Get the chahan omelette fried rice, it’s so good! I got the gravy on the side. Can’t go wrong with kouraku ramen too, squid, pork, woodear mushrooms, carrots and flavortown approved in an egg drop soup. Only place you can get that Ramen. They are on Uber eats too! Love this staple of little Tokyo and the service and the restaurant is so fun with its design!

Great late night spot for authentic delicious Japanese food that isnt just sushi.I got the tempura bowl that while delicious I would steer others to get the tempura entree instead. Its the same amount of food but the difference is the tempura was piled on the rice in the bowl so it was hard to dig down to the rice and since the tempura was stacked together it got soggy faster. While in the entree the tempura is to the side of the rice so its a bit easier to eat.My friend got the Chicken Mixed Fries curry that he said was very flavorful and would get again. His only complaint was that the katsu meats were a bit over fried.The takoyaki was good and pretty typical.The prices on the menu already have tax included which was nice to see.

Back when I used to work in Little Tokyo, I took notice of the restaurant’s window display that had a variety of authentic food I had yet to try. It greatly astounded my taste buds by the fresh quality of ingredients.Of course, careful preparation by the staff. Whenever, I come and visit the area I make it my top and last stop to enjoy a perfect meal and rave about it with my friends.

The Melon Soda was super tasty! Didn’t know what to expect at first but everything was so good! Lots of love for this place.The omelette with gravy and fried rice (that all the reviews were recommending) was so much better than I thought it would be. I didn’t think I would like it based on the pictures, but it’s much firmer texture than it looks. Great pairing I never would have tried normally. Plus it’s a huge helping, definitely could serve two.I couldn’t get a good picture of the robot waiter that they had, but it was so cute! Definitely worth the trip, and I’ll be back again next time I’m in little Tokyo.

This place always hits the spot for late night eats. We came here after the bars and ordered Katsu Chicken Curry and Chicken Karage. Been coming here for more than. 20 years and the place always feels like an authentic Japanese experience. The food is always good. The waiters are always pleasant, attentive and friendly. I especially like watching the Navia Robotics cat (robot) waiter delivering the food. A nice touch 👌 if you want desserts, there are plenty of options with in the area to choose from.Managed to find parking in the street, weve also parked in paid structures around.Overall, highly recommended this place!

If you have not been to Kouraku, then Im sorry but you cannot say that you have been to Little Tokyo.A long time establishment in Little Tokyo, my dad frequented them when he was a young lad (quite a long time ago) and this is where Ive had my late night you shouldnt be eating that right now amazing meals with friends.Owners have changed multiple times over the decades but the food remains great. Plenty of options for all people, and just an overall great dining experience with their friendly staff.Too many items to recommend...every diner must experience their own journey to the massive menu of Kouraku.

This Japanese diner has in business forever, and I can see why! They have a very deep menu with Japanese and Asian-fusion dishes. Service is good and the booths are comfy and clean. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. Overall, this Little Tokyo mainstay is great for a quick lunch or a fun dinner!

I needed a 1/2 star option to give Kouraku a 3.5 star review. The food is ok, I have been eating here for ages and their menu has always been consistent. I like Mabo Ramen so I tend to order it and it’s not as good as when I original started coming here but it’s pretty decent. The geso fry is always a favorite with us - we love our squid legs! 😬. Their little kitty-faced wait-bot helper was cute and gimmicky. We got a kick out of it! This place a whole in the wall and small compared to the Japanese place full of people across the street but I think if you’re in the area and looking for a quick meal this is a good option!

I enjoy eating Kouraku Tenshin Chahan Ankake which means Shrimp Omelette on Pork Fried Rice with Gravy!! So this is a good place for lots of Appetizers, Ramen, Dishes, and Dessert & Beverages!! So when I was little I enjoy eating the Tonkotsu that my Mom brought leftovers from Kouraku. And when I tried the Tenshin Chahan Ankake which is a popular dish on the Google and Yelp Review. I enjoy eating it so much it’s was delicious!! So I recommend going for Lunch or Dinner !!

Great place to sit and eat at. The food is on the pricier side, especially if there’s no deal or special going on, but it is well worth the value. The staff are super nice and friendly, even if the food takes a bit of time to come out.Pictured below is the Chicken and Shrimp Curry, split in two. We were so hungry we ate it before remembering to take a picture!

It was really busy but the wait wasn’t long at all. You order and pay with the digital menu online so it’s really convenient. I highly recommend the happy hour! Really authentic flavors and if you’re craving Japanese comfort food, chances are they will have it on their menu. Delicious!

Excellent food. Its been here for 40 years and the staff is very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly.The Pork Katsu Curry Rice was delicious, packed with flavor and very generous portion.The Jya Jya Men is noodles with thick broth. The noodles do not full you up and the broth consists of ground pork and vegetable bits. Lovely.The octopus balls were beautifully presented with bonito flakes.We went there are 11pm and there were still busy but not full.What is even better is the price has taxes included already!Protip. Ask the staff for recommendations. They know the menu very well what you may like depending on your taste.

Was definitely a cute spot and we were looking forward to trying it after reading it’s the oldest Japanese restaurant there. One of the best Kaarage I’ve had, my daughter was very pleased when the Robo-Kitty delivered our order. You must eat here if visiting Little Tokyo! Yes it will take a bit to get a table but it is sooo worth it! The dumplings...friend rice teriyaki steak and pork dishes tasted authentic and left us wanting more. It was so good. The steak melts in you mouth! Also my daughter left her phone charger in the restaurant and Frank the assistant manager found it. Over 24 hours after we realized we left it there we contacted the restaurant and spoke to Frank who got it back to us the next day! WOW!!! How is that for personal service? Food is delicious! EAT HERE!!!

I LOVE this place! I ordered Motsu (pork tripe) ramen with lots of cabbage, chives and scallions in spicy Miso soup. Very flavorful, generous portion and super affordable price. Most of their items are under $15 which is hard to come by in this area. They used to be cash only but now accepts credit cards and Venmo! Service is fast and friendly.

Great place, Great food...If you like anime, Kouraku has all the classic traditional HOMEMADE dishes. From the Umorice to the Hamburger Steak w/ curry sauce. Yakisoba, shoyu ramen, juicy Takoyaky w/ bonito fish flakes, delicious miso soup, Katsudon, Onigiri, just to name a few.You will feel like a Shonen MC dining in here. I ordered chicken karaage and chicken katsu which completely hit the spot and prevented a hangover the next day :D The chicken karrage was nicely fried and still juicy on the inside. The portions were quite small, but what can you expect so late and for so cheap?I thought was the service was excellent. I have mad respect for services that has to put up with large groups of drunks.

I went around 1 A.M. and it was packed! But, I could see why, the ramen was good. They had decent sized portions, the two wait staff on duty were very friendly, with mine being apologetic for the wait (which she couldnt help much). The only thing I would change would be their pork. It seemed as if they used thinly sliced pork loin or pork chop, instead of pork belly Im used to at other ramen spots.

This restaurant has great sentimental value to me; Ive been coming here for over 30 years. A favorite lunch/dinner time spot of my late godmother of Japanese decent. A long time resident of Little Tokyo, they succeed off a simple business model. Deliciously meticulous good food. Wonderful presentation, friendly staff, in a dining room that has not changed one bit. This is, to me, is especially comforting. Each dish, each order, each visit immerses me back into my childhood. This eating experience is rare these days, and I hope as many people can experience this as possible before its gone into the history books. Picture below is of Katsudon.

Very un-Japanese service. Food tasted like it came from reheatable packets, ot has a taste of being processed. If I wanted Golden Curry, Id go to Marukai and make it myself. The waiter lost track of guests and seated a party that arrived after mine first. We were ignored by the waiter, and neither provided a menu when we specifically requested one or waters for the table. Their ordering app is slow and barely functional. I still tipped despite the abysmally poor service, because Ill be the bigger person than the establishment Kouraku represents. Rarely do I find this kind of inadequate service in Little Tokyo.

Cash only. The place isnt well ventilated so the stuffiness and odor is what I first noticed. If youre towards the back it smelled of the alley way and if you were in the front it smelt of fish. I sat by the entrance. I ordered the Miso Ramen with an egg. The miso flavor was week, the bamboo shoots werent appetizing, and the pork tasked like over cooked roast beef. The egg was a medium hard (~8min) and over cooked to my taste for ramen. I like a soft egg (~6.5 min). It was all edible but I was hungry when I came in. I feel like there are other places in the area that could have been better so I dont think Id come back.

I stopped here because the girl at the Korean beauty shop recommended it, and was so glad she did. Ive been to a couple other spots I didnt like before.I got the Shio ramen which was really good, and I tried their miso soup. Ive been going to this spot for over 20 years and only ever ordered one single dish, the Tenshinhan and it is AMAZING. Everyone who Ive brought with me has ordered various other dishes and everyone always tells me how great the food is there.Until recently, they only took cash, but probably due to pandemic, they now accept square orders and Venmo.Theyre open pretty late, so definitely go there if you want good comfort food later in the evenings.

I would go 3.5-4 stars. They met, but did not exceed my expectations. The food came out pretty good, but Ive seen better presentation at other Japanese Chinese restaurants. Very large portions for the price. Chahan, pan fried noodles, and chicken karaage were good. I don’t think the gyoza was homemade. The robot was fun. Overall, a really fun dining experience. Also, the place might look empty, but it isnt! I dont know why they sit everyone in the back.

Forgot to take pictures this time, but Kouraku is really nice. The place is a bit small but its still pretty comfy. The food was very standard Japanese fare, yknow your curries, ramen, fried noodles, but they were all delicious!Went with a group of people and so we got to try all of it. The yakisoba and curry especially are my personal favorites, and the large portion is well worth it for the price. Lol just a warning tho that their spicy ramen is not the same as a level 1 spicy ramen. We got one of each and the results were surprising. The regular spicy ramen has a small kick at the beginning but the level 1 spicy ramen has a long lingering chile feel. 🥵Food aside, the service was excellent! Our server was super helpful and extremely nice. That being said, make sure to include your tip in your payment. I know that sounds obvious lol but theres two ways to pay: either in person or at your table through Venmo. I paid through Venmo, and after was trying to figure out how to tip when the server came and explained that you cant pay tip separately through Venmo, you just have to include it in the payment the same way you would in person. My bad dude...😖Soo verdict: the place is small but comfy, the food is delicious and homey, and the workers are kind and very helpful. 5 out of 5 for me.

We stayed in Little Tokyo for our 10 year anniversary. This place is a hidden gem, I didnt pick anything off the menu for myself instead I asked the waitress what she would recommend. She suggested we try the miso ramen and the tonkatsu ramen. Those were the best broths I have had in ramen ever. We ended up eating there everyday, and got recommendations from the staff that worked there.The charshu fried rice was amazing, I always have a slight expectation for charshu to be a bit dry, but theirs was not dry at all. The fried rice was amazing, we will be getting a full order to go on our way out of town.If you read this please help support this great restaurant and the wonderful staff by going by and eating their amazing food.On a side note they do dine in or to go during these covid times. Been coming to this Ramen shop for years. Its delicious, with great classical style ramen anyone can find appealing. I suppose my only complaint would be that most of the base broth for the Ramen are chicken and I prefer pork broth, but that doesnt change the amazing favor of each ramen choice you get. This historical place is also one of the first Ramen shops opened in America, so great little tourists location. The building is amazing and overall love this location. Went in for a little something to “fill the void”. We were trying to find a place within walking distance of rental apartment at 6:30 on a Friday night in DTLA. Did not want a huge meal. Kouraku was a good decision! Shared appetizers with the hubby and they were great! They have lots of fan favorites like ramen (many styles), karaage chicken, chicken katsu, gyoza & much more. My favorites are the katsu donburi & oyako donburi (rice bowl). I eat here, a lot and cannot complain, in any way, about the quality of the ingredients, or the all around service, but last night, I was devistated. After walking in and seeing the Hot Champs displayed, proudly, on the wall, near the entrance, for having completed Kourakus own spicy Habanero ramen challenge, a week, before. I amped myself up for it, and decided I was ready. We attempted to eat there the day before, but they had closed at 2:53am. So, when I got there, I ordered their Tonkotsu broth at the highest spice level, which is level 10 and let them know I wanted my picture, on the wall, next to the other Hot Champs. At first, our waitress seemed to not have a clue about any ramen challenge or knowledge of any pictures, on the wall. I ignored, this and asked for the level 10 spicy broth, anyway, without meat. They brought the bowl of ramen, out, with meat, and after showing the waitress the wall of Hot Champs, I began demolishing my bowl of hell fire. I finished every delicious drop of broth and every scrumptious bit of noodle. I, then, proceeded to inform several of the waiters and waitresses, including, the one that took the order. To my astonishment, every one of them acted confused and told me they didnt know what I was talking about. So, now, I feel as though, I have reason enough to suspect, that this spice challenge is just a hook attached to a fishing line, in attempts to drag in more customers. I am truly disappointed.

Ramen can be scary for vegetarians. Most of the time, youre given a bland vegetable broth that tastes quite simply like salt and water. Kourakus vegetarian ramen broth was incredibly flavourful and delicious. Also, cheap beer on a hot Summer night with my Ramen was godlike.

About six years ago Thanksgiving my wife and I were spending the night in Loa Angeles after a Rolling Stones concert at Dodger Stadium. It was late and my wife was tired, but I wasnt . I went down to the hotel lobby to ask the bell hop if he new anywhere that was still open.He pointed me in a direction and thats how I eventually found Koraku. The place was packed. The cooks stood shoulder, to shoulder. There were huge stock pots with each type of stock. Fish, Chicken, Pork, Beef the woks were set over rocket engine burners.I ordered a large bottle of Japanese beer, sat back and took it all in.Someone asked me what I was doing there, and why I was alone.

Everytime I go to Little Tokyo, I always have to eat at Kouraku. They have the best food to eat, my favorite of all time is the pork fried rice! I would definitely would recommend anyone to eat there.

Want Japanese soul food? Then dont bother going anywhere else. This is the real deal. The nikudango and Oyakodonburi is awesome! I know they specialize in ramen but their dishes are great too~

Staff seems a bit standoffish, but overall their dishes are quite tasty. Still prefer Shin Sen Gumi for an overall experience to be honest, but Kouraku is a good alternative

The food is good. Just dont like the way the waiters & waitresses serve the food to you with their fingers inside the bowl of foods. Unsanitary. It is a violation of health codes.

This is a Japanese diner with some Chinese and Korean dishes. Its all about comfort food, so expect ramen, rice bowls, dumplings, etc. No sushi. Service is quick and the food is satisfying. Cash only.

This cute little ramen shop in Little Tokyo has a wide range of different kinds of ramen. I personally prefer the tan tan men or tonkutsu. They staff is very nice and it is always clean.They also have a wall of Hot Champs for you spice enthusiasts. Eat a bowl of ramen with 5 full scoops of habanero and they will put your face on the wall no matter how ugly you may be.
