A place that satisfies our Singaporean food craving. Their chicken curry and chicken rice are spot on. We came at lunch and there was a line of people but it was fast enough so no worries there. The kopi and teh are great and just like how I remember it. A little bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion.
Great Singapore food with decent price! Recommend Bak Kut Teh, both rib and soup are really juicy. Char Kway Teow and fried chicken wings are also delicious! Toast is bit too sweet.
Finally, yesterday I could try this place: Great attention, fast service, tasty food, large portions, spacious and clean place. I dont have any other establishment to compare it with, so I couldnt say if its the authentic flavor, but its different and delicious. Give it a chance and enjoy its varied food and its exquisite drinks! For good reasons, this place is popular.
Been looking for authentic laksa and this one hit the spot! Chicken Satay is soft and tasty. I really like the peanut sauce.
Fantastic little place right off University Ave in downtown Palo Alto. They serve food from Malaysia and Singapore. We were informed that all meat items except the chicken wings were halal. We decided on the following items which were all delicious:- Beef rendang: spicy beef curry served with yellow rice, two boiled eggs and salad. The curry was really flavorful!- chicken satay with rice and fried egg: also came with some fried rice crackers and the chicken came on sticks. They have a peanut sauce on the side which went really well with the chicken satay.- a cold iced coffee drink (espresso) which was combined with black tea. Tasted delicious and would be great for brunch.- Swiss roll - colored green and with a coconut flavor. A very light and spongy dessert.They had run out of their puffs which I was quite keen to try. However I’m keen to come back here for the breakfast items.Service was good and portion sizes were decent.
This was such a treat and reminded me of my trips back to Singapore. I got the laksa, chicken rice, and Milo dinosaur! It was authentic and delicious! Bit on the pricier side but totally worth it to feel like you’re sitting at a Hawker stand in Singapore.
Good tasting food, just wish they put more effort into cleaning. Took a while for us to get a clean table. We noticed one of the servers clean a dirty table and then serve food without washing hands or sanitising (personally did not like that)
A decent meal, plenty of flavor (thanks to the side of sambal), but the preparation was lacking given the $19 price tag. The laksa noodles were overcooked and the overall value of the dish was underwhelming - but when you have commercial space here, I can respect the price.We sat outdoors in the covered area just outside the entry, which gave us a good view of the street and the cooks preparing the dishes. There’s also a parklet, but it was dark and did’t have a great vibe. Wouldn’t go back, but glad I tried - not many places like this in the Bay Area.
Glad to finally try this place out with my Singaporean bestie! We ordered 3 noodles dishes and chucjrn wing. Of 3 noodles dishes my fave is laksa...still not as good as the version my bestie made thou (the soft boiled eggs are cooked to perfection and I love it) . The other 2 are a bit too rich in my opinion. The chicken wings are great but can use a bit of heat and that would have been perfect fried wings!!. I would definitely come back to try other rice dishes. The milk tea is very good and authentic - reminded me of the milk tea I had in Hong Kong! The coconut pandan cake is not good and I wouid not recommended.
So glad to have seen this place on a list of recommended restaurants - a rare find of Singaporean cuisine, superbly delicious! Laksa here is absolutely the must-try - very rich broth full of umami, plus the ultra-tender shrimps and silky rice noodles and everything else. We also loved the fried wide rice noodles. Will come back and try other things!
We don’t understand why the children or elderly can’t be seated while we have someone queuing to place order. of course we understand their rules of placing order first before we get a table, but the queue took us more than 30 mins. while the line was long but there were multiple unoccupied tables at both indoor and outdoor. the poor little kiddo was tired of standing and just wanted to sit, and we were told off rudely not to even touch the table by a female employee. she could be the supervisor or manager, not sure. after some time, she finally took out a stool for the kid. after we got a number, she insisted that we take a tiny table which we could hardly place all our food and drinks on it. it was a ridiculous experience.having said so, the server who brought our food was kind and friendly. he even asked if we would like to have small plates and ensured we had enough cutleries. while another employee ensured the area was clean and free of residue food on the floor.the food. good presentation and size but taste wise, there are rooms for improvement. let’s start with the nasi lemak, the coconut rice was okay but lack of pandan fragrance. the fried chicken were only tasty on the outside, with little to no flavour inside. sorry to say this but the sambal (chili paste) was rather horrible. next would be the laksa (a kind of curry noddle). the soup was thick and creamy but too sweet. the gravy of tohu goreng (fried beancurd) was very sweet too.the drink. tasteless except too sweet, again.killiney in singapore serves simply food, and not as higher end as in palo alto.
Satisfied the Malaysian/Singaporean food cravings! Was pleasantly surprised trying out this restaurant with a friend after having been recommended it. We ordered the Nasi Lemak, Chicken Satay, and Kaya Toast to share and had a beverage each.The food was good and I thought it represented the food from Malaysia and Singapore well, especially the kaya and sambal. The chicken satay was pretty juicy but I would have preferred it with more char like you’d get when you get it as street food and the peanut sauce was ok. Overall I still very much enjoyed the food and would like to come back to try some of their other dishes too.I did find the prices to be a bit higher than I expected but I think it could be justified with how few Malaysian or Singaporean restaurants there are in the Bay Area.When in the restaurant, you make your order and pay first at the counter. If you’re dining in, you’ll be provided with a number and you can seat yourself indoors or outdoors. Takeout was available as well, which we did see a number of people do.Located by the shopping district on University Ave in Palo Alto, it’s a nice area to roam around and parking isn’t too difficult to find if you’re willing to walk a little bit. Definitely a bit tougher as you get closer to the Main Street.
Tips: The place can fill up quickly as there are only 10 outdoor tables and 8 indoor tables, so come early!The restaurant is mostly self service. You order at the counter, pay, and they give you a number tag where you place on the table and they bring the food to you. Service is very quick and the staff are friendly.I love that it opens early for people who dont want eggs and bacon for breakfast. The restaurant opens at 9am and I was able to get a Laksa at this hours. Unfortunately they are adjusting their opening hours to 10am on the weekends and 11am on weekdays.Food: We ended up getting the Laksa and Chicken and Rice Togo as we have already tried their Kayak Toast and Roti Prata. The Kaya Toast is sweet and crunchy on the outside, pairs well with a cup of your drink choice. The Roti is nicely done that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside that comes in two pieces. The curry tipping sauce is packed with flavors and creamy at the same time. I also appreciate the pack the Laksa separate with the noodles, which makes heating up easy and retaining the original flavor.The only item that I will probably skip is the Curry Chicken Puff. It was too salty for me personally. Although the puff pastry was fluffy and crispy, the filling was overly salted to my liking.Otherwise, I definitely will be back again and cant wait for another locations to open!
First time here and first time trying Singapore cuisine. Cant speak on the authenticity but food was delicious. All meat was halal as well. Iced coffee was very good too. You order at counter and they bring food to table.
My cousin had her rehearsal dinner here. The service was top notch! All the revers were super attentive and really catered to the whole party. Food was delish and had the flavors of Singapore and Malay. The kway teau was my favorite for myself. Chicken rice for my wife and curry for the kids. Asked my server for a 50/50 coffee tea, she confirmed with “so a Ying Yang?” You know a restaurant and it’s staff is on top of the culture of that go beyond menu terminology. It’s been over a year since I had nasi lemak in Singapore. Got a craving for it and came here with my friend. The place was packed during lunchtime on Saturday and we waited for 20 minutes after ordering to find a table, and another 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned. So do not have expectation of the environment when you come.Apart from that, the food themselves were awesome. The sauce came with the chicken satay was to die for! The fried chicken in nasi lemak was crispy, juicy and flavorful. Haven’t had fried chicken this good in a long time! Also the rice in it was coconut rice, what’s not to love about it? My friend ordered goreng, which tasted just ok. It reminded me of Thai curry with the taste of coconut milk in it.
If you ever visit this place with just two people, prepare to wait forever, even if you see plenty of empty seats. The servers at the entrance would rather keep those seats empty until they have three or more customers. And if you do manage to get a seat, itll either be a shabby one by the roadside or nothing at all. Oh, and lets not forget the lovely service from the waiter. He casually wipes the table, but the stickiness remains, leaving my hands feeling gross. Asked him to wipe it again, and he only bothered to clean half of it. Attitude? Oh yes, it was dreadful too. Definitely not coming back!

Some of the best food I’ve had in the bay, and probably my new go-to restaurant!My parents are from Malaysia, and malaysian food has unquestionably been my favourite cuisine; which sadly is not widespread enough in North America. However, Killiney Kopitiam did not disappoint. It’s the first restaurant I’ve been to in the Bay area that really hits the spot for that unique Southeast Asian taste (food and drinks); but unlike food I’ve gotten in Malaysia, the portions were deceptively large, and I definitely found myself full by the end of it.And as a bonus, the owner (I think) gave us Pandan Swiss Roll and Curry Puffs on the house!TLDR; just overall an excellent experience, with remarkable food, cool vibes, and welcoming staff.What we ordered:1. Roti Prata was a great appetizer and the Bak Kut Teh was good (pork was juicy, meat melted in my mouth).Would be 5 stars but service could’ve been better: server spilled a bunch of food, said he’d clean it up and bring extra food/napkins and then never did. Totally honest mistake but it was a bit annoying to clean.
The Kopi (Coffee with condensed milk) in itself enough reason to visit this place! Pairs well with Potato Curry puff.The other food items that we ordered and highly recommend:- Chicken Satay- Hainanese Chicken Rice Set- Mee SiamBaked goods though are not unique, and overly priced.
I really wanted to like this place, and i got really excited looking at the menu and seeing all my favorites. But the taste just doesnt compare to what Ive had in Singapore - the beef rendang was kinda watery, friends mee siam were awfully sweet, the curry with the roti prata was nothing to write home about. And the laksa ... when the basis for comparison is 328 Katong, this just doesnt measure up.Im really sorry, youre off to a good start offering Singaporean food on the bay area, and I hope you can improve the quality of the food to the same level!
3.5 rounded down.Killiney is a solid place to get acquainted with Singaporean cuisine! Try the Yuan Yang, which is a delicious blend of coffee and milk tea.Many of the dishes here taste great, especially the Hainan Chicken Rice! Unfortunately, many of the dishes here are not authentic representations. Bak Kut Teh is a powerfully peppery soup with intense spices, but here it tastes more like some peppery chicken soup. Its still good, but its not Bak Kut Teh. I feel like I had a similar experience with the Kaya Toast set. Again, it was great, nothing wrong with the preparation or ingredients, it just didnt taste like Kaya Toast (hope that makes sense).Things Ive tried:- Hainan Chicken Rice (get it!)- Hainan Cutlet (eh, seems like pork katsu with fries)- Beef Rendang (tasty!)- Mee Siam (doesnt match my palette)- Laksa (this + Hainan chicken tastes pretty close to authentic)- Bak Kut Teh (Good on a chilly day)- Yuan Yang (GET IT!!)- Pandan Roll Cake (very light and fluffy)
A taste of home! My husband is extremely happy 😁 We ordered the Hainan chicken rice, char kway teow, curry puff, kopi, and kaya toast.All the flavors were on point. What you see is what you get. We are very impressed that Killiney delivered the flavors of Singapore.Price is very reasonable and portion size is bigger than expected.A few things. Im not trying to be picky but Killiney you are so good that I have to point these out.Service and staff are very friendly and nice. The two guys at the front put on a show for the kids. We think they were making pulled tea and were pouring from one cup to another.Hainan chicken rice comes with 3 sauces: ginger, sambal, and soy sauce. My husband was expecting ketchup manis instead of the soy sauce. The chicken pieces were cut up and de-boned! Thats excellent for the kids and adults not used to eating chicken with bones.Curry puff pastry is flaky and yummy! Filling taste is awesome, just need more filling in the puff😉Kopi has a nice smooth and balanced taste and not too sweet.Kaya toast is good. The kaya jam is better than what you buy in the jar. It would have been nice if it had a stronger flavor but Killiney is here and local. We dont have to fly to Singapore !Thank you, Killiney 😘 We will definitely visit regularly when you open up in Cupertino.
Have been looking for kaya toast after having that in Singapore, thank god for this place! Kaya toast, kopi on point. We also tried chicken puff, chicken satay - ok, not exceptional and smaller serving size for the cost. But I would go back again and again for toast!
This isnt a taste of Singapore. There hasnt been much effort to make the dishes taste like the real thing, beyond surface appearances. Its a huge disservice to the country, and to the Killiney Kopitiam brand name. The curry in the Curry Puff didnt taste good - was overloaded with turmeric. The Laksa was inedible - the shrimp paste they used tasted stale. The Char Kway Teow was ok, but nothing special you couldnt get at any other restaurant that does Char Kway Teow. Who taste tested these recipes and gave the go-ahead?
I loved watching the movie 🎥 Crazy Rich Asians. No, not for the rom-com storyline, but the scene where Golding takes Wu to the Newton Food Centre aka Newton Circus and orders food from the various hawker stalls! Made me drool and crave Singaporean food! A mix of delicious food influenced by Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Malay and Portuguese.Killney Kopitiam (Palo Alto), has a good selection of tasty Singaporean food. Reasonable prices and good service. Can I be on the cast of Crazy Hungry Asians?🤣

I was quite disappointed because I spent the bulk of my life in Singapore before relocating to the United States a few years ago. Although I am aware that it is hard to reproduce Singaporean or Malaysian cuisine elsewhere, I didnt anticipate it would be this poor. I requested a roti prata with egg, and frankly, Im really disappointed with what I got. They used what appeared to be frozen roti prata, fried an egg, and called it a day. I had assumed it would be comparable to what I used to have in Singapore when I lived there. They actually cut a hole in the middle of the top roti prata in addition to placing a fried egg on top of it. One half of a roti prata was presented to me. To say that I was astonished by what I saw is an understatement. Not only did I waste gas to get to the restaurant, but I also thought that the roti prata was inaccurately depicted. My Singaporean friends told me what I had received was a disgrace to Singaporean cuisine when I showed them. I had anticipated the authenticity of Singaporean cuisine, but it seemed like they were more concerned with how the restaurant looked than with the quality of the meal.
Had a laksa craving and came here with a group (8 including kids). Its a very casual place, you order at the counter and seat yourselves. First I have to say I was impressed by how fast the food came out! One of my friends ordered and the food pretty much got to our table by the time she walked over here. The taste was very good too, a nice kick from the spice and rich, full-body broth.They did make quite a few mistakes in the orders. First they gave us an extra cup of coffee, then they tried (twice!) to give us extra toasts, then they also gave us an extra bowl of porridge. I mean its fine to get extra food but it felt a little disorganized. I hope they can straighten it out soon, dont want them to lose money giving away all this extra free food!

Their kaya toast was superb! The butter fits perfectly with the kaya. Definitely get the toast set menu so you can get the boiled egg and a drink included. I got the coffee-c and it was good. I will definitely try their other menu if I stop by again. My friends said their laksa is good also.

I visited Killiney Kopitiam for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of their Singaporean dishes. The place was cozy and inviting, with a friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the nasi lemak, which came with fragrant coconut rice, crispy fried chicken, spicy sambal, crunchy peanuts and anchovies, and a hard-boiled egg. It was delicious and satisfying, with a perfect balance of flavors and textures. The kaya toast was also a highlight, with crispy bread slathered with butter and kaya, a sweet coconut jam. I paired it with a cup of their signature kopi, which was smooth and aromatic, with a hint of caramel.
Refer to their website for more updated opening hours for pick-up. Laksa tasted lemak and sambal has a kick. Id prefer more taucho in the Mee Siam, but thats just me. Had it the next day, just like in Singapore, for breakfast. Garlic noodles was surprisingly sedap, the parmesan did that. Would go back again when laksa craving hits.
I ordered the nasi goreng with satay and requested for it to be spicy, so they mixed the rice with sambal. the rice wasnt overly spicy and mostly tasted like soy sauce, which i didnt mind, but it doesnt compare to something you can get in singapore imo. the satay was alright and the overall dining experience was enjoyable. and of course the milo dinosaur was good!
Finally get the chance to try famous Singapore Killiney Kopitiam and I have mixed reviews. The customer service and staff are very friendly and ensure that you order fast and get your meal ASAP. I only tried mee siam and it was just so so since I have tasted better at home or back in Singapore. I wish to give them 5 stars but the kopi C have so much room for improvement. It was diluted coffee and does not have any taste at all. The kaya toast was ok and they should not get that wrong 😊
The curry the serve with Roti Prata and Chicken Curry is the same and they are GOOD! The chicken rice is a little bland for my taste, but with the 3 kinds of seasoning (soy sauce, ginger, and chili) they helped.
I only have half of my stomach full with the Laksa, and the flavor of Hainanese Chicken is very different, probably too American.
Order your food first before seated. Food comes quickly. Feels like in Asia! taste good!
I have been craving Mee Siam for 3 years and have finally found a place in the states that serves it! The ‘gravy’ was a great mix of sour and savory and they included enough so that each bite had a good amount of the sauce. Highly recommend this dish if you like tamarind and seafood umami forward flavored noodle dishes.The fried wings were also a winner. Got them to go bc I couldn’t finish it but the flavor was excellent.Will definitely be back to get my Malay/Singaporean craving!
Five stars for Nasi gurang, must try Indonesian food. The rice was so flavourful, and the meat was beyond excellent. Worth a try. Nasi lemak, a Malaysian cuisine was equally good and tasty.
Love the food. Was missing malaysian food and the only place open while driving back from Frisco. I think everyone closes for lunch time but this place was open. 🙏 mouth watering food. Nasi lemak, roti canai & cha kui taui. Recommended must try.
Pretty authentic Singaporeans mee rebus,mee siam. Laksa not exactly especially the toppings, though not expecting fresh cockles, do wish to see fish cakes and fresh prawns. Serving staff are nice

The food here never disappoints. Arrives to the table hot and fresh. Roti and Kana toast were great appetizers. Fried chicken were crispy and not burnt keeping the meat inside moist and tasty. Definitely worth checking out the other menu items too.
Gorgeous mural of Gardens by the Bay(must-visit if you are in Singapore) and fantastic location on the Bay Area Peninsula. Love the outdoor seating of mis-match chairs, reminiscent of old Kopitiams in Singapore. Average Singaporean and Malaysian fare missing important southeast Asian spices. Like Lemongrass, gula Melaka(a type of palm sugar) tamarind flavors. Curries overdosed with coconut milk, and undercooked spices.

A Solid 3.9.. But that doesnt mean we didnt enjoy ourselves at Killiney. The location was super convenient to stop for a quick dine-in. Hardly any wait in line, prices were competitive and you order at the counter first, then sit. Food was pretty tasty and satisfying depending on what you ordered.We ordered a couple of Noodle dishes that were okay. Then we decided to try the Chicken Satay, and the Roti Prata which turned out being delicious!We sat outside under the canopy on the street with nice weather, so the dining experience was pleasant. Will return for the Roti.
Authentic Singapore food, actually I think its better than in Singapore. I really like the Copi C coffee (milk coffee and less sugar), which I always had when lived in Singapore, and the apple pie is so good. Chilli crab is a must when in season!
We had Laksa, Bee Hoon, and Kaya toast for takeout. Laksa has a very rich soup and is definitely worth revisiting in the future.
I got diarrhea right after having the kaya toast set. I lived in Singapore for more than 15 years. The taste is ok but not authentic enough.
Impressions from 3 Singaporeans:- Kaya toast was legit.- Teh was OK. Not enough tea flavor, but at least it wasnt bitter, which happens if its over-steeped. Could also taste the condensed milk.- Nasi lemak: Rice tasted like coconut milk but was also far too sweet. I still enjoyed it though. Sambal and the other ingredients were mostly legit.- Prata: they put spring onions on it for some reason, which overpowered the flavor of the prata.Overall a relatively decent attempt at Singaporean food, considering the dearth of other good Singaporean restaurants.
I liked what we had. Maybe missing a bit of a wok hay but otherwise everything tasted great. Also probably the most polished Malaysian / Singaporean restaurant in the area.
Had fried chicken with rice, plus a couple of chicken samosas. Pretty good. Blander than I had hoped, but not bad. Counter service was done. One drink order failed to come until we reminded them. Overall. Good but not great.
I’m originally from SE Asia and to say that I’m disappointed with the food here is an understatement. My order was via Doordash so maybe your dine in experience will be different. I ordered an meat with herb soup (bah kut teh) and it showed up with 2 pieces of meat (attached). That’s it. No typical straw mushroom, tripe, tofu puffs. The soup itself tasted like water + salt. This costed $15. I would have paid $20 for this experience to be erased from my mind. Next item I tried was the char kway teow. The moment the noodles touched my tongue, I knew it wasn’t going to be good. I tasted like wide noodles mixed with some random spicy sauce bought from the grocery store. Sigh. I wish I read the reviews before excitedly ordering from Killiney Kopitiam (which has franchises in Malaysia btw). Quality is night and day compared to the one in Malaysia.
Hainanese chicken set is really delicious . the chicken curry puff is also good. Bak kuh teh is also good and spicy.
Otak otak, chicken laksa, curry chicken are all delicious. Fried kway teow lack the wok char that gives fried kway teow a distinctive wok aroma.

But they still taste good with nice flavors. I would like to go back and try some of their other selection like Bak Kut Teh and Chicken and Rice. Whenever I go to Singapore, I must get Chicken and Rice!The MiscellaneousKilliney Kopitiam is on one of the main streets, but there is a decent amount of street parking. They seem to have opened recently, but havent got a chance to use their inside, cause pandemic. They have takeout or outdoor seating, though your mileage may vary. They have a pretty good selection on their menu, covering most of the Singaporean dishes. Their service is also pretty friendly and sincere.

The food is still amazing, but the service has definitely declined significantly since theyve opened. Usually when a restaurant first opens, they have to work out kinks. It feels like the service has declined as more time passes, which is unfortunate. Some new employees dont seem like they want to be there, especially those at the register. Hopefully it improves because the service at the ones in Singapore usually exceeds expectations.
Americanized Singaporean food in a semi fast food set up. Ok food but wont come back again.
Id say that this the most authentic tasting Singaporean food Ive had from a restaurant in the Bay Area thus far. Killiney Kopitiam is a well-loved institution in Singapore, and as a food-crazy Singaporean, Im so happy (even proud) to see them set up shop here. Mind you, there is no monolithic version of various Singaporean dishes and every restaurant has its own rendition, but I like Killineys versions in Singapore and here. I seldom write reviews but felt compelled to do this one.Stepping into the restaurant to place my order brought a tear to my eye, as the place smelt like a proper Singapore food court / Kopitiam (Coffeeshop) with its mixed aromas of Kopi (coffee), teh (tea), toast etc. I ordered several dishes: Roti Prata, Chicken curry, Mee Siam, Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, Seafood Bee Hoon, even iced Teh-C Siew Dai (tea with evaporated milk and less sugar). Tastes just like what Ive eaten at the original Killiney Kopitiam(s) in Singapore. Tastes like home.Mee siam:Gravy tastes just like what Kilineys sells, which is a bit in the thicker side of the spectrum of what one can find in Singapore, with more tamarind flavour and less coconut milk. The Bee Hoon (rice vermicelli or 米粉) is a bit thicker but thats consistent with Bee Hoon in general here. Thats mostly just texture anyway, the flavour is great. They even have chives and thin sliced tau kwa, which really completes it.Mee rebus:Tastes great, again just like what Killiney sells in Singapore. I prefer my mee rebus with a bit more ground nuts but thats just me. Certainly an authentic mee rebus. Not something Ive really ever seen in any other restaurant here. Make sure you finish it with the provided kalamansi limes for max flavour! Could be enhanced even further with a drizzle of Kecap manis (dark sweet soy sauce) and julienned green chillies.Char Kway Teow:Pretty good, but somewhat lacking in wok hei (the blend of flavours emerging from the Maillard reaction and smoke as a result of rapid high heat wok cooking). The Kway Teow (thick rice noodles) was rather thicker than what one would typically get in Singapore, but had a good flavour.Seafood Bee Hoon:Highly recommended, better than their Char Kway Teow imho. Balance of flavours is good and the chef fried it well with some decent wok hei. Make sure you eat this piping hot for max effect. Transported me back to a zi char (cooked food) stall in a Singapore Kopitiam.Chicken curry:Really good Nyonya style curry, more Singaporean-tasting than any other version Ive eaten at any restaurant here. For the less initiated, this is quite different from Thai yellow curry or Jndian curries. I was hoping for a larger portion though, this is essentially an individual-sized portion, essentially one chicken drumstick and potatoes. Tastes just like what Kiliney sells. And its actually different from curry sauce provided together with the Roti Prata. Killiney in Singapore sells the base sauce in foil packs for home cooks, and they should do so here too! (*hint hint Mr Woon*)Roti Prata:Tastes fragrant and light like a Kopitiam roti prata. Shiok and Indo restaurants in Menlo Park and Palo Alto make good roti pratas too, and Indos may be a bit crispier than the one I got at Killiney. That could be because it was a bit cold by the time I brought Killineys home. Killineys also much cheaper than Indos, $6 vs $9.Mr Woon, the owner of the Killiney franchise in Singapore, is Hainanese, and the Killiney Kopitiams are typical Hainanese kopitiams. The Hainanese migrants to Singapore established themselves as formidable cooks serving under British colonists, and their cooking is a blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western flavours (just like the melting pot of Singapore). This is reflected in the dishes on offer at Killiney (e.g. chicken curry - blend of Chinese/Malay/Indian, Hainanese pork cutlet - blend of Western/Chinese). Interesting factoid: many of Mr Woons family members went to Stanford, so theres a Palo Alto connection here.
Don’t understand why the kaya is like this...The bread is not the traditional type, which makes it so hard after toasted.The texture of the fish cake in the laksa is also kinda weird, doesn’t feel like fish cake.Overall it’s a disappointment...
Amazing authentic food!!!! I havent had such authentic Singaporean food since leaving the country 15 years ago. The laksa, nasi lemak and chicken rice are all authentic and delicious. In particular the chicken rice has excellent tender juicy chicken that is vastly superior to other Hainanese chicken rice places. The rice is rich and fragrant with chicken oil and the soup is delicious as well. The laksa comes with some exquisite prawns of excellent texture. The broth is decadent and flavorful. The nasi lemak is also competently prepared, with perfect chicken wings and delicious rice.
Disappointed! Laksa from 99 ranch tastes better! Disappointed!!! Coffee and the bread are too sweet for me!
Truly a taste of Singapore. Tastes like the real thing in Singapore. I would definitely come back here. I drank the kopi as well and it was legit.
The food tastes great! It is practically a street food store, so dont expect the service to be as good as a classy restaurant.
The beef rendang is very well stewed and flavorful. The kopi tastes stronger than I expected and glad that it’s not too sweet!
So glad that Kiliney opened up a location here in Palo Alto. Love the kaya toast here; their kaya toast back in Singapore was probably the best I had.

Authentic Singaporean cuisine. Things are spicy enough to have a kick. Nasi lemak and Laksa were both good or Shiok as we would say.Theres about 5 indoor dining tables for 3-5 seats per table on first floor. And another 6 outdoor tables. Parking (next to Taipan) and tables werent too busy at 11am on a Sunday but fills up by 12pm. Theres a constant stream of people ordering every few minutes and many are doing takeout.
Kopi C tasted like instant coffee with too much water. Kaya Toast was way too thick and flavorless too. Quite disappointed.Update: went back to try the mee rebus, laksa, and ba kut teh. All were pretty good besides laksa lacked a little flavor. Will recommend the ba kut teh (the 油条 was great) and mee rebus.
Food is pretty good, but horrible staff. Brought my aunt who was visiting from out of town who is Malaysian and she was very excited to come across this place on Google but we had a bad experience w the staff as they were overall very unaccommodating and rude about it. Just be prepared for that part bc it genuinely ruined our overall experience. The worst part is that it was very unprecedented lol we had asked questions about the menu as we had a little kid with us and it was my first time eating ahything Malaysian. Saw other tables next to us being treated the same sort of way and could tell everyone had a very uncertain attitude the whole experience.

Their Char Kway Teow is authentic.While the upfront cost ($12.99) seems high, it was exceptionally filling and tasty (i.e., you more than get your moneys worth). The Kway Teow was on par with what I had in Singapore. Will be back again.

Pretty authentic, just like the original one in Singapore. They even make the coffee the same way with the “socks”. Nasi lemak was good, just missing the banana leaf wrap.
We didnt have good choices for vegetarians. The noodles were bland and tastelBay. Roti came with a sauce that was tiny. Coffee was ok, and toast was fine. The pastries were tasty but a bit dry. It is in Palo Alto, so prices are higher than other cities. I would go to other good Singaporean cafes in South Bay.
I really want to like this place as Im very fond of Singaporean cuisine. We ordered the vegetarian tofu curry, and it was watery one side and bland, turns out we had to stir the dish quite a bit to get the flavor going. The dish was also missing the prominent tofu which they added as a side later after we complained. The milo dinosaur was very disappointing, not rich at all and quite watery. The kuay teow was ok, the roti was a bit too chewy. Well go again since there arent too much options in our area, but it was a bit disappointing.

Pretty close to the real southeast asian faire. Flavors are all there, which is pretty hard to do since restaurants in America dont use lard or MSG. They do a good job with the Curry and Char Kway Teow. Satay and peanut sauce was great too. Laksa was a slight miss but it will pass if you are from SEA and missing home. Coffee selection is what sets it apart and it is Strong! The Chendol drink is also hard to find so they get an extra star for having a good selection.
It serves authentic Singapore food. Their chicken and beef are halal except for the chicken wings. Char Kway Teow and Mee Siam were great, just like the ones we usually had in Singapore. You can really taste the wok hei (breath of wok), which indicates a great cooking method used in Chinese food. The curry puff was a little lacking tho. While the filling tastes nice, the pastry is not as flaky and buttery as the one we had in Old Chang Kee (one of the leading brands of curry puffs in SG). The teh tarik is awesome! And really strong! I had a hard time sleeping afterwards from all the caffeine in it 😅
Loved the chicken porridge, just the food I wanted when I was sick. Very flavorful & comforting, even though I suspected there might be MSG. Hainan chicken rice was very meh. Rice was hard/ oily but unflavorful, chicken was slightly overcooked, soup didnt taste like chicken was the main ingredient, and chili sauce wasnt quite right either. Chicken Meets Rice was better (& cheaper).Probably wont get chicken rice here again but still excited to see a Singaporean/ Malaysian restaurant in Palo Alto, and hope the other menu items are better!
Fast service and delicious food that feels authentic. The kaya toast was simple and hit the spot. The bak kuh the was saliva inducing. Very pepper forward in a good way. the vibe is casual and cafe, and its great that we have a place in bay area that serves Singaporean food.
Nice Singaporean place for brunch. Tasty Kaya toast and tea, and good curry puffs. Lots of more substantial dishes as well.
For your fix of Kopi. Try on the curry chicken/potato puff and pandan cake while you’re there. Char Kwan Teow or Laksa if you’re really craving some Singaporean classics

My favorite restaurant in the bay area. I love the beef rendang a lot. The beef is extremely soft, the sauce penetrates well into the meat.But their bak kut teh is Singaporean style, I actually prefer the Malaysian one.
First time came here for Rendang and unfortunately they don’t make it anymore.Char kway teow is overly salty and spicy with lots if msg. Hainanese chicken rice is served with very cold and hard rice that’s probably premade hours ago.If you don’t mind msg, you might like this place. I ended up drinking lots of water and milk tea, just to get rid of the strong msg after taste.

Lovely place for quick and authentic Singaporean food! The service was fast and so friendly. There is a wide selection of food and drinks. There are specialties on weekends so make sure to go. They even have a special box coming up for Father’s day with desserts. The tables they use outside are to replicate the environment of an authentic Singaporean experience.

Disappointing. Mee goreng tasted nothing like mee goreng, but a strong tomato-based pasta with bits of potato thrown in the mix. Also no changing station to cater to families with young infants.However, their hainanese chicken rice and kaya toast are very good.

Absolutely horrible. Our cups had long cuts on them and the drinks were everywhere. And not just one cup, but both?! Long line, average taste and on top of that spilled coffee due to cuts in plastic cup. Not returning again

Killiney helped me put together a delightful private event for 30 friends and family. They provided absolutely amazing food and service. Dishes were constantly coming out of the kitchen, water cups were always full.Our favorite items were:- Char kway teow - wok hei galore, full of tasty surprises like lap cheung, fish cakes with my favorite wide noodles.- Chicken wings - GET THESE. So much flavor packed into this perfectly fried crispy goodness. My dad polished off a whole order of these!- Rendang nachos - super unique, could not stop piling it onto my plate- Hainanese pork cutlet - perfectly fried pork chop with great flavor- Roti prata - authentic roti with curry dip. Not that Ive been to Singapore, but their roti makes me want to go.Shout out to Daryl and Maddie who made planning my private event so easy. They kindly invited us in for a tasting, then all I had to do was provide my menu choices and they handled the rest. Could not be any easier than that!
I tried their Roti + Curry and their Char Kway Teow, which is sorta like a chow fun but with shrimp, fish cake, Chinese sausage, amongst other things.I really enjoyed the Roti and Curry. It came out steaming hot, and the roti was really soft with a fluffy interior as well as having a flakey exterior.The Char Kway Teow was very seasoned. It was good, but it was a bit over seasoned for me.Id like to come back and try other things if Im around the area! Service was quick, food came out fast. Order up front first, and seat yourself after paying.
This Palo Alto restaurant was introduced by a Singaporean friend live at Berkeley couple months ago. We decided to try for lunch today ( February 22nd, 2022 ), order: 1. Laksa, 2. Mee Sian, 3. Daily special chicken rice, 4. Kopi.Laksa temperature was just warm, very poor.Mee sian soup temperature was goodChicken rice was ok, soup is hot.Kopi temperature just warm and way too sweet, had to ask serve reheat. Terrible product.Overall impression on the Quality off food just Marginal, on a scale 1 to 10, 10 being the best, we rate it a 4!!!!!! Lots of improvements require for sure. Not worth to try again.

Food was very authentically Singaporean (Im Singaporean) and tastes great. Nasi Lemak had a good amount of coconut milk, and the Chicken Rice chicken was prepared very well.A small complaint is that the Char Kway Teow was a bit too oily.

Ordered delivery. lived in Singapore for 9 years and, as many others have posted, this place is pretty spot on, a little taste of homechar kway teow - missing the oysters but otherwise the flavors are on pointhainanese chicken rice - solid. like that all 3 sauces are provided instead of 1 or 2 like most places do. rice and chicken couldve been more fragrant but its better than most places around herecurry puff - never had a sweet potato one in Singapore so this was a bit weird for me but it was goodlaksa - maybe a little thin but still great tasting

Seems like they are still figuring things out and I hope they can have a system to notify us when our order is ready (text, email), since we wouldnt mind the wait as much if we could walk around downtown.Will definitely come back and try again when ordering is a bit easier!
Taste exactly the same as in Singapore. I lived and worked in Singapore and regularly dine at the original Killiney in Singapore. However, prices at Palo Alto is 3X the prices compare to Singapore. Nevertheless, good to have flavours of Singapore.
Ever since Chef Nora Haron upgraded the menu, it doesnt take much for our family to drive 60 miles for a delicious meal. In addition to the tasty Char Kway Teow, Chicken Rice, Laksa and more, the real star of Killiney is Roger. He always greets us with a smile, makes us feel like VIPs and goes out of his way to take care of us. I have worked in the F&B industry and still get involved occasionally, so I understand the struggle. For Roger to rise above the struggle, that truly is awe inspiring.
Ordered nasi lemak togo, everything was tasty for me and I was stuffed for $9. Definitely coming back for breakfast sometime!

Cozy restaurant in a nice area. They also have outdoor seatings. I got tahu goreng (fried tofu), roti prata and fried banana (pisang goreng). The fried tofu was topped with peanut sauce, bean sprouts and cucumber. The combination worked so well. The tofu took on the sweet and savory taste of the peanut sauce and the veggie gave it texture contrast. The roti parata had layers, was crispy and chewy. Perfect to dunk into the curry sauce. The fried banana was so crispy and the banana itself was naturally sweet. Everything was so good. It reminds me of the food from back home. Definitely will be back to this place. Good food, good place and nice customer service. A+ !!
Havent been able to find the soup version of mee siam anywhere so I was very glad to find it here. It tastes pretty authentic too, coming from someone who has lived in singapore for a couple years. Love their kaya butter toast as well. The laksa was just ok, not as authentic. Beef rendang was alright, nothing special.

Weve been here several times. The food is generally good. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Sometimes you have to go get your own utensils/napkins.
We came at around 11 and it was almost 12 before our two cups of kopi and teh came out. Having said that kopi was almost as good as the real thing in Singapore. Teh was weak although it had potential. It hadnt been sufficiently pulled. The chicken curry appeared to have been cooked using a base which was almost laksa. I think they used frozen chicken which instead of being juicy when pulled apart was dry. The staff are friendly but not well coordinated. The restroom was wheelchair accessible. It is a very pleasant place to chill.
Food was good but slightly pricey. Plenty of parking. Interior is open and industrial looking. Service was good. If I were in the area I would try it again. But since I am not, I wouldnt go out of my way to eat here again.
Update 11/13/2021This place has gone downhill in service. They used to be pretty good, but my recent experience is left to be desired.I was in the area so decided to get some breakfast. I ordered the char kwee tiaw and picked up the bottled coffee. While I was waiting for the food, I noticed the bottled coffee was expired. Ask them about it and was replaced with fresh one. No problem.Then I waited for almost 30 minutes for the char kwee tiaw. I finally asked the status of my order. The employee checked back and couldnt find the order. Another employee then pointed out my food was sitting in the pick up shelf and said I called your name with condescending/accusing tone. When I told him I didnt hear it, his response was okay then walked away. No sense of regret whatsoever.Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Considering how pricey their food is ( which I used to tolerate whenever Im craving South East Asian food), I honestly dont see any reason to come back here anymore. They need to train their employees better. And maybe not put expired drinks on the shelf.Original review:Ive been wanting to check out this kopi tiam ever since they opened up, but only got a chance to do it yesterday. Ive been to their original location, and although its not as good as the ones in Singapore, I think their food and coffee are still pretty good, and definitely satisfy my cravings.I ordered kaya toast, hainanese chicken rice, and kopi peng (iced coffee with condensed milk). I really enjoyed them all, and the chicken rice is comparable to the one I used to get in Singapore. The coffee was also good, but the kaya toast felt a bit off. Im not sure how to put it, as its not bad, but it just doesnt feel the same as the one I usually get.The food is a bit pricey, but still worth it. When I was working in Singapore, I go to Killiney or other kopi tiam branches almost every day in the morning before work. Safe to say I wont be doing that here, even if its close to my place.All in all, its definitely good enough to satisfy my craving for kopi team, something that the bay area has been missing all this time. I will definitely come back (just not too often).

We lived in Singapore for many years so are always looking for authentic flavor. The Char Kway Teow was spot on! Even the sambal tasted like Singapore. The satay was moist but they forgot to put in peanut sauce so I’ll save my opinion on that for later.Can’t wait to try the Roti and the Kaya toast!
This is nothing like in Singapore :( We went to try the Teh, but unfortunately it just tastes like black tea with some added milk to change the color.Also our first order somehow the cashier thought we ordered Teh Kosong not Teh, so they gave us straight black tea, where as Teh has condensed milk.I get the menu and place is fairly new, but it seems you cant say the menu names as is in Singapore, the cashier just doesnt understand. So for all those using the Teh/Kopi menu guide, its pointless.If you get your tea to eat in, they still just use a paper cup instead of the classic Killiney tea cup.Finally, they added alcohol to their menu, so instead of smelling the great smell of Kaya, teh, and other Singaporean dishes, it reeks of alcohol.Definitely wont be visiting again. Attempt to get a nostalgia fix? destroyed.Also they serve pork (which Singapore chains do not) so again I wonder about the authenticity for those other reviews claiming halal.
Killiney Kopitiam is chain from Singapore.Mee Siam curry noodle not perfect but 70 percent close to Singapore standard!! Im happy. Roti pratha was great!! Better than singapores. One less star as portions are small. Tall blonde lady had the best people skills. Sponge Cake was great as well. They used sugar instead of coconut milk for rice in Nasi Lemak - I guess they are trying to save money as milk is more expensive?
Its way more expensive than what you would pay in Singapore. The nasi lemak and chicken rice were OK, but the laksa was disappointing. The kopi was super strong and super expensive.
Singaporean food is one of those cuisines that is usually way better in the country of origin. Its got a little of this, little of that feel thats tends to result in overdone, overwrought dishes. The solution - bring the country to you! The dishes at Killiney Kopitiam are restrained and delicious.Just be aware that as soy sauce is to chinese cooking and fish sauce to vietnamese and thai, is shrimp paste to singaporean... It might take a bit of getting used to, but the laksa is addictive once youre there!
I ordered stir fry noodle and curry chicken. Dish taste good. But have some comments. The portion of rice comes with curry chicken is too little.

I live in the neighborhood and have been waiting months for the restaurant to open. I arrived at 7:52 and was turned away. The cashier said last call is 7:45 . I was not dining in, and the couple in from of me was still at the register ordering. The sign posted outside reads open until 8:00pm.The cashier was not even apologetic.I give an F for customer service. I have actually had better service in Singapore .
Nearly double the price but half the portion. Quality is below par now.
I’ve only tried the Hainanese Chicken and Rice, but I have to say that this in no way comes close to the quality and flavors of what you’ll find in Singapore. Hopefully the Laksa will be closer.

An an ex-expat to Singapore I can vouch that the char kway teow is on point, the roti prata is very good, the kaya toast is just ok (bread too thick, slab of butter no where to be found), and the limeade is nicely refreshing.
Food is great, but the system is laughable. You cannot sit in UNLESS, there is a free table exactly the time you are ordering. You cannot sit down at a table ahead of ordering, nor can you wait for a table after ordering. It must be the perfect timing, or not table for you
Was told at the counter there’s a 40 minute wait time for soft boiled eggs!!😆. The Kopi-o was nothing like it is supposed to be. No trace of condensed milk. Waited 30 minutes for a cold kaya toast. If you’ve been to the original in Singapore they would serve it all hot in 3 minutes.

Born and raised in Singapore, and just so glad to find the taste of home here in Palo Alto! In fact, Kiliney is one of my favorite local spots back home. I had the mee siam, nasi lemak and Milo drink, they were all yummy!

What? Broken rice for chicken rice??? Since when was that a feature in Singapore or Malaysia? I love to make money too, and I know PA or MV do not have diners that were on SE Asia recently. But this is daylight robbery, and frankly embarrassing. You no not represent the best of Singapore or wherever.

Food was ok, but employees are not well trained on food hygiene. I got a spoon that had stains on it, asked for another one along with two small bowls, the server put his thumb in the bowl!
Food Excellent! People very nice and accommodating. Place can use a bit of a dressing up in the outdoor setting at night with real dishes and flatware. Experience somewhat messy. Maybe as we get out of covid and their traffic picks up they might look to that.
Friendly staff. However, there was one employee who doesn’t wear a mask and was serving customers. No other employees saw it as a problem. As a result, I don’t really trust their covid protocol.The food is ok. We feel it’s not salty enough. Good price though.Overall, it’s not a bad choice but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Take out tasted okay but not great
I ordered the Bee hoon and specifically asked for it to be made with no seafood and no meat but was disappointed to find a piece of chinese sausage in my order... ended up not eating the rest.
I had been looking for a place to have kaya toasts around the area, and finally the area has one. The kaya toasts and satays tasted good, and they were all reasonably priced for the Palo Alto one.
Not like this place. Dry and not tasty. Sorry for the reviews. We were very excited when we left the house heading to this restaurant but at the end we said we wouldn’t go back

Good asian food, however the staff is so-so. The cashier took our order 3 times and even then forgot us sitting at our table, waiting for our food.

No rule at all for finding a seat. A lot of people occupied tables without ordering. People in front line is forced to change their order to takeout because tables are taken by someone who have not order yet.

Came here to try out the Singaporean favorites but was very disappointed as all the best menu items were not available including kaya toast, curry puffs etc.
LOVED that i didnt need to wear my mask inside, loved seeing employees not wearing masks. Roger was so kind and the coffee was delish and strong.SKIP STARBUCKS COME HERE

Great service, pretty tasty food, reasonably priced! Only downside is that the food is generally greasy... But I suppose thats why it tastes good.
If you cant go to Singapore, Singapore will come to you... Well, at least a version of it. If you are feeling a bit jaded of the same-old same-old, this is a good option.

2023-08-20 01:12:58Having had many, many authentic Singaporean street food / hawker center experiences, I know the owners are trying to bring some of that experience to the Bay Area. This was my first time at this location, I will definitely come again to try a few other menu items The food was excellent, albeit not an exact flavor match for me. The staff is a bit on the younger side, but polite and knowledgeable. Theres plenty of parking around the corner and for a Saturday lunch crowd it was a little busier than expected. Always a good sign. There is interior and exterior seating, including a covered parklet shared with the Dim Sum place next door. Come prepared for a unique flavor experience (some dishes are spicy) and good strong coffee.

2023-10-14 17:52:36I’m so glad to have found the closest taste of Singapore in NorCal!We ordered Kaya Toast (not pictured) - one of the best treats you can get for yourself in the morning! 🤩 the soft, crunchy thinly sliced toast with Kaya & butter… worth it. We also got the mee goreng - really good w/ huge shrimps, and the Mee Siam - delicious tamarind flavor soup! Otak otak was so flavorful and savory!Oh and get that refreshing Immuniteh cold! 😍Will definitely come back!!Note: There is no line at 9:45am!

2023-11-30 04:22:35Food here is good and affordable! The chicken in the rice set is very tender and flavorful. I’m not a huge fan of the Bak Kut Teh but it does have very rich taste. Not the most aesthetically furnished restaurant in Palo Alto though.

2023-07-20 19:28:29Don’t come here expecting Singapore quality food. The hainanese chicken rice would be an embarrassment in Singapore. The chicken was cut so sloppily with bone shards everywhere, with scallions to cover up the mess. The rice was mushy and not very aromatic. Laksa was very sludgy and way too thick for a laksa broth. Expect to tip for service even though it is non existent (put away your own dishes etc) On the plus side, the portions are quite large.TLDR Far cry from Singapore hawker quality, but expect to pay 3x the price :(

2023-07-23 22:37:51This place used to be my favorite restaurant. The food quality and portions has gone down significantly. The laksa is incredibly oily and almost sickening to eat (broth pictured). You can see the kitchen on the way to the bathroom and there are no gloves or hair nets in sight. The ambience is also completely off. For a $20 per dish taste of Singapore I wouldnt expect to be listening to Spanish music.

Their curries are spot on.The style of the restaurant is more like a cafe where you order, get a number, and find a spot to sit. Their savory dishes are very seasoned, so if you are looking for something a little calmer, I would recommend their curry dishes.

2023-06-22 19:40:27Ordered the Laksa noodle. Price is a bit steep but it didn’t disappoint. The sauce is thick with a hint of peanut flavour. Came with one whole egg, 3 pieces of shrimp/prawns, fishballs and fried tofu. The bean sprouts were fresh. I would like more bean sprouts. Not a problem. It came with a small tub of chilli but the sauce was spicy enough for me. No waiting. Food was serve in about 5-10 mins. Very clean.

Got really excited when I saw Milo Dinosaur, Hor Fun, Otak Otak and Nasi Lemak - all childhood favorites. Ended up being very disappointed. Felt ripped off especially since it was around $70 total.Steak Hor Fun (1/10) - Bitterly disappointing. It was missing the characteristic gravy I was expecting and came with guac (why tho?). It didnt taste bad but its just not hor fun. The crispy fried onions were tasty and the beef itself was not bad. Noodles just tasted spicy.Nasi Lemak (7/10) - Fried chicken wings it came with were tasty and crispy. Coconut rice was too sweet, which threw off the balance of the dish.Milo Dinosaur (3/10) - Milo itself was okay. But it only came with a dusting of Milo on top. Milo Dinosaur is supposed to come with a heaping mountain of Milo that gives you crunchy bits, but this Milo Dinosaur was just plain Milo.Teh Peng (5/10) - okay. A little too bitter but we asked for more condensed milk.Otak Otak (5/10) - also okay. Probably the best dish out of all of them because it delivered on what it says it is. Just lacking some flavor.
