The Katana special was very good. As you can see, the portion size for the nigiri was most excellent. All the sashimi was very tender and melts in your mouth!! The cloudy sake (nigori) paired very well with the roll. If I ever make it back to the area for business Ill definitely be stopping by again!

I am super sad to leave my first ever bad review on a sushi place even though sushi is my favorite food.Parking: The parking was busy.Customer Service: Not all the staff was helpful, and they dont even answer their phone.Best Part: The fried green tea ice cream was good, their lemonade is sweet and I love sweet stuff.Worst Part: The fish was not all fresh, and most of the rolls we order add this cleaning spray to it. Because of it, one of my family members are taking a super long break from eating fish, and the staff are not noticing it!!Tips/Recommendations: Satsuma Sushi has fresh sushi and not far from here, it is in Mountain View. Just exit this parking lot and continue taking El Camino Real.Return: Probably not. There are other places with fresh fish around here. 2 star review is generous.

The sushi here was excellent. We had the green dragon and the red dragon, and the green dragon narrowly edged out as my favorite. The green dragon has a variety of ingredients that feels like a burst of flavor in each bite. The staff were wonderful and we were served quickly and promptly. The sashimi and nigiri dishes were also delicious. We will definitely be coming back for more!

The salmon nigiri was one of the most beautifully cut pieces I’ve ever had 🧡💛💙I won’t recommend the 911 sushi roll. The jalapeños was way too large of a piece and it overwhelmed the taste of spicy tuna…Overall, it was good quality, and service.I went on a Friday at 5pm when they just opened for dinner. Barely anyone was there so that was awesome!Would totally come back here!Ps, hot tea wasn’t hot… :( it was like less than warm…I spent around $25 total for the two orders plus tax and tips

Mind blowing! Thats the word to start off with. Our order consisted of Chicken yaki, Katana special (both these were served with salad and miso soup), Explosion roll and Godzilla roll.The katana special consisted of 5 pieces of nagiri, 5 pieces of sashimi along with the the Ultra california roll. The sashimi was fresh and were huge in size; more than enough for a mouthful. Same goes with the nagiri and the rolls. The noodles had awesome wok-hay! FUIYOH! The soup quantity was more than at other places Ive had sushi before (outside CA) and was yummy. We loved the fact that in spite of some ingredients being shared across the rolls we ordered each one had a distinct taste.Getting the feeling of a full tummy at a sushi place is a rare feeling for us Indians and trust me we were full!I also want to point out the menus on the internet for this place are not accurate. Amazing sushi rolls and bento! They don’t skimp on fish portions — you also get thick slabs of sashimi with your bento. We got the chicken teriyaki bento, salmon show roll, and first date roll. Will definitely be coming back to try other items. The wait wasn’t bad though we did an early dinner at 3 pm on a Saturday.

One of the best sushi places so far. Had spicy tuna. It was fresh but the portion was pretty big. Not sure if that was how it was meant to be. Also had chicken teriyaki and spicy chicken rice. The spicy chicken rice was really good. Good option if someone in the group does not want to eat sushi.

The chicken karaage and the sushi I ordered were very tasty, but some of the rolls fell apart when picked up. Also, there was too much avocado on one of the rolls. Besides that, I enjoyed the food I ordered for takeout! Would definitely come back to try it again.

I ordered the Kabuki roll that has shrimp tempura & avocado, topped with albacore, crabmeat, tobiko & fried crunchy potato, unagi sauce & wasabi sauce. The California roll was the same as any other classic roll. But back to the Kabuki, for the price and description, I was expecting an amazing roll, but it didnt live up to my hype. I was hoping for something more flavorful, but it lacked just that, flavor. Overall, it was a decent meal.

Apparently, they will automatically add gratuity to your bill and disguise this as “a service fee”. Was so confused and annoyed about this; charged 20% AUTOMATICALLY and not tell you. Myself and two friends (letting you know that it was a party of people, just three of us) found out because I had to ask my server what the charge was because it jumped our bill close to $180! And to make matters worse, will signing the bill out the table, they were closing and then turned all the lights out on us… food was good, service is a hard zero.

Got the 911, Baked Scallop and Red Dragon. The only one that I didn’t like was baked scallop one, it was falling apart and warm avocado didn’t taste good to me. The rest were pretty good. The chicken udon was 3/5 stars. It was okay, a bit flavorless if anything.

We had Tokyo sushi roll and chicken noodles. Loved the sushi except the sweet sauce over it. Noodles are average. We added jalapeno spice but it was very mild. Other option given was Siracha spice which I dint like at all. Ambience is nice and service is bit slow.

Visited on a Saturday night. Ordered combination tempura, dragon roll, sake roll, Philadelphia roll, and alaskan rolls. Shrimp and salmon was not fresh.Baked eel on top of dragon roll was cold.Hot tea tasted like hot water. Excellent Japanese & Sushi restaurant that accommodates bringing your own container. Sometimes they can serve into your container and throughout the pandemic they were able to serve onto a plate from which I transferred to my own container. By using reusables rather than disposables, we can greatly reduce trash and all the disposable plastic that flows into our ocean and will come back to us in our sushi as microplastics. By 2050 we are on track to have more plastic in our ocean than fish!

I am sad to leave my first ever one-star review to this place.This is Americanized Japanese food charging unjustifiable premium prices.If you’re happy to pay triple the price for mall-cafeteria-level food, this is the perfect place for you.If not, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Plenty of authentic Japanese restaurants around.We ordered 3 entrees for over $80 after tax and tip, the fish weren’t fresh, the fried items were oily, cry, undercooked, and delaminated, the sauces were way too salty, the salad sat in a pool of water, the potato ball was ice-cold in the middle (common, from a bag of frozen ones, really?)Service was sub-par as well.

I came here, alone at noon, and enjoyed a wonderful meal of vegetable tempura and the Won K roll, a recommendation from a fellow traveler. I will definitively return to try the sushi and sashimi.6 months later my job has sent me back to Sunnyvale and Ive returned to Katana Sushi & Sake. Oh Yum! This time I over ordered because I knew that I was going to eat the leftovers at the hotel for dinner.The Sashimi sampler is 6 healthy sized expertly sliced pieces, oh boy!I dont remember the name of this special roll, but it sure was good.Vegetable tempura was delicious.All the workers are excellent treating the customers warmly, with genuine smiles, and they are a big reason that I returned and will return again.

First sushi place we’ve tried since moving here. It’s great for a go to sushi place with good prices for what you get. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is good. Four stars because I’m rating it based on my expectations for sushi, and while it is good, tasty, fresh, etc. there is obviously better sushi out there (for more mula of course!) I will say whatever they use for wasabi is pretty tasteless.

(I dont eat sushi but get roped into going by peeps who enjoy it, regularly, always get the teriyaki). Anyway, it was dry, cold, and the sauce was essentially coagulated, though tasty. Next day bathroom woes were severe however. Avoid.

Good food and great service. I love the Rainbow Roll. It would be 5 stars but their miso soup is mostly broth and almost no tofu. I will say that their music is mainly from the past 20 years. I just stopped here randomly after the gym for the lunch special, and everything was perfect. The meal was a large portion, and delicious - fish was fresh and the meat was excellently cooked. Also, the staff was kind! They both greeted me and when I left without my miso, kiss, hostess came out to the parking lot to give it to me. Definitely will return.

I would give a zero if I could. We had 3 sushi and none of them was good. Salmon on top of the sushi was too thick, nothing was fresh, tastes were mixed. Overall it was the worst sushi Ive ever had. Everything about this place was wonderful! The waitress was so patient and nice to us, and when we said that we werent a fan of something, she offered a substitution that was perfect! The decor was so relaxed and cool, and we came at lunch so it was quiet too. We got a sushi plate and a roll and they were delicious! The fish was nice thick cuts and so flavorful! The crab meat was buttery and the tempura was crunchy and light even inside of the roll. The portions were great too! You will get what you pay for, fantastic food and large portions! Bento boxes are great and portions were much bigger than expected. I took off 2 stars because their Agedashi tofu, which is supposed to be fried tofu, was very soggy to the point where it was like tofu covered in jello. Also wait time was about 40min even though we were the only ones there, but they were giving priority to online orders.

I have reviewed this place a few times, my first attempt was unpleasant, but going there again was a pleasant surprise. They really need to work on their portion sizes though. It is pretty upsetting to grab a piece of roll and it fall apart, which is expected with oversized sushi. ( I am very good with chopsticks lol) Besides that the roll combinations we very tasty. Everything felt on the fresh side and I really enjoyed my second try at this place. Sunnyvale unfortunately does not have much to offer in good sushi, but this would be a good place to recommend.

This is our local go-to sushi shop. We have had dozens of meals here. Never been disappointed. The staff is always friendly and prompt. Food if first class, and very fresh. Atmosphere is just right for us. It can get a trifle noisy at the most busy times, but in general its easy to carry a conversation with your table.Were not sushi aficionados, but we have taken sushi snobs there and gotten favorable responses. Figure on spending about $50 (if youre a decent tipper) for 2 people. (W/O alcohol)

Of course prices have gone up but this restaurant got my kids to love sushi rolls again. 4 stars because they only had 1 soft shell crab roll option.The service was ok but the rolls came out fast and were delicious. I’m glad we opted to sit inside instead of outside because the waitstaff only came by to get the order, deliver food, and give us the check- we couldn’t make eye contact in between to get anything else.

The service from a blonde young lady was devine on the other hand the older asian lady is rushing people to order and when she bumped the young lady she didnt even apologize. The music was intolerable, a loud club music streaming. It was quiet beyond that. The server was quick, polite and attentive. I have no complaints of the waiter. The internal decor was very nice and the food had great presentation, it was just devoid of flavor. Ive never had food that was quite that bland before. We ate dinner here around 6pm on a weekday and it was busy. Although we were seated as soon as we entered, we only seen our waitress when we ordered.Our experience would have been 5 stars, if we seen our waitress more than once to check on us.Anyway, the entrees are larger compared to other Japanese restaurants weve been to. For example, my wife ordered the shrimp tempura and there must have been 6-8 on the plate. Usually, we see half of that @ other restaurants.I ordered the Saba entree, all entrees come with a side of rice, miso soup and a salad. The Saba was delicious and it was the entire fish, minus the tail and head! The fish was moist and had lots if flavor. Our kids had the Chicken teriyaki and they gave it 2 👍!

The service was quick and timely.Even though I came in at the very end of the day, I felt like a valued customer instead of a bother that Ive experienced at some other places.My order was promptly taken and the first part of the bento box I ordered was served. After a marathon of church on Easter Sunday, we stopped by here. We were dismayed that they were closed in between lunch and dinner, but it was worth the wait. Im one of those cats who spent years sitting at great sushi bars taking extremely detailed notes (and photos of the result) then practiced making it at home. Wanna know a secret? You can learn to make way better sushi at home because even a popular sushi restaurant would go bankrupt if they used the amounts of high end ingredients (and obsession w/detail) that you can use at home, such making a Rainbow Roll with a perfectly overlapped 12-slice topper that includes Toro, and a real lump crab center (and perfect Koshihikari rice !). Anyway....We like Katana because it has a fun atmosphere with fantastic service and owner and staff are wonderful, cheerful people who love making customers happy. We also like they have some non-traditional menu items you wouldnt find at a more traditional Japanese sushi restaurant.With all those positives, I overlook that their sushi is merely good, Americanized sushi and so is not finely crafted traditional Japanese style sushi. However, their care in presentation of sushi platters is impressive, even if the sushi itself is like 3.5 stars on quality and craftsmanship.
