The restaurant was pretty empty. When I indicated that it was only me having breakfast I think it was the owner who said do you want to sit at the counter? No.I was directed to sit in any of the very many empty booths. The waitress was amazing. Quick to warm up my coffee. Food was great.Owner completely ignored me as I left.
This place has been around since I was a kid and still here for good reason. The food is delicious and homemade and the staff have great service

Friends and I stopped in after a trip to Big Bear, and the food was great. Their tuna melt was delicious, and their fries were perfectly crisp. All my friends loved their food too. Loved the dining atmosphere.
Went with my friend. I ordered pancakes, bacon& egg & orange juice Friend had the small American breakfast with coffee total was about $32 but the portions were large. The 2 pancakes were almost dinner plate size. 4 slices of bacon.
It was a long wait for them to take my order. Food was not hot and my eggs were overcooked, I would have sent them back, but they never came back to check on us. The corned beef was ok, but for the price one can get better food for less. Over $4.00 for ice tea.
Food was not worth the price I paid potatoes tasted sour & gravy dont get me started there it tasted like something out of a can not even a bit of flavor. Ice tea was watered down fr8es was about the only thing worth a da*. Would not be going back . Do better
Not sure if shes the manager or the owner, but shes very rude unless you are a regular.Ive only had one waitress. She was great, so we make sure to be seated in her section every time.Editing to add that Ive now had the owner Kay and one other waitress. Still saying that if you get a good waitress, its a great experience. If you get the owner or some of the other waitresses, then Id rather go somewhere else.Food is good. Large portions at a decent price.Breakfast menu is down home comfort food, with several Mexican or Mexican inspired dishes as well. Their fried potatoes/hash browns are the best in town.
People were friendly. But the food was no good, no flavor potatoes taste Sour and not Fully cooked,it I could I would of gave it NO STARTS for the food I feel like I want to 🤮, never go by the pictures, people need to tell the truth about this place.
I Love small authentic breakfast spots. This place reminds me of my favorite breakfast spot at home. Food was delicious and a big healthy serving. Worth the wait.
The waitress was kind and polite. The food was disappointing. We ordered the corned beef hash/eggs/biscuits and gravy, Reuben sandwich/potato salad to go, and a Frisco burger. The food took a while and the burger had to be sent back because it was undercooked. The corned beef hash tasted good/ok but the portions were small and it seems like a rip off. The burger patty was tasteless, bland, and had no flavor whatsoever. The Reuben sandwich was good but I asked for a potato salad for the side and they gave me red potato salad which had very little flavor other than a sour taste. I havent been here in a while but I used to eat here a lot and the lines were huge and the food was great. Today, we arrived at 10 and it was half empty. Now I know why.
I typically dont do this type of BAD REVIEW, but because of what just happened I feel the need to.My Wife and I are people of color and we were not treated warmly here at ALL!!Came in sat down, and were IGNORED. THE STAFF made a point to walk around us, not greet us, but greeted other people.Only difference between my Wife and those other folks were YOU GUESSED IT - OUR COLOR.We went to another Cafe, Mollys in San Bernardino and were treated like HUMANS
Nice friendly little breakfast restaurant. The staff are friendly and service is good. The food tastes very homemade and delicious. They offer daily specials and are only open for specific hours of the day.The only downside I can say about this place is it feels a bit outdated (although it is a vintage themed place, the place has no color to it) and you get a bit of a dirty feeling being inside.Other than that, its a nice friendly dinner with great home cooked food.
The waitress Teresa did not have great customer service. The food was not tasty. I told her to bring my toast not burnt and she brought it super burnt. I asked her for coffee and she forgot. She passed by me a few times and never asked if I needed anything. She had an attitude from the beginning and once youre ready to pay she is nice. She did not deserve a tip. The reason they get 2 stars is because the other staff was nice to me and brought me the things I have requested. If the food was tastier I would return. I would definitely recommend Breakfast Shack in Redlands.
This has always been a go to place for our family when we lived in Highland. Now that we are back in town we are pleased to see Theresa still working here! She has ALWAYS given A+ service. She is one of the reasons we keep coming back! The food is always hot and tasty. We have never been disappointed!
I was looking for a few cups of coffee and some breakfast after testing at Beaver Medical on Boulder. This place had good reviews. Unfortunately, I totally disagree. The female that waited on me had not one smile on her face. I had to ask for my coffee refills every time and it was definitely difficult to get her attention. I sat at the counter and there was hardly anyone in there so there was no excuse except that she was moping around. There was one female that did smile and was helpful but it wasnt my waitress. I would rate service is very poor. The eggs, bacon and sausage or cooked well. The pretend butter was such low quality that it didnt melt on my pancakes. The pancakes had a sour taste to them. The syrup was not warmed. I definitely would have been better off finding a Cocos, IHOP or are even Dennys but I was trying to find a homey place.
Hi, I was greeted by a friendly waitress when I entered. She brought me HOT coffee right away and kept my cup full ( love that). The food was excellent especially the bacon. Most restaurants serve little wimpy thin almost see through bacon, not here it was thick great tasting bacon.

Precious hidden gem!! Kays Cafe is friendly, clean and delicious. I reccomend you try them, if youre in the area and looking for some deliciously fulfilling food. They do also have veggie patties and meat free options. Only bringing this up cause of lent, and the steaks looked amazing i couldnt have one today. You bet Im going to have to return!!
Good food! It tastes like home made. It takes a while to get server but its totally worth it. FYI, The pancakes are huge, practically same size as the plate, and taste good too!
Always a favorite to go to a local diner. I usually get the country fried steak breakfast. Its big and filling and my kids love the pancakes with strawberries on top! Also the Corn beef hash breakfast is great! They use real corned beef and not any canned stuff!
The prices are high, the food quality is low, and the service very indifferent. Its evident this place once did a lot more business. Now, like so many other independent operators, they are struggling to put something halfway decent on the table.
The service is a 4 of 5 because of some ( not all ) rude waitresses. The food is quality and huge! A plate I would recommend is the seasonal pumpkin pancakes. I ordered 3 pancakes, big enough to fill a big plate, for 5.95! I honestly don’t come regularly for anything. I always go in October, the time of year in which they have the pancakes. Great deals, offordable, 4/5 service. Reasonable cafe.
I went there for the first time last week. It was friendly and the the food was good. I have no complaints. I will go again.
I wasnt impress, this restaurant wasnt clean. only 1 waitress working, decided to order food anyhow cuz, Ive been there many years ago. Ordered eggs, country style potatoes & bacon & 1 small cup of coffee I was the only 1 dinning in. My check came out to $18 for only 1 person. Yup!!!! The prices have gone up, it isnt worth it, Ive been to other restaurants. Next time, going to Dennys or IHOP. At least there, I will be satisfied.
Terrible service. The food wasnt good. Gravy has no flavor. I ordered a drink and the server never brought it. The bill came and she charged $2.25 for it. We asked what that was for and she said the soda. We said you never brought it and she looked at the table and said oh let me deduct it. Will not be returning. The only thing that was nice was the 2 people pouring coffee. They were very attentive towards everyone.
It was okay kind of pricey. They do have a sign above the register that says I believe something about you get what you pay for and good service cost money. Its a diner nothing fancy you order food they bring it to your table it shouldnt be that expensive. And people should always be courteous otherwise I wouldnt go there regardless. Ive been there in the past many years ago decided to go just the other day and it was not a pleasant experience.
Me and my wife just ate there and we had the breakfast burrito didnt expect it to be as big as it was but it was delicious will be going back very very soon the food was very delicious and very good
I ordered steak and eggs that comes with potatoes and biscuit & gravy or toast. Before I ordered I ask specifically asked if I could substitute something for cottage cheese or will it be extra . The waitress told me that the only thing she could do would be to take away the potatoes if not the cottage cheese would be extra . I said that was perfect. It would have been perfect because I’m not eating carbs but I always get charged extra for cottage cheese. Never have I said anything till today because today I specifically asked about substitution. So then I get my bill and see that of course I was charged extra for the cottage cheese. I will never argue a charge if that’s what I ordered. But she told me it could be substituted. When asked why I was charged for the cottage cheese she proceeded to say that it costs extra to replace potatoes with cottage cheese. First of this is not surgery where u have to take something out to put something in. Your doing less work by not cooking potatoes and giving cold cottage cheese in a bowl. How is it I can take something away and replace it with something else yet get charged extra. Especially after you said I could do it and to top it all off on the menu it was 1.00 for cottage cheese and on my order it was 1.50 . I understand extra costs and prices going up but have the correct pricing on you menu and please don’t tell someone what they can do then turn around and do the exact opposite. Because if you are going to charge me extra I would have gladly taken the potatoes and given them to a homeless person . I’m not some newcomer either I’ve been coming to this establishment since I was a kid . It’s gone downhill in many ways and I don’t usually post reviews especially bad ones but you life to my face and I payed for it so here is your review.
What a wonderfully cozy spot for breakfast. Fast service, vey clean and well lit. The blueberry pancakes are delicious and gigantic. If you go home hungry, its your own fault! Very reasonable prices too.
I have been eating here on and off since they were in Redlands but today my B&Gs were so salty I could not eat them. Service was great as always and they were very fast. I will always go back if in my home town for breakfast but today the chef was a little off or my tastebuds were.
The cook/owner shares her love of southern comfort food with everything she cooks. She sources as much locally as possible - you will find everything from hand mashed potatoes to roasted cauliflower to roasted beets to pan friend cabbage. Hands down the best gravy around!
Owner was rude and I will not be going back.I have been going there for years. Waitresses are always great. Food is normally good.This past Monday presidents day, my family and I were treated poorly and its sad to say by the owner of all people.I will not give your establishment another cent. Thank you.
Well couldnt tell you how the food because during my visit I didnt make it to the meal. We went in for breakfast. Worst customer service. After sitting there for about 40 min all I managed to get was a soda. So if my review is on that, to be honest, the syrup needed to be changed. I will never go back, nor would I ever suggest this place to anyone, ever!
I really like this place except the owner is extremely rude...the other two waitress are great. Good service and everything...every time I get the owner nothing but rude service unless your paying....I normally come with a co-worker but last couple of times I’ve gone the service has been terrible....Not overall impressed they need to hire more servers...
Kays Cafe is a great little secret. I love the B.L.A.T. sandwich and the French Toast is always perfect! I wish they had one closer to my home!
Had the best hamburger & fries ever!! 🍔 $12 only sad thing cause the pandemic they are short waitresses. Waiting time a little over 30 minutes then 20 min to get our food but ohhh the wait was worth it 👌 😋
You dont go to many diners that cook their food the right way. Sauces usually are too thick, food is bland, and they use too much oil. Not here! Cane here for breakfast and the gravy was on point, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly with the right amount of oil. Keep it up. Ill be back for that eggs Benedict :)
My family enjoys going here, but I personally DO NOT. I will never eat here again. The last time I ate here I got some sort of food poisoning for a whole day and it was awful. I remember not feeling well after I finished eating and realized their restaurant inspection grade was a B/C. I cant remember which, but it wasnt an A. Which is UNACCEPTABLE. In my family i was the only one who gotten sick, but I also was the only one who ordered water to drink and had breakfast food with eggs. I dont know if it was the water that was contaminated or the food.
Absolutely wonderful experience. Me and the boys stopped by on our way down from big bear and had our fill. They accommodated our big party outside in the patio to stay covid safe.

I walked in with my family around 110pm we got moved from the table we were originally going to sit at to another table, the owner was the one to attend us. She told us they were closing at 2pm today so she gave us about 3 minutes to pick something to eat. When my sister ordered she snatched the menu from her hand, when i ordered i had a choice of sausage or bacon and toast or buscuits She asked sausage or bacon i said oh and i want biscuit she said with a stern voice i said sausage or bacon? I was shocked how rude she was answering me. Made me feel uncomfortable. We had 15 minutes to eat she brought the check so we made it on time it was 158pm when we were paying and another customer walks in at the time, im assuming he was a regular she greeted him by name and tells him oh dont worry ill make your sandwhich ill stay open a little longer and Im looking at my husband like is she for reals she made us scarf our food down but she can stay extra for him????? Felt really uncomfortable and unwanted here. Horrible experience never coming back. Sucks because i had been here before one time with my mother in law and today i wanted to bring my husband and she treated us this way. By the way im pregnant and so is my sister we pregnant people need time to eat .

This place is really good. The service is excellent if you get one of the 2 younger ladies that are there. Unfortunately the Asian lady thats there is not very personable. Other than that, really a good place overall.
Had Bacon & Eggs: Good. These guys have Rye toast, which we havent been able to get at Dennys. . Coffee comes with creamer, but they have half-and-half if you ask for it. They have Country Potatoes, which arent the best, and dont offer hash browns. All else good; good attentive service for a breakfast joint.

Nope please don’t make Mexican food especially huevos rancheros., if you are going to make it use real cheese the one that melts the taste was bland and boring! The beans were a little scary. Home style is more like cheap style.
I come in today and the owner shows us our table and we asked to sit by the left side of the restaurant. The owner kept insisting for us to go to the right side so she finally gave in and had us sit by the left side and as she was walking away she gave this nasty face later another customer comes in and she goes you can sit any where you’d like? Me and my mom looked at each other and said wow she is rude with. It’s not the first time the owner has done this I often feel like we’re not welcome to come in and feel awkward or some sort of tension.

A great breakfast from a local tradition. Order something that requires it be made right then or what you get may not be exactly hot. Also, learn to block out some of the waitresses conversations as a I learned far more about two of them than I needed to know (unless I was a TV producer then I might have hit ratings gold!)

I went here with a friend her treat as sbe likes to say, it was ok like every other breakfast place a little more small therefore it gets a little crowded. I didnt see or ate nothing out of the ordinary I think Its a but pricey though.

Try the blueberry pancakes or the country fried steak with biscuits and gravy... Amazing...

2023-05-26 12:34:19Food was good and the lady who served us was great. When we walked in it wasnt busy. We were seated right away. Food came out quickly and our waitress stayed up on on our drinks. This place definitely had a feel as if it catered to a mature demographic but surprisingly the salt and other seasonings were present (👍🏼🤌🏼 my compliments to whoever was doing their thing in that kitchen😁). The only thing I would change is the size of the corned beef in the corned beef hash; awesome that it was fresh, but those pieces... they were HUGE! That said, Id definitely recommend this place for a quick and tasty breakfast/brunch if youre in the area.

2021-04-05 04:24:04Great food and service. I had Eggs Benedict Cowboy style (first time) and a side of corned beef hash. Both were great. The corned beef hash is my favorite. Kays uses real corned beef NOT canned. I became a fan of the eggs Benedict Cowboy. Enjoy!

2022-02-23 20:27:17I am disgusted 🤮i got chicken tenders today and noticed a weird tasting tender!!when i ripped open one of them and i was shocked from what I saw green mold in my food. The waitress came by and i called her over and she saidwhat happened there I told her to look at my food and as she looked she laughed and walked away from me. I am so disappointed if I get sick Im going to take legal action

2023-05-16 14:21:30This place has been around forever. So apparently a lot of folks like it. We (wife and I) decided to come in one day to see how it was. This wasnt too long ago but the reason why I havent gone back is honestly, we got sick after eating there. I mean really sick. The food was so salty, mixed in with a taste of stale cardboard. Sorry... There was WAY too much oil used in the cooking. The staff was semi pleasant, no issues there, although we had to ask for clean Cutlery and a fork for myself again after getting the replacement.. The prices are a little high, especially for the food we got. It was clean for the most part but there was a hint of that stale restroom scent .. A lot of police hang out there so if you have phobias or whatever.... We have no issues but some might. It has a sense of the cliche diner for the regulars ... We werent comfortable. I wont discourage anyone from going there but honestly I dont think well be back. Parking is okay, nothing special. But A LOT of people say similar things about the place so, but maybe it was just a bad first impression for us.

2022-06-22 15:52:10Best American breakfast between Yucaipa to Pasadena. Quality ingredients. Best bacon. Cook is on point. Staff Is super welcoming. Did I mention the perfect bacon. Love the bacon. Eggs cooked perfect too. Oh and the potatoes. Dang.

2023-06-18 15:56:57Kay’s Cafe has always had great food but the new owner who is an Asian female needs a huge lesson in service and relations to her customers. She very rude and says the wrong things. When I needed extra butter for my toasts she kept insisting rudely that there is already butter in my toast. That’s not what I asked and wanted.

2023-05-21 15:37:25Owner has horrible customer service. Missing item when I got home but was given a tortillas in replace. Owner was very rude about it. Demanded the tortillas back before receiving what I ordered. Which was fine it was just the way she acted about it. My family will never order from them again. Her face is just unpleasant as well.

2023-03-14 20:27:19My friend and I decided to try this place out since its close to the casino. Well the friend ordered three eggs overeasy but when he got his food there were only two eggs and we were charged for three eggs. I said let me let the waitress know that you ordered three eggs and only received two..the friend said no..they just will not be returning. So I paid the bill and left but I did tell the friend we should have given them the opportunity to correct it...if Kays should read this please be mindful of the food orders that are taken and being delivered....That is all!
