It was our first time at Lobster West and arrived 4:20pm. Great casual ambiance, seating along the patio.they have generous servings, juicy and flavorful lobster and crab sandwiches. The soup was awesome for the cold weather. We will surely be back for the food. An area to improve for dining customers is the improvement is rest room for the dining guests. Not only you’ll have to walk around the building to get to it, but it’s one cubicle available.

Very fresh ingredients. The lobster rolls were delicious and the bread was so buttery, yum! Crab cakes were tasty with hardly any fillers like you see at most restaurants. Theirs is pure crab meat! Prices are expensive but worth the quality.

This place was not what I expected. Their food was good but when I see a place with the name lobster west I expected at least a loster tail option. To be fair, my lack of stars is the result of my initial reaction to when I read the menu and didnt see what I was hoping for. This place is good, just not for me. The employees were very helpful and friendly. I received my food quickly.

If there is a lobster roll I normally order it so I feel like I have a lot to compare it too and this is one of the best I have ever had. Lots of lobster, buttery toasted soft bread and just get taste. I usually get mine Connecticut style which is served warm and buttery vs Maine which is chilled with mayo. They have other options too like the crab and shrimp roll and combos if you want to taste everything.

I go here once a month for the epic gluten free lobster roll. Thank you Lobster West, for considering those who need gluten free!! In addition, I have never liked Cole Slaw, but whatever they put on theirs is incredible! I order two sides of it just so I can take one home!The very best lobster roll on the west coast!

One word to describe this place is delicious! I tried the Maine event rolls which had lobster, crab and shrimp. They took me by surprise the bun was warm and buttered but the inside had Mayo with the cold toppings. I will say it went very well together and they were topped with seasoning. I also tried the New England clam chowder which was just above mediocre. The space inside is quite small and does not favor large parties but there is out door seating. It was more on the pricy side one 3 rolls one scoop of soup and two drinks was $55. Was worth at least trying once

I thought my roll was going to be warm and in butter but it was cold and in mayo. Thankfully it wasnt much mayo at all and it was still very delicious. The bisque was very good!!! I was happy with my lunch, albeit pricey, but I would go elsewhere next time I want a lobster roll. 🦞 The staff is very nice!

I have come here several times over the last two years. I have enjoyed the food here. The lobster is definitely fresh! I also appreciate the bread that is used. The only draw back is that it can be a bit pricey; but given the high quality of ingredients and consistent quality it’s not too bothersome. Usually no issues with parking or seating. I’d say don’t come here if you are “very hungry.” However if you want great quality lobster rolls; this is a great location for it. I would come again and recommend

This review is long overdue! I have been coming here a long time. Always consistent in 5 star service from the staff and owners. The lobster bisque is the best in town along with Connecticut style lobster roll. I finally tried the lobster salad and crab roll today! They were just as awesome. Keep up the great job everyone. The best lobster roll I’ve had in my entire life. Many times lobster rolls are either too greasy with fake butter or the lobster meat is dry or they smother it in mayonnaise. Not here! T he lobster roll is absolutely perfect here.

Might be my favorite Lobster roll place on the west coast! You’ll want to have the extra meat on the lobster roll, and they also offer crab rolls too! Toasted buttery roll with fresh lobster meat, yummmm! Sides are great too, I recommend getting the beans and coleslaw. Ample parking at this location, too, which is helpful!

Great experience and great food. Ordered two of the Boss Lobster Rolls. The buns were nicely toasted and buttered and the Boss option meant they were stuffed with lobster! Great ambiance, sitting on the deck/walkway outside of the restaurant. Was supposed that the lobster met itself was chilled and not warmed, but it was still great--another nice dining option for when were in that area.

I am always on a good hunt for an amazing lobster roll and this I must say it could be the third or almost the second best I have had. I got the boss and another regular size and I was a little disappointed cause it was almost the same size but way more expensive. I do love how buttery and making their bread is. If you have time, just drive 5 mins away and enough the roll by the beach! That’s what I did. Oh their coleslaw was actually pretty good also! It had a little peppery taste to it but still better than allot of places I have had.

I had the Classic Lobster Roll for lunch, along with coleslaw and kettle cooked chips for my two sides. The lobster roll is a little pricey at $21, but super delicious, melt in your mouth buttery lobster and roll. The coleslaw was also super! Definitely worth a little splurge!!

Been coming here for months and it’s the BEST lobster (or other seafood) roll I’ve had! The service is always prompt and friendly with a family atmosphere and the best lobster roll in town for the price/quality. We’ve had every roll (lobster, shrimp, scallop) both ways (hot or cold) and they’re all excellent—each roll is a good size with plenty of meat to fill it up so every bite (even the last one) has a good ratio. Their brioche rolls are heavenly (buttery toasty deliciousness), and they even have a gluten free roll that is shockingly good—if you’re gf like me you won’t even miss the brioche! My favorite is the scallops (served hot) on the gf roll—the scallops are big, buttery, and perfectly cooked (never rubbery). All of their sides are good too: I never even liked baked beans until I tried them here! Can’t say enough about this place it’s awesome and well worth a stop anytime you’re in Encinitas! Also full disclosure we took a few bites before we took pictures of the rolls because it’s just so good I forgot.

Great place to come for a quick bite with various options of seafood (lobster, scallops, crab, and shrimp) in a warm, buttery roll. Located right next to the beach,it has a nice coastal breeze and the ability to stop right after a beach trip or bike ride down the 101.I had the lobster roll and the lobster was well prepared with its simplistic seasoning and a slice of lemon.One headache is its parking. Its heavy traffic in the area, so parking may be difficult depending on the time of day.

Oh my god my experience to this place was like WOW🤓. I mean their food is Soo delicious and the staff customer service is awesome. They offer plenty of sitting, easy to understand their menu, plenty of parking space and its also a dog 🐶 friendly place to bring your companion with a leash on. I order the Lobster roll sandwich, and the Crab 🦀 roll sandwich which comes with some good coleslaw which is to die for. I totally recommend this place and you will see what I am talking about. They have a variety of stuff to order on the menu but my favorites are those two rolls that I mentioned above.You wont be disappointed...Enjoy!!!!

Always love this restaurant. I drive over 80 miles to eat here and it is always worth it. Food is fresh and cooked just right. Friendly staff and weather you eat inside or outside the atmosphere is great. It is in a busy location, but the parking lot is always available and easy access to the restaurant. Lobster roll is like the best hot dog you’ve ever had with delicious Maine lobster instead of garbage factory meat. The bun is warm, toasted and buttery. Paired with a scoop of lobster bisque and Maine Root ginger brew makes the perfect lunch after a day of surfing Encinitas cold waters.

Lobster meat was decent quality and tasted fresh. The beans and cole slaw sides were good too, only $3.50 additional. 4.5 Stars for sure. The servings of fish in their rolls is generous, the fish tastes fresh (which can be rough with crab rolls), and their bread is really, really awesome. We also shared a cup of clam chowder and lobster bisque. Both were excellent. Id like to see some lobster (even the small claw meat) on top of the bisque.

The bun is THE BEST PART of my experience at Lobster West! It had just the right amount of seasoning & mayo. It was toasted perfectly & with the shrimp... it was so delicious. The clam chowder was pretty darn good, not much clam in it but overall still tasty. Also, the beans and coleslaw were pretty good as well, with just the perfect amount of sweetness.Overall, Lobster West is decent place. A little cozy on the inside, so we sat on the patio which was a nice experience.When in Encinitas, would I return? Absolutely!! I LOVED the shrimp roll & their customer service!!

This tiny place has really tasty lobster rolls with plenty of lobster. Loved the buttered and toasted bun that was light enough so you could taste the lobster. That and a scoop of clam chowder was perfect. The clam chowder was also good and rich. Very friendly staff. Will go back one day.

Service was quick.and.friendly.I thought Lobster rolls were supposed to be hot with butter and thats what I was most excited for but IT WASNT. 😔I Researched it later and apparently they are both served hot and cold just in General. But I dont know if the place will do a hot one.?They did not ask me which I preferred which they might want to consider too.I also thought because its Seafood. I might get an automatic butter cup but no dice. I also ordered to go and they did not give me any utensils or napkins by default. But they did have plenty available near the exit.They have 3 levels of meat stuffing for more or less money and I got the largest size crab roll, and compared to other rolls Ive had it seemed normal sized if that. The meat was also coming way more out of the top than it was actually inside the roll. Even though it was cold it still did taste good .I just wouldve much preferred it with hot lemon butter.I know Seafood and especially shellfish are expensive and seasonally priced but I felt like the price was too much for the experience. About17% too much. Not many people were there so maybe its not much of a local favorite.

Weve driven by hundreds of times and finally decided to try a lobster roll.$21 for a very oily, hot dog sized roll, with no more than 2 ounces of lobster meat and if you want chips and a drink add on $3.50 more. No table side service and to top it all off there are signs that say please bus your own table!

I vsited Lobster West after a day hike and split the Main Event (full lobster roll, shrimp roll, and crab roll) with my fiance. It made for a fairly expensive lunch (almost $50 with no sides or drinks), but was very tasty. I wouldnt recommend that someone order the shrimp roll, as the shrimp did not look fresh/local. However, the crab roll was good and the lobster roll was to die for. If I ever return, Id like to try their Lobster Bisque and/or Clam Chowder. Its cool that they have a flight of soup. Im happy I had the experience of eating at Lobster West, but dont think Id go out of my way to return.

We got the Flight of Soups and the Maine Fest. We enjoyed two of the soups, the Clam Chowder and the Lobster Bisque. Neither of us cared for the Maryland Crab Soup. The Crab, Lobster, and Shrimp rolls were excellent. Love their buttery rolls. A little expensive, but not out of line. They were not seating inside and that’s not their fault, but please send someone out to wipe off your tables.

Portion sizes do not match the price point and are not worth it in my opinion. Wasn’t that impressed with the coleslaw and the lobster roll was tiny and the meat was cold (which I think is how it’s suppose to come) which is fine but I can see how that may be off putting to some. My boyfriend and I both got the same thing. Lobster roll, coleslaw and a bag of chips and it was $50 and we were still hungry afterwards..

Great stuff! Everything is carry out right now, except for a few outside tables and low-level service. But this aint about that.We ordered online--which went perfectly. We split a Maine Event with two sides. (We both chose cole slaw and it was perfect.) This is a lobster sandwich, crab sandwich, and shrimp sandwich. The sandwiches are simple: lots of seafood, a light amount of dressing, and succulent bread that must be soaked in butter before being perfectly toasted. It was worth every bite!Parking was plentiful; getting in and out was easy. They had a table at the door to handle the transaction--wed ordered and tipped online. Service was courteous, prompt, and our order was 100% correct.Highly recommended!

Great food but they mess up the orders 3 out of 5 times. (like serving the rolls cold instead of hot style or “forgetting” to add the extra lobster when you order max style). Not too much of a problem when you’re eating in but hard to correct when you’re ordering it to go. When they are selling you what’s essentially a small sandwich for $22 you expect more. Be extra careful when you order to go the problems seem to happen a lot more often. That said the people are nice and your order only takes 15 minutes or so most days.

5 stars because their food was delicious!!! I’m not a big fan of seafood but this was definitely worth eating. Rolls are small I could have ate 2 and my husband agreed. I got the carb roll and he got the shrimp roll. Definitely would recommend this place. We did have some issues ordering. The lady got 1 roll wrong and a drink wrong the tried blaming us for her mistake! But don’t let dumb people keep you from a bomb roll experience. Just triple check your order with them!!

Very expensive for such a small lobster sandwich. I was appalled when I saw how small it was. It had been described as a big sandwich, which we had intended to split since it costs $35, but it looked like a third of a sandwich for one person. Disappointing. However, the flight of soups was good.

Lobster West is a solid little lobster roll restaurant that definitely has me thinking about the East Coast but not completely as solid as the original.They have a selection of bottled beer as well as soups and lots of different types of rolls. The lobster roll was solid, the bread was nice and soft and the lobster bisque was rich but not overly so. My only problem was that even with extra meat (cost was about $40 with two drinks), it was a fairly small order and I wish the lobster was a bit warmer.Parking is not too bad in private lot.

We ordered the Maine feast, and it was truly delicious! Each of the rolls were delectable in their own way. Make sure to request drawn butter to pour over them! The staff was fabulous and very helpful. I highly recommend trying it out yourself, and know that we will be returning ourselves.

The restaurant is small & quaint, with an East Coast vibe— the interior resembles the small lobster shacks along the Maine coastline. Outside tables have nice shade or sunny spots to dine at. The lobster is shipped in from Maine but they do serve local lobster as well. This is by far, the best lobster-roll we’ve tasted outside of Maine. Great lunch. Went in for dinner and got a cup of Maryland crab soup and a lobster grilled cheese. It was ok but didnt overly impress. The soup was decent flavored but seemed to have very little crab and overall, not much crab flavor, mostly just the broth flavor of the soup. I probably should have gotten the lobster roll instead which probably has substantially more lobster. The grilled cheese had a moderate amount at best and was not very big. Service was pleasant. A very attentive and friendly guy taking orders and bringing out the food, asking often if I needed anything else. Moderately busy, 3 people ahead of me in line but it moved quickly and the wait for food was no more than 7-8 minutes. Pricey, but expected given its crab and lobster, but portions not being huge, it was ok. I will be back and try more on the menu.

Previous visits here were much better. My husband and I visited Lobster West during our short vacay in Encinitas.Their lobster rolls are amazing! I loved the buttery bun, and the fresh lobster meat just melts in your mouth immediately! Very savory, and rich. The staffs were super nice and inviting. They also offered us a small bowl of clam chowder to try. The restaurant is very close to the beach, so its good to take the food to the beach and watch the sunset.

The delivery service driver ignored my explicit instructions and delivered to a public area at the hospital where we work as nurses. Also the food was not delivered primarily because my wife who placed the order does not have a GrubHub account. Lobster West refused to replace our order AND refused to refund us. I know your reading this because you want to know about the Lobster roll and if its worth the money. Lobster in and of itself probably isnt, but your getting an authentic Maine lobster roll. Unlike the California spineys here, Maine lobster meat is more tender and sweeter. The colder waters are the trick to that and our West we have none.I prefer the Connecticut style as its served warm. While both have butter I was under the impression a true Maine doesnt. Either way I like both. A handful of lobster meat and what Im told is claw meat is proven by the shapes youll see of the little red chunks inside. The roll is a sweet and soft, buttery even without the additional, almost dinner style filling with a split top.Shrimp roll sounds unappealing as we get shrimp all the time, but Maine shrimp have the same difference that Gulf shrimp and Maine shrimp have, colder waters equals sweeter meat. The shrimp themselves are pink and not white, smaller and no vein. Better to me than Langostina, slipper or spiney in the regard, closest to Maine meat as possible.Crab roll uses Dungeoness and Blue, but I would totally prefer all blue. The slaw they use for the combos is a good amount, chunkier and substantial, not watery. I think it could use more kick and pepper, but as good as it is I dont think it has a place as a true compliment to the rolls, but rather just a generally accepted side dish. I prefer the chips (kettle for crunch) and would almost rather have a pickle and potato salad.Tip: The Maine Event Combo isnt a lot of food, but expensive for a lunch. To me worth it as each meat has such a complexity.Bisque to me was simple and classic, but I am not a fan of covering the clean fresh lobster flavor. I was hoping for more spice like a chowder, but without the chunks.Chowder was bold, tons of clam juice and flavor, large chunks of potato and the spice I was looking for. Its easy to make a good chowder with good ingredients, but harder to make a good bisque.Maryland Crab soup was a bust to me, Manhattan clam chowder with crab and it totally doesnt do the crab justice. To me tomato based anything is tricky due to paste vs. puree vs. natural vs. kind of tomato. Its so hard to get right. This was doomed a bit.I kind of went a little overboard on the seafood as I tried all the rolls on 1 visit, all the soups on 1 visit and all the salads on 1 visit and although I was looking forward to a Socal-ish crab Louie I was surprised to not see 1.The lobster tail salad is pretty killer with avo and the tangerine butter dressing. The lump crab salad has another really great dressing, maybe too strong though. To me the strawberries actually kind of hurt it and the cheese as well. Keep the flavors in the seafood salad light and not overpowering, let the most expensive item shine you know.Whoopie pies a Maine staple are a delight fully worthy of following excellent lobster rolls. Light in texture, but large in flavor, its something most west coasters are indifferent to. Surprisingly good, I mean bad for you.Its a small family run business. Chad, the manager is a great guy, super enthusiast. Customer service is spot on. Owners Joel and his wife Kim handle the business end of things while Larry does the kitchen/ops duties. Its a small shop on the corner and would get better traffic if their sign went higher on the building instead of the banner. Price is decent considering they overnight lobster daily, overnight blue crab 6 days a week, Maine shrimp are never frozen and if I recall the Dungeoness crab is local. They source fruits and veggies locally as well. Tables are basic, décor is more sub shop with some flair than restaurant persay. Very beachy summertime vibe, though I kind of wish it was just a shack for authenticity.To me it blows Bite of Boston out of the water and the Lobster Truck in OC as well and that is award winning.
