Great place to go, very friendly staff. Owner is always very welcoming. I havent ate in the restaurant in years, but the area of of the front is very clean. Their Chow mein noodles are great too! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting the comfort of Chinese food.

Madame Lu’s Is the only place in Santa Barbara that I know of that makes fresh eggrolls not frozen! The same with a Gyoza dumplings. I always count on my pork lo mein and ask for extra vegetables and sauce and she’s very accommodating. If I ask for no extra salt there is no problem with that either for those that have dietary restrictions. Give it a try. It’s always very clean and very good service he won’t be disappointed!I cannot resist the pork lo me in. The servings are very generous so I always takes some home😆.Ive added a picture of Madam Lu with her permission. Shes the real deal and pays great attention to details and fresh ingredients!

Tasty, freshly made food with large portions and quality for the price point. Combination chow fun had lots of protein and veggies. Chicken with garlic sauce had the right spice level and is prepared traditionally. Wonton soup broth is rich and the wontons are classic style. Signage is challenging to see when visiting the first time, so look for a small one-way driveway just before the restaurant. Interior ambiance is minimal. We did takeout and the order was filled accurately and ahead of schedule. Overall recommended for good, fast service and tasty food.

Got here before the madness of dinner rush. Ordered a half order of the egg drop soup, and had to clarify with my server 3 times, that I had indeed ordered the half size, as it was HUGE, definitely enough for 3 or more servings. She giggled back at me and said the leftovers would taste just as good and I could take it home... I laughed back, as this was definitely going to be the case.I ordered the snow peas with water chestnuts, the sauce was light and refreshing and the vegetables were crisp and fresh tasting as well, just how you would picture veggies from the street markets.And Fried rice to round out the meal. The portions were huge and there was plenty enough for a 2nd and possible 3rd meal later.Come hungry and leave satisfied. Happy to have stumbled onto this gem, on North State street, I will definitely be back again.

We ordered the West Lake Beef Soup, but at the other Chinese restaurants we have been to, they have chopped the beef inside the soup for us, but at madam Lu, they chop the beef into large hunks and toss it into the bowl. Another complaint about the West Lake Beef Soup is that they include various ingredients that you would never find in the soup elsewhere, including a lot of celery. They should even rename it to “West Lake Celery Soup” because all you can taste in the mixture was celery. In addition, although the waiters were great, they didn’t do anything about the fact that the party at the next table had 3 screaming kids, so so much for restaurant environment!!!

The Owner Lu is absolutely AWFUL! I remember I’d go to Madam Lu as a kid and she use to be very nice and service and the food was really good but now it’s an absolute disgrace…. When me and my family go for lunch Lu is extremely rude and is giving us dirty looks the entire time. One day she’s nice then another day she seems annoyed and as a business owner you shouldn’t take out whatever personal problems you’re having out on your customers because that’s how you lose business 💯 And you’ve lost ours.

Food was good, but overpriced in my opinion. Service was ok. Felt employees were just doing their job, not really connecting, they were kind, but just doing their tasks, not really interacting. I asked about the story behind the name, Madam Lu, and the woman at the register didnt even know nor care. For me this says something about a business, especially one that regularly requires people contact and service. If our communities & world are to become more sustainably connected & compassionate, people working with people in local businesses need to care and put Heart into every simple thing. One never knows who they will interact with.Thank you. 🌸

Visiting Santa Barbara and picked this restaurant just by the name. We wanted good Chinese food. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and enough to share. Last night I combed through reviews on various sites, struggling to find a place for Chinese pick-up that wouldnt disappoint. Between the local guides who seem to love everything they review, and those who hate a place because they couldnt order almond chicken without almonds, its difficult to know whats going to happen in real life. So, after a decent (but not memorable) meal from Madam Lu last year, we decided to try it again, not willing to risk unknowns from other spots. Wow, were we happily surprised. The order: Mongolian Beef, Chicken with Black Bean, Chow Fun Noodles with Pork, and Basil Eggplant. What you should know: each dish was freshly prepared, with plenty of key ingredients and not shorted on proteins--there was lots of beef, chicken and pork in their respective dishes, with a respectable balance of vegetables and seasonings. The sauces were bright, flavorful and not at all gluey or swimming in fat. Eggplant, especially, can be a challenge to deliver without being weighed down with cooking oil. Three of us dug through the generous portions and continued to remark how pleased we were to have some really good Chinese for once in a long time. Another locally run business we are happy to support and will definitely return to. Thank you Madame Lu for the terrific dinner! We will enjoy the leftovers for lunch today.

I got to say this place was the strangest experience Ive had. Went in for the buffet, majority of the food was bland, cold, or just not very good. My personal server was kind, but I had another server looking at me intently just at the corner of the room. It made me feel really uncomfortable. And when I say staring at me, I mean Id finish a plate look over and she was still looking at me like an owl.

Madam Lu is definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the Santa Barbara area! Their food is very tasty, reasonably priced and very authentic Chinese food. The lunch buffet has a wide variety of food including my favorites orange chicken, string beans and fried dumplings. Ms. Lu is normally available to greet you at the door with her beautiful smile. Waited way too long to get the food served. The porridge was straight water plus regular cooked rice with some meat thrown in. Beef and the tofu were very salty. Oh btw, there was supposed to be salted egg yolk in the tofu, we couldnt find it. But wait, we could taste a hint of that egg yolk after for a second when you put the tofu in your mouth!What more could we ask for, it is New years eve. All other great restaurants are either closed or packed.
