Pretty solid dim sum place. Ordering is very efficient, you can order through your phone, just need to scan the QR code when you are seated at your table. The place was very busy though, we waited more than 30 minutes to get in, so Id recommend making a reservation beforehand if its possible. The restaurant has plenty of seating, and even has a second floor. Food was great, I ordered some veggie dumplings, soup dumplings and pan fried noodles.

It took about 5-7 minutes for someone to notice I arrived and was struggling with the menu, for some reason, the entrance is behind a wall and the workers cant see you unless theyre right next to you but still expected someone to check up on new guests.They sat me down immediately gave me a glass of water and then vanished for more than 10 minutes, I didnt understand why no one was taking my order until I had to figure out by myself that I do that on the phone and they just bring the food to your table... after a few failed attempts to get a waiters attention I had to ask the table next to me.Meanwhile, I see them walk past me or just stand still doing nothing and not looking at the customers as if its purposely, as a first-time customer I wouldve loved some help and recommendations but none were there.Overall very poor service.But the positive side is that the food was great, and tasted amazing (even though I had to guess by myself what to order and just got things randomly). The portion was big enough and the price was fair.If the food wasnt that good Id never come back again but just because of how great it was Id consider coming again if theyd pay attention to a guy sitting at the table in the middle of the restaurant.

Im generally not a fan of qr menus but at this restaurant I am. Because you order from the menu through the qr code and they bring it out to you. That was probably the only good thing about this restaurant. Oh and their siu Mai.Siu-Mai was very chunky and we love it.Chili oil was decent, but not worth being charged 1 dollar for it. First time going to a dim sum place that charges for chili oil.Soup dumplings was nothing special. It was small and didnt have a lot of soup in it.Not enough meat in the bbq pork rice rolls.Service was quick but nothing special.I wouldnt come back here again. Theres probably better dim sum places within the area. Quality wasnt there.

This is a fantastic premium dim sum place here in Old Town Pasadena. The service is great and the food is always delicious. The #75 Beef Chow Fun was my favorite and cant wait to try some of their other offerings. Limited Street parking outside.

Long line and a bit understaff( we went on a holiday) but worth the wait. We didn’t know they offer YELP checkin so if you decided to go you could join the line ahead on Yelp. They also had a kiosk at the entrance for you to pre-order for your dine-in. Food is delicious and good portion.

The wait can be pretty long, and we found out you can get in line ahead of time through Yelp.There’s a parking lot (paid, but there was no attendant when we went) behind the restaurant, and you can enter from there as well.When you’re seated, they give you QR codes to scan to look at the menu and order. Everyone can order from their own phone, and it will be charged to the table. The food was good, but I think it was way overpriced.

I love this place and the house specials, especially the fried tofu was great and I am not a vegetarian. Also had a pescatarians in the group and they enjoyed offerings of a bunch of shrimp, scallop and crab dishes. Their steamed dim sum is always great and the fried food was crispy and not oily, meaning the chef knew how to handle that fire and oil! The service can be a bit slow when asking for things not on the menu like extra napkins, bowls, etc. but also attentive. You have to use the QR code menu to order, which I think it fine. Also good for pick up.

Overall: Great dimsum place with nice setting. Super filling and reasonable price. Would go again.Taste: Tasted authentic and good. Liked everything that we ordered. Great dim sum found here!! Not only can you get most of your traditional dim sum dishes, but they also have some more modern takes on dumplings and bao. There are no carts, so you order from a check box sheet. They also provide a menu with some helpful pictures for those who arent as familiar with dim sum. Prices are a bit more expensive than other dim sum restaurants that Ive been to, but the quality is definitely there. It gets super busy on the weekends, so I recommend coming early right when they open or later in the afternoon. They dont take reservations for parties less than 8. Service was friendly and we didnt feel rushed. The decor is modern and simple. Public parking can be found close by for reasonable prices.

Excellent shrimp dumplings. Wrappers were very thin. Seafood with pan fried noodles was HUGE and delicious. Congee was very good too. Loved the tea too! Only thing we were not fond of is looking at the menu on our phones and ORDERING from the phone app also! Makes it very difficult when you want something a little different from the menu. Although the waiter was very quick to make the change for us, (we wanted pan fried noodles not crispy) we couldnt have done it on the app.

I think its now $5. Check still. Thats Monday - Friday. Its free on the weekend.You can track the wait-list live through Yelp.Lets talk about food.. .Im not crazy about it. 👀 Its okay.I ordered a Sprite and it was served in a cup without a lid, which I thought was fine. I didnt care. When I had a sip, it tasted like it had been sitting out there for a long time. Its flat. Weve been to the Alhambra location (admittedly a few years ago), and the Pasadena location fell short of expectation. Given the price and the popularity (waited 30 min past our check in time to be seated), I was surprised with the quality (or lack of) of the food and how youre up charged for simple things (like chili oil). Each dimsum dish was around $7/plate. In addition, avoid seating upstairs if you want to have a conversation with your family. It was difficult to be heard without having to raise your voice upstairs.

We love coming to Lunasia restaurants. This was one of the first upscale versions of Dim Sum available in Pasadena for as long as I can remember, and a nice option outside the more popular areas for Cantonese style cuisine. The portion size here is huge and you definitely should bring a larger party here so you can try more options. It can get crowded here on the weekends, so get here right when it opens or you could find yourself waiting longer than half an hour. They do the traditional items pretty well which include the turnip cake, shrimp hargow, shumai, and string beans. You cant go wrong with a lot of the dishes.

This location of Lunasia is located a block east of the busy Old Town of Pasadena. Our first impression is its run efficiently, with bilingual staff and an online waiting list and dine-in pre-ordering.The food is your typical dim sum fare with some nice twists on classics like turnip cake. Their version is sauteed with bean sprouts and jalapenos, giving it a nice kick.The atmosphere is crowded, casual and LOUD. Its honestly a little overwhelming for someone with anxiety. The concrete walls create an acoustic environment that bounces noise all around and you need to shout to be heard.The staff in general is great and very attentive with a couple of exceptions. The hostess is rather brusk and wouldnt stop to answer a question. I unfortunately witnessed another staff member use the restroom and only briefly rinse her hands with water. I later saw her in the kitchen...I dont think we will be back any time soon

Best dim sum in LA, and especially delicious har gow! Upscale atmosphere so no cart ladies here, and the prices are a bit higher than other dim sum places, but it’s worth it due to the quality. Usually no wait here before noon on the weekends, unlike at the Alhambra location, where it’s almost mandatory to arrive before opening time. No prices are displayed until the bill comes, though they have the prices on their website. They charge per person for tea. Park in the back for $5.

Delicious dim sum experience especially for first timers. The menu is descriptive with pictures for all the dishes and the food comes out extremely fast! Had the sticky rice, shumai, crispy shrimp rolls, shrimp fried rice, and turnip cake. The dish that impressed me most was the crispy shrimp rolls because they combination of crisp shell with the juicy inside of the roll was amazing! The other dishes were just as good as you get from other dim sum places. The only exception to this was the fried rice which came out salty as hell. Going to Lunasia is a special treat for my family. Their Dim Sum is incredible. Some favorites are the slurpy soup dumplings, plump shrimp Har-Gow, the exquisite Siu-mai with truffle, and my favorite, the earthy lotus-wrapped Sticky Rice Wrap with Abalone. We tried the Stir-fried Pea Sprouts with Tofu and it was divine: the tofu is silky custard on the inside and crispy on the outside, the pea sprouts are fresh and vegetal, and the subtle clear sauce is the perfect vehicle for all that freshness. The Macao style Egg Custard tarts are end-of-meal perfection. Be sure to make online reservations to avoid a long wait.

*UPDATE: Called the restaurant and the man on the phone was apologetic and accommodating. He agreed to refund our order and did it immediately. So speak up if you want good service.*Went with my boyfriend shortly after opening, the restaurant was empty when we arrived but packed 2 minutes into us sitting down. Despite this, most of the food arrived cold, they forgot to give us Chilli oil, they forgot my lemonade then didnt have a top to the paper cup so I could take it out the restaurant.They pretty much ignored us or acted annoyed when we would flag ANYONE down for directions to the bathroom or questions about the menu. One of the waiters had a language barrier and couldnt communicate that one of the buns was sweet so that was a nasty surprise. The soup dumplings arrived cold with a teardrop of soup in it, if there was any in it at all. Also the soup dumplings seemed to be premade/frozen from like Costco and not homemade.And the gyoza came warm-ish, but they were oily, and tasted like nothing.They ask if youd like tea but they make it seem complimentary so expect an unexpected $3 charge if you say yes.The ONLY good part of our trip was the siu-mai with caviar. It was the only bit of food that arrived hot and flavorful. It was the only thing worth the price but not enough to make us come back. I wish Id asked for a refund tbh.PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY.

My go to dimsum place although they have other offerings. My favorites are: Pork/Shrimp Shu Mai, Shrimp Hargow, Hong Kong Style Pork Belly, Sticky Rice, Roasted Duck and Duck with Buns. Downside, no free parking however, there is parking behind the restaurant for $5 or paid street parking out front if you find one.

Waiting time is pretty long, both before and after being tabled. The dishes are bad and dont worth waiting. The almond milk shown in the photo is over sweet. Its nothing but almond milk plus plenty of sugar and a square bread placed on top. We wait about 15min for this simple but crazy dish. The other dim sum dishes taste bad as well. As a Cantonese, I the highest rating I can give a 2 star to this specific Lunasia Dim Sum House. The environment is OK, but it is more like a Hong Kong style cafe than a dim sum house. Service is also fine. The BIGGEST PROBLEM is the food. The flavor is way toooooooo strong. Either too sweet or too salty. 蛋挞 (Egg Custard Tart) is the worst. The egg is over steamed and the coat of it is way too thick. The finish of the dim sum is bad. Look at the scallop dumplings (墨汁皮带子虾饺) I showed, everything is scattered around. TBH, I’ve never seen such dumplings before. BTW, I went to the Lunasia in Alhambra quite often. The dim sum there is much much better than here. If you want to spend a nice morning with fined dim sum, go to the Lunasia in Alhambra, don’t bother this location.

What a delightful surprise! The Siu Mai were huge and tasted great! I would come back to this place. The servers are always walking up and down the restaurant, but they should be a little more attentive. We still had to wave them down to ask for things. You place your food order with a menu. We will definitely not be going back which is sad because we really wanted to love the place as we live nearby. The pork and shrimp sui mai were a bit sweet which was weird. You have to pay extra for the spicy sauces(?!). The roasted duck was moist but not memorable. The rest of the dim sums fell apart as you tried to pick them up. There is no ambience in the restaurant and the service was clinical.Instead, I recommend going to your nearest Din Tai Fung and enjoying a great meal with great service and all the chili and soy sauce you want!

You cant go wrong with the classic dimsum, but they add their own spin to them too, which is great. A great gem of a dim sum place in Pasadena. We had a small family and close friends brunch here. We all enjoyed the lovely siew mai, har Kao, char siew pao, (sp.) custard tarts and several other lovely dishes chased with a delicate chrysanthemum tea. The service was reasonably fast despite how busy they were. Thoroughly good food and luckily beat the crowds as when we left, the queue had built up quite substantially.

I’m not sure why this Lunasia location has so many positive reviews as it served the worst dimsum I’ve ever had. Every single item we got were extremely salty, and the steamed dishes like hargow, siumai, rice noodles were either extremely terribly made (soggy and stiff) or they were frozen before. The shrimp from rice noodles were definitely the worst - it had a lingering bleach/detergent taste and was unpalatable. Chicken feet was watery and lacked flavour; egg yolk bun was runny and tasted artificial; jelly fish was dry like rubber and the fact it was $9.99 was simply offensive; the chicken corn soup & steamed ribs were the only things that were palatable but we still couldn’t finish them. Actually, we weren’t able to finish a single item that we ordered and the bill was $73, which is very expensive for dimsum for 2. I understand that the restaurant is not located in a Asian populated area, so maybe it cannot be held to the same standard as those in Alhambra/Monterey, but a lack of quality control in their food regardless of which population it serves is just a reflection of laziness.

The food is absolutely worth it! I had an assortment of dim sum for take away and was pleasantly surprised of how large the portions were. They had the biggest shumai I have ever seen, the size of meatballs! The takeaway is in very nice packaging but most importantly the quality of the food is excellent. The dumplings were fresh and even the rice was perfect. I will definitely be eating here again and worth a detour to Pasadena.

We enjoy Dim Sum at Lunasia once in a while, as the food quality is generally good and consistent. However, the management and service at the front desk needs some improvement. My family and I were there on 2/28 (Pasadena location), and after waiting for 45 minutes, we received a text on my phone stating that a table was ready for us. When we showed the text to the receptionist or hostess, she claimed that were not on the list. She asked me to indicate my name on her screen three times and repeatedly asked whether I might have signed up for the waiting list under another name. It became an exhausting experience, and when I said no firmly the third time, she simply said well have to get back on the waiting list! When I requested to speak with the manager or for a table on the ground that theres the text we received, she told us she would do so only if well get out of her way. It was a crowded and narrow corridor, with other customers seating beside or standing behind us. The manager eventually apologized for the confusion, but only after some back and forth about whether she had called my name when the table was ready. She insisted repeatedly that she did, but none of my family members or I heard it during the entire time we were waiting at the restaurant. So, please, make it a professional practice to call customers names clearly and a couple of times, if no one seems to respond to the first round. Yes, its a popular place on a Saturday early afternoon, but theres no need for slighting customers.

Having this place, I dont have to go all the way to Alhambra or China Town when I crave it. They have a good selection of dishes, and I enjoy almost everything Ive tried on the menu. Here goes. For starters, my wife and I were asked to show our vaccination cards at the entrance - an unpleasant surprise. Not a hint of this on the website, not a sign on the door. The first things that took me by surprise when entering this restaurant are the large TVs playing a baseball game, and the loud country music. I thought I mistakenly entered a sports bar instead of a chinese restaurant and had to double check to make sure! The menu is extremely convenient with photos of all the items. We placed our order a full day on advance, anticipating that theyd be busy on lunar new year, but when we got there, we found a massive line. Its too expensive on doordash. They priced it too high. Expect to pay 35% more if youre buying online on top of the delivery fee and tip. Came here with my wife who is very picky about her Dim Sum (f on Hong Kong) and says if you dont factor in price, it is the best quality Dim Sum in the US, even better than Koi Palace up in SF. Super yummy food! Ive been to Lunasia a couple of times so far and plan to continue making the 20 plus mile drive. Service is fast and friendly. Food is great. This place is really busy, so if youre starving you might have to go somewhere else. The average wait time is 30 minutes to an hour. If you decide to wait youll be rewarded with excellent quality food and the need of a nap afterwards. Highly recommend it.

I came for the fluffy steamed pork buns, but the Hong Kong roast duck was crispy and tender and the Chinese broccoli was light and perfectly steamed. They call the shu Mai jumbo- sized and they are a handful. The jumbo shrimp dumplings are also stuffed with about 2.5 shrimp pieces. Yum! The only let-down was the pork-belly, which had good flavor but was too salty for my taste. We came for dim sum on a Tuesday afternoon so service was fast and attentive. The narrow restaurant feels clean with its modern, contemporary decor and 2 large flat-screen TVs (tuned to ESPN). We didnt try the entrees but Id come back, for sure. Weekends are madness, I bet!

This place has its ups and downs. The up-side is that the portions are *huge* and a great value. The down side is that they dont have the steam carts, so youre not getting the authentic experience. Soooo disappointed with my visit. So we waited 40 mints or more before we got seated and that is not because they didn’t have a table but because they forgot we were in line and went ahead to seat 4 different groups. We had to remind them and then had to wait another 15 mints to be seated. No one came to our table to take the order for the next 15 mints. Then the waiter finally made his way after waving at them multiple times and basically picked up our paper where we had marked our order. They brought our chicken by itself as we waited for the rest of our order that didn’t come out until we again asked the server where is our rest of the order. By the time we got our rice the chicken was cold. Our dim sum came but they all were also cold and we ordered chicken lattus wrap which came in the end. When we asked the server to get the manager he very rudely replied he is gone for the day, I asked who is the in charge if I need to share my concerns regarding the service and he told me, “You talk to me.” and walks away. They did not bring us any water even after asking them for 3 times. No one returned to our table to check on us. As we are eating another person stands next to our table asking us to stop and first make the payment and then continue eating. When we said we haven’t even finished eating (mind you some of our dishes are still untouched) and her response was we have people who dine and dash so this is important. Come on, how much more disrespectful can it get, we were a party of four with a 4 month old and were asked to pay the check before we could continue eating as they were worried about us running away without paying. That was it, we paid the bill adding 15% tip and left without finishing our food. No one seemed bothered that we just left. They collected their check and continued on. Never ever returning back to this place and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. Will make sure my friends don’t make the mistake of going to this place.
