3.5/5Great side and soft serve marred by mid service and dry chicken sandwich.Tingly Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich- Has a unique Chinese-American flavor that’s different from standard fried chicken sandwiches.- Too dry and heavy on the breading for me. Could use more sauce.- Not actually spicy; more of a flavor thing.Cucumber Side- Recommended! Mixed with chopped celery and some soy sauce-like (?) dressing.Malted Milk Sundae- Delicious mix of chocolate and nutty topping over a banana-flavored soft serve.The service wasn’t great for dine-in at a quiet time. Had to go up to the counter a couple times to get forgotten items.Plan on going back to try their non-sandwich entrees and for some more soft serve as it’s clear they have a lot of potential.

This is one of my favorite places to treat myself after a tough day of work. Prices are pretty fair for the quality of dishes and ingredients.My favorites dishes are the Mapo Tofu, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Tomato Garlic Chow Mein. I havent tried the other dishes but Im sure theyre great. The rice plate includes a house special item plus wokd veg with black beans, which is my go to when eating solo.Staff is always friendly, location is clean and inviting. Everyone I bring to this place usually likes it as well. I noticed they add and remove items but it could be a seasonal thing or to remove less popular items like the kung pao chicken or the stir fried fish dish.

We usually get dim sum next door. This time, we decided to try their chicken. We didnt feel like getting a chicken sandwich after eating dim sum, so we got their Lazi Chicken $18. It has a three chili pepper icon next to it on the menu. If you dont bite into the chili peppers, it is not hot. The chicken is a thick battered fried popcorn chicken with a nice layer of chili oil on the bottom. This was a very good dish. Good job chef at Mamahuhu.

The Zillennial answer to P*nda Exp**ss. We dined in and tried Lazi and Sweet and Sour chicken plates. On a scale from school lunch to Taiwanese popcorn chicken, the deep-fried chicken morsels on both seemed closer to Sysco than Quickly. Customer service was cheery and the design of everything from the logo to the chairs was beautiful.Perhaps our expectations were wrong from the start, but I expected a more ‘from scratch’ experience for the price.

Long lines. You order your food then look for a table. Seating is maybe 25. Booth style seating. Hamburger with no sides is $16. Its unusual but tastes good. Beverages are different. Ice cream is excellent. Thats worth buying. Other items are okay. Nothing spectacular. Almond cookies are soft. It looks like a Chinese almond cookie but tastes like an American almond cookie. I would not buy it nor do I recommended them. The egg roll isnt worth buying. Ive tasted ones much better. It taste like the ones they serve at buffets. The egg rolls did not meet my expectations.

I’ve been ordering from Mamahuhu for a year now and they usually have the best sweet and sour chicken. And it’s sad for me to leave this review But as of late, they’ve been serving up horrible, poor quality food.I ordered 2 sweet and sour chicken dishes and both of them were mostly breaded crumbs, and the few pieces of chicken they did place in there were over cooked.They are no longer the best.What happened Mamahuhu? Why such poor quality?

Incredibly good Kung Pao Chicken, with large portions and a really flavorful medley of vegetables, meat, and spices. But then they took this off the menu! Bring back the Kung Pao Chicken!!The Beef with Broccoli was pretty good, and the YOLO Cucumbers were quite exceptional, with mala (numbing hot) chilis on the top.

Highly recommend for family, friends and also solo meal! Everything was delicious, fresh! Very good food. Kung pao chicken had some spice that tasted like medicine, but it was still good. The place is not cheap: dinner for two was $89 with tip. However, you have to order from the counter and clear your own dishes. Communism but with regular restaurant prices.

I had a great experience at Mamahuhu. Loved the Red Tea cola and Kung Pao chicken plate. The cucumber salad wasn’t my favorite but my friends enjoyed it! The best part was that when I went to order and mentioned that I had a severe dairy and egg allergy, the waiter pulled out a laminated allergen menu to double-check that what I was ordering was safe for me. I can’t remember the last time I went to a stand alone restaurant that had an allergen menu! A+ and loved how quick the food came.

Can’t tell you the number of time I’ve been here. Usually such an easy an approachable place with savory food. However the manager during our experience today was extremely rude. 15 minutes in after we had ordered and at down he informed us we can’t keep our bicycles inside even though we had cautiously placed them on the side and out of the way. Secondly, we’ve been here before on longer rides and stored our bikes just fine. The manager gave us no option but to refund our meal and waste our time. He was extra rude by suggesting we can always leave the bikes outside even though we clearly didn’t have any locks and we’re taking caution to keep them on sight. This is surprising given this restaurant has sponsored cycling rides before. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.

I recommend getting the mapo tofu rice plate (with rice and veggies) and sweet and spicy chicken sandwich combo (with soup and red tea cola) if you are looking for a balanced meal for two to share and is trying out the food here for the first time. Mapo tofu is a classic and the sandwich is sort of more on the fusion side. The food was great and such a nice place to dine in too. The server recommended the rice plate instead of the full plate which was a great choice for us thank you!

These folks really know how to blend their flavors, just like their funky decor. The chicken sandwich is a crispy, sweet and spicy treat. The beef soup and soda pairing are light and refreshing. We also got the mapo tofu rice bowl which was not very spicy but really tasty. Hoped a bit more for the Sichuan pepper flavour there though, but I wont complain. Super satisfied!

Mamahuhu has decent offering but is competing with many other restaurants in the neighborhood. We have tried their entrees, appetizers, and deserts, we do not think anything really stands out, but it does get the job done. We enjoyed the Lazi chicken, and the mapo tofu (generous portion), but absolutely did not like the soft serve, maybe the banana oatmilk soft serve just isnt for us.

Saw this place on a YouTube video and really wanted to try the orange chicken fried sandwich on the pineapple bun. They were sold out since the prior day. They told me to order the chicken plate; same batter as the sandwiches. I will say that it is very sweet and excellently crispy. With a sweet bun it might be too much for my preference, but I still enjoyed it.Place is VERY pricey, particularly given portion size, but I also understand that its SF.Would still recommend.

We had lunch here, it was not good. Awful is a better descriptor. The food was about as salty as you can possibly imagine. And despite the fact that we ordered multiple dishes, they all seemed to revolve around the same flavor profile, which was drowned out by the extreme saltiness making the food almost inedible - every dish. My 11 year old son said he could not remember a time that he’s ever had a meal that he didn’t like except this one. It cost $85, we couldn’t even eat the food . What a waste.

Loved everything about Mamahuhu, from the food to the concept design. Lets start with the food.Everything was really delicious. Flavors were fragrant and subtle at the same time.The sweet and sour chicken has satisfying chunks of meaty chicken with a well balanced crunch.The beef and broccoli is to fall for, the sauce elevates the dish as a whole and the beef is well prepared, not overcooked like most other places that carry this dish.The cold noodles are actually cold (not room temperature) and the light creamy sauce surrounding them is 1) delicious and 2) keeps your noodles together so they dont slip off your chopsticks and splash your face as you bring to your mouth.Rarely featured on menus, the mapo tofu is a nice twist on the original dish. It has quite a heat kick and pairs nicely with the cold noodles. Yum!I love the concept design so much. Everything from the logo (so cute) to the dishware, the swag, tables, chopsticks, and yes, the Mamahuhu playlist that we listened to on the way back home. There is so much attention to detail.The dinning experience is meant to be casual. The interior is a mashup of a stylish American dinner with pastel colors, an Asian vibe from the dishware and the colorful art on the walls, and a bit of a taqueria vibe with the arched openings that separate the front of the house from the back.The Mamahuhu logo is lovely. Its declined in different styles. The ying-yang ducks featured on the flyer that will take you to their playlist are spot on. It also declined as an Andy Warhol-like art color-printed on the takeout paper bag (and I love the red handles). You will spot it elsewhere in various shapes and forms. Anyway, its cute and worth mentioning. 🦆

A delicious take on standard takeout fare- lots of veggies are used, even in the fried rice! They have good wines on the menu, and the dine-in booths and tables are so retro-cute! We ordered two house special combos with a broth, and the only disappointment was that the beef and broccoli only had a few pieces of beef (maybe 3 or 4.) We will go back, but we will order the entree size portion instead of the combo platter. I’ll be dreaming about the fried rice until then.

I got the lunch special with broccoli and beef. It was quite good, nothing special but you can tell its quality ingredients and fairly healthy if a bit bland. It is somewhat on the expensive side considering the amount of food you get, however I would definitely come here again for a quick meal. I will be coming back to try their fried chicken sandwich for sure. However I would look elsewhere if youre seeking more authentic cuisine.

So many options for vegans - and no skimping on flavor! The restaurant is really charming, and feels spacious even when full. I get their house specials to go on a regular basis, and they travel really well. The fried cauliflower in the Sweet + Spicy Cauliflower dish holds up perfectly, even after an hour plus in take out containers. Great as leftovers too!! They did a collaboration with Far West Cider recently, and it’s awesome. Strawberry Szechuan Peppercorn. Subtle on the peppercorn, but full of flavor. Love this place.

One sandwich could completely fit in an outstretched hand with plenty of room to spare. 14.50$ not counting tax.Friendly cashier who recommended it when I asked whats the best and most convenient thing I could walk and eat.

Ordered the lunch special which consisted of the chicken sandwich, a bowl of soup and a drink for $16. The chicken sandwich was good, but I expected a bit more seasoning inside the chicken, to reduce the reliance on any sauces.The bun is sweet and soft, and the chicken is crispy. Shredded cabbage and a tangy sauce finish the entree. The hot and sour soup was delicious and had a smooth consistency, not too thin or thick. Just right. Well done on the soup! The outdoor parklet was sunny and comfortable.

Im kind of at a loss for words on this. I was really excited to try it out for dinner since its so difficult to get a reservation at Mr. Jius. Ordered the combo plate with Kung Pao chicken and the parfait. First of all, the menu is limited and....interesting. Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour chicken. Another reviewer said it best - its like an elevated Panda Express. Im not sure if its supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but it wasnt executed well.The Kung Pao was SATURATED in Szechuan peppers. Every bite numbed my tongue, and it made the meal unpleasant. I dont have a picky palate and I never send back meals, but I couldnt get through it. Luckily the nice server Scarlett replaced it with the sweet and sour chicken. Again, not exciting but better than the Kung Pao. The parfait and the tea soda was good, and Scarlett was really helpful so Im giving it three stars. It looks like the chicken sandwich might be the way to go but I dont think its available for dinner.I guess Ill just have to wait for a Mr. Jius reservation. With all of the excellent Chinese restaurants in the area, this ones a miss.

Really fresh, delicious takes on all of those nostalgic Chinese-American dishes you grew up loving. 💛 Mamahuhu knocks it out of the park with vegan versions of all their house specials, with flavors and textures that don’t lack for anything. The smoked tofu is a particular fave, it’s in the Egg Drop Soup (so under rated!!), and the Kung Pao Tofu. They also have really great salads, which is kind of awesome - as you know, salad is not regular Chinese dish… but Mamahuhu’s takes are bright, textural, and hit all the flavor notes you crave from Chinese food.The Fried Chicken Sandwich is now available in the evening too!!!! A really tasty, very satisfying meal.I ordered online before driving over. I was quoted 20 min and it ended up being 35 when I actually got my food. I was ordering at what was likely their busiest time of the day so no big deal but I didnt like having to wait for my food in a small crowd of impatient and anxious delivery people.I got the Mapo Tofo with Pork Combo Plate. Way too salty. Please address this concern from almost 5% of your reviews point to this. It makes the food inedible.It is not normal or a good thing for a restaurant to have so many comments on too salty to eat.It’s literally a review highlight of Mamahuhu. Can you try cutting salt 50% and see how your customer responds or even see if you like it better??

I really wanted to like this place, but I’m terribly disappointed. The egg drop soup tasted like gelatin and had zero actual egg taste; the egg roll itself was fine but the sauce was super strange. I had read such rave reviews of the sweet and sour chicken but it was honestly just not good. Not giving one star because the food looks aesthetic but that’s about it.I guess I should’ve known better - the restaurant name translates to “careless” or “slapdash” in Mandarin. That’s a good reflection of the food here.

The name馬馬虎虎 is a good choice for a place cooking up “just okay” food 😂It was empty at 6pm. I asked about the sign behind the counter advertising “Wonton Wednesday”, but the staff at the counter had no idea. They were out of a couple things I wanted. You order at the counter and they bring the food out, so at first glance it my not feel special, but then, wow!The service was smart, friendly and thoughtful. The menu is big enough that, with a large group you can get almost everything.Every dish was special. The salads were vibrant and creative.The standard Chinese dishes had subtlety, and we’re well balanced. Ordered a Chrysanthemum Salad not realizing that the main ingredient was chrysanthemum stems and leaves (or would have ordered a different dish) It was absolutely DELIGHTFUL & YUMMY with celery, barely cooked cauliflower, an amazingly savory baked tofu pieces with a delicious sesame accented dressing. 1st visit about a year ago, and forgot to leave a great review! From what I recall, every food item was good. We ordered the family meal, which isnt advertised in-store, but advertised online. If you plan to come with 3-4 people, then Id suggest the family meal. The Kung pao chicken, and fried rice 🍚 were awesome 👌.Havent had spicy 🌶 & sweet chicken sandwich yet, which they serve only during lunch, so went yesterday. It was pretty good. $10, sandwich only, no side. Good balance of sweet & spicy. Downside is that the portion is small, due to using one piece thigh part of the chicken. I was expecting a breaded breast piece, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I wouldnt necessarily get it again. My guilty pleasure is B.K. (different restaurant) Premium chicken sandwich for that purpose.We also had the tomato 🍅 & garlic noodles 🍜, which was superb 😋.Try Mamahuhu with friends and order several dishes. They are tasty.

This place has a weird dichotomy going on. The Mapo tofu, fried chicken items, egg rolls, etc. are really good, but for some reason they don’t cook any of their stir fried vegetables. So you’ll get a stir fry with nice crisp chicken but basically raw bell peppers, onions, and pineapple. Why?

I came here for lunch and got the Kung pao chicken and red tea cola for about 20 dollars.It wasnt too busy when I went and my order got to me in about 5-10 minutes.The food was absolutely jawdroppingly good. It was the perfect level of spice, savory, and nutty! This place is the perfect example of Chinese-American food gone wrong. Just because you use Chinese ingredients doesn’t mean it will end up tasting anything like Chinese food. As a Chinese-American, I can confidently say you can get better food from the worst-rated traditional Chinese restaurant you know of.Food:The flavors are not balanced at all, overpowering and one-note. Vegetables were soaked in oil and tasted charred. Palate is overwhelmed in 1 bite.Mapo tofu: okay, but literally just tastes like salt and spice. Nothing else. Most edible dish.Chicken sandwich: greasy, impossible to eat cleanly, sickly sweet with thick, thick breading. Pineapple bun would have been better on its own.Cucumber: okay-ish, but somehow they made a cold dish greasy and overpowering.Egg roll: filling is mushy, sauce is gloopy and sweet.Service:They forgot 2 of our dishes somehow. The vegetables were crisp and fresh and had a (unique to me) fermented black bean topping. Took my 77 yo Cantonese mom here for lunch. She was really impressed with the dishes. The sweet and sour pork is really crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Thats very difficult to do. The sauce is very tasty. The vegetables in the beef with broccoli are cooked perfectly, just bright green and still crisp. There is a lot of flavor in the dish, but its not swimming in oil. And then the highest praise: I could not have made these dishes better myself. I would not tell her what the bill was, though, LOL!
