Liu Mandarin Kitchen in Auburn

Based on reviews, we anticipated a better experience. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived around 6 pm and it was cold inside. The waitress insisted on seating us by a window, and said it would not be cold because of a nearby heating vent. But it was cold. The food tasted okay, but there was a distinct lack of all things vegetable in the Pad Thai and the Chow Mien. This was particularly odd given that Pad Thai is typically loaded with veggies. We both agreed that we honestly make a better Pad Thai at home. The best item we ordered was the pot stickers, but they weren’t stand out. We were surprised to be given only a fork in our “place setting”, and had to ask for a knife. No chopsticks were offered. And strangely the waitress seemed annoyed that we were there., which we couldn’t figure out. Overall the atmosphere was uncomfortable and unwelcoming, and the food was just okay. We were disappointed to say the least and won’t bother to go back.

I ordered the pork dumplings in general tso’s chicken and it came out to 33.45 without tip. The dumplings were way too doughy and the only flavor and texture is of minced green onion. Some of the worst dumplings I’ve had.For the chicken dish, I am not sure there was any chicken. Most of each piece was all breading. The flavor of the sauce was worse than what you can get from Trader Joe’s.The food only took 4mins 38sec for to be brought out once I ordered it which shows me that it is far from freshly made either flash fried or reheated.

Yummy!! Dumplings on point, lunch special price you cant beat. Fast service & the house made hot sauce is sooooo bomb!!!

We’ve been in a bunch of times and each time is as good as the first. Absolutely excellent food that wasn’t mass produced. Everything is fresh and flavorful and it’s a family run business—we are lucky to have them in Auburn.

Wow!! What a Gem! Didnt even know this business exists, only found it because every Asian food restaurant we passed yesterday was closed. Super pleasant family working this modest space offering FRESH MADE food. The pot stickers, a.k.a. dumplings, were flavor bombs. Im still salvation for their salt and pepper shrimp. Nice portion and fabulous taste. My son order Pad Thai style rice noodle that hosted chicken so tender it practically melted and flavor so full and pleasing he wanted to drink the sauce of the left overs! I only saw three people there working but every encounter was delightful. I highly recommend everyone gives this place a try! Its not your average American version Chinese food!

Pre-pandemic!Visited this place a few times during my recent trips to Auburn, CA and Ive become quite a fan. The owners are super nice and hospitable. And their food is fresh and delicious. My boyfriend loves coming here as he doesnt get to have authentic Chinese food as often so visits here are a treat.The place is bright and spacious, and the food is great. Service has always been good during my previous experiences.I live in NY at the moment, so Im none too sure when Ill be able to return to CA, nor can I really shed any new information to their covid-19 safety measures at this time, but what I can tell you is that if theyre offering take out or delivery, please dont hesitate in supporting this local business!! I highly recommend them to anyone in the area. Im jealous if youre able to order from them!

If youre looking for authentic Chinese food in Auburn, then this is the place for you!It was a Sunday night and I was looking for some comfort food, which for me is dumplings. I saw the reviews about this restaurant highlighting their dumplings and I knew I had to try it out. I walked into the restaurant around 6pm and placed an order for pork dumplings (fried) and beef noodle soup (红烧牛肉面). They told me that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. The staff was very friendly and just something to keep in mind, theyre requesting customers to pay in cash!The dumplings were honestly some of the best that Ive had in a while. Their dumplings have a very nostalgic, homemade quality to them. You can tell that the dumplings were made with care and fresh ingredients. Their beef noodle soup is equally as good, with a very flavorful broth and tender pieces of beef. Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied with my meal, and it definitely gave me the feeling of comfort that I was looking for that night.While I cant wait to try out some of their other dishes, their dumplings will definitely remain my go-to order!

Wish there was a 4.5 star rating that I could give. Have been there a couple of times now and everything we have tried has been delicious.The steamed bun and the Sesame Chicken we had tonight were delicious. So were the Singapore noodles.The problem we have here isnt the speed of getting your food, its that once you get it, they tend to forget youre there.We will keep going though because the food is delicious and fresh.Edit Sept 2 2018. This is authentic Chinese, not Americanized Chinese food. The food is prepared from family recipes. I really wanted to love this restaurant. The building is beautiful and the atmosphere homey. The lemon chicken has an eggy after taste. The beef noodle soup, was hot and fresh with a fishy after taste. The pork bun was our favorite. They definitely put all their love into the buns. This delightful little spot had amazing authentic food with tons of variety as well as for vegetarians. Dumplings were amazing must try!
