Definitely going to be a new favorite! I got the cubano sandwich which is filled with with pulled pork and my side was Puerto Rican rice! My fiance got the jerk chicken over coconut rice with black beans! Both dishes were delicious!

This is a restaurant that Manteca deserves! Everything was so flavorful from the rice to the flautus and empanadas. The besr time to come is during their happy hour which ranges from 3-6 on the weekdays and 2-5 on the weekends and bring a some of your friends and or family and share some tapas! We need more restaurants like this in Manteca that just does excellent job with quality, service, and food with different cultural background.
The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but the food is delicious, the servers and host are friendly and helpful. Their vegetarian menu is quite limited but what they did have was so good.They do not have fresh squeezed lemonade but we’re glad we decided on the sangria.Can’t beat the service nor the food.

This restaurant is definitely worth a trip! My son had the Jerk Chicken with coconut rice and mango salad. The chicken had the perfect amount of spice and was deliciously seasoned. My husband got the Mama’s Combo with empanadas and flautas. He raved about the flautas! I got the vegan plate, and it amazing and filling! The family that owns and runs the restaurant were so welcoming, and the service was fast.
Fantastic food. Try the plantains, you wont be sorry. I had the Jamaican jerk chicken seasoned wings, perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside, fully cooked but still moist on the inside. My wife had a Cuban, zero complaints. Atmosphere was fun. We all had house mixed drinks. All good, but nothing impressive and also a bit light on the alcohol. Great beer selection though, just wasnt in a beer mood. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Overall Id call it an 8/10 rounded up to 5/5.
The food is to die for!! Everything was so good we didn’t have a single thing we didn’t like. It doesn’t matter what your order because everything is 10/10! We came because we were craving some Puerto Rican food from our recent vacation there and I think the food was better here than it was there. Will definitely come again!!
Being new to the area I found this place online and they did not disappoint. My favorites are the Jamaican me crazy fries, jerk chicken bowl, and beef empanadas. There are so many items on the menu to sample, also its a great place to hangout with family and friends. Great service, and friendly staff, theyre conveniently located next to everything. Really incredible food, I was raised on my grandmothers Cuban cooking and so Caribbean food is close to my heart. The tostones are delicious, food is all spiced well, balanced flavors, very well done. Though let me tell you, the absolute best thing on the whole menu is the bread pudding. This is one of my guilty pleasures, and this may be the best I have ever had.
First time coming here and the food was delicious! Service was wonderful although they got very busy soon after we arrived. Regardless their service was quick and apologized for the delay. Will come back to try other plates soon!

I like this restuarant and at least each 2 weeks I get a meal from there but today I went in at around 5:02pm for take out as the last hour its only take out. I ordered food at a price of $91 to have for my sons birthday. I stay 10 minutes away. Got home and most of my food was cold as in ice cold. The burger was still half frozen, the cannon balls were cold and not fully cooked on the inside. Chicken flaunts was cold on the inside and the fries were soggy. I threw away all the food. I heard the cook mouth off saying dont tell them 30 minutes well they just lost a good customer.
First time customers.We were greeted with friendly smiles and clean environment, which made a very nice first impression.That said...Unfortunately, my husband’s jerk chicken wings were less than room temp (hot food is best) and although I liked the flavor of my shrimp tacos, the corn shells were rubbery.What was most memorable for us, was the kind greeter.
Great food. Had the Mammas combo. Food was fresh and crispy and salad was green. Pork filling was on point. Beans and rice where awesome. Cleaned my plate and beer was cold. I sat at the bar and service was great, servers changed while I ate, and they had to curtesy to let me know.
Just cant say enough good things about this place. Food was delicious. I tried a little bit of a lot of items and all were delicious. Most foods on menu seem to be fried so be prepared to be a fatty. I personally ordered the Cubano. So delicious and filling.
Service is quick and friendly, and the food is terrific! There arent any others of this type of restaurant around our area, and we lucked out that this one is so good. Price is good for the large portions, too! Rate it 5 out of 5 stars!

The food was great! It was something different to eat. The food was flavorful. I had gotten a beef and a pork meat empanada plate with rice and salad. My favorite was the beef empanada. My sister had the vegan empanada and loved the taste. The rice was full of flavor and the condiments were just right. I hope to go again, since I was just visiting for the time being. :)

After reading all of the reviews for this place I had to give it a try. Let me first start with the negative since they are few and easily fixed. I went here with my wife, daughter, father, brother, and sister. When we first sat down there was no silverware at the table and we had to ask for them otherwise I dont believe we would have received any. Also, it took a bit before anyone came by to take our orders and we were clearly ready with our selections. Thats about it. Our server was very polite, I just wish we would have seen him more often and that he would have told us his name but he was definitely a bright spot in a fairly busy night.The positives have to begin with the food. It was all delicious. We had the sweet plantains, the Caribbean burger (and sliders), cannon balls, chicken flautas, beef empanadas, a pork empanada, the cubana sandwich, and coconut rice. So there was a bit of a wait but that was perfectly acceptable to us because of the amount of food we ordered. It all came out to us hot and fresh. I would recommend the sweet plantains the highest since we had 4 orders and nothing left of them by the end of the night. I do not recommend the black beans though, way too watery.I enjoyed the atmosphere, it is pretty casual and non intimidating which is always great in my opinion. The menus were simple and easy to read. The Caribbean Rum Punch was the only alcoholic drink we ordered and my wife really enjoyed it. I had to drive so I just had Dr. Pepper.It is a cool little place, and I could see us coming here 1 to 2 times a month because it is a bit on the pricier side of things. I would say that most menu items warrant the cost, since the sauces are brilliant and we left full and satisfied.One last note though is I wish they had more dessert options! 5 stars hands down! My go to place every Friday for lunch! The food is delicious (no matter what you order), the staff is the best, and the vibe is chill. What more can you ask for...You will not be disappointed! And when I mean will not, I mean WILL NOT be disappointed! Be prepared for a food coma!

Mamas and The Tapas Cafe is a must! I was referred to visit this place for some great Caribbean food, and let me tell you, I was shocked to find out that this place with such great food existed in Manteca. Mamas and The Tapas offers a variety of a great tasting food, and the atmosphere at this restaurant is great! I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to many others. This place has potential to be really good. The empenadas were a bit to fried, but everything else is delicious. The jerk chicken and the maduros are delicious. The place is order and pay first and then the food is brought to the table. One last thing, I am not a fan of coconut, so if there was a none coconut rice option that would be great.
Loved it! Got the mamas special. Comes with rice and beans and either 2 empanadas (pork, beef or veggie) for 2 chicken flaunts OR 1 of each. I had 1 of each. Due to covid, u CAN eat inside but your food comes in to go boxes. I didnt mind that much, my food was already packed when I needed to leave.
I ordered the chicken wings with a draft beer. This is Mantecas best kept secret! While sitting at their cool bar I saw incredible food going out. This place will not be a secret for long. Great hospitality, great food, great value.

I was the first customer of the day, their restroom was not clean. My water cup was not clean, the soda machine wasnt ready for use. The vegan meal was decent, but it was my first restaurant vegan food so I have no references. $22 for my meal and my husbands salad and a soda.

Staff rolling eyes accusing my daughter of not ordering correctly, when the eyerolling waitress is clearly incompetent of hearing as well.Stating why did you eat the chicken than say it was not your meal. Been here many times and with Covid they need local support more then ever. You can now dine in Covid style or get take out. Lets help keep our local places in business during these times. This place is pretty good. There is no other place that is close to Puertorican food. This place is pretty decent. As a Boricua I appreciate that they have a few things that I love, like Empanadillas(they are not called empanadas btw) but they are pretty good and the Cuban sandwich and the sweet plantains. It is kinda funny though that they serve the arroz con gandules with beans on the side. We dont really do that.
Excellent Puerto Rican food. Almost as good as my moms! Our new family favorite restaurant. Would love to have pasteles but speaking from a lifetime of experience - a lot of work! You will not leave disappointed.
I make it a point to try a restaurant at least twice before determining if it is even worthy of a review. Unless its so bad you have to warn others... Its a civic duty! Mamas and the Tapas Cafe is unique in the Manteca restaurant scene, and I welcome the new flavorful items on their menu. The pulled pork sliders were very flavorful, but were removed from the menu by my second visit. Coconut rice and black beans were more flavorful my first visit. Not at all on the second. The Puerto Rican rice is nice! The jerk chicken tacos are unique and flavorful. I forget the name of the meat, cheese, pickle, mustatd, slider, but they were also very good. That is until they get cold, so dont let them sit too long. The vegetable empanadas were liked by me more than my son. Prices are higher than expected and both visits, even at happy hour time, we were charged full menu price. Flavor of menu items - 4 1/2 stars. Menu prices - 2 1/2 stars. Service - 2 stars. Restaurant ambiance - 2 1/2 stars. The flavor saves this place. Im hopeful with time, they will improve in other aspects.

This place is seriously a hidden gem. The owner is always very friendly and the food is great. Fair prices as well. I brought a Puerto Rican friend of mine here from the island and he was quite impressed with the authenticity.Check this place out.
Food was not good. They did not have certain foods available. The black beans were not fully cooked. It said 6 chicken flautas and they gave us 4 each. We did not say anything gor it was my brothers bday. We just ate what we could and left. But would never go back

So this is my first time trying the tomato soup and grilled cheese and omfggg this is the best tomato soup I have ever had! I try them everywhere I go and they all taste like trash but not this one! Delicious!!!!! Also, the veggie empanadas and shrimp tacos are to die for!!!! The service is always amazing and fast! Ashleigh (I think that’s how she spells it, sorry if I messed it up!) the beer choices are yummy and the pictures on the walls are my favorite part. Food, fun and family. Nothing beats that.
We visited this place with the intend of eating some hispanic food. The food was very little and the prices are too high for Manteca,CA. Who in their right mind deepfry a bread-pudding...worse desert ever, dont try it! All in all a party of 2 cost about $50 and the food isnt that good. They do have good customer service and nice Spanish music, but thats all I found appealing.
Delicious! The Puerto Rican rice was genuine as full of flavor, the Cannon Balls were stuffed with well seasoned meat filling and fried to a golden crisp. Everything we tried was excellent. Well definitely come back.

On Friday, October 16, in the early afternoon I called to see how late mamas and tapas was taking to go order over the phone. I was told by a man that the restaurant closes at 7pm but customers could place to go orders until 7pm. At 6pm I called multiple times and kept getting a busy signal. I decided to drive down to mamas and tapas to place an order. Right as I was about to touch the restaurant door handle a man from behind from the counter ran up to the door inside the restaurant and closed it on me. The door was locked. It was before 7pm. Why was I told I could place an order until 7pm if that was not the case?This is not the first time I’ve been treated poorly. Back in June, I called a hour before the restaurant was closing. I asked to place a to go order and while I was talking I was cut off and told they were no longer taking to go orders. In the middle of asking if I can come to the restaurant to place an order in person I was hung up on.

The quality of the food was good with the exception that they put pork in almost everything. They put pork in the rice and pork in the Spanish beans. food should be able to stand on its own without having to throw pork in it. The empanadas and flautas were okay although a bit heavy

Im Cuban and I was more than satisfied with the Cuban sandwich. The only deviation from the original recipe was the siracha aioli but it was a great idea.
Jerked chicken tacos were great! Jerked chicken wings not so much. They kind of tasted like sweet and sour wings with a little heat.

Very personable and true service with a smile.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾Much better than i expected.whenever i see fusion i lower my expectations. I was really surprised with this place though. I got the combo and really enjoyed it.the empanadas were flavorful, the coconut rice had good flavor and wasnt sticky or soggy. My husband got the jerk chicken and i thought it was good. They got the flavor without the spice. Even though i like my jerk chicken with some kick, it was still tasty.

2021-07-26 14:10:10First time eating here. So we tried a small variety on the menu. The Jamaican Me Crazy Fries were to die for! A meal in itself. The Cannon Ball (Yucca Relleno) were excellent. Crispy & Savory The Beef Empanda were also excellent the beef filling has perfect amount of spice that gives it a nice kick. We will definitely come back for some Excellent Food.

2021-06-18 20:38:56Only my second time at this place and I am in love with Cuban Tapas cuisine. The empanadas and flautas were too die for. Their coconut rice and black beans fills in any space left with deliciousness.Kudos for the excellent service. They work hard at Mamas and Tapas. Despite being under staffed they had it under control. We never felt neglected.Try the Tropical Bavarian Betty cake. You will be glad you did.

2021-10-14 09:39:24Cubano Sandwich + Sweet Plantains. The mustard and char on the ham prevented me from tasting the Garlic Sriracha Aioli. But I ate the whole thing, so it wasnt a bad sandwich. The char on the Plantains was kinda nice. Bananas were sweet and tangy. Tropical Bavarian Betty dessert (on in-house menu) -- white cake with Bavarian cream, crushed pineapple, whip cream, toasted coconut (according to menu). I did not taste toasted coconut. And I forgot there was cake involved because it was lost somewhere in the middle of the Parfait-style dessert. Even though I ate the whole thing, I kept thinking, if only there were chopped pecans on top... But thats just me.Mamma was all over the customer service. Daughter (?)/Not the mamma lost her focus even moreso after her son and boyfriend arrived. Mammas and the Tapas regulars and first-timers like me where there. The dining area was filling up. Take-out orders were coming and going also. I sat at the bar. I do not recommend you do this if you want to be in the thick of it all.Everyone was friendly. I will go back. There are several more items on the menu Id like to try.P.S., I just realized I wasnt charged for the Arnold Palmer that the Not the mamma served me. Feel free to add it on my next bill. Cheers!

2019-01-17 21:00:05Man didnt really know what to expect here but I was blown away by the taste. Its looks like a lot but the food is surprisingly light and filling. The sauce on the foods has a little kick to it which was great. Nice place and very friendly staff. the price was about average.

This family restaurant (Im assuming from all the family pictures on the wall) has some of the best tapas in town!To be honest, all dishes we tried were delicious!*Cannon Ball (Yucca Relleno) - 5 big stars! Fried yucca balls stuffed with seasoned ground beef and chorizo. If you like Potato Balls from Portos Barkery (a Cuban bakery chain in LA), you MUST give these a try when they are fresh. Its like an upgraded potato ball drizzled with Sriracha aioli (if I may say so).*Jerk Chicken Salad - 4.5 stars. This is one of the best salads Ive had this year. Fresh green with cucumber, tomato, mango salsa with lime cilantro vinegerette, and a super generous portion of tender jerk chicken*Cubano sliders - 4 stars. Mini slider with pork shoulder, thinly sliced ham topped with melted Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. The best part of the grilled cheese skirt, which melted together with the meat. Oh mine it was delicious.*Jerk Chicken Wings - 3.5 stars. $12 for a dozen wings is a great deal. The sauce wasnt my favourite because it had a lot of ginger. But my fiance enjoyed the jerk sauce a lot.Overall, this place has some of the best Cuba/Puerto Rican/Caribbean food Ive ever tried. I almost dont want more people to know about it. Just kidding, great food must be shared.
