was around eight years old, my family went to have dinner there. As we were leaving, the owner gave me a japanese cheesecake (thus started my obsession with those!) And I was so struck by his kindness and how much I enjoyed the night that itll always be special to me.Its changed a lot since then, and I think most places have had to to stay afloat. The hours are a bit funny, but easy enough to work around, and the prices are a bit too high for me to go often. That said, they have a wide variety of things to order sushi and grill and their rolls are BIG. Their food is always high quality and the atmosphere feels like a japanese restaurant ought to. The staff has changed quite a bit in the last few years and they arent always the best at answering the phone or giving me their full attention but theyre quite busy! So if you cant get ahold of someone, try try again. The food is worth it.
First time here! The Sushi is delicious and very fresh. I tried the garlic albacore roll and the scallop roll, I enjoyed both rolls. We also got a combo dinner, I believe it was combo #3 the chicken and beef were very tasty and tender, the combo also had tempura. The salad with the soy vinaigrette was outstanding. What do they put in the soy vinaigrette? If anyone knows how to make it, let me know. Prices were very reasonable. The service is good and server was very knowledgeable of the menu. Remember this was my first time there so we had lots of questions, she answered every question we asked. I will definitely go back again. 5 stars is not enough for this place I give it 10 stars across the board.Thank you for the delicious dinner and wonderful service. See yall again soon!!
Visiting family in town and they wanted to share this place with us, the wait staff was very friendly. I was a little shocked when we received our bill & they charged $24 dollars for a pot of tea! I asked if they could adjust the price since it was not listed on the menu as such, and I have never seen any restaurant charge so high for a basic pot of green tea, they said they charge by the cup, which still seems a bit ridiculous. I’d say it was overpriced overall for the quality and experience. Sadly, I was very dissatisfied, they could have easily adjusted the already very high bill. They should only be charging $4-$6 at most for a pot of tea!
This place is fresh, delicious, and always surprises me even after 12 years!! Love this place. Yellowpeño roll (I think thats what its called) is a must if you like spicy fresh and creamy!!
This is a very good restaurant. Their sushi is always delicious, and never gets me sick, unlike Ichiban. I always get the baked rolls, and usually go here about once or twice a month. My only complaint is, I just wish they weren’t so busy and overcrowded sometimes. But I guess it’s actually a good sign if it is, because that just means they’re really really good, which of course, they are.
Very good, fresh sushi and sashimi at this Japanese restaurant. The chef and waitress were excellent, friendly and extremely welcoming. I didnt have any teriyaki or tempura, or other hot cooked dishes but I will definitely try a few more next time we go here. It can get busy during lunch, which was when our visit was, and Im guessing its probably busy during dinner, too. Prices were pretty reasonable. Everything can be a little steep here, and for absolutely perfect, fresh uncooked fish, this is completely worth the extra price. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Food was delicious. It was very busy and it appeared they had a lot of to go orders. Our food came out very quickly for the most part, rolls were fast the other items like teriyaki chicken and beef bowls took awhile longer which was a little frustrating. Once our food had all arrived we didnt really see much of our waitress. I know they were busy so it was understandable. Overall very positive experience and we will definitely be back!

Food is yummy. Prices went up this late summer. Normal dinner for 2 at $55-60 if you have an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 soft drinks. Service so-so. Little gal ran fast, because she couldnt recall -table not set (need plates please), extra salad dressing(ordered with initial order), appetizer was served after salad/soup. Never got the lemon wedges, never asked us about dessert. Great entrees, clean & tidy. Screaming toddler was another disappointment. I guess we need to stick to midday weekdays..... dining with the masses - not such fun. I gave the owner these same service notes on a reversed placemat as we left.
First time here.Everyone was very nice and the food was terrific.The tempura avocado was nice and light, although I did expect some seasoning in the tempura, but their side sauce was quite yummy and some of the best Eel Sauce weve ever had.
I am very picky when it comes to sushi... Well I am very picky when it comes to food period, but I love this place. Its got that comfortable home feeling. The service is amazing. The food is delivered in a timely manner and warm/hot. The food is soo delicious!!! The price is fair... The only negative is that they are not open all day everyday. But in a way its also good because when you do go, its not overwhelmkngly busy so that you can actually get a table right away. I always recommend to others when the discussion of sushi comes up. Plus they take phone orders for pick up.
We live out of town and went on the recommendation of a friend. The food was good and our server was awesome. However, they do not over all you can eat sushi, the prices were higher than what we are used to paying and the AC was barely running. We left feeling that we should have just gone to our regular spot back home.
I have been to Kasagiri a few times in the last 5 years and usually everything is great but tonight I am so sick after splitting a platter of salmon nigiri that I cannot give a higher star rating than 1. The chef tonight served us salmon that I believe he knew was on edge and tried to cover it up by using more rice vinegar- which I did notice but I passed it off as he was heavy handed with the rice vinegar. Now my husband and I are very sick. I am very unhappy right now. If you order anything that tastes off here, just dont eat it. I held Kasagiri in high esteem up until tonight. I cannot respect any restaurant that cuts corners to increase profits at the expense of their customers. Perhaps this was just an honest mistake on the behalf of the chef, but we will not be visiting Kasagiri ever again.

It was ok but really expected more, thought we would be served faster since it was a weekday! Sushi was good, everything else was ok! A bit pricey I think for the amount of food given! I don’t mind paying what I paid for the sushi cus it was good but for the other items the price was not worth it!
Luckily we went in early bc it became very packed quickly around 5:30 (on a Saturday). Prices seemed pretty high, but the sushi was good at least, so its worth it when sushi options are limited in a small town. For example, $9 (IIRC) for a standard Philly roll is pricey. But again, we really enjoyed the food! Fish was fresh and three rolls with soup and salad was a filling dinner for two adults. The service was quick and friendly. There are separate mens and ladies rooms (not so common here). Decor/ambiance is nothing fancy so if youre looking for date night, dim lit, etc this isnt the right choice. But for a yummy sushi treat, I recommend it.
This place was a pleasant surprise. Great food and friendly staff. We had the sushi rolls, salmon and noodle bowl which were all excellent.
Best Sushi Restaurant in Kern County Hands Down! Great service, and wonderful hospitality. Get invirorment to either dine in. Weather being on a date or just with a few pales getting a cold one enjoying the fish of the sea.
A huge 10in a great experience especially the role that has scalloped salmon and sesame seeds with avocado. They need to beef up the sake list I prefer a smoother sake but the soft shell crab appetizer made up for it
We ordered baked lobster, caterpillar roll, tempura roll, beef teriyaki, miso soup, and edamame; EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! The only item I did not care for was the fried rice, I think it might just have had a pinch too much of green onions for my liking. The service was worth the bill and the tip, we will definitely revisit this restaurant.

Great food and friendly staff. My personal favorite is the Yellowpeño roll (super spicy). My wifes favorite is the Garlic roll. Also the Sushi Tacos are a phenomenal appetizer.
I have eaten here twice in one week and will probably go a third. Do not go to the commercialized gas station sushi down the street. This place has real sushi and it is to die for!
We love this place, In my opinion the sushi is better than other places in town and is a good cost. Also like the atmosphere. Food is always fresh and served in a timely matter. Definitely my favorite place to eat out at in Tehachapi.

The food looked thrown together, the quality of fish was not that good. I realize this place has been there for a very long time but perhaps it needs abit of an overhaul? Staff was friendly, pleasant and treated us nicely.I would still consider going back. But i will stay away from fish, if i do.
I agree with another reviewer, this is the best food in town. Lunch or dinner... if you have one choice to make this is it. The food tastes great, the portions are large and the service is really good.
Found plastic from the plastic wrap in our sushi roll and the establishment didnt offer any alternatives to rectify this issue. Granted it was minor but we also had small children with us. Pricing was above the quality and the interior itself left something to be desired for update/cleanliness/attention.

Unfortunately the food is being prepared by of people who have no idea how to cook Japanese food. I tasted their tempura, miso soup, sushi, salad, and vegetable bowl. Only the miso soup and tempura were remotely close to authentic. The service was pretty good and food was prepared quickly.
The food was very good, but it took about a hour to get take out (I dont know if that was normal or unusual). The rolls had plenty of fish and the lunch special was a good deal.

Their food is very good, my only complaint is everytime i order sushi they dont pack it tight enough and it immediately falls apart when I pick it up, and certain rolls are cut way to thick and i feel like i gotta unhinged my jaw to eat it, their service is good, the food is good, the prices are good, and i enjoy going, just would like sushi and not a poke bowl lol

This is just about the best sushi to be found anywhere. Personal faves: salmon skin, baked scallop, Baja roll. I eat here every time I am in town. Huge selection and the fish is fresh!

I used to like this place a lot. I can handle the steep prices for mediocre sushi. What I cant handle is the owner is a rude, unwelcoming human being. He treats his customers like trash. Id rather drive an hour for better sushi, anyway.

This is the best sushi Ive yet to find and everywhere else Ive tried pales in comparison. Their salad dressing cant be beat and I recommend the Baja Roll.

2023-04-22 06:57:28The place is small and was quite noisy. We had to wait, but the staff was apologetic and seated us as quickly as they could.We had 3 rolls: spider, caterpillar, and unagi rolls. They were delicious. They were large as well. We brought some leftovers home with us.Service was good. The servers were friendly.

2019-11-02 17:29:48This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Tehachapi. I tried all of them several times and Kasagiri blows the rest of them out of the water. I won’t even bother going anywhere else anymore. So far I have tried the lobster roll (expensive but my favorite!), dragon roll, rainbow roll, baked philly, killer philly, and spider roll and they were all amazing. I also really enjoyed the deep fried soft shell crab appetizer. The salad that comes with meals is really good and comes covered in crab! Highly recommended if you are looking for a good sushi joint! I uploaded pictures of the entire menu (you can also order for carry out!)

I ate dinner here a few weeks ago and Ill never be back.It was insanely overpriced and honestly the worst sushi Ive ever had. Fish looked pale and rotten. My Nigri tasted awful - so I only ate one piece. I ended up getting sick later that night. Also they are selling sake for $21 that you can buy at the store for $5.99.The meal was worth maybe $75 for both of us and we paid over $250.
