(Disclaimer - my experience was more of a 4 star experience but to be fair its not the restaurants fault.)The service is awesome! They were on top of everything and very attentive despite it being a full house.The food portions are good and everything tasted great.I love the authentic Japanese decor including the tatami rooms.So I guess the only problem is that this place is popular amongst the college crowd? The night we were there, there was a party of at least 16 college-age girls being loud and obnoxious in the tatami rooms. Im not kidding when I say that I happened to have ear plugs and was so relieved that I was able to wear them during dinner, but I know other guests complained and asked to be seated away from them.Aside from loud parties and lack of parking, this place is great!

This is a nice traditional Japanese restaurant located at the high traffic corner of las positas and state. There is ample parking in their free lot. The food is decent. I usually just get sushi when I go. I prefer the shrimp tempura and the Hawaiian roll. One cool aspect is having dinner in one of the rooms. They are better than some of the other rolls Ive tried. All in all I think there are better sushi options in town. This one is just ok. I love sushi, but I dont come here very often.

We ordered the tiger roll and BSCR, as well as the tempura udon. I love the tiger roll so much and my partner liked the udon. The food was really amazing. If only we had waited for a shorter time😂 better to come early as soon as it opens.

Friendly service and food was ok. We ordered fried Gyoza which were crispy and not oily. We also ordered 3 sushi rolls but the ahi in one didnt taste fresh. The booths are currently set up with plexiglass between them for COVID-19 compliance. They also have an outdoor tent dining.

We ordered to go, the chicken katsu, teriyaki top sirloin and the tear roll. Which has eel, gobo, tempura crunch inside and topped with tuna, salmon, avocado with spicy & eel sauce.Everyone really enjoyed their choices. The katsu was fried perfectly, the steak was grilled to med rare as i requested and the tear roll was fresh.If we lived in the neighborhood, this would be one of our favorite restaurants.

The yakitori was cooked to perfection. Kyoto has been an experience each time that I’ve dined here. Make sure to try at least 3-4 rolls and a hand roll with some warm sake. During these Covid times the spaces are neatly separated for a safe atmosphere. If you’re dining out - make sure to call far in advance so that you get your meal right on time.

My first time and I usually base my grades by food first then service then atmosphere. Well overall 4. Cali rolls average, but I had the salmon skin hand roll and was very very good! Also a variety of veggies for the tempura. My son had there steak teriyaki dinner and was very good. I would go again to try other dishes. Service was attentive but not bothersome. Nice waiters and service with a smile. The place typical Japanese decor with a 70s/80s touch. Parking little small and the bathrooms could be a bit brighter. But again overall food was good along with the service. I will go back.

This is about the service, not about the food. It is New Year Eve, we ordered food from Doordash around 6pm, and it said the order would be complete around 6:30pm. We went to the restaurant, dozens of people were waiting at the front door in the cold evening. We asked, and the restaurant said our order is not ready. So we joined other people waiting outside, and there were more and more people joining the waiting. During the waiting, the restaurant occasionally brought out some bags and checked names, but with a very low frequency, maybe 1 bag per 10 minutes. After waiting for one hour, we couldn’t stand it anymore and went into the restaurant, going through a crowd of people. It turned out our food bag has been sitting there for a long time (according to another customer next to it). However, for the whole time, we were not being called. Just waiting in cold, the restaurant didn’t care if the customers got their food. I tried to ask for an explain from the restaurant, but there wasn’t even an eye contact from them. WORST experience. Sadly this is the New Year Eve. We respect the efforts made by the chefs, but the service is not acceptable at all.

This place took us in with no wait during peak dinner hours. It’s really cute inside with a couple private floor seated table rooms. We got a booth and enjoyed our food. The agedashi tofu is HUGE. Our sushi roll was fresh and filling. Service was efficient and pleasant. Sake came hot. Would come again.

An off night at a quality restaurant. 80% chance you’d love it there, but one dish was awful on November 13, 2022. We ordered five dishes, and the service was great, the mushroom salad was good (avocado was served as a weird garnish but it was fine). The sashimi was tasty and my eel roll delicious; and the ten Zara was pretty good but somebody left the ice cubes in the cold buckwheat noodles. No biggie. The problem was the oyako ju, it was the worst godawful chicken, like it had freezer burn or had been boiled once before they started trying to broil and prepare it, the egg tasted funny, I couldn’t eat it, sent it back. But based on the rest of the restaurant and our dishes, I’d give them another chance someday.

It was my first time eating here. I was with my son and we ordered the state roll, sunset roll, and the Washington roll, plus nigri and sashimi. Was so good and the quantity was perfect. We also had the spicy edamame that was so delicious. The sauce was perfect. We are definitely going back to try more different rolls. The customer service was great. Thank You so much! Pretty solid sushi, 1st sushi joint Ive been to since moving here. Probably because its close to home. The spicy jalapeño roll was *chefs kiss. Honestly, pretty dang good. Havent tried everything here yet but I think most of the rolls are probably solid. Good stuff 👍

We have fallen in love with this place during our short visit to Santa Barbara. Their rolls are really good. Other choices are also fine, but rolls are the best. Very nice, children friendly place. Reservations are recommended, they might be full in the evenings.

I have been eating here for about a decade now. Started out at their awesome sushi bar getting tasty sashimi. Now, busy at work I rely on their take out services. New York Steak Teriyaki and Rice feeds me every week! It’s so very consistent. The woman who is always there treats me like family:) Most of the staff are very kind. This place rocks!!

Went here for my birthday and it was fantastic. The staff was incredibly nice and the food was delicious. We got some appetizers and a ton of sushi. Even did some Sake Bombs.There are rooms here you can rent out for a more private dinner with friends, but we werent able to book one. I still had a great time.I recommend the volcano roll if you like spicy.

Food is wonderful and fresh. Nothing took too long to be prepared and brought to the table. Staff seems to bond with local regulars which can be good and bad. Great if youre one of the regulars, but our server walked away from the table to see off a party of regulars basically as we were talking. Aside from that though there wasnt anything wrong and Id totally return if Im ever in the area.

Great customer service! The specialty sushi rolls are hearty filling options. Tasty sushi! The cut off private area for bigger groups can get a bit hot, so Id advise cool clothes even in winter or leave the door slightly open as the AC machine in the corner doesnt work as the hostess told us.

This place is seriously one of my favorite restaurants! I have taken huge parties for both my birthdays in the past couple years and its always been a pleasure! The service is always excellent and they are so wonderful! I love the atmosphere and I love the Sushi. Its not the cheapest, but its definitely not the most expensive and its so delicious! I highly recommend this place, they also are the best equipped for Sake Bombs! I cannot say how much more I love this place!

Apart from regular tables, they have this traditional dining room to the side hidden behind sliding doors with the traditional low tables and you sit on the floor (they have low chairs with back rests) and leave shoes on the steps outside the room - fun setting for a large group.

Food and service was great. I walked in with a large to go order for my office and they were very polite and more than accommodating.Lunch prices were great! You get a good amount of food for the price (normal pricing would be fair). I ordered a variety of things (tempura, chicken teriyaki, ton katsu, and two different sushi platters) and everyone at the office was happy with the taste and quality for the price.Sushi is made fresh in house after ordering. It was awesome to get to watch at the sushi bar. They had a large selection of sushi and sushi rolls to choose from which was a little intimidating to be honest.My only complaint is that my combination tempura did not come with the scallops that are listed in the menu, leaving me a little hungry (and disappointed) as the shrimp and veggies that were included were delicious. I chose the combination tempura over the shrimp tempura so I could get the scallops.Overall, the experience was good. The atmosphere for dine in is really nice and I would like to come back with my wife sometime to enjoy that.

This place has a great, extensive menu of both Japanese food and sushi. The service was friendly, we were promptly seated, and they have substantial plexiglass dividers around the booths making this restaurant well situated for covid dining.I eat quite a lot of sushi, and my impression was that while the fish was fresh, the avocado was not (or bruised), and they put either avocado or crab in about all their rolls, so I actually didnt enjoy the rolls nearly as much as similar rolls served elsewhere.Everything seemed to be made using quality ingredients (except the avo and imitation crab) and plenty of them, but the flavors were just a bit off.. Too big of chunks of unagi on the Hawaiian roll, and mac nuts on sushi just didnt work.. not enough fish inside the volcano roll.. The kinds of things which may well indicate a newer sushi chef, or just someone who doesnt fully appreciate the delicate balance of flavors which makes the best sushi so delightful.

The food was good, the service was non-existent. Our server took our order and brought us our drinks and then he didnt talk to us again. He spent the rest of the time cleaning. Im guessing it was because they were closing in 45 minutes, he could leave sooner if it was clean. The cooks brought us our food and the host checked up on us and brought us drink refills. I ended up giving a tip to the host, Ive never done that before. Also, the booth seats are wore out.

The food itself was very tasty but the wait time was horrible. I will say though we came in on a busy night for dinner. We were a party of two and ordered drinks, and the waitress came back for food order and we responded with we need a few more minutes. 30 minutes pass and nobody ever takes our order. We finally flag them down and they apologize for the wait once we told them. Another 30 passes and we only got 1 out of 4 of our items. One roll, and I flag down another waiter and ask the status of our food. He comes back and hands us another roll and that the baked rolls will take a little longer. We said it was fine. Another 30 minutes passes and I have yet to receive my order so I have to ask the waiter again if he could check on them. He comes back with the rolls a few moments later and tells me Oh they just came out of the oven luckily. I eat one and it wasnt even hot. My thoughts were they forget. Two hours and a half after we enter the restaurant originally we still have to flag down someone to get a check. I felt bad it was busy but we spent way too long here.

This store receives a 1 star review since both its service and food were terribly lackluster. The food took over 1 hour after ordering to get to us, even after we asked the waiter several times what the status of pur food was. We were given incorrect platters of food as they neglected to give us all of the tempura we had ordered. In each udon bowl there was a pitiful amount of substantive food.
