Krua Thai Restaurant in Monterey

We love Thai food so we wanted to try out Krua in Monterey. We started off with the chicken satay appetizer and shrimp in a blanket. Both was very good but I especially liked the shrimp in the blanket. It was crispy, sauce had just enough sweetness abd the shrimp was nice and tender. I definitely recommend it!For dinner we chose egglplant with tofu, cucumber salad, pad kee mao or what we call drunken noodles with chicken, green curry with chicken and for dessert the sticky rice with mango. We chose #3 for heat.The Eggplant was delicious, sauce was so good only thing was tofu was a little over cooked to me. Cucumber salad was nice and refreshing and love the light dressing. The pad kee mao or what we call drunken noodles was ok. Were use to a different style so in all fairness when we compared it to what we usually get we were disappointed. Chicken was a little bland for my taste. The green curry with chicken was delicious and sauce was my favorite, again chicken was a little bland for me. The dessert which is one of my favorite was quite disappointing because the mago was so wayyyyy too tart. So it ruined the dessert for us. It almost tasted like lemon was added to the mango before they served it. Not sure if thats what they did but thats how it tasted.I ordered the wonton soup for my Dad for take out. Lots of veggies, good amount of wonton, soup was tasty.So overall food was ok but it seemed to be a local favorite cause there was many returned customers and restaurant was full. So I would say definitely try them out see what you think. Service was very good and friendly.Enjoy!

The service was fast and efficient. I appreciate that they placed our order ahead of the two tables of 6 that had arrived just before us. My friend liked her dish (Pad Thai) . I ordered the tofu red curry and it was okay, but not my favorite red curry I’ve had.

My partner and I are from Malaysia, known for its diverse flavour in food and culture. Including Thai cuisines. He and I had the Thai fried rice and the Thai green curry lunch sets. The set came with a bowl of coconut soup and Thai ice tea, which tasted decent. But the mains had so much room for improvement.Firstly, the Thai fried rice lacked its flavour, wasn’t really fried as the rice was still kind of white, too salty, and the rice was too wet to be called fried rice. The pork that came with it also lacked its flavour.Secondly, the Thai green curry wasn’t even green. Instead, it was a yellowish mushroom soup colour. There was decent flavour for this one, but it was way way too salty. I couldn’t finish it even if I just picked at the vegetables and meat with the white rice.As a solution, I thought I would inform the waitress about how salty it was and whether they can do something about it to make it more edible, to which she then informed the what seems to be the manager or owner of the restaurant. But after letting him in on how salty it was for consumption, he proceeded to tell me the green curry had no salt in it, but was due to the soy sauce that’s always been used in their ‘ingredients’ (that information literally helped with nothing). He also went on to say that literally no one has ever had a problem with it, and that’s just how it’s always been cooked. He brushed off the small critique, was not accommodating, and gave no solution to the overly salty problem. Gave off a snobbish first impression.Both my partner and I left without finishing our meals as it unbearable.

Fresh, clean, on time, and always delicious! The service is five-star! They are one of the most adaptable restaurants we’ve ever been to. Many restaurants mess up orders because they don’t listen to what the person is saying. or they don’t check the order with what they’re packing. For five years that we’ve gone there twice a month. We’ve never had an order messed up, which I really appreciate. Krua Thai is clean and the food is always fresh. They have a wonderful menu that caters to everyone. Since I am a on and off Vegetarian, they are very accommodating. . I find them to be five star all the way around! Sometimes we dine there, but mostly we get takeout, they have never messed up an order. When they say it’s going to be ready it’s ready. We are very adventurous diners, so we try all kinds of things. Their food is always delicious! Five stars in every aspect!

This place is excellent. The food and cost are fantastic.The only downside is that (and maybe its because they leave the door open??) there are a ton of little flies or nats, particularly if you sit next to the wall. One flew inside of my glass. The Thai Iced Tea is delicious, but really... all of the food was. I did get a salad (not included type), appetizer, main dish, and a drink that wasnt soda pop.

Great selection, authentic food! Excellent customer service. The menu does not offer many pictures but it has a description of what each item is. Several items on the menu unavailable due supply/demand. Clean and good environment!

We came here to enjoy a meal, but when we arrived the man at the door treated us very poorly. We are not exactly sure why? Seems that he discriminates against kids ? We were also a mixed race group, so maybe both? We told him we are a party of 5 and he looked around the restaurant ( which was half empty) and told us that he was very busy and if he sat us it would take him a long time to serve us. We were 4 diverse adults and a mature and well behaved 7 year old child. He said please dont eat if you arent patient people” and rattled on about reasons he could not serve us. We had just walked in the door and asked for a table for 5 and had no other exchange. So we turned around and walked out as it appeared he did not want our business.***After reading some other reviews here it is clear that this guy discriminates against people with kids/ families as there are other reviews here that state the same thing ! So odd. We went around the corner and spent almost $200 at the Chinese restaurant since he did not want to serve us.

I thought the spicy eggplant dish was good The pad kee mao noodles were too soft and the flavor was good. They have very decent Thai food but what would keep me coming back is their service. Our waiter was very professional, hard working and attentive to his tables and environment.

The restaurant demanded a minimum order of seven main courses for our group of seven(no appetizer included), with a clear focus on profit rather than customer accommodation. The manager explicitly and repeatedly insisted we not be seated unless we ordered seven main courses, emphasizing their priority of profit over customer service. The restaurant was empty and the manager himself was seated on one of the tables. Would never recommend visiting this restaurant

YOU NEED TO READ THIS REVIEW. This is the first time Ive experienced this kind of discriminatory practice. We arrived with 2 kids (Baby and 5 yr old), and my 80 yr old mother. This guy/waiter (Im assuming he is the owner due to his assertiveness) proceeds to say (no tables available and at least a 40 minute wait) when theres clearly 2 tables available and at least 2 other parties almost finished with their meals. Keep in mind that there 2-3 other parties in line - but he came straight to us and didnt deny the others in line.Im assuming the way we were dressed/looked and because we had 2 kids/senior that we were denied. We are in 2023 - We shouldnt be having these kind of issues and there should be repercussions to discrimination like this.DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. If I can prevent one person to spend a single penny and more people refuse to be treated like this.... then this piece of &@!* individual will rethink his discriminatory ways.Check his other 1-star reviews - He has a pattern of behavior thats very consistent of the discrimination we experienced.
