Went to have sushi at the Kazoo Japanese Sushi Boat and it was great! I had the bento box with teriyaki beef and chicken, and chicken karaage for appetizer. My gf had some kind of roll, I forget what it was, but she liked it. We both had Kirin Ichiban beer and hot sake. The food and service was great and well definitely be back.

A fun favorite for sushi. My brother usually gets their katsudon - deep fried pork over rice with a soy sauce, mushroom and onion broth. This time we shared a few sushi rolls. Caterpillar, Philadelphia, Rainbow and Sashimi. Fresh and sublime. It was a good meal.

Had very small sushi portions compared to other sushi restaurants. Did not look fresh by the color of the fish. Their spicy tuna roll looked like it was from a tuna can mixed with mayo. Their rice was very mushy and wet. Tako was as chewy as bubble gum. Was not worth what I paid for!!

Finally tried Kazoo for the first time today. Walked in after 6pm on a Friday and got sat and greeted right away. There are many rude and misleading reviews here claiming this place is just sushi from the 90s (as if the decades running a business in Japantown are bad?), and Im ashamed it took me over a year to try this place because of them. Some said the place was old and just okay. But the grilled eggplant with miso was equally delicious and well-presented. My husband got poke nachos, which is a fairly modern dish (the chips were crispy wontons). Takoyaki was only $4.95 and our 3 rolls were $5.95 each, so its difficult to guess where the overpriced reviews came from.Overall, the food was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were good. Ill definitely be back soon!

First pure Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. Sushi does not only look amazing but you can also feel the freshness of all the ingredients. The owner is very sympathetic and open to small conversation. On top of that I really do like the basic interier which makes you feel like you are really somewhere in Japan. Do not forget to order the tea to prepare your mouth for extraordinary experience of taste.Thanks a lot for making my day! I highly recommend this restaurant.

The service was excellent. The food was good. I had the beef teriyaki and it was good. Miso soup was hot and tasty. The salad dressing wasnt my preferred as it was creamy and drenched the salad. Needs to be on the side. The daughter had the happy sushi boat and definitely happy getting it. The son had the katsu and was pleased with his choice. Nicely breaded and juicy. Wife had the sashimi bento and liked it. The fish was fresh. Overall a pleasant meal for some out of towners that wished we lived closer or they were closer yo us. Would eat there again.

HORRIBLE!!! Tuna tasted like refrigerated water logged disgustingness. The tuna was cut in huge thick slices. It was just gross. Never ever again! What a disappointment this place was once very authentic and had delicious traditional food. My family decided to go to JT for my daughters bday dinner. It was horrific and it was very expensive and nothing was eaten because it tasted just .. yuck!!

This place taught me how to eat sushi years ago, and I mean it before COVID-19 began. I wasnt a fan of seafood, but I wondered how good is raw fish; when I went there once, I was amazed from the food, transported by forearm-sized boats. Thanks to this restaurant, I was able to eat raw fish sushi in Tokyo and Osaka, respectively in July 2023.

The restaurant could definitely do with a make over, especially the restrooms, but found the variety of items offered very surprising. Not only can you get sushi and their variations such as chirashi, but curry, tempura, and other teishoku (ie with miso soup and rice) but also kaiseki style (ie various items in box dishes). Though all of the tables were taken, the eating space was not that crowded. I had the tempura, very surprised at the volume of food, but it met my expectations as far as taste and texture. I wished though that a little effort was used for presentation, Im used to having wings of batter, not just dunked and fried.

Amazing service...the hosts were friendly and attentive. Beside the sushi and specialty rolls the bento boxes offer a great variety. We went ahead and tried something different with the Sake and Ramune Soda and they were delicious. They were all out of fried ice cream but the mochi definitely made up for it. There can be a sign-in waiting list but only about 10-15 minutes which are well worth the wait!

Good but not great food, pricy consider what you get. 12 pieces most regular sashimi that you can find in Chain Supermarket, cost 30 dollars, and doesnt come with rice, soup or salad. Although large pieces, still feel not worth it. The Beef dish I ordered has STEEL WOOL in the rice! SERIOUSLY? The health and safety seems to be an issue here.

This is probably the worst restaurant I’ve been to, let alone “Japanese” restaurant. Ordered a deplorable squid, the sashimi was cut as thick as a ribeye, and the fried chicken was softer than a wet sponge. The rolls looked like they were made by a 12 year old forced to make sushi as punishment.I wouldn’t wish this dining experience on my worst enemies.

Great sushi! So fun to sit at the bar and grab what you want off the boats as they float by. The staff was very nice but if you are sitting at the bar you definitely need to catch their attention after they bring your drinks. They are phenomenally busy on Saturday nights. I did like that the rolls were 2-4 pieces so you could try a good variety of them.

This was my first place at Japan town in San Jose so I was unsure about which restaurant to visit.Since it was a special day I ordered a love boat for 2 people.It was a lovely dish in an amazing presentation, it came with a nice variety of products, from grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce, to sushi.I felt like it could have had more sushi instead of other stuff thats why I give it 4 stars, but in general it was amazing.The service was great and fast, my waiter was really nice, checking on us and even at the end she offered us some tea.I would definitely come back.

In general, I like the food and is the first sushi boat style restaurant I patronized. I prefer sitting at the sushi bar and being able to choose from the selections floating by. Service is above par. The food is good (I always order the agadashi tofu), but my ding is on the freshness of the sushi....which is sometimes lacking. Hit or miss.Ive dined at this establishment for over 20 years and will continue to return. Its a nice neighborhood stop.

I did a quick search of sushi near me when I came into San Jose Sunday at noon. The higher end sushi restaurants didnt open until dinner but there was still a good selection to choose from. Kazoo got good ratings and was close by so I gave it a shot. Good size lunch crowd but no waiting. I ordered 3 different rolls (Spicy San Jose, Spicy Paradise and Spicy Habina). 4 rolls of each for a total of 12 plus miso soup. All for $20. The miso was miso... nothing that will knock your socks off. All the rolls were supper yummy. I definitely wanted to try others but was stuffed. With all the choices you have in San Jose you should definitely give Kazoo a shot.

A friend of mine recommended me this place and I will definitely be a frequent guest. It is not very common to find a place with more than three vegetarian sushi options and all with a lot of flavors.I had Avocado Maki roll, Tamago (egg omelet), and Futomaki, (Masago, egg, veggie). My friend asked for Special Beef Donburi and Spicy Salmon Roll. Her first reaction: This is the best broccoli I ever had in my life (the special beef comes with broccoli and carrots) so the beef was more than perfect (his words).You can have your lunch/dinner outside or ask to go. If you decide to eat there just take a site, scan the QR code, order from there, and wait for your food. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and of course, they take all the COVID19 precautions so you can feel safe eating there.This is a really good option if you want something different (more sushi options than the usual) flavorful and good service.

This place has a kinda worn down sleepy vibe, chilliest sushi place I had ever been to.Two little old very American women sitting near me, very smacky in their eating, talking about how they knew a kid that knew how to use chopsticks. Kid had them in his backpack. Oh cuz he grew up abroad. Kid wondered why anyone used tweezers. He brought them to school. Remember him thinking his chopsticks were cooler. “I love the petena of these tables… old… what is it”, “linoleum I think. They have had these as long as I have come here since the 80s” …Ok foods here. This is a no spoon miso soup place, it’s a thing, so drink it from the bowl when it’s the only thing they bring out. Got a bento with Chicken katsu, it is like panko chicken breading, and a hot tea. The tempura was probably the best tempura I ever had, except the thicker carrot that didn’t get cooked through. Not sure about the dipping sauce with some paste, it is very strong. They had lots of sushi roll options that looked pretty good. I would give it another chance, but not for the vibe just the good food and service. I got full quick.

We dine at @RestaurantKazoo because I wanted to try Party Boat sushi, which could feed six people. We got rolls and sashimi, along with chicken karage, chicken teriyaki, fried fish cake, fried oysters, beef wrapped in onions, salmon teriyaki and seafood combo. So first things first. The Food is amazing. Everything I ordered came and it didnt disappoint. Secondly, the Atmosphere is not too amazing. Theres Japanese Art around the place but I feel like it could have more. Its not so bad but you might get bored looking at the same things. But it doesnt really matter when you go with friends and family. The third thing on this list is the service. It could have been much better.We were placed at a table and we waited there for a good 15 mins, waiting for someone to come by. After that, we got our drinks and food with no problems. After we finished our food we asked for the check. We accidentally gave them a 50% tip (miss press) and we couldnt undo what we have done in that moment. So we asked if they could do something about it. Our waiter said that we will get a full refund but in 4 to 5 business days. We didnt have much cash after that purchase so we had to pay out of pocket for the meal, but we couldnt leave a tip. Because we didnt have enough cash. The receptionist at the entrance kept asking why we werent giving them a tip when we were trying to pay for the meal. It was a bit embarrassing to admit that we didnt have enough. So we apologized, but at this point they demanded a tip. We literally didnt have enough. So we paid for the meal and left. Tummies full of delicious sushi, but completely disgusted by the service.

A wonderful experience with friendly owners and staff. We shared a boat which was put together beautifully. Ate lunch here on a nice sunny Sunday.Very busy. We elected to sit at the Sushi bar thinking we would be seated quicker.Things went fine for awhile, we were indeed seated quickly.We chose several dished from the Sushi boats and enjoyed our beer.However, as the tables became busier all attention was paid to the tables and no more sushi was prepared for the bar.We gave them ample time to catch up but they never did. We left disappointed.We have been here before and have had good experiences. I dont believe we will return.

Yum! We didn’t even take pictures but food was great. Hubby ordered the one person Happy Boat (combo tempura, nigiri (ebi, cuttle fish, hamachi, ahi and salmon) California roll and devoured it. My sister ordered bento box with tempura and chicken katsu. I ate the combo sushi with all the different nigiri and had no complaints. Our friend who isn’t a huge sushi eater was able to create her own roll with avocado, cucumber and cream cheese. Ah, almost forgot that we ordered cold tofu and squid legs…omg! We obviously didn’t leave as hungry as we were when we got there 🤣🤣🤣 definitely a must go!

Love this place. My go to sushi spot. The sushi is amazing, great overall value. Also very affordable. They don’t serve mushy tuna or salmon, they give you solid chunks!Take out only, but there are nice picnic benches outside if you would like to sit and eat. The staff is very friendly and quick! No wonder how they got voted best sushi restaurant!

I used to love this place but todays experience:1) ordered whole grilled squid and was shocked to get six pcs of sliced tail, it had grill marks but was cold.2) service was terrible, had to remind several times about beverages.3) potions are terribly small, one special roll had only two pcs. This place sucks. It is my Son graduation and he recommended this place as he was not been here but based on the review this place is great!!!! Oh really ! We call today at 11 am asking for a reservation and the person who answer the phone told us that they don’t take reservation. But if we call 30 minutes before we come there they will save a table for us in 15 minutes so we arrived there around 7:45 pm And ask for a table they said they will clean table for us so we waited because they said they wrote down 8:00 pm reservation for us . So we waited outside again 8:10 had passed still no call and I am very hungry my stomach start aching now. We went inside again and they told us still waiting for table to clean what the ffffff…. So we started looking for another restaurant but mostly in this area were closed already. My Gawd they never call us back seems they forgot about us waiting . Would have been 5 stars except for the service being very slow, and having a hard time getting the attention of our server, even when was not very busy.The quality was good (we mostly ordered, rather than picjed from the boats, since when we arrived there was not much turnaround). I normally rate a sushi spot for the quality/freshness of the sashimi. That being said, I visited for lunch while in the area and got a bento box with a few pieces of fish, a CA roll, beef teriyaki and the usual accompaniments. Everything was delicious except the fish... Tasted like it was a couple days past prime, but still very edible. Id go back for the beef!

The sushi is a bit pricier than some nearby choices and there are so many plate colors that you would always be glancing at the price sheet before grabbing your sushi. (please see attached picture). Wish the sushi chefs were a bit more friendlier. Yes, were supposed to custom order over the counter, but they feel far away and they look busy.Other than the place being pricey for what they offer, its not so bad. Service is VERY good, place feels very cozy (yes that means everyone sits close together and you can hear everyone talking), and the food is good.

Two of us dined here for lunch on a Monday and were impressed with the sushi boats that circulate the sushi bar. While we sat at a table and had a slow start, the food was really delicious and fresh. I am only giving it 5 stars because of the cuts of pork and chicken (hey, I dont eat sushi) were the highest cuts AND because you have to walk through the kitchen to use a somewhat blah toilet.It is, however, wheelchair-accessible in all respects (entrance, seating, restroom).

Ive seen a revolving sushi belt before, but this was a lazy river / a moat / a stream of sushi....Small portions of sushi (2-4 cuts) floating on small boats revolving around the bar. So you can grab whatever looks familiarly delicious or new but worth trying ! I la-la-la loved the Spicy San Jose (it was my first time in San Jose; had to try it!) and lost track of all the others my date and I got to taste.Highly recommend! We arrived at 5:15, because they re open for dinner at 5, and I do not suggest waiting much longer than that because it DID get very busy after.The sushi chef right in front of our section of the bar was so welcoming and helpful. I loved my visit here!

Kazoo is one of my favorite places to get sushi from. It can be pretty busy and often times Ive had to wait for awhile, but the sushi is definitely worth it! Usually sitting at a table can get you in faster, as the bar fills up fast and there are only so many seats. Sitting at the bar the sushi floats on little plates sushi boat-style and theres usually a good variety, but the chefs will make you a certain dish if you request it.

I wouldn’t go again.Their philly role had too much smoke salmon (fat roll), it was too salty.Soft shell crab was flimsy and not crispy.Their don katsu was too beat up, it felt like eating a meat that was grinded.Their meat only looked good from outside because of the grilled marks but it was tough as hell and it was very rare inside.

We went there as a group of around 25 as a participant of Connect Live 2019, Google. They prepared 5 kinds of Japanese Sushi. The decoration of Sushi was awesome. One of the best dishes were Sushi in boat. The taste of Sushi was like the original one we take at Japan.They offered vegan items for the persons in the group who wish to take vegan food.The place can sit around 70 persons.Apart from food the interior was much like as traditional Japanese restaurent.The behavior of the Japanese staff in the restaurent was bit different from the real Japanese people although they were really cordial and helpful. It seems behavior has been modified a bit due to the influence of American atmosphere.

The sashimi didnt seem very fresh. The color seemed off and the texture was rough. I ate it against my better judgement. The salad dressing was just a spiced mayo (the flavor didnt seem balanced). It came with an oversized tomato wedge. The miso soup was nice and satisfying. The rice in the bowl and California roll seemed a tad dry but still decent tasting.My gf wanted a healthy dish, so she ordered the veggie bento. The food was okay. I ordered a bento box for the lunch special, and the gyoza was not fresh. It tasted like it was fried waaay before I ordered. It was cold and tasted a bit stale. Also, I was ready to order something else when I was finished, but the waitress didnt even bother asking, she just brought me the bill. I hate when servers do that to the clients. They just assume you are done and dont ask if you want more or how was the food, and just handle the tab. Rude way to get you out the door. Im not some jerk who doesnt want to eat sushi, I just have lots of strange allergies that makes it no fun to invite me over for dinner or go out to eat with me. So I tend to try whatever I can on the menu so people wont be like ugh we gotta go out with this guy again. I think its also why my family doesnt like having me around. I was here during a team building moment organized in order to have a brainstorming about restaurant reviews so I didnt have a lunch or dinner but I can appreciate the hospitality of the owner and share some specialty with the team. The kitchen staff offers us many different variety of fish and also a very good meat cooked on the grill. I really loved the Oysters that were cooked in a way never tasted from me. The restaurant is pretty big, typical family owned style and was really warm. There are no too sits so its better to book your table or you would be placed on the bar side where a tapis roulant Will bring you some dish freshly made by the Cook. I tasted also the green tea that was delicious and the right drink with this kind of food. Have a look of the pictures I load in order to see the variety of food and the presentation that is the same used for the normal service. For sure if Ill return in San José I would like to return here to taste a full lunch/dinner at Kazoo. This is placed in the Japan town of San José so if you came in advance you can have a walk in this zone where there are many little interesting businesses.

It could be just me but I dont get the other reviews here. The tempura doesnt come with a dipping sauce, udon is just broth and noodles... no other garnish, and the sushi was not fresh at all -- it looked dry and the flesh was dark. This restaurant could use a good cleaning as well, I found it to be very dirty.EDIT: Knocking them down another star for adding me to their SPAM mailing list after I left this review. They just automatically opted me in their automatic emails without any regard to privacy. Very shady practice.

I love this place, it is my daughters favorite food and place to eat Japanese food. We have been coming here since she was just 9 and we have now celebrated her High School graduation last year. I would give it a 5 start but I was recently there and ordered 2 full dinner meals online and paid full price if not higher price and I was disappointed that they did not include a miso soup which normally comes with a dinner combo plate or any dinner plate 😔 I did go back an complained why hadnt I received my miso soup they said it is not included when you oper pick up from the online order services. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant for lunch today. I ordered the poki salad and he ordered the spicy chicken. When we got our order I was disappointed at the small portion size of the poki salad. The salad was a little over $7, and I only got less than a handful of it. My boyfriend said the spicy chicken tasted good but the salad they put on his plate was old and their special sauce was just mayonnaise. Not too long after we both got food poisoning. Food here at Kazoo is over price and the price doesn’t match the quality of the food. Do not waste your time or money here.

Came here Sunday night with 3 people for the sushi bar. Found a seat near my favorite sushi chef Jose. He absolutely makes the best / most proper ceviche rolls! They are done right with the proper balance of tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, and lemon marinaded salmon. One of my absolute favorites. I also love their Spicy Hanabi (salmon), Spicy Mr. Nobu, squid leg appetizer, and their beef udon with extra green onions if fantastic! Weve been coming here for years, even before my 12-year old daughter was born! Everything is fresh. Other people have commented they have changed ownership, but I still see all the same faces of sushi chefs and waitresses as before. Quality is still good. Food is fresh. I will keep coming back.

My new favorite sushi restaurant is Kazoo. The sashimi pieces are so soft, they melt in your mouth. Kazoo is located in San Jose’s Japantown, which is one of the only 3 officially recognized Japantowns left in the US. The other 2 are in San Francisco and LA. There was a 4th one in NY but I’m not sure if that’s still in existence. Please support your local Japantown if you are near one.

Ive walked past this place so many times! Never tried it till this week and now Ive been there twice in the space of 4 days! Very old school sushi restaurant on the edge of San Joses Japantown. The boat is the way to go! So many good things come floating past, the trick will be in stopping to let your head catch up with your stomach. Their Udon soup is really spectacular too. I ordered food for takeout. All the fish on the sushi was pre made, bad smell, and obviously was made the day before. Very unhappy about it. This restaurant should be ashamed of making this kind of garbage food in Japantown and calling it Japanese food. Horrible.

Great stop for a meal in Japan town. What looks like a small shop on the outside opens up to a roomy bright interior. There is a floating sushi bar and tables. The weekend special gives you lots to try. There is beer, sake and spirits.

Very nice and decent restaurant in JapanTown, I went for the first time with my family and it was a great experience, great customer service and the food was better than ok. Despite all the bad reviews of the restaurant for me i really recommend Kazoo.

Went there while on a trip to San Jose. Really good vibe in there and great food. The iced tea was also a lot better than normal. I recommend it here.

Good place to eat if youre craving for Japanese food. Sushi Boat or Bento box. The food is ok but I find it a little expensive and serving is not much and beware if you ask for extra miso soup which they usually serve with their food theyll charge you.

Positively amazing excellent service tasty sushi i was satisfied. From other places Ive been prices are moderate. I would definarely go back there.
