Currently closed fo to fire next door over a year ago. Looks like construction is happening but there is definitely no food being served here at the moment.
Just picked up Baked Salmon Roll and Scallop Roll for my son. He looooves Kushiyus food and earned a treat, and this is what he chose.
Came all the way from Nyc to enjoy the great dishes they offer. The staff is very friendly as well.
The ambiance for the outdoor seating was nice, but after our drink order was placed we were immediately forgotten about. A different waitress than the one that took the drink order finally came to check on us and we explained that we were still waiting for the 3 different kind of rolls we requested. When it finally arrived, all 18 rolls were on one large, round, boring plate. Very tiny and no presentation effort even attempted. I understand with the new limited seating rules it can get busy but if it wasnt for Loanna saving the day and checking on us, who knows if we wouldve even gotten our food. I dont know about other people, but I like to enjoy each order of rolls at a comfortable pace, not all at once like there was no consideration in the preparation of the food. Their menu layout was not very attractive or user friendly either. I dont think well be coming back here...there are too many sushi places to try that are offering the outdoor seating.
Hostess was extremely rude and was discriminating our group. We waited for 30 minutes for anyone acknowledge us! There was about 4 other groups ahead of us and every new group that came into the restaurant they were seated before us! The hostess needs to know the world doesnt evolve around her!
Absolutely the Best Sushi in Town, I truly miss their Asian rolls and also their Grilled Sea Bass Robata . I hope they reopen soon after they fix up the place soon . Come on guys Hurry up and reopen the place soon in 2022 we will be there waiting in line. :-)
One of my favorite sushi restaurants. Perfect cut rolls with thin layer of freshly steamed smooth texture rice rolled over best cuts of fish smothered with some of the most unique & balanced flavored sauces, cut in small pieces where it can easily be fit in mouth & displayed in perfection. I also love their tiny grilled skewers of fish & etc... oh so good 😋
My first time at this place and I gotta say, this is my new favorite sushi spot. The service is really good. They have the best beef skewers Ive ever tasted AND their sashimi is so fresh and tasty. Highly recommend the tuna tower. Will be back again!
The sushi is fantastic. Servers pay attention to detail and the ingredients are incredibly fresh and healthy. Would recommend the freshwater eel roll and any of the cooked fish rolls.

The food is always good here. You think youre not getting enough, and by the time you finish, yo can barely walk. Everything is always fresh and they customize the rolls how I want it. The only thing is - service is a little slow. But - still worth coming to.
We had an amazing dinner date here last night! My date is a regular and it was my first time. They were a little busy when we got there, but served us beer until our spot at the sushi bar opened up. Awesome!The food was amazing!!!!!! The seabass, mushroom & pepper skewers were out of this world wonderful. The tuna belly sushi was melt in your mouth delicious and the rolls were to die for. My tummy was a happy camper :)If you like sushi, you have to eat here. You will be coming back for more and so will I.
This used to be my to go spot, the chefs are great, the owner is very humble, however they slightly raise their prices on everything every 3-6 months. The servers however are not very professional, they often forget to get you your water, or the straw that you told them to bring to you. One time after the server spilled water all over me I did not leave a tip and as I handed the bill and got up to leave the restaurant after I finished my food the lady pulled my jacket from my arm and told me with her broken English that I forgot the tip. Very rude...
Our server made a lot of recommendations for us and if we had special requests he made changes to the rolls. Fresh and delicious and not too expensive. Parking is in the shopping center - there is also a lower level for more parking. My favorite is the lemon roll and the yellowtail sashimi.
Gourmet, creative Japanese dishes with extra large sushi bar and generous table seating area. Expensive but enticing menu. As a Japanese food connoisseur who visits Japanese restaurants around the world, Kushiyu ranks right up there with the best.
The food wasnt as fresh as I would have liked & ended up vomiting everything up at 3am. For a $200 bill I feel like that is unacceptable. The service wasnt terrible just a little annoying that we have to look at the menu online.
Amazing food, I would recommend the fresh water eel sushi. A bit on the expensive side, but I would say its worth it. Almost everything I tried there is on my top 50 favorite dish list. One word to describe this place would be: immaculate.

What a great sushi and yakitori spot in the Valley. I wish this place was closers to home, Im lo9king for a new spot as my usual place under new ownership and im not digging it at all!!When youre seated youre given 3 menus. At first I didnt like it, but I found thats its pretty easy to order this way, as you dont have to fumble around a big messy ill oriented menu.This place has all my favorite kinds of fish... Toro, mackerel, uni, and tuna. What I really love was that it was all nice quality, and there is a yakitori menu.As far as sushi places go, I really like this one, even though I wanted to hate it!I highly recommend this place even if youre far awayUntil next time...
Unreasonably overpriced 👎 Also, their posted prices are far off! For example salmon sushi is $7 vs $4.50 online. However, manager claims that they have nothing to do with internet prices. Yeah, right... He just didn’t want to accept responsibility. I don’t think Google or Yelp will be bothering themselves managing your business page on their platforms. I think Kushiyu are making enough money to hire a person that would ensure they display accurate information. Otherwise, it’s called a false advertisement.
My favorite sushi spot. they have the best sushi by far. the fish is always fresh and they have so many items on the menu. the sea bass skewers are my favorite
Great sashimi choices by the bar. I recommend going on a weekday as opposed to the weekend which can get a little hectic. Wait time on a Friday is roughly 30 mins, not terrible but avoidable. They have the Cali rolls too but avoid at all costs and ask the chef for omakase - theyll treat you right.
The best Sushi place in town. I go to this place quite often. The food is out of this world and the service is very good. Taka son is the one to look for great sushi. Try their kebabs too😊
The grill items are what keep us coming here, for years now. The Jumbo scallop roll is delicious as well, but scallops keep getting cut thinner and thinner each time.The grilled items portion sizes have shrunken to undeniably small.Sitting at the sushi bar will get you the most fun. Just be careful; the chubby hispanic waitress (wt ton of makeup) will spill everything on your new jacket unapologetically, AND shell take your PAID check with your cash tip in it away quickly!
I am a sushi fanatic and this place is amazing! The sushi chefs are kind and helpful and the quality of the fish is superb. I now live in a different state and definitely miss coming here!
Great lil spot for locals and visitors. Late night is q bit rough. Best time to go is around 530 to sit in front of your favorite sushi chef.
We were sitting outside of the restaurant for half an hour and the lady came and said we called u 3 times which was lies,honestly we were 3 and nobody called usWe talk to the manager and the manager was very rude,and made us to wait again,he wasnt polite at allAt least he could have said sorryWe were starving and when we got the food I was almost dying.Honestly everything was based on true story.
I have eaten here a few times with my wife and some friends. The food is not bad, however the service is rude, slow, and terrible. The prices are not bad, however when you receive the check there are ridiculous charges on it. For some reason every time I receive the bill it does not add up, and this is not the first time. I asked to speak to the person in charge to have him explain the reason for this and he straight laughed in our face. He was rude, had a terrible demeanor and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I will never eat here again. Always make sure to check your bill and make sure that you are not being over charged the way that we have. This place likes to add charges thinking that no one will notice or pay attention, and when you inquire about them, you get laughed at in your face by this rude new manager (Shawn?) This place has become a madhouse for money and service has gone to hell. I know of several other establishments in the san fernando valley with better sushi nowadays. Needless to say, I will NEVER return to kushiyu again. Hopefully this saves someone money and a lot of anger by avoiding Kushiyu altogether. WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!
Ok so what do you do when you dont like Sushi and your spouse LOVES it and you want to enjoy dinner with them? Try Kushiyaki! Simply put, it is grilled meat on a skewer! The King salmon and rock shrimp are to die for !!!!!!! They also have sea bass, scallops, chicken (made a few different ways i.e. chicken with green onion, chicken meatballs, etc), beef, miso beef and of course my favorite, lobster! My hubby usually orders sushi that consists of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, albacore, spicy tuna rolls, spicy yellowtail rolls, honey rolls and lemon rolls. I tried to find the menu online but have not found the actual menu. The menus Im finding are not completely accurate. The kushiyaki is served with two skewers of meat and range in prince from $4-$15 with $15 being the most expensive for the grilled lobster. Depending on what you eat, it can get expensive or you can keep the prices within your budget. They arent open all day so you need to check for their hours of operation. They get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings so go when they first open. Sitting at the sushi bar is fun and my hubby told me (and I did find it to be true) that traditionally speaking, you buy the sushi chef a drink if you sushi is amazing. 90% of the time, we buy the sushi chef a drink; if we dont, its because he wasnt in our budget in additional to our tip! The servers are friendly but not warm; they all are busy and you can tell. They do tend to your needs but dont expect too many smiles. They have various greens they can grill (none to my liking) but they also have salad. I get white rice on the side and its only .50! My kind of place and one of our favorites!
Not too happy with the host, but the food is so great. The corn tempura salad and lemon grass roll are #1! Of course - the saki is fun too
Im a sushi junkie and this is the best sushi around. Highest quality, greatest tasting sushi, very quick and kind sushi chefs. We go every week and Ive never had a bad experience. Love it!
Chef Charlie is the best chef at the sushi bar make sure you get the seats in front of him, but my favorite are the skewers beef younge, chicken hearts, chicken gizzards, and amazing sea bass I can eat it all day
Some of the best sushi in two counties. I drive all the way from Camarillo. Very popular, often a wait but worth it. They stay open late, 10:30 pm weekdays, 11 pm weekrnds. Their extensive kushiyaki menu is also a big draw, especially if you have non-fish eaters in your group.
I have been coming here for over 30 years, as always the food is fabulous. The service great. The best part, there is something for every one.
This is my favorite sushi restaurant ever. It blows all the fancy Nobu, Katsura, and sugarfish away. One of the best things about this place is the kushiyaki menu because they have a bunch of incredible things they make on a special grill. Go for the seabass and chicken balls for kushiyaki and the albacore special is my favorite of the sushi dishes.
Food was barely OK. Prices reflected high end sushi places, but taste was equivalent to supermarket sushi. Service was slow and they forgot several things. Dont waste your time going here.
Great local Tarzana sushi! Must try the sea bass skewers...they melt in your mouth. Excellent quality!It gets very busy so arrive early expecting a little wait.
Kushiyu has excellent service and hard working staff members. Recently I ordered take out and the food was just as delicious and the staff went above and beyond. 10/10 would recommend!!

Waited for 1hr after as I watched the host seat parties that arrived after us that were larger. Just get get more business. At this point 9 parties of 3 or more were seated even though they arrived after us.
Don’t recommend eating at this place went there with A friend I haven’t been there in a while ordered over $200 dollars with the food Told two waitresses that I’m going to have a cigarette break they said OK I ordered dessert on top of it come back to my table and everything was thrown away and cleaned up they totally ruined my night talk to the manager or/owner Sean he did not care at all what had happened had no care whatsoever about customers Service definitely recommend others sushi spots and I noticed they were very dirty the food did not taste the same made mistakes on my orders etc.
Compared to my favorite, sushi gen, in downtown japan town, that I rate 5 stars, Kushiya is a generous one star minus. at sushi gen sashimi lunch is 4 or 5 times more generous serving of the freshest thickly sliced fish, giant clam, etc. Kushiya was half full today at lunch. its not unusual to have to wait an hour or more at S.G. Lunch price at both restaurants about $16.00. Im through experimenting with neighborhood, high rent, uninspired yupi sushi bars.
It is the best sushi place, they have just the right combination of temperature of warm/room temperature rice and not too cold fish. I recommend it to everyone
I love the food and I always go there but the smell is too much, they need a better ventilation/air circulation.

Yuck! - witnessed two thing you dont see every day at a restaurant. Hot food Chef dropped some raw food on the ground and picked it up and placed it right on to the burner. I indicated that to the sushi chef and he said he would check the various cameras later as the hot food chef denied it. Explained that unless they removed the food now someone was eating real ground meat/ seafood. He played ignorant but thats logical as he was the same chef that was preparing tonights specialty (a crab dish) and ate it with the chef to his right and went straight back to preparing food for customers without washing his hands. Good thing I was already waiting for my bill - ditto the other comments that they are very rude and slow. Depart of Health Services already called and will make a visit with 3 - 5 days. Avoid it!

2019-04-14 16:17:41The Mrs. used to live here for 5 years, this was one of her most favored restaurant. Now 10 years later, we are visiting together LA and she was excited to take me there. Sat on the bar and enjoyed a very good sushi. The Sea Bass barbecue was amazing! Dipped in a special sauce, the fish has an amazing fresh taste. We also had an excellent entree of salmon tower. A dish name rice cake was pretty good and the lemon roll was okay. Also ordered a mushroom soup that was too salty to my taste, too dominant soy taste. For the prices, was a bit over priced (over 100$ for 4 shared dishes).

2021-09-29 02:32:42We ordered 2 sashimis, crispy rice and 3 rolls. The last roll that got to the table had a BUG in it. The moment we saw that, they took the meal away and we stopped eating the rest of the food. The only food we ate was up to that point. The waiter took off the roll from our order, we asked them to compensate us more as we were hungry but did not want to eat the rest of the food because we were grossed out. The waiter said he cannot give us any discount and that he doesnt care if we leave a bad review. Food was bad and service was horrible.

The food is truly delicious. Service is usually spot on but the big issue is nights and weekends can easily get busy.The shiitake mushroom is also a must if you are a fan of mushrooms. Overall, one of my favorite sushi restaurants.

Also we love the spicy tuna hand rolls, yellowtail belly sushi, tuna belly hand rolls, seabass skewers, spicy tuna rice cakes and sushi- everything is superb. Also love the yellowtail collar. We ate here for both lunch and dinner many many times.

2020-06-20 23:58:05Lovely place & delicious delicacies. I highly recommend the sword fish skewers as well as the LOTUS root with chicken. Currently they have a great outdoor dining area. Staff is fully in gear for current situations with shielded masks and all.
