2023-08-15 07:39:32Theres a new restaurant on the island, and its delicious! If you cant decide between Laotian food or sushi? Why not both right?!?If you never had Laotian food, youre missing out, but dont worry Laos & Sushi Bistro got you, along with some delicious sushi. If you like Thai food, then you will love Laotian food, bc its very similar but Lao food tends to use more lime and lean on the saltier side. The Mok Pla (Steam catfish) was my favorite dish with sticky rice. The Larb Ped and Nam Kao Tod were so tasty and refreshing with the lettuce wrap. Dont forget to order their delicious sushi, especially the lobster rolls. All the dishes were beautifully plated.Great food and awesome customer service! Check them out when youre in Alameda.

2023-09-11 17:58:59Excellent food and service. We ordered the Goong Gra Bok, Nam Kao Tod, Kao Lao Pho and the Massaman Curry - very varied flavors. Everything was excellent. The Kao Lao Pho reminded me slightly of Bo Kho, with a star anise and large pieces of beef roast (maybe a chuck roast) - fantastic. The Nam Kao Tod (bright, crispy and fresh) and Massaman Curry (warm and hearty) were also equally delicious. Did not get to try the sushi. I love the variety in the flavors and textures. Definitely adding this spot to our favorites. We will be back for more!

2023-07-22 01:24:36Food was more than expected. For the price it is worth it. The flavor of the Kao Soy Gai was excellent with strong curry and notes of cilantro and onion. The sushi was amazing as well. Service was on point and on key. Would go back for another try

2023-09-27 02:59:38Came back a week later with a GF for dinner on a Thursday at 5:00p....Started with their oysters and was craving their Mok Pla (catfish with seasonings and herbs steamed in a banana leaf), so ordered that again along with the Nam Kao Tod (crispy fried rice tossed with pork, egg, dried coconut, red curry, peanuts in a spicy lime juice) that you spoon into lettuce, roll and devour. Food was consistently good, and service was excellent. Im definitely a fan!____________________Stopped in on a Tuesday at 5:30p. I was the first person sat for dinner, and then more than half of the restaurant was occupied shortly thereafter. Was curious with their Laotion side of the menu, therefore ordered the...1) Karee Puff (flaky golden pastry filled with veggies and taro)2) Goong Gra Bok (fried shrimp in egg roll wrapper)3) Mok Pla (catfish with seasonings and herbs steamed in a banana leaf) 4) Lychee Ice TeaEverything was delicious and flavorful...the fish was so amazing!! Service was great too!! Ill definitely be back to try more of their Lao dishes. Yummmmm!

2023-06-14 07:15:03The food was delicious. Most of us had a chicken curry with vegetables (I’m sorry, but I don’t remember the specific name of the dish). The sauce was amazing, the chicken was nice, and the brown rice it came with was unlike any I’d had before (and very good). I would have liked more vegetables, but I usually think that about restaurant food. The level of spiciness was just right — there was a bit of heat, but it did not overwhelm the other flavors. Portion sizes were generous. They have only been open for three days, but they graciously stayed open for my party even though I suspect it was after their official closing hours (finding somewhere to eat in Alameda at 9:00 on a weeknight was challenging). It took a bit longer to get our food than I might have wished, but that could have been due to a combination of them being so new and the late hour — and they brought us a free appetizer which took the edge off our hunger (since it was late we were pretty hungry!).The atmosphere was pleasant and the people working there were very nice. (Note to the owners: You might want to think about changing the music, but thanks for not making it too loud.)I’m looking forward to tying some of the other delicious-sounding dishes next time.

2023-07-29 04:38:17This is definitely an underestimated place. 5 stars are not too much. We just walked by and were immediately attracted by the Lao cuisine because even as an Asian person I had never had Lao food. And I have to say it amazes me! Rich flavors, spot-on spices, shareable sizes—everything is just right. I strongly recommend their Mok Pla—so good!I agree with the other reviews that their service is friendly. For me, that’s just the right amount of service, not some waitress coming to your table every five mins with insanely big and fake smile and high voices disturbing your peaceful meal. They are in many ways also very humble. They asked for suggestions for their newly opened place and only have 20% as the highest tip, which they should definitely charge more. Their prices are quite low for such good food. It’s a fine dinning choice worth a second visit.
