Very nice resort! Beautiful location close to beach and marina with 2 pools. Most rooms with patios or balconies. Top floor rooms have bay windows. Has a lot of charm with contemporary and updated rooms and public spaces. Top floor rooms have bay windows. Friendly, attentive staff! Great place to spend a weekend away from the crowds. We will be back!!
Came for a short work conference and thoroughly enjoyed lunch outside on the patio. Service was a little slow but mostly had to do with sooo many conference people! Lunch was delicious and the view was wonderful.
My bride and I were there 8/13-8/17/2023. We braced ourselves for possible disruptive behavior from union employee strikers. Thankfully there was none, and the resort was fully staffed.Except for minor wear and tear in the room, the visit was a 5-star. The place was clean, the staff was professional and courteous, and the food, beverages, and amenities were top quality! Thanks to the staff for a great visit!
Location and views are great. Room is nice. However, dont expect the prices to match the services. Had to endure 5 days of non-stop loud noises and sirens due to the workers strike, coupled with the loud hotel music, while trying to work remotely. NO cleaning services were provided the entire stay, nobody cared to ask me if I needed supplies, had to clean up room myself. That didnt stop them from charging resort fees and outrageous overnight parking. Management doesnt care, havent heard a word from Resort Manager Alfred Hammond (self-proclaimed godfather of hospitality) after I emailed him directly. Dont plan to return unless management changes.
The staff there were super friendly and accommodating. The food/drink prices around the pool were normal restaurant prices and not marked up like a typical hotel menu. Kids enjoyed the kiddie pool and the splash pad.The beach is close BUT the walk is gruesome with kids. REALLY steep hill. A little too much if you have to carry bags and push a stroller,etc.
We stayed here during the protesting. The protesters were at the entrance at the bottom of the hill (most of the time blocking people from coming in), but later came onto the property, into the lobby and right outside the lobby, banging drums, yelling, being obnoxious. The hotel staff did not know how to handle this. Quick thinking would have helped... How about free dinner vouchers or handing people champagne so they can feel like they are getting something during this headache. The pool had loud music to drown out the noise. The rooms were not being cleaned during this time as well. However, the staff working valet was on point, and amazing! We spent most of our time off property down by the harbor, which is just a walk down the street.
Excellent resort which it situated in an excellent location. Splurge on a room with a view and a balcony! The rooms are very clean and tidy. I would definitely stay here again.
Stayed at the Laguna Cliffs for 5 nights this past week and our stay was great. Service was exceptional and the rooms were very clean, had housekeeping daily, and the valet parking’s porters were on par with their service. We had no idea it was valet parking only, until we arrived so be aware of that in case you’re trying to avoid daily parking charges + tips.. we didn’t mind though. Also daily resort fees were added at the end but they made us aware of that too when we checked in. So overall, we were added an additional chunk on top of our room fees. Dana Point’s harbor/ beach is across the street and within a walking distance, also free trolleys are offered every 15 mins which is nice if you’re looking to explore the area out to Laguna Beach, and you don’t want to rent a vehicle. Lots of restaurants and shops around the area. If you’re okay with splurging, I definitely recommend, and would come back and stay here as it was a beautiful resort and location with lots to do!
Wedding Anniversary with KidsI typically dont write many reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. At first thought, having the kids with us for an Anniversary stay was a stretch, but I was elated once I learned about the family events: Saturday movie night, amazing pools and walking distance beach access. I always appreciate polite and attentive service. Starting from the valet parking attendant to the front desk agent, the restaurant/Outer Reef host and finally the server for our fantastic lunch. The service was excellent. Our server (cant remember her name, young girl) was a good listener regarding our food orders. Now about the room. On arrival, the room was extremely clean and even after our trashing of swim suites, sand, and kid’s stuff, our room continued to be very clean by the housekeeping attendant. Plus, provided extra towels as we requested. Ohh, the bathroom was organized and beautiful on our return to the room. I strongly suggest a stay here if you want to have a movie night and simply relax… Can’t wait to go back!
I paid $800 for a room for 1 night to getaway with my husband and to celebrate his promotion at work. I thought it would be a good idea to get a room that we can look out on the balcony and take in the views. Unfortunately, we couldnt fully enjoy our room because they were having a lovely little protest right outside of our room. This lasted 4 hours - I made SEVERAL calls and finally got thru to the front desk and they said I will have a Manager call you back well the Manager that was working on the night of 8/22/23 didnt find me or my issues important enough to call back so I went to the front desk and she said that she was busy (mind you I walked right up to the girl at the front desk) she again said that she will note it again and have the manager call me back- Manager never called me back! so in the morning before check out I went back up to the front desk and demanded to speak to a manager - I spoke to a guy named Carlos and he tried to help me the best that he could and called me back when he said he would but I was only offered a very small fee to be removed - I felt like more should have offered for the inconvenience of not being able to enjoy our patio view because of all the ruckus going on outside.... I literally had a full migraine by the time we left for dinner that night. But then again if they dont even take care of their employees who were protesting outside how I could expect for them to consider my frustrations. Mind you we originally had a room that flooded, and the toilet was clogged but we asked to get moved- we get moved then the whole protest starts - This place is a joke save your money and book somewhere else!!! I will be reaching out to corporate and will be sending them the video of what was going on right outside of our room.
The service union is on strike so much of the hotel was impacted. The kitchens were closed and they had to bring in buffet food. We ended up having to order pizza and Deneys which was disappointing. Not everything in the rooms was clean and it took till after 5 pm to get one of our rooms available. But overall a great experience for watching the fireworks.
The first picture is the line waiting to get to the valet window and then wait another 30 minutes to get your car back. The second picture shows the sidewalk ending in the cul-de-sac, with no available sidewalk or walking area down the hill if you park your car off the property.They never disclosed that this is valet only hotel until we got there. The same people who handle other cars without gloves or sanitizing the steering wheels, transferred germs to our car and we had to wipe down inside the car every time we got the car back. No overnight off property parking. You have no choice but to use the valet if you are driving in.I forgave them for giving us a room noisy facing North side street when I asked them for a quiet room. I forgave them for moving my car when the said that they will not, but forced valet parking was unforgivable.

He gave us a room with an awesome view, he remembered us and our needs and he made our experience an unforgettable one.The hotel location has a great view of Dana point and the ocean, the inside of the hotel is luxurious.
I came with a group for wirk. Rooms were nice but the group I went with faced a few issues. One of the rooms on the ground floor had an ant problem, so someone had to change rooms in the middle of the night. A lot of the amenities like good internet connection is hidden behind a pay wall which is really weird to see in a place like this hotel. The hotel is also not paying its workers adequately so they are on strike! The actual service at this hotel was phenomenal and just wish management would pay its workers better.
Rooms were alright. Bathroom appeared refurbished and nice.Overall the resort looked like a favorite business outing destination. Lot of place for office outings and events.Close to the beach, lovely views.
I DJ weddings & special events here often. The ballrooms and staff are the best. The food & service are excellent.Views are spectacular and the guest rooms are very nice.Highly recommend.
Overrall, my stay here was very mixed.ENTRANCE:When entering the hotel, the front entrance that led to the valet was closed due to a CAR CRASH. Law enforcement was there to assess the closure and made us wait 10 minutes before we could enter through the exit.Check in was very friendly and brought a staff member to show us to our room, as well as introduce us to the amenities.When we walked outside, we were met with a full on labor strike/protest that kept shouting and banging drums, as well as sounding loud sirens. Their protests would continue throughout the entirety of our 3 nights here.THE ROOM:Very nice and spacious room with two double queen beds. Pretty comfy with good support. There was a Nespresso machine as well as a mini fridge. 9 Dollars for a water bottle in the mini bar was outrageous though.The bathroom had a bathtub that we could never use, as there was no button to switch the water from the shower head to the bathtub faucet.THE SERVICE:Service was super friendly, Ill give them that. But aside from that, there were no house keepers to clean our room when we were gone due to the labor strikes/protests that were happening. When we wanted a refill on coffee pods or extra towels, we called and they brought it to our room very quickly, which was very nice.OVERRAL:Pretty decent experience. We loved their amenities, such as the pickle ball court, two separate pools, and gym that were provided. Room was great as well. The downsides were definitely the super loud noises of the worker protests and pricy amenities.
Our family had a truly fantastic time at Laguna Cliffs, from arrival to departure! Nick, the evening front desk manager, was amazing - offered an incredible room upgrade, was great with our 4 & 9-year old girls (and sensitive to parent needs & preferences), and was highly accommodating throughout our stay. He went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect! The entire staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Grounds and views were beautiful. Woke up to ton of humming birds, rabbits, lizards, etc. Our girls absolutely loved the heated outdoor pools (perfect for high 60/low 70s with a bit of clouds) and kids splash pad, as well as outdoor games (mini golf, corn hole) and indoor activities in the small Kids Club room. All had great fun at Doheny Beach, which is just a 10 min walk down hill, passing by a very fun playground. Doheny had bathrooms, beach showers, snacks & light fare, and plenty of beach gear rentals. We had delicious meals at Stacks and Vibe, also a ten minute walk down hill. All in all, particularly thanks to Nick and that incredible room and service, one of best vacation stays in years!!

Weekend with Kids and Grandma!It was my first time staying at the hotel with my two children and my mother. From the moment we arrived, I felt the attention and the service from the staff. The front desk person was very nice and explained the way to our room. My kids made a mess out of the bathroom and the housekeeping girl (I feel bad I cant remember her name) did an amazing job cleaning up after we left the room. The pool was heavenly and warm on a cold day and my kids didnt want to get out. Wow, the movie night on Saturday! I cant remember the last time I was outside at a hotel watching a movie. So much fun!! Can’t wait to go back and watch more movies…

DO NOT make a reservation at this hotel they are not ethical here and treat guests as poorly as their employees. I booked a reservation with this hotel via American Express Travel and found out the night before that they had an active strike at the hotel. I called 3 times the morning of my travel indicating I did not want to bring my 7 year old across picket lines. The representative at Amex Travel agreed that sounded like a terrible situation and they would resolve it with Marriott. The hotel manager refused to refund me for the reservation.

Bit by a couple spiders, came during a protest, and even with all that the 2 bed Queen rooms are tiny the price and the suits areA bit bigger not sure if its worth the money. You can stay is basically any resort in cali for the price this place charges
We just attended a wedding event. The location is out of this world, with breathtaking views. The personnel service is excellent, but the vallet parking can be improved significantly.

Never stayed here but did work here. Beautiful rooms & views. Kids friendly with a Laguna Room and mini golf area and splash pad and wade pool for kids. Pet friendly too, seen a cpl dogs.
Horrible customer service at check in. Management was suppose to call me about several issues I had, never did. Finally gave up.Musty, run down rooms with uncomfortable bed/sheets…on top of the rude, unbothered front desk staff makes this a definite no on a return visit. Shower also did have a door, water went everywhere.Bell service was amazing. The only part of the hotel that I was super impressed with.

Valet parking here sucks. It is mismanaged.On a Saturday morning there is line of cards backed up waiting for valets. Cherry on the cake is that the valets are stuck when they retrieve your car. Took them 35 mins to being my car on a Saturday afternoon.

Positive: Location was nice. Staff was friendly. Negative: Pool was too cold to swim. That was the primary reason we picked this hotel. Breakfast was not included which was surprising for the high room rate. We were upgraded to a king bed with pull-out couch for 4. The couch was very firm. Not a good upgrade.
The resort is gorgeous and excellent location. The property has multiple restaurants and local beach access/walking distance to the pier restaurants. The only reason I’m giving 4/5 is because they didn’t have an EV charger which really made the road-trip to Dana Point more difficult than expected.
Top notch rooms some of the wonderful water view. Very good food, fast room service. Fitness center was almost as well stocked as my local gym.
Im lucky to stay at a lot of nice Marriotts and Starwood resorts. This is a nice resort, the area is beautiful. As a Latino, I would rather stay in Los Angeles or San Diego instead of Orange County as it can be racist. However; this has nothing to do with the resort, my girlfriend and I had a relaxing time, the staff was great and the view is beautiful. I recommend it and will return.

Youssef and Madison at the front desk were exceptional. They went above and beyond to make my stay more than just a work trip. The venue is a hidden gem. It has multiple wings for rooms with multiple pools for the venue each pool has a hot tub. There are also bocce ball courts available. In addition to that, they have bike rentals, the spa and a fitness center. Wi-Fi is complimentary and there are Nespresso machines in the rooms. The hotel offers housekeeping during the am and turn down service in the evening. The restaurant on the lobby level has an array of foods and drink options and a continental breakfast. There is a breakfast buffet with omelet station downstairs in the Michelin star restaurant. It’s also a quick walk to the Marina and beach. I could go on about this place. I definitely recommend it. I will be back.
Nice location with plenty of natural outdoor beauty. The resort is pleasant, but a few touch-ups are needed as the hotel is starting to show wear. The most disappointing part is the breakfast. At first look, its a nice concept to have the oatmeal and bakery pre-packaged for easy pick up. But the bakery was stale the entire stay! The resort could do much better with the continental breakfast for the cost.

I went to this hotel by my birthday and I loved this hotel, the rooms are very clean, the attention is very good, everything I need and I asked for it was brought to my room quickly.
Wonderful location, great view of the beach and walking distance from the back of the hotel. Its closely connected to a state park that offers morning yoga! The rooms are clean and comfortable, not extravagant but spacious and pleasantly decorated. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had the breakfast buffet at their restaurant and they had lots of selections including made to order omelets. If Im ever in the area again I would definitely stay there again.
Wonderful location and property. All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. When we checked in I was asked what brought us to the hotel, I replied that we were in town for a friends wedding and that it also happened to be our wedding anniversary weekend so we were very excited for the weekend. I simply chalked it up to friendly small talk, but the next day when we arrived back to our room, we found a bottle of champagne on ice and nice card that said happy anniversary. Its the little things like this that are above and beyond. Well definitely be back to visit again
I am canceling my Bonvoy card over this hotels service. I called to cancel my trip as I was going to reschedule for a later time. I was told this was not an issue. It turned out to be an issue. Long story short, after several phone calls they never refunded my points or the voucher that was used to make the reservation as promised. The hotel says to call Bonvoy, Bonvoy says a case with the Hotel is needed and its theirs to resolve. Back and forth they go robbing points and vouchers. All these calls and time wasted is not worth it, go with Hilton.

The rooms were so comfortable on the first floor. The patio view was lovely, but I happened to be there on a windy, rainy day. The food was decent, but I wasn’t there for that. I hope my next stay has better weather.
Beautiful resort with great amenities for both vacation and business travel. I visited to see if the hotel would be suitable for a conference our company holds.Great feeling upon arrival. The hotel sits just above a green park that is above the harbor. Feels very open and spacious.Hotel rooms have been updated and are thoughtfully appointed.There are two pools-one for families and one for just adults.The spa is also lovely with a nice outdoor relaxation area.The conference spaces are also thoughtfully laid out.We did have launch in their more casual restaurant and it was delicious. Service was excellent throughout.

Overall, a great hotel in the Dana Point area. Very easy to walk to everything you may need. Our kids love the pool(s) and the amenities really cater to everyone. We ordered food and drinks by the pool a few days in a row and the prices were extremly reasonable for what you get and the servers were great. Even though I have kids myself, I really appreciate that they enforce quiet hours before 9am at the pool because sometimes people are just not considerate for other guests who want to relax or sleep in and allow their kids to scream at the pool super early.The staff gives notification of any events/weddings that may be happening during your stay which is also a plus.Everything is clean and well maintained. The only complaint I could possibly come up with is the required valet kinda sucks. We forgot something in the car and the hassle of going down and waiting in line (after paying $46 per day) just to get something out of car is super inconvenient. You also feel super rushed when you are loading/unloading luggage when departing/arriving because valet wants to push you in and out.
We were looking for a nice place to get away. We so enjoyed this resort. The bar/ casual dining has a beautiful view of the ocean. The breakfast buffet had a full range of choices included made to order omelettes!. Did not try the spa but it was right on site. The adult pool had a great view and was heated. The staff was very welcoming, efficient and attentive with every service. Thoroughly enjoyed my January get away.
Great location, great views.I enjoyed this hotel. I see some reviews of negative experiences with temperature in the room, hot water, etc. We did not have any of those issues. We were able to set our room temperature, we had plenty of hot water, and if we asked the front desk for more water, they gave it to us. We also got a massage at the spa and enjoyed their facilities.Walking distance to the harbor, the beach, and many restaurant options. Or you can get a beach bike from the hotel. Several grassy park areas, nice clean beach. I really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel has lost its mojo relative to front office, front desk, guest services, valet, bellman areas. Some groups seem young, junior, inexperienced as to what they should do or put in energy to help guests. Multiple persons encountered from guest service, front desk seem to need training on customer service, emotional intelligence. Spa, overall was very good. Location is excellent. Rooms are decent. Showers repeatedly flood bathroom floor because they only have half doors.
I stayed in two different types of room - one is one king bed located in the other side and the other is two queen beds with ocean views located in main building. My experience was the room in the main building is kind of lack of maintaining - flood in shower room, no the clean, wifi signal weak and stupid functioning of air conditioning while the king bed room in the other side of building shows better condition.Front desk/concierge is good, helpful.Fitness needs to be having better maintenance.Pools - didn’t see any onsite staff which is not good.Parking - valet only with $46 overnight. The fee is without tips!The reason for 3-star is the hotel is not what I expected, a little bit disappointed.

Location is amazing near the state park beach and wharf. Rooms are clean, little nespresso machines in the rooms are great, and the afternoon bartender, Chris, is one of the nicest dudes and makes excellent lattes in addition to the normal bar menu. I’d absolutely stay here again and again

This was one of the worst hotel stays we have had. The biggest issue is the customer service of the staff. When we arrived, we were not greeted by the valet or front desk staff. We were simply asked for our license and credit card and no “how was your trip?” to make you feel welcome. We had requested a crib for our young child. We asked again when we arrived and told it would be brought right up. We attempted to eat dinner in the restaurant and there was no staff to help us find a seat; we finally went to the front desk and they got someone to help us. We ended up leaving the restaurant, because we were never served. When we came back from dinner almost 2 hours later, we had to call down to check on the crib again; told once again it would be right up. We finally got it 3 hours after we arrived once we went downstairs to ask for a manager. When we asked for a manager we were simply told “he left.” We asked when he would return and Chris, the front desk worker said “10 minutes.” No one ever once offered to help us or ask what we needed. When we finally received the crib, the person did not speak to us; she just walked in, opened the crib hastily, and walked out while we thanked her. She seemed extremely frustrated. No one ever apologized to us for the delay.Over the two days, the valet never once said “how are you?” to us or anyone else we saw them encounter. The staff at this hotel needs to undergo some serious customer service training or a change in staff/culture. Our room had dust all over the tables and dried soap in the shower. Definitely not worth any of the money we spent at the hotel. They are experiencing some major shortcomings at this hotel. The location is wonderful, and we loved going out and playing in the lawn. This hotel is just not what we would expect from a Marriott. It felt like I was staying in a cheap hotel with no customer service. We will not return.
Our stay was mostly for business with a day for my wife and I as well. For the purpose of my meetings, it was exceptional, and the customer service at this location is beyond excellent in every aspect of the facility.Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean.The spa is not large and the restaurant in lower level is maybe being remodeled possibly? The food is excellent, but not a huge selection, nice selection at the full bar and a small starbucks selection as well. Overall, I would stay here again in a second, and the main reason is the customer service, friendly, timely, and efficient. We were very impressed with all of the employees on the facility. The resort & spa is a little on the expensive side, but worth every penny in my opinion. I am being a little picky here, but they get you on the valet parking a little bit as there is very little street parking, but the parking lot they do have is gated and the valets sprint to your car to go get them for you. They really run, it was impressive! So, yes, I may be downgrading a few minor things, but those will definitely not keep us from staying here again. We will be back!
If you stay here you better make sure you make enough money to cover the extra expenses and high prices for everything they offer. They force you to pay $40 a day extra to park your car. Plus the tips. They offer no other place to park. If you forgot something in the car you have wait for them to get it and yes another tip is expected. The double beds are also too small. I’m not sure why they don’t have queens like most hotels offer. The pool was great and the views are awesome. The room was clean and the staff was friendly.
The resort is beautiful near the water, and nearby restaurants. The staff were accommodating and friendly. The price of the hotel is pricey, you may find lower rates during the week vs. the weekend. Also, I was looking forward to a nice bubble bath, however not all the rooms have a tub. I chose a room with balcony and the view of the ocean. But otherwise my stay was amazing. If I go again it would need to be for a lower rate.
This location is superb.The bartender Michaels service is first class. I dont think he even knew the guest recovery he executed. Had it not been for him, we would have not stayed for dinner.Check in could have been smoother, but I am actually grateful it wasnt because we met Micahel. Room remodel is top notch but the walls are thin. Only reason for the 3 star for rooms.After a day at Disney, we returned back and went to Outer Reef after Michaels recommendations and it was the best service!Macay, Georgi, Jett! We will surely be back because of this team.Recommendations were on point.As a Luxury Hospitality Professional, I have never traveled to a resort where I felt, I would love to be apart of this team.Thos location did JUST THAT!I CANT WAIT TO BE BACK!
Im a Marriott Ambassador member and have stayed at hundreds of different Marriott hotels. Mr. Perkins is a fine general manager. He quickly assisted me with my large party and made the wedding this summer an amazing experience. I even accidently left items at the hotel and they had it waiting for me, ready to ship back to me. I believe this property is undergoing a refresh to a JW, the service level definitely fits that of a JW. The room was nice, comfy bed and clean. Theres not many food options on Property but plenty in walking distance. The hotel has amazing ocean views and is a nice quite place in Dana Point.
The Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa is a lovely place, the rooms are comfortable, and the restaurant staff is wonderful.The negative of this property is with the management and senior front desk personnel. Upon arrival, we asked for the sofa to be made into a bed for sleeping and we were told they would have this done within 10 minutes, but 2 1/2 hours later it was still neglected, and when we called, it took another 45 minutes for someone to come a make the bed.When we called and asked for towels in the room it again took an extended time to be delivered. The keys stopped working for the door and the desk told us they would send someone up to change the battery in the lock and this too took a long time.When I went by the front desk to complain, the Senior Front Desk Supervisor was extremely condescending toward me and uninterested in what I was saying. He had an O well attitude and when I asked to see the manager, he did come out, but he was obviously intimidated by the front desk supervisor and offered no solution or apology. In fact, both the manager and senior front desk gentlemen were condescending and unwilling to admit wrong.We heard and saw the same unprofessional actions toward several other guests in the hotel. The youthfulness, inexperience, and unprofessional contact of the management was unacceptable. Marriott is better than this!This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a Marriott property.
Our stay at this beautiful property was great. The only thing that was challenging were the tiny beds. I’m petite and my feet dangled off the bed! Everything else was great. The staff was courteous and the hotel has strong COVID protocols in place. they have great bonvoy status recognition. Also good food quality and cleanliness of the property are wonderful. Just please get at least full size beds in the 2 bed room category
Over 20 years ago, my husband and I had stayed at this hotel a couple times. I was glad to see it had been renovated. However, it is still overpriced. The staff wasnt as friendly as expected but after some struggle, I did receive a late checkout because of my Bonvoy status which I appreciated. The breakfast was very good and the staff in the restaurant was very accommodating.
This place is absolutely beautiful and staff is very kind and helpful. The reason I give it 3 stars is because the walls are paper thin, especially in the bathroom, I woke up to someone yelling at someone else in their own room which was unsettling for me to hear as well as disturbing, I heard everything while simply showering. Other than that it was great!
Second time at this resort, first time for Christmas and second time for my birthday 3 months later and Felicia was there again and remembered me and my partner. She gave us the most outstanding costumer service that I never had, Yolanda was amazing too, everyone at the front desk, valet, etc etc etc. 🥰👍
We stayed for one night to attend a dinner party in the area. Great hotel. Very clean and friendly staff everywhere. Super comfy bed and great ocean view. They have a nice pool area and provide bikes which you can use to bike to the near by harbor. The food at the restaurant is pretty good. Although I recommend different plates for the salad, because the silverware keeps sliding off. They have a nice outdoor patio with an amazing ocean view. Overall great and would recommend highly!
Very much enjoyed our stay. The resort is a bit isolated, but relatively convenient to the harbor - a short walk. Disappointed with the “ocean view” room. All of the balconies on the main floor have a 5’ high Wahl formed by the roof. The wall prevents any view, so we paid extra for 3 rooms with essentially no view unless you stood up or sat in the lifeguard style chairs. Very disappointed about how the room was represented.

Loved this place,Back in 2002, I lost a large mens Gold Wedding Band in the Mens room. Took it off to wash my hands and somehow left it on the counter top. When I realized it 20 minutes later I went back and the ring was gone. We asked everyone in the wedding party and the hotel but we never found it. It was my mothers gift to me from 1980. She found it in the rose garden back in Jersey.
Great place for a getaway. The staff members were so friendly, polite, and helpful. Thanks, Jacky, for the wonderful service! The continental breakfast at The Vue was simple, quick, and delicious. Loved the zucchini bread and those cuppuccino muffins were so yummy! And we also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The Omelet station and the smoked salmon bar was wonderful! Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable and we also loved relaxing on our patio each day. Thanks for making our vacation memorable!
Laguna Cliffs was the perfect getaway for me. The staff (valet, restaurants..etc) were all very professional and courteous. I was warmly greeted and upgraded per my titanium status. The location is perfect! Its located close to the beach, shopping and so much more. Valet was $40 a night, but they were very expeditious with bringing my vehicle out to me each time it was requested. My room was very clean and cozy, with an ocean view. The food/breakfast was great as well. I really enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking at the ocean. The workout room was really good as well. Great stay!! Thank you!
From the moment we arrive at the hotel we are welcomed and made to feel appreciated. The staff is outstanding and consistently go out of their way to be helpful. We love the wait staff, the food is Very good and the facilities wonderful. Fun for our grandkids with friendly and caring staff all around.
Every single staff person at the hotel was fantastic! Knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The room was lovely, the bed so comfortable and the property just beautiful. And the amenities are wonderful. We enjoyed biking, pickle ball and yoga. To top it off, the food in the restaurant is yummy. Just a great, all around relaxing getaway.
This place is an oasis. The pools are great, terrific food and drink, and fantastic proximity to the harbor (amazing views). But the best part about this place is the staff!! Everyone is so friendly and is proactively working to make sure you have a great time. I have been to MANY Marriotts and there are very few that have this level of service. Just amazing. The rooms are nice and the balconies great. We went for a couples getaway from our kids (thanks, Grandma!) and it was perfect for that but it really seemed to be a great place for all (i.e. couples, families, individuals traveling for work, etc). There were a lot of activities and a separate pool area with more kid-centric stuff. Poolside drink and food service was also great!!
The customer service was exceptional. Everyone working there was great. That was my favorite part of the resort.Only cons are the room size, being forced to use valet parking since there are no parking options.
Room was small, had no table, 1 chair. For the luxury effect, could have had better toilet paper. Couldnt find out info about breakfast, like a menu. On the tv.The pool was heated has a jacuzzi
Have stayed here in the past but perhaps due to Covid, hotel has really become cheap. My husband & I were staying here for at least the 10th time, celebrating my birthday. In the past during check in we have always received either a little drink voucher or fun treat if we came while celebrating an occasion, but during this trip, nada. For breakfast, we asked if it was a free continental or a menu and were told by staff its up for grabs for guests so we helped ourselves to a bit of scrambled eggs and sat outside, only to be slapped with a $70 bill 5 minutes later. On Sunday afternoon, we ordered lunch off the premises as I am a vegan and there were no appetizing food options at the hotel and ordered a bottle of wine from the hotel bar. When our food came, we sat on the balcony off the main lobby to take a quick bite before heading back to our room and although nobody was sitting on the deck, an employee quickly came to let us know the deck was only for paying guests. We informed her we ARE indeed hotel guests in room 2018 and literally just ordered a $63 bottle of wine from the bar to our room and just wanted to take a quick bite, and she said we could not sit until she spoke to her manager so we left. Overall VERY disappointing trip this time. Probably wont be spending our hard-earned money here or recommending in the future. As a Marriott member, truly disappointing.
Beautiful resort! Spectacular views! Several eateries within walking distance. We were there for a conference and the food was fabulous with excellent service. Looking forward to going back!
This is a beautiful place to stay with a lovely view of Dana point harbor. But you better bring lots of money. My room with one bed was $550 a night. Theres only valet parking available so that means anytime you want to go someplace you got to pay to get your car in and out. When I went one restaurant was closed and the other one is in a bar so I did need to leave quite often to get food. Its a great place so its up to you whether its worth the money or not.
This resort is a very professionally run, clean and beautiful. However, the hotels in the area offer free amenities this resort should consider because as beautiful and friendly as it is, we didnt feel like we received a banging experience for our buck! No free wifi in room, TV kept timing out accept on local channels, hairs found in shower before use, wasnt offered free buffet or drinks on the house. Things that could have made for a more pleasant experience.
I love this resort but Im so disappointed with the food quality. I stayed at that location primarily because I was able to attend the spa around my work schedule. The spa was amazing and service there was as well. The issue comes with the food quality. Ive stayed here before and it is possible that with Covid they may be between chefs. For the three days I was there between breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the food was very tasteless and really not enjoyable. They force you to get the brrakfast buffet when I really only wanted a couple eggs so I ended up paying $29 for two over medium eggs and paid also for my latte but I didnt complain about that. I chose to order room service the next day and it took over an hour to arrive which then caused me to miss the yoga class. I had to call them and when they finally brought it, it was incorrect and yet again tasteless and not enjoyable. Actually, for lunch the Caesar salad was great but the salmon & chicken, tasteless. Dinner - sub par ribeye & pasta had no taste. I felt bad for wasting so much food but it wasnt even worth the calories. We did not send anything back or complain- but we all agree we wont be going back there until things change. Fortunately the drinks were great!I expect so much more from the Marriott brand and Laguna Cliffs has done better in the past. Go to the Spa!!! It was fantastic and I had an exceptional experience. Everything including sauna & whirlpools are operating!!! HUGE thanks to Allison and her spa crew for the 5 star service, what I expected and more! Everyone in the spa that day all agreed the food was bad but the spa was great!
The hotel is beautiful 😍 and the service is amazing. They have servers at the pool for drinks and food. The chef cooks it fresh outside on the level above the pool so you could even watch him make you meal if you really wanted to.The beach is all the way down the BIG hill but worth the walk if you like beaches. The gym was very impressive in size and equipment. They have towels, water & a bathroom in there too.The gift shop when I was there was going through construction. Valets to help with luggage and parking. If you do park at the hotel the only parking is through the valet.Make sure to grab the Wagyu Sliders before you leave. The fries that come with it are also impressive so much so you dont need any type of sauce to dip them in! The lemonade tates fresh squeezed and NOT sweet as all.
We had a great vacation here! My sons are 4 and 5, they absolutely loved the pools! We brought our kids’ bikes and rented bikes for my husband and I. We rode around the grounds and the harbor, and had lunch off property. Will definitely stay here again!!
We stayed at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott resort in December and our stay was a very positive experience. The property is gorgeous and the views of the Dana Point Harbor are stunning. Our room was very comfortable and it was very clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and they catered to our every need. We considered staying at the Ritz but decided on the Marriott in Dana Point instead. That was the right decision. The Ritz was double the price of the Marriott and based on the terrific experience we had during our stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott, we will definitely stay here again.
The hotel is in good conditions. The rooms are large and comfortable. All the personnel was really attentive. Just remember they are a Marriott Resort so they don’t have to guarantee a late checkout to Platinums and above. I suggest you use one of the bikes they provide and explore the area.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights for our daughters wedding in nearby San Clemente, and it was wonderful! The staff was friendly and helpful (every single person, from check in to valet to restaurant staff and maid service). The resort is beautiful, and the patio restaurant was perfect, with gorgeous views, good food and drinks. Our group loved playing pickleball and bocce ball as well. I highly recommend staying here for a special event such as a wedding.
My husband and I are from SoCal but decided to have a low-key weekend getaway thats a short drive from home. We really like the updated room and bathroom as well as the cleanliness of the facility. All the staff were friendly and polite. We booked our room last minute and wasnt aware that the hotel was valet only for $39/day which was additional on top of the daily resort fee. With these additional fees it didnt feel like the rates for the room were as appealing as we initially thought. Other than that, we like the convenient location thats walkable to the beach and harbor as well as local restaurants/banks/markets. It was a nice environment overall. It was a little quieter than we expected but it was easy to drive up Hwy 1 towards Laguna and Newport Beach for more activities and shopping. We enjoyed our stay overall.
Very nice hotel. Staff is warm and friendly. Short walk to the beach, wonderful views.Our only complaint is the coffee cups in the room had old lipstick on them and 2 of the wash cloths had stains. Not a huge deal but for the cost of the rooms I felt that there would be more attention plaid to those details.
It is one of the rare hotels in Southern California where you can stay for a family vacation. It is a beautiful hotel with its proximity to the family action, calmness and comfort inside. It is a good alternative for guests coming from out of state, especially with its walking distance to the marina and 20-30 minutes close to many surf beaches spots. When you stay between the cities of San Diego and Los Angeles, it is nice that you can go to both cities at similar times. My advice is to have breakfast by enjoying the beautiful weather in the green area in front of you in the morning, there is the legendary open buffet breakfast. Especially the scrambled eggs and fresh coffee.
We had a wonderful stay at Laguna Cliffs Marriott. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The food was fantastic. The location is unbeatable. Some highlights were walking the marina, visiting the Lamplight district, yoga in the park (steps from the hotel), and enjoying the amazing scenery.
We were traveling to Dana Point for a night after spending the day at Doheny State Beach which is close by. The hotel was spacious, clean and had nice amenities. I wish we had checked in earlier to use all that was available with the paid resort fee. The room was clean, had a nice pool view with balcony. The area around was nice and we enjoyed a walk around the perimeter and had some nice photos taken of the marina. I would stay there again and would recommend. Location was key… close to Doheny, close to Pacific Coast HWY and close to lots of walkable areas
The hotel was beautiful, located next to the beach, nice bar patio area and pool deck with plenty of activities. Very crowded and always weddings happening on the weekends evidently, so beware. One thing that bugged me was the fact that they were short staffed, I mean given post covid everyone is short staffed, but this is a hotel, when you can’t even answer your room service calls and go from breakfast in room dining one day to no in room dining the next, kinda sucks, hire more people man, the pool bar servers were understaffed as well, took over 1 hour to get our food and they gave it to the wrong people. Dinner room service was over 1 hour late, kinda a problem when you have 3 kids and they want to sleep. Reminded me why I prefer to go to Mexico hotels with great customer service than local US hotels for getaways.
Nice facility and setting, clean and updated. Nice pools especially the adult pool which was not crowded. It is bit far away from the major activities so you do need a car. Nice areas to walk in the morning near the marina. Beaches in Dana point are good for water sports but not ideal for swimming and less crowds so we headed to Laguna which is about 20 min away. Drinks and food were a bit higher than typical.
This resort has always been a favorite spot since we moved from Laguna Niguel, but the newly remodeled property is exceptional. The rooms are beautiful and highly functional. I was in town for both business and pleasure and the property was perfect for all my needs. The food service and beverage was equally good. My wife and I give this Marriott resort a 10 for every important attribute of first class resort. ENJOY!
We went to this hotel for a business conference. Stayed overnight and the amenities, staff and everything was superb. I enjoyed the quote inside the closet . “The only good suit is a wetsuit” Also enjoyed watching the surfers while drinking my morning coffee. I highly recommend this hotel.
260 degree view of the harbor, bay, beach, ocean, and landscapes. We love it, valets are engaging and humorous. Staff very hospitable and warm. lattes on the upper deck were exceptional sitting outside or in. The food is excellent for breakfast or lunch and the rest. Our King room had plenty of space, superbly kept, and comfortable. Classy, comfortable, and unpretentious considering its quality and competitive stature in the market. We enjoy the local shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Great area to walk, exercise, do yoga or simply stretch. We observed a sea lion by the fishing boat and a seal in the bay barking for its unfound mate. The art show by the walkway caught our attention and interest in several pieces.
Lovely place however it’s also a non smoking grounds and our neighbor smoked like a freight train both nights. Made our balcony difficult to enjoy and our room smell. Management knew both nights about his smoking but I guess he had no fear of what ever the Consequences were if any were given to him. Besides that the grounds are beautiful and staff is great.
My family had a lovely time on our staycation. Everything was clean, and the staff was very catering and friendly! We enjoyed all amenities including the relaxing Spa! Will definitely recommended to others and cannot wait to visit again.
We love Laguna Cliffs. It is our favorite hotel and we always look forward to returning. When visiting our family in California we make it a point to be sure to stay there. We are always welcomed back and the staff is wonderful to us. The food is delicious and the wait staff fantastic. Looking forward to the restaurant downstairs opening up. Our only criticism is that the menu now is somewhat limited, since we eat there every day several times a year!
Laguna Cliffs Marriott is a beautiful resort with so much to do and see! We were only there for one nights see were there for the California Wine Festival across the street. I kept telling my husband that I wish we could have stayed longer! The employees were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was delicious! The room was comfortable and clean. The only thing that was not that great was that the shower head was not suited for us short people. Everything else was fantastic!
Shocked at poor service level of wait staff. Waited over an hour and minutes for dinner. When food came past my child’s bedtime, it was the wrong order. Waitstaff actively ignores you. Old discolored towels in bathroom. Bathroom grout could use a good scrubbing. Room service was also well over an hour. Actually had to google how long this property had been a part of the Marriott portfolio. Valet took forever as well. Only redeeming quality was that when the food did arrive, it was good. Bur definitely not worth over and hour’s wait each time. If you know you’re going to have increased census over the weekend, either staff up or don’t take reservations.
The Marriott Laguna Cliffs hotel never fails to amaze me. It is the one hotel I can always trust and rely on for all my business and leisure travel. From the cleanliness, safety protocols and measures in place, food and amenities - they never disappoint. The entire staff and team at the hotel know how to treat a guest and make them feel welcome and very comfortable during their stay at the hotel. This is also a very trusted hotel for meetings and events. The view is breathtaking and the events team are top notch!The newly renovated hotel rooms are stunning - they didnt miss a beat with the design and furniture. Only thing if you stay in one of the suites, wall outlets are minimal but just ask the hotel and they will accommodate.Now just looking forward to when they update the hotel spa with some fresh paint, carpet and furniture - then it will truly be a JW Marriott Hotel and Spa!Overall 5 + Stars!
I just finished a 2 night stay. No one big issue but many small issues snowballed into disappointment.Frustrations began when we checked in. They said they only had us for one night, so I had to pull up the reservation to show them that we had it for two. They then said they “upgraded” us to a pool view room, but that was what we booked so we had to pull up the reservation again and they then apologized and upgraded us to an ocean view room.We were disappointed upon arriving in the room as we had heard the resort was remodeled, but our room was already showing signs of age. The faux wood tiles were not adhered to the floor, there was mold in the shower, and the wallpaper was already peeling away. The toiletries in the room were light, only shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. No slippers, robes, or water.There are two pools and we decided to check the pool closest to our room. All the pool chairs were taken, but eventually a chair opened up and we sat down. We were disappointed to see they werent serving the normal pool menu and instead a simplified menu with just tacos and hotdogs because the kitchen was overwhelmed. The pool was too crowded and swarming with kids so we leftWe decided to stop at “The View” bar for some tea and water to bring us to the beach because the room had no water in it. The Starbucks was already closed at 11AM. We sat at the bar and after 15 minutes we left. The solo bartender didnt even acknowledge us during this time- overwhelmed pouring drinks for those on the patio and didnt have time to help anyone at the bar.This is when the frustration set in. The hotel was understaffed, and this was our 2nd problem with the F&B. We stopped at the front desk, and they called up Jeff, the director of F&B. He heard our concerns, apologized, grabbed us tea and water, and also offered to buy us drinks and appetizers at dinner time. He owned the situation and we had no further F&B issues. The Outer Reef dinner was actually amazing.Elite breakfast is simple, just fresh fruit, some pastries, coffee and tea, but really everyone was eating this. Downstairs there was a full breakfast buffet. $39, but for Elites its only $29. Food was adequate. There were scrambled eggs, potatoes, meat, biscuits and gravy, an extensive selection of fresh cut fruit, and an omelet station. For $20, it was worth it, but I wouldnt pay $39.We checked out the second pool that day. Again all chairs were taken by 11AM when we arrived according to the pool boy at the gate, but we peeked in, saw open seats, and asked if we could sit there and were told that would be ok. This pool was much better than the other pool. Very few kids, a DJ, fairly quick drink service. It would have been nice to see the no-kids policy be official at this pool as the other pool was so chaotic.I think our biggest frustration was our interactions regarding getting housekeeping. We heard from another guest that there was housekeeping only every three days, but we were told we could request it if needed. Around 2PM we were headed out to the beach and wanted housekeeping so we requested it in the Bonvoy app. We came back at 7PM to find out that the room hadnt been cleaned so we called the FD and they said they would send someone right up. We left for dinner, and came back to the room around 9:30/10PM only to find the room still not cleaned. We called the front desk to see what happened and Judy condescendingly told us that we should have known there is no housekeeping. We knew there was no housekeeping, but we requested it and they told us they would provide it.At this point I asked for the manager again, and spoke with Michael. I told him how frustrated I was, he called me a “lost cause” and nothing would please me. I had to correct him- fresh towels and a refill of shampoo would have pleased me. He sent up William, the head of housekeeping with some fresh towels. W was actually very friendly and helpful, he offered to change the sheets too.We checked out the next morning.
The property was very clean and nice but the service, food and amenities were lacking. Maybe it was because we stayed during the week, but at the pool, there was no place to put a used towel, so people left them on the chairs. In the 3 hours we were at the pool, no one came to collet the used towels. Also there was no beverage service at the pool even thought there is a beautiful outdoor kitchen. The room had 1 robe and the amenities were less than what you get at a Courtyard. Was not what I expected for the price and location.
The hotel was gorgeous but on my last night I had hot coffee poured all over my back. The staff kept telling me I was fine (I was not), gave me 2 ice packs and took my information. Luckily, I only got a small burn (size of a quarter) that took 2 weeks to heal. Mistakes happen but when someone is injured on your property you should try to make it right. My biggest issue was the staff took my information but never checked to make sure I was okay afterwards. I was very calm when all of this happened and even told the girl who poured the coffee it was okay, things happen. I guarantee if I had flipped out and threatened to sue they would have checked in. If someone had just called a week later to see how I was doing I would have given a 5 star review but the lack of caring was very frustrating. After reaching out to them a few times to give my feedback I was offered a free night if I ever come back to California (I live across the country).

Check in is a nightmare, room not ready. Rooms are ok but a standard Marriott at a way overpriced rate. Room leaking from ceiling lead to a midnight room swap didnt get much sleep. I will say though concierge is great and saved the day at getting us a ride last minute ( reason for 2 stars instead of 1) wont be coming back. Cheers
Not happy at all. The coastal view was of the harbor and a shopping area. Only if you stood on the balcony or sat in a worn high chair was the limited view of the coast visible, otherwise it was a solid wall. There were so few people there we could have easily been given a better room.I will say all the employees that we interacted with were very pleasant and helpful.
As we turned on the road to the Cliffs seeing the views and environment you feel instantly safe and excited to explore. As we pulled up and see that beautiful vintage woody waiting for us I knew this was a hotel with some style. Even though the construction was a bit of an eye sore I knew it had to be something to improve my future experience at this establishment. My spouse was instantly worried where our room would be. As we pulled up to the valet we were greeted with smiles and a hand shake. They helped us get out luggage out and even though we spaced the tip they treated us as if we were big tippers. (we went back and remedied that later). Walking into the Cliffs it’s beautiful. When it was our turn to check in, I really wish I remember the name of the young man that checked us in. It really did set the mood for myself and my wife making sure we got the room we wanted away from the construction views on the floor we wanted. The hotel is nicely kept and I loved the complimentary hot apple cider (I loved it every time I walked by). The property was beautiful inside and out. The attendant manning the the little store was great no matter who was in there. The rooms were very nice and spacious. My spouse and I started thinking about how this would be a great venue for our company to hold a small convention. I can’t say enough. All aspects of our stay was great. Thank you to the staff and the Cliffs which made our stay enjoyable.
Beautiful Resort and Spa! The rooms either overlook the ocean or the pools. The grounds are very well kept and a nice walking path surrounded the property. Would definitely return! The staff are very nice and Valay staff are always willing to help! Might skip the breakfast buffet, the waffle squares were on the cold and hard side.
Food, service, and location was 5 stars except coffee. Was disappointed that hotel served Starbucks coffee instead of other gourmet coffee at 5 star hotel.
We stayed for our wedding night/weekend. Upon arriving & checking in after midnight on our wedding night, we were told they “upgraded our room to a very nice pool view on the first floor”. Once settled into our room, we were exhausted & look forwarded to a much needed night’s rest. After being asleep for only a couple of hours before morning, we were awoken by screaming kids at the pool, loud children running up & down the halls, noisy guests leaving in the room above us & then housekeeping knocking loudly on doors yelling, “Housekeeping” over & over. Once we were up, we looked out the window only to see our “upgraded” pool view was looking at the back side of the pool bar & pool equipment, nice upgrade! When my husband went to speak to the front desk manager about the noise and changing rooms for our 2nd & final night there, she proceeded to give him one excuse after another. She said, “We’re a family resort, there are kids staying here. We have a children’s birthday party at the pool today. We had a large party come in and take all our ocean view rooms.” Etc... Hotel management 101: the guest is always right! A good manager doesn’t make excuses, they make the guest happy! After much back and forth with my husband, she finally offered us a “partial ocean view” room on the top floor. That room was much quieter and we finally got some much needed rest. This resort just finished a big renovation & remodeling project but they surely didn’t do much to soundproof the rooms. You can hear every person going by in the halls and in the rooms next to you & above you! We’ve had much nicer stays at lower rated hotels that were way less expensive than here. It definitely put a damper on what should’ve been an awesome mini moon as newlyweds. On a positive note, the bell staff and valet attendants were very helpful & accommodating.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort and Spa. Super friendly and helpful staff showed us a couple of rooms allowing us to choose. Beautiful room, super clean, up-to-date style, good bathroom ... really a fab experience. Only downside is the food situation - they need more restaurant options.
I would gave 0 star if I can. Hotel is in great location! But both me and my husband didn’t feel welcome. We were just there for one day relaxation stay cause of covid situation and we didn’t want to travel. Decided to stay nearby beach and date at there for a night. Got a noise complaint during night time just cause we were talking over the phone with family when all windows and doors were closed! I didn’t feel safe after received a call. How 4 star Hotel’s walls are not sound proof just for phone conversation. We are not partying or listening music. Cause of valet parking we were asking reception how to get the car back. He didn’t seem patient and point us to concierge. Actually the valet counter is outside. I will never go back there 👎👎👎
I love this hotel! It is spacious, clean and perfect size. Our room was beautiful, we stayed in a room with the balcony opening to the pool. The staff was friendly, extremely helpful and professional. We were able to check in early and check out late due to the fact that the hotel was not that crowded during the weekend we were there. We didnt eat there or use the spa on this trip. I have to commend management as we were very expressed with the staff, valet and front office. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. We were close to everything in town and a 15-20 minutes from Laguna Beach. There are tons of great restaurants close by the harbor was close enough to walk if you wanted. We will definitely stay again. It felt like we were staying with family as the staff were so WONDERFUL!!
The room was well laid out. A little on the small side but was not feeling crowded. Their team is excellent. Valet did get a little overwhelmed with a special event. I got my car well after others who turned in their ticket after I. Not sure what the delay was but they were very nice.
Based on my stay this trip I may not return. The front desk staff was excellent as were the Valets. The location is amazing as are the amenities. These things made for great stay.However, the hot water was luke warm at best so I had to go to the gym to shower. And unfortunately the restaurant service was absolutely terrible. I waited for 15 mins while I watched every other table being service before I went to the bar to get my own menu and on the way back to my outside table someone finally stopped, mid-walk back to the table, to take my order. Yes I was walking and standing up and had gotten my own menu before I got to order...not good. Did I mention that at least 3 people passed me while I was standing at the bar not helping me...a little direction would be good. I will definitely never eat there again.
Hotel is first rate! Excellent experience from the moment we arrived until the last minute of our departure. Every staff we encountered was very courteous and polite, not once we had bad experience. The hotel is very well kept, our room is immaculate. The front desk manager even handed plush stuffed animals to my kids the moment we stepped into the lobby. I couldn’t ask for a better stay or experience.
AVOID THIS HOTEL FOR EVENTS OR LARGE MEETINGS!This hotel cancelled my group meeting (over 20 people) on 2 week notice. They did this because another group at the hotel added more attendees on late notice. We had a contract & room list submitted a month in advance of our stay. This sudden change resulted in our group scrambling for another location, incurring flight change charges, & lost deposits on restaurant reservations. We incurred THOUSANDS in extra charges due to them cancelling on us.Pass on this hotel. Look for another resort that operates with integrity to host your event!
Even at the start of check in staff were not pleasant which carried over upon checkout. The valets were great and friendly as were the bartenders. Location is great. Food at hotel and spa hot tub/sauna was as if you’re at a YMCA.
Very kind and professional staff. Valet service was great. We arrived Saturday night and enjoyed the pool on Sunday, not crowded at all and great pool staff. Unfortunately we had more negative experiences than we wouldve ever expected from a Marriott property. Our lunch order took 45 minutes. Even though our waiter apologized, we werent given a discount or comp. When the food arrived, it definitely wasnt worth the $18. Then our room didnt get cleaned for two days which wouldnt have been so bad except the shower only has 1/2 shower door so we had to use extra towels to dry up the puddles so we had a pile of soppy towels and ran out of them too. We requested more towels and coffee when our room didnt get cleaned, but only received the towels. When we finally did receive a room cleaning, a dirty coffee mug and glass were left, the bed wasnt made, there was a puddle in the bathroom, and the maid service cleaning rag was left on the desk. Also a pasta dish from the restaurant had very undercooked pasta but again when we mentioned it, no discount or comp provided. Finally addressed the concerns with the front desk manager and received $100 off our overall $1500 bill...meh.
This place exceeded expectations on every level. Fantastic customer service. The grounds are beautiful, my massage with Sarah was amazing, and the rooms were clean spacious and comfortable. Great location for a weekend getaway. The only issue was the hotel drums/pool music was right outside our room and very annoying. If you dont like weird drums music, ask to see how close your room is to the pool. Great view though!
For a resort and spa it was not very relaxing to be around the pool. It is nice to provide activities but immediately outside our window was a ping pong table which led to families and kids looking inside. When we booked our room it was shown to have a couch and sitting area however that did not exist in my room so there was not a place for two people to sit while inside (despite advertising that). Overall feels a little disingenuous as a location.
We celebrated our 28th anniversary at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. It was a great stay and experience. Highly recommend the rooms facing the ocean as you can see the beauty of the ocean when you wake up & hear the waves at night. All the staff were extremely friendly and the place is really organized and well kept. It is in a great location to many places to visit north and south of the hotel.
This hotel was very clean and the entire staff is so friendly. The guys who valet your car were amazing and fun. We would stay here again for sure!! Will recommend to friends and family. Great water views, amazing walking paths, gorgeous park and located next to a lot of shops and restaurants. 10 out of 10.
This Marriott was great for our short stay! The interior design was up to date. The check in process was smooth and quick with the front desk. The room was nicely updated and the bathroom has nice finishes. The valet guys were also attentive to us when we walked out waiting for our Uber ride. The service at the coffee bar was also quick and convenient. Most importantly, the grounds and view were so beautiful!!
Lovely setting and views. Food needs to be healthier and higher quality. Beds were so comfy and room so clean and lovely! Nice to have bikes, boogie boards and beach towels available. Friendly and professional staff! Make sure you call and get the room type you want. I made the reservation on line and thought I was getting one room as a king and they both ended up as double doubles and the hotel was sold out! But overall very beautiful setting, good location and good staff!
We have discovered that many travelers to this area are unaware of this wonderfully located property. The rooms are modern, updated and comfortable, many with balconies and views of the water. The staff is top notch. Elite recognition is excellent. We are looking forward to the new restaurant opening. Highly recommend.
Id never thought I would say I had to rough it at a four star hotel, but thats exactly how I felt. The hotel has all the bravado of being a Marriott with nicely appointed rooms and great staff, but these so called cost saving measures the hotel has gone out of control. It dampened my experience.My flight came in late and I wanted to be in a warm room. Turns out the temp control cant be changed without a worker changing it. I was exhausted and the room was so cold even after I turned the system off, that I had to sleep with a jacket on. The next day we asked for the room temperature to be turned up. And they did-two degrees more. They give you exactly two free bottles of water for the whole stay, which is absolutely ridiculous. If the convenience shop was in business, I wouldve gladly bought waters from there. On my last night, I decided I was tired of being cold and wanted to take a hot shower. Turns out, the temperature of the water doesnt even get that hot. I am so disappointed and cant wait to go home.
From the moment we got out of the car it was a positive and friendly feel. Check in went as smooth as it can. We opened are room door and was blown away to see the newly remodeled room. Room was very clean and bath shower was a amazing tile walk in with rain shower head. Moving on to the indoor/outdoor bar, pool, and restaurants we were greeted by a amazing staff that never said no and always took care of what ever needs you had. Over all we have stayed at a lot of hotels for vacation and work and this hotel gets a 10 in my book. Thanks to the hole staff for making it a amazing stay.
The resort is very pricey, but worth it. The grounds are beautiful. The locations is fantastic being only steps away from lovely parks and the beach. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious and spotless. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. The on-site restaurants and other amenities are top notch. My only complaint is due to the way the resort is built, some of the balconies, like the one I had have are uncomfortably tiny and have a very high wall that necessitates having to sit in a very tall chair that was crammed into a corner. If you want to enjoy a balcony (which I believe cost more), do not stay in the Del Mar wing. If not for the balcony my rating would be Excellent instead of good. Otherwise, the stay was wonderful.
Start with the good, the resort looks very nice, newly decorated or renovated. The valet service was excellent. They were friendly, hustled and were very courteous. However not much else went well... Foodservice and quality of the food was terrible, our room was never cleaned, dirty water glasses and coffee mugs in the room. Shower flooded the bathroom floor due to unique doorless design and we used our towels to mop the floor and had to ask multiple times each day for clean towels. Complaints to waitstaff, maids, and management were not addressed. Ive had better service at hotels a third the cost. The view and a modern designed hotel is the only thing you are paying for. Bring your own sheets, towels, drinking glasses and coffee mugs if you stay here.

We have stayed at this Marriott before and I dont remember the overall experience being quite so good. My two children( 6 and 8 yrs) and I took my wife for a night for her birthday as a surprise. After driving in the terrible LA traffic, we arrived to be greeted by Aldo in reception who made sure we had a from to accommodate all four of us, that was over by the kids pool. We got an early check in and then right to playtime. My wife got a massage, which she says was amazing and my kids got to swim all day, order piña coladas NO alcohol -their favorite-and we relaxed. Really relaxed. The pool staff was attentive and fast, the pool was heated and the grounds were well maintained. It helped that the weather was also perfect.We slept in on Sunday (tried to anyway with two little early risers that couldnt wait to get back in the pool) had a fantastic breakfast (Kyle the waiter was great), my wife got her fresh pineapple juice, kids loved the chocolate chip pancakes and the corn flake French toast was better than it sounded. We stayed on the grounds all day for more of the same pool time and relaxation. It was worth it.For an older hotel, Marriott has maintained this hotel really well. We had a great experience.
Just a great place overall with excellent service, pools, service, and proximity to beaches and the harbor. My family loves this place and its one of our favorite stay-cation sites, less than 2 hours from our house. The rooms are not the largest but they are well laid out and many have an excellent view of the ocean and one of the two swimming pools. The staff is all top notch and helpful also. The place is family friendly but for a couples weekend it is also very comfortable and close to very nice restaurants. Dana Point in general is underrated and also a fun place to visit, the local public trolley makes it easy to get around, and lots of bike lanes and places to walk.
Love the Cliffs, always have, reminds me of the Coronado in San Diego. Lots of character. The rooms have recently been renovated! Got to love Marriott they always keep their properties up to date! Love the laminate flooring! So clean. The property views are so awesome! The property is in a busy area (it is a bit congested going up the hill to the property), mainly because of public access to the beach, other than that the property itself is nice and well maintained, staff is friendly and helpful from the bell staff to the front desk! Excellent location, close to shopping, restaurants and beaches. You can’t go wrong! It can be a bit pricey during the summer months although you can get great rates during winter or spring. If you are traveling for business, one downside, no club lounge.
Amazing property, clean rooms, and a wonderful complementary upgrade. I was highly impressed! The pools are great also. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommend this hotel for a Dana Point escape for two!
Beautiful resort. Staff was very friendly and professional. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We strayed here while attending the Ohana Festival. If you are planning the same be aware you will have to climb a very steep hill to get back to the hotel after the show is over.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay as a family. The pool is amazing - with a full pool, heated pool, kiddie pool and splash one. Great fun for kiddo. Lots of fun things for the family including open lawns, yoga sessions, putting zone. The service was top class, across the board. Spa service was top notch and probably a highlight of the stay - highly recommended. I would not recommend either restaurant at the property, but there are reasonable restaurants within walking distance from the resort. Highly recommended for the quality of the property and the genuinely friendly staff!

As a Southern California native, I am quite familiar with most coast hotels but had never stayed at Marriott Laguna Cliffs. I was pleased overall with my five day stay. The hotel overall has been renovated and the public areas are fantastic. The restaurants and their views are amazing. The layout of the main foyer is stylish and reminded me of a four-star Hawaiian hotel. Staff was polite, eager to please and prompt. Housekeeping was fine, though our room was passed over for cleaning one day. Valet parking works well, and the parking staff was great. Front desk was responsive always. Location of the resort is its best feature, with breathtaking views, lotsa restaurants nearby and quite convenient to freeway and main streets. Room was quiet, clean, updated and with a generous TV menu. Overall, this resort is a great choice for the area.
The picture on the website showed a partial ocean view room with a balcony. Instead they gave me a room with small windows that I needed to stand on a chair to see the ocean. There was no indication on the website that I need to ask for balcony. This is a wrong advertisement to attract customers. This was one of the worst experiences that I had with Marriott hotel.
Booked a pool-view room to celebrate my friend’s birthday. It was a lovely stay! Cute and cozy room overlooking the pool. Big screen TV connected to apps like Netflix and Hulu was convenient. Valet parking was great and it was nice being able to call down from the room to have them get the car before we even were downstairs. All staff was helpful and friendly. Would stay there again!
Service was incredible. LuLu was awesome upon checkout. She explained our bill and answered all our question. The valet attendants were awesome. The waitress at the buffet, Anastasia was awesome. The pool and jacuzzi were nice and clean the room we had was very clean and had no weird smells. The AC was positioned perfectly. It blew away from the bed circulating the air around the room rather than on top of us. This creates a temperature in the room that was perfect. It didn’t dry us out. Asked for 5 extra pillows and they were delivered right away. Outstanding service and the buffet had delicious and fresh food, an omelette chef, and fresh coffee. The value for the money was very reasonable, which is not always the case at other hotels. The $60 Buffett and $15 dollar internet was built into the cost of the stay, which was around $250 - well worth a Mother’s Day getaway.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly, and given information about the resort and its amenities. The room was very nice, the bathroom nice and very clean and the view was beautiful. The service at the pool and the quality of the food more than exceeded my expectations. The beds and pillows are so comfortable! I highly recommend this particular resort and will definitely be back!
The hotel is designed for a hot summer day - but in December it was wet, cold & sterile. We couldn’t use the amenities- everything rained-out. The lobby / restaurant/bar was open, just not warm, hospitable fun like we hoped. It’s nice, but not what we were looking for.
With beautiful ocean and harbor views this property is absolutely one of the best coastal Resorts in Southern California! The newly renovated rooms have hardwood floors and rain showers that make you feel comfortable and relaxed. The overvue lounge and deck restaurant has great views with hand crafted cocktails and delicious food. All staff at this property were unbelievably helpful and courteous!
I am usually pretty picky about where I stay and dont usually give any reviews. I will in this case because everything my wife and I encountered were amazing! It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we have stayed at a hotel every year as well as travel for my daughters volleyball tournaments. This was by far the best experience at a Marriott hotel as well as your competition. The staff were so accommodating, friendly and very helpful with every aspect of the entire trip. The location was great because I surfed everyday at Doheney and stored my surfboard at the hotel. We will go back to this property and tell everyone what an awesome experience we had! Loved it!
The location is good. The room is spacious but services are poor and the design of the shower area is not so good.We stay for total 4 nights, 5 days.But there was a cleaning service only once on our 4th day! 😒Actually, on 2nd day we asked front desk to send someone to do the cleaning and she said yes.But no one came.When checked out, we complained about the issue, then the reception told us that they only provided the cleaning after your 3rd night !!!This information was not brought up during check-in nor when we ask for the cleaning on the 2nd day.The reason given was due to Covid which is not making any sense. We are staying at Marriot not 1 or 2 star hotel.We expected better management from Marriot. Other small hotels do provide daily services.Or at least the information should be provided prior to our stay.No cleaning service for 3 consecutive nights mean there is no refill of coffee, soap nor replacement of towels. 😣On the shower, there is no curtain/door this water is easily leaked out from the shower area.Moreover, the shower drain was clogged!!
A lovely hotel on a hill. Check in staff was very friendly and helpful.The new remodel is beautiful and fresh. It would be nice if the property had a self park option. The resort fee is also not applicable to most hotel guest and feels as if its another way to make money for the hotel. Other then those two negative point we enjoyed our brief stay.
We loved this hotel. The staff was so accommodating and always patience with any request. The valet gentlemen were always upbeat and helpful with directions. The room was very clean and cozy. The staff was outstanding the location was wonderful. There was a festive feeling with all the parties and action. The music was wonderful at the bar. I will return soon.
This resort was wonderful. Beautiful area. Clean facility and super friendly and helpful staff, particularly Ellie A who made sure we were all set before we arrived. Pool was warm and food was delicious. My daughter loves that she could use a surfboard to try out the waves at the beach nearby.
This resort blew our expectations of resort service out of the water. All around the staff was professional, prompt and kind! The resort is immaculate and has picture perfect views. The service is the same you would receive at the Ritz! If you have the opportunity to stay here, it will become one of the best vacations you’ve ever had!
This is a beautiful hotel, surrounded by breathtaking views of the ocean and green space. Several walking/jogging paths. The grounds are pristine and the service was wonderful. Every person from the valet to front desk check in to the pool staff was professional and friendly. The rooms were spacious and newly updated. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer.
This hotel is so beautiful. It’s waking distance from the beach and several restaurants, there are several amenities in property including a restaurant and bar, spa, gym, shopping center, miniature golf, two pool and jacuzzis, each pool had a bar station for serving drinks and food, conference center with several rooms and two open lawn for outdoor events.
Had a fantastic stay-cation here with my boyfriend. Chris at the bar took great care of us and really made our night. Looking forward to coming back!
One of the best Marriott experiences ever. Resort is located in a beautiful location, nicely remodeled, very clean and staff were very approachable and attentive. All staff from our valet, front desk, bar staff and housekeeping appeared genuine about meeting our needs and making our stay as pleasurable as possible.
Great pool, great food, beautiful updated rooms, balcony was so nice to have! We used the free bicycles and surf boards. It was a very nice property to stay at with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. We all enjoyed every moment of our time here! Thank you for the swift assistance when we had a small medical emergency. The loss prevention team was above and beyond when it came to customer satisfaction.
I called the front desk to ask how they would be handling occupancy and staff before we arrived. I was assured that they only staffed based on occupancy so that they could provide the best service possible. The staff exceeded our expectations and the service was consistently excellent no matter who we spoke to. We will definitely be back!!!Loved the newly renovated rooms, very nice and clean!
Loved the opportunity to stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. It was a weekend get away with my daughter and her 1 year old baby. From the start, we were warmly welcomed and even unexpectedly upgraded to a beautiful room with a fabulous view and an adjoining suite. It was perfect for us.The kid area pool was so fun and had me wishing we had all of the grandkids. Staff was super friendly throughout the place and I look forward VERY MUCH to returning. Also, the location is fabulous. Dana Point is so pretty.
Definitely one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed at. The location is wonderful overlooking the beaches. The staff is very polite and cater to your needs. The rooms and buildings were very clean. The only downfall was the large amount of children that seem to run wild....but that would be a problem with the guests more so. We will be returning often! Thanks for a great weekend with the family Marriott!
Beautiful hotel but extremely poor service. My fiancé and myself went there to look at wedding venues. She had a dog in a pet carrier and on a stroller. The manager came up and was very short and said we needed to leave the property immediately. My fiancé was recently there and had no issues with our chihuahua. The manager asked us to call the wedding planner and basically questioned why we were even there.For how much you spend on a wedding and for the quality of the resort, this level of service is completely unacceptable.
Called their Spa and the lady sounded drunk… or sleepy and as if she didn’t care about the customer on the line. She sounded lazy and barely pronounced anything. Like she couldn’t be bothered to answer my questions. Did give me options, I had to squeeze information out of her. I’ll just go to Montage instead. It’s $80 more for a treatment but I think it will be worth it. They sounded happy to have me there
I called the hotel twice early (around 8:30 am) in the day of arrival (8/9/19) to advise them that I would like to check in a bit early at 2:00 pm instead of 4:00 pm due to a long travel day and an early dinner engagement. I specifically indicated that I would very much appreciate it if the room could be ready for 2:00 pm check in. I arrived at the hotel at about 2:50 pm (almost an hour past). Upon checking in, I was informed that the room was not ready. I suggested perhaps another room as I had a dinner engagement to go to and needed to get ready. The hotel staff was very rude and simply indicated that even though I called in earlier and I requested early check in, it was not guaranteed and there was nothing they could do about it. As a long time Marriott member (and a vacation club owner), I indicated that I am aware of the policy and understand it. I suggested that perhaps they could provide a room (any room) or a space for only 20 minutes to take a shower, change clothes, and refresh from a long travel day. They simply stated that there was nothing available. I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed in the presence of my business associate. Ive been a loyal Marriott member for over 15+ years (and a vacation club owner for about 10 years) and Ive always been happy with the service. Even under more difficult circumstances in past stays, the staff had always been understanding, accommodating, and professional but certainly not this time at the Dana Point Laguna Cliffs resort. VERY DISPPOINTED AND THE SERVICE DOES NOT MEASURE UP. VERY EMBARASSING IN FRONT OF MY BUSINESS ASSOCIATES!
The hotel was excellent, the staff wonderful. This is the perfect hotel for relaxing and getting away from the rigors of life. The views are incredible and the rooms are comfortable. The valet parking is reasonable and the resort fees are well worth it. We didnt have an opportunity to utilize the spa or fitness center, but I hope to remedy that! The Boutique was closed, however, when we called they came and opened the shop just for us, it was great! The restaurant makes so you dont even have to leave the hotel. I definitely will be coming back again. Hopefully sooner than later!

My boyfriend and I stayed here during a weekend long concert. The location was perfect, our room was amazing (and very spacious) and the service was excellent! I wish we had stayed longer because it was so beautiful! It was an easy walk down the street to the beach and to nearby restaurants. The pool was well taken care of, just like the rest of the grounds. I could not get over the view from our hotel room! I highly recommend staying here for a relaxing weekend/week!
Went for my wife’s birthday, staff is great this is not a knock on them. The hotel location is gorgeous, the rooms are basically I nice Holiday Inn, we paid for the best most expensive room and it was still very tiny. Walls are paper thin, the couple next to us were talking and we could hear every word so we asked to move to another room. They were happy to do so no issue there. Still paper thin walls. The shower at the room we were in was insanely small, and there was no door so all of the water was all over the place after a shower. We stayed out late, till around 2am celebrating her birthday expecting to sleep in and wake super late…at 6AM they decide to run a fire drill…6 IN THE MORNING ON A SUNDAY!!??? Needless to say we couldn’t go back to sleep after that. We left early and never plan to stay there again.
Great last minute staycation decision. You could ask for a better property with a ton of options to enjoy all its wonder and the wonder of the charming beach community it is a part of. My boyfriend and I went as a last minute and well needed get away. It was everything in more. We spent a lot of time in the jacuzzi which thankfully stayed open later than other hotels, was clean, quiet, and just nicely situated. We definitely would love to come back soon! Tons of amenities offered too! I highly recommend!
The Laguna Cliffs Marriot Resort and Spa is a nice spot for couples and families. The view is beautiful, from the pool area, rooms, and the restaurant. The servers in the restaurant provided great table service. The food was very good. We even watched a wedding happen during our dinner. It was a wonderful event. The rooms are nice but a little weathered. Our experience in the Spa was absolutely wonderful. The spa staff was welcoming and very attentive. It was a great place to get pampered. The front desk staff at check in did not seem organized. Unfortunately, I had to correct overcharges on my bill and ask for our extras that were in our room package. The bad thing is, if you dont ask for what you paid for, you probably wont get it. The front desk overlooked everything. However, I made sure we received everything our package offered (chocolate covered strawberries with champagne, breakfast for two voucher, and free valet). It was a great deal, but you have to make sure you get it when the front desk doesnt follow up. Finally, valet is convenient, but you may have to wait when the valet staff are busy talking and not attending to departing guests.
The hotel is on the hill overlooking the entire Dana Point Harbar, the view is very good! Especially the restaurant has an invincible sea view, very beautiful! Room is small.
Lovely, classically designed resort hotel adjacent to the Lantern Bay Park, overlooking the Bay and ocean. Full service spa, 24 hour fitness center. Was there for a meeting. Food was excellent. Wife had a great facial and enjoyed yoga with a group that meets in the park every morning. Room was spacious and comfortable, service excellent aside from a flub with our luggage Well be back.
The hotel property is beautiful. Woman at the front desk was very professional and friendly. She gave me a beautiful upgraded room with a great view of the harbor. Had drinks at the bar and it was a great embiance. Had meetings here and wasnt thrilled about the meeting space. We were a small group of about 15 people and they put us next to a very large group. The other group was so loud we had to ask to be moved because the noise carried so much from the other group.
Hotel is first rate! Excellent experience from the moment we arrived until the last minute of our departure. Every staff we encountered was very courteous and polite, not once we had bad experience. The hotel is very well kept, our room is immaculate. The front desk manager even handed plush stuffed animals to my kids the moment we stepped into the lobby. I couldn’t ask for a better stay or experience.
First let me start off by saying that you have a beautiful property. The grounds are well maintained. Customer Service in both restaurants was great as the Valet service was fast and friendly.Customer Service:-front desk was rude when i called to request we have adjoining rooms. We are a family of 5 and wanted to be together but wanted the extra space I didnt have my confirmation number on me when I called and the front desk clerk,told me that it was inconvenient, or something similar to that.-Check in, I asked if the rooms were adjoining and if we were on the same floor as our friends that we were traveling with and sarcastically the front desk clerk said that I asked for a lot.Quality of Room:We stayed in rooms 101 and 102. I would encourage someone from the corporate office to try to sleep in room 101. In case you are not aware this room shares a wall with the elevator. The walls are paper thin and I heard every time the elevator went up and down. Not to mention every conversation that was spoken outside of the elevator. I did not report anything of this to the front desk because I was already told that I asked for a lot.Recommended:Safe in room.
This property is perfect for family traveling with kids. I have a 12 year old, a 6 year old and a 1 year old and all three really enjoy the amenities this property offers. The hotel has a lot of green area for kids to run and play. The pool is not too big but it has a water play area for the kids, which my kids enjoyed very much. The mini golf area right on the cliff is also great. The hospitality room has many table games, ping pong table, and even free cookies! I will definitely return.
We wanted to get away for Labor Day but did not want to spend too much time getting there or deal with huge crowds. The Laguna Cliffs Marriott provided exactly that. The drive was easy (we live in North OC) and the hotel and staff were fantastic. The location allows for easy access to the harbor and beach with lots to do - paddleboard, bikes, restaurants. This allowed us to escape for a couple of days - avoid stress of long commute home - and feel recharged. The OverVue restaurant/bar area provides good food and drink with fantastic views. The two pools provide the ability to enjoy a more quite experience or take in all the extras. The staff is amazing and they all had a positive attitude and smile on their face as they worked hard to take care of guests.Definately will be back soon!
Entire experience felt safe and clean. Rooms were well furnished and cleaned well. Dining service left much to be desired as well as menu options. Kids splash area, kids game room, movie night and snacks were the highlights.
Pros: location, view. Not much people during our stay. Customer relations is excellent. It felt like an exclusive stay. They also gave a complimentary treat for the birthday we were celebrating together with a personal handwritten card. Negative experience: On check in I requested a top level room. I was given a room in the second floor. The view was still nice but not what I requested. Old structure: while considerable amount was spent on renovation you can still feel the structure is old. The AC systemis very load when it turns on and off. Our room had plumbing issues, it was leaking under the sink and collected a puddle under the sink soaking all towels and my daughter slipped while entering the bathroom luckily I was there very close to catch her. We were told it will take two hours to fix so we decided to head out for a while. When we came back the bathroom was completely gutted. we were asked to transfer to another room. gathering our stuff around the work area was no fun. They transferred us in a rush. Not copying our original reservation. tiny room where our stroller did not fit and had no sofa bed. Had a tiny balcony. We voiced our concern and we were transferred yet another time. This time to a way larger room but did not have the coastal view we paid for. We were given a discounted rate but theres a reason why I booked a coastal view in the first place I was not concerned about the price. We were in for the experience. But I just let it be, nothing could be worse moving twice in the same day anyway. we just wanted to rest. Manager also offered a late checkout which we gladly accepted. On that night the thermostat is stuck at 70F. I had kids who cannot be awakened so calling front desk and having guys check out the room was not an option. I just opened the door but it was too cold outside. On the day of checkout while we were enjoying the late checkout privilege. The alarm system tripped which aggravated our already exhausted children who were napping at that time. At that point we just wanted to leave the resort. Valet parking. While I understand the nature of luxury resorts given the pandemic I would have rather have the option to self park. My car was taken out ahead of time by mistake. My windows were left open and the inside was smelling like smoke (from other cars in the loading area)

2023-10-29 01:26:42This resort sits atop a large and well-maintained grassy hill overlooking the Dana Point Harbor. The grounds are large and contain multiple pools, hot tubs, event venues, and several restaurants. The gym is spacious and well-stocked and is usually empty.Valet parking is around $45 per night, and there is no self parking, but for stops under 4hrs you can street park by the park on the road leading up to the hotel.The rooms were acceptable and clean. The views are pretty nice - we paid for a partial coastal view room and the view was beautiful, especially as the sun set.The hotel lounge, called OverVue, is excellent! Their menu is a Hawaiian/Californian fusion with pan-Asian influences. Since we had the CA resident deal, we had resort credits which fully covered several hotel meals here. It’s a very fun restaurant and the creative menu really impressed me!Overall, my stay here was great and I would come back or recommend others to check this place out!

2023-12-06 23:59:33A perfectly average hotel. Looks great from the outside, but once in, there’s very little to it. Maybe because I had a room facing a housing estate, and a noisy air conditioning unit. It’s simply a place to sleep. Breakfast was just awful.

2023-10-12 18:43:20The service at this hotel was really disappointing. The staff was rude and unhelpful, and it felt less like a resort and more like what you’d get at a motel. While the view was lovely, the parking is overpriced and the rooms are dated. The AC unit in our room made noises all night and shut off at random times, making the room extremely hot in the middle of the night. The breakfast is also pretty sad. $20 for continental breakfast that consists of about 3 options (all packaged). Overall, It’s not a bad hotel, just not worth the price. I’d recommend staying somewhere else if you want the “resort” feeling.

2023-11-02 14:31:49Everything was fine, nothing spectacular to justify the cost. Mandatory parking fees and resort fees added an additional ~25% to your nightly rate seem outrageous. Rooms were fine, but dated with poor views. I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

2023-09-27 18:02:53Extremely poor service by the hotel staff and management, especially for a Bonvoy Gold member! Their accounting department is absolutely incompetent and rude. We were attending a medical conference at this hotel and everyone in my group experienced the same lack of proper accounting from the hotel. The management failed to step in and resolve the accounting issues. The hotel’s location is great, and its grounds are beautiful, but the lack of customer service is so overwhelming that I would never stay at this hotel or recommend it to anyone. The breakfasts provided to our medical group were quite disappointing and the shortage of staff was very obvious. They ran out of coffee, tea, fruits, juice, and almost everything else in their breakfast selections, but no one was there to refill. Their hot breakfast items were cold and not edible. A few people in my group got food poisoning at this hotel. I think for the price this hotel charges, there are much better choices in the area.

2023-09-24 18:17:58Update: I wanted to update this 3 - star review to a 4- star, as the general manager’s executive assistant stepped in and made sure that I received a complementary free stay comparable to our last accommodations l! It was a fair deal and greatly appreciated! I would give this hotel a 5-star, if they could ever fix the front-desk staffs ability to field calls and return messages in a timely manner.—Okay, so we love this place. However, this time on my July 24 birthday we were woken at 3:30 AM by super-loud and obnoxious hotel worker picketers! They banged loud drums and screamed over megaphones from 3:30 to 10:00 AM. Apparently sheriffs came, but couldn’t stop them. We got nearly zero sleep. Nothing past 3:30. Worst hotel stay I ever experienced.The manager agreed to comp us for a future stay, which we will happily use. This place is class; but the workers that were striking were extremely rude, and inconsiderate over their guests. I now have significantly less respect for these workers.They could have peacefully picketed, but they chose to be the most disruptive they could possibly be. Their misguided leadership should be reprimanded and/or terminated.

2023-09-16 19:40:37FABULOUS RESORT with FANTASTIC view-filled location! The resort is situated on several acres but there is also a BEAUTIFUL CITY PARK in front of the property! We enjoyed walking outside & the views from our room were awe inspiring! I read all the reviews before I booked the hotel & it stated the rooms had recently undergone a major renovation. The room was understated & elegantly furnished with 2 dbl beds (you can get King rooms, but I was traveling with a friend so we opted for 2 beds); it had a sofa, large dresser, easy chair w table… the room looked EXACTLY like the room photos the Marriott has on their website. There was a good sized bathroom with over-sized walk-in shower that had a rain shower head & also a European hand held shower(the European head was not working well so we told the Front Desk & they had it fixed. The room had a balcony with lounge chairs overlooking the magnificent scenery! We just loved it! The only thing we didn’t like was the OverVue which is a Hawaiian themed restaurant we tried. I ordered the rice bowl w steak skewers but the steak was totally burned like a piece of charcoal.. I called the waiter & he removed it from our bill. Another time we tried the outdoor patio dining which is beautiful but the hamburger came PLAIN on a 10” white plate… no slice of tomato, onion, pickle or parsley… just PLAIN! I ordered a side of fries & so did my friend & we each had a glass of wine “recommended “ by the waiter…. Our bill was $100! I realize this is a Dana Point Resort but it’s way overpriced & we ate all of our future breakfast, lunch & dinners at other restaurants. The resort offered an included “wine tasting” each night and that was great. If they just had a great “coffee shop” type restaurant it would certainly satisfy most patrons. The entire staff: valet, bell, front desk & maids were friendly & wonderful! PARKING is $46./day as there really isn’t any street parking available other than very limited parking on a small street which is usually FULL & also has limited time that you can park. All in all, I would definitely go back because the beauty of the resort & location is really important to me. I may be more “critical” in my comments & observations, as I am a retired HOTEL VP of Sales & Marketing & have many years experience in the hotel & travel industries. I share my views & comments to be helpful to both travelers as well as hotel staff. Hope this helps you!😁

2023-06-26 00:51:05This is the second time Ive stayed here. Both times for a work conference. The rooms have been very well updated since the last time I stayed there and are very well appointed. The views are spectacular, and the grounds are very well maintained.Service is excellent and the food is very good.My only gripe is, there is no excuse for charging $40 for a breakfast buffet. I realize most people are probably paying with corporate cards during these events, but thats ridiculous.

2023-08-12 14:22:00Wont stay here again. Terrible experience. Water in iron was brown and almost ruined my shirt right before the wedding. The hotels response was that I purchase something from their store to remove the stain. No warning about the loud picketers until wee Pais at check in. They were there blowing horns and yelling before 7am on a Saturday. Have the decency to tell your guests before they arrive. Disgusting.The hotel wants to pretend they are the Ritz, but treat you like motel 6.

2023-07-26 05:06:35The good, bad and happy ending.Good, overlooking Dana Point Harbor, seeing the ocean, hearing the seals but at a distance so their barking sounds pleasant. NO CARPET which is a must for me as I am allergic to carpet and so few hotels understand this need. Pleasant room.The bad was a loud event planned just outside my room window when I returned on day 2 evening, and even with window closed the music thumping was very disturbing. I firmly believe that what makes a store, company or hotel great is their resolution when there is a problem. And this was a big problem for me. Without going into too much detail just know that the manager made me 100% happy. I have stayed here before and I will stay here again.This location is fabulous. Many outdoor restaurants at the harbor. And the yachts, the ocean, the weather. So much fun.
