Manuels was a great as we remember it. Super busy, even on a Sunday evening. Great staff, attentive service, ice cold beer and delicious house margaritas. Food arrived pronto and HOT! Right amount of house spices and fresh ingredients served in large portions. Where others are cutting back, Manuels isnt. Will be BACK!

Very cute restaurant with nice and quiet Mexican music. The guacamole side is delicious. Service is prompt and very friendly. Decorations are also “immersive”. They had their 50 years anniversary in 2016. Recommended as a great stop after a good beach walk - portions are large and filling but definitely delicious!

Ill start off with the positives :) The service was fantastic. The servers were super friendly and attentive. Its super cute inside and very lively if thats what youre going for. The food was terrible. The chicken on my nachos had zero flavor. My nachos were a mound of thick cheese and flavorless chicken. There were hardly any chips. I was honestly worried about choking on the cheese. The other dishes at our table were the same. This was my second try coming back to this place and it was my last.

2nd time was even better!If you ever visit Seacliff Beach, you have to stop at Manuelsfor a bite to eat or a tasty margarita. Seated right away, waitresses are so sweet and on point with service. Ordered chicken nachos, and it was fantastic! Very quite, and intimate setting youll love the atmosphere this restaurant brings.

Excellent dining! We were in town for our nephews game. Hunger strikes after a Win so naturally we looked for food, and because it was an evening game, the restaurant must be open late. Manuels fit all of the requirements. We have a young family so we were happy to find its location to be ideal. The staff combined a couple of tables to accommodate our party of 8. Not only were we treated like new friends to the table, but DAYUM! We all were blown away with the delicious late dinner we consumed! Everyone, from 6 y.o. to 46 y.o., left the restaurant with fully bellies. I, honestly, look forward to our next visit.

I was torn between leaving 4 or 5 stars. The food was really tasty--we shared nachos and an Enchilada plate. In addition (and quite important in my book), was the fact that we were able to eat there at 11pm! Everything else in the area was shutting down, but this place was hopping with really nice candlelit atmosphere. Prices were pretty standard for the area, so no complaint there. The reason for one lost star was that the Margarita was far too sweet and fairly weak. The beer selection is pretty limited too other than bottles of Mexican beer. All in all, well definitely go back, especially for the late night splurge.

Hidden gem in Aptos/Seacliff. The food was legit. Wife got the special (pictured) of giant, bacon wrapped prawns. I got the Chile Relleno with Beef Enchilada combo. The beef was shredded and tender, not ground. The Chile Relleno batter was a bit too fluffy/eggy but still great. Her Camarones were perfectly cooked and delicious. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was nice but the lighting was quite dark, such that walking outside felt jarring. Service was great until our waitress left without telling us or handing off our table to other wait staff. Once they were alerted however, great service again. The special came with ice cream and we asked for the Mexican Chocolate. This was off the hook. Cinnamon and milk chocolate blended with lots of dark chocolate chunks. I asked if it was made in-house or if it came from Mariannes across the street. They said Mariannes, so our first stop after the meal was to pickup a pint of this! Unfortunately, Mariannes said the version they sold didnt have the dark chocolate chunks; this was added by Manuels. So I passed on the pint but well be back to Manuels again for sure!

This place proves that good service and good food earns a well deserved reputation! First time here and as soon as I sat down (at the bar) I was kindly greeted and presented with chips and salsa. And not the basic eatery kind but professionally made, dense and flavorful!! Ordered the burrito plate from the a la carte menu and I was so thrilled that though it wasn’t a “super burrito” the real ingredients made for a delicious flavor that felt homemade. Everyone was so kind and the food then check came promptly despite being visibly quite busy. A+ and an easy recommendation! 👌🙏

This is a very popular Mexican restaurant that has been around for over 50 years. We went on a Friday night and the place was absolutely packed. The service was impacted due to the crowd but everyone was attentive and nice. We ordered a chicken enchilada, cheese enchilada, beef burrito, and bean burrito. All 4 orders were delicious, especially the enchilada sauce. Would definitely recommend.

Its always worth the wait. Its a small restaurant but you can not go wrong with the food. Each time it never disappoints. We recommend the daily specials they run out fast. No flaws here. Big plus is that they are open late and in aptos thats a plus when you eat dinner past 8.

First time eating at Manuel’s. I really enjoyed the romantic settings, it was not super bright inside, it was dim and we had a candle lit at our table. Loved that. The staff was prompt at getting our drinks, we ordered our food shortly after. The wait time for our meal was not long at all. I ordered the Chile Colorado plate with rice and beans. He ordered the Chile Verde plate. Both were amazing. Great flavor and the tortillas were nice and warm. Plenty of food to take home. Had my leftover meal for lunch the next day :)

I had dinner here yesterday and got the guacamole for starter which had cheese on it so those who are intolerant should specify no cheese on the guacamole. The Guacamole was good. I had the special of the day Chicken Enchilada with a fantastic mole sauce and came with a unique salad that had garbanzo beans on it and a unique dressing, unique and surprisingly went well together. The enchilada was fantastic and was a large portion. The special also included ice cream. I chose the mango-banana which was as delicious as it sounds. I usually go with chocolate as a default but this was worth the change for the night and finished off the spice of the entre very well. The service was great overall, they were quick to take care of things(keep drinks full, clean up plates as you finish, check in to see if you need anything else). They all seemed to work as a team on never did anyone tell me they needed to get my server to help me. Whoever I asked just took care of it. Great! I was told this is the best Mexican place in Santa Cruz for traditional food, I dont know if it is yet, but it will definitely be tough to beat and is definitely a favorite restaurant of mine now in this town as a must visit for anyone looking for great Mexican food. Im very picky with Mexican food and this place definitely makes the grade.

Few places with indoor seating during covid days. Pretty authentic vibe which you would find in the food flavors too. Good standard menu options including margaritas. If you are a strict vegetarian then you may want to check with them first for options e.g. they didnt have veggie fajitas or veggie taco salad. Otherwise if you are in town then definitely worth a visit.

Manuels has been a staple in the community for over 58 years. The food is authentic and very tasty. The pictures of margaritas is the way to go for 2 or more people. You get huge portions for your money, so be ready to take some leftovers home with you. Everything is 10 out of 10!

This has been a long time coming..Been going to this place the last few years and EVERY SINGLE TIME its EXCELLENT! What stands out the most to me is their service, and they way they hustle! They genuinely care about their customers and they dont charge for sides like jalapenos or extra little cup of salsa, unlike the other mexican restaurant in Scotts Valley. To top it off the food here is amazing! and large portions! You have to try this place out, you wont regret it

Update: Since Covid Manuels has done their best to make everyone safe and comfortable. And still the amazing food and happy wonderful staff. Our favorite restaurant ever, for sure!*I was shocked to see a few people score Manuels with a zero! But after reading them, I can see that they were just unhappy, uptight people. No, Manuels does not have Cilantro. They are NOT Baja style. The food is wonderful without it, no worries. Yes, it is always busy and there is a wait even with a reservation, but everyone knows this and it is worth it! They have many many loyal customers. The food is great! The staff is busy but helpful and fun. So, if you dont like it, dont come. They will be fine without you. But why not just sit back, chill out and enjoy!

I havent been here in many years, it was fantastic and exactly as I remembered. I arrived right at their opening time and was second person seated. Covid precautions were in force the whole time I was there.Water with chips and salsa were promptly delivered. I ordered my lunch and it took about 6 minutes for my extremely hot plate to be delivered. The food was delicious and the wait staff were very attentive the whole time. Everything was extremely tasty.The staff notified us when opening that the outside patio was closed due to staffing issues.If you have to wait, do it.... Its well worth it.

This place was amazing! We order to go for a big group. When we got there to place the order everyone was so kind and helpful. While we waited we stood by the bar and enjoyed 2 killer margaritas with fresh chips and salsa. Manuels has been a local establishment for many years. I know people that travel 10 to 15 miles just to enjoy their food. Its not taqueria style, its a sit-down experience for sure. For instance their burritos are not chock full of all the ingredients you would expect from a taqueria burrito, but they are out of this world good (be aware that a full order is actually two smaller burritos and a half order is one). Portions are large fresh and very tasty.I love the ambiance, its always busy and it has great mood lighting. Fun for a medium-sized group or a couple who can find a quiet table in a dark corner.

I just got off a plane for 5 hours, and am starting a 4 hour drive to go to Manuels for dinner. Which I used to call Mannys. After 45 years of eating at all of their locations, there is no Mexican restaurant anywhere in the world that I would recommend any higher. You want the best entree? Open the menu and pick something. Its all amazing. Family recipes that take you straight to their home. Phe-freaking-nomenal margaritas, beer selection as impressive as the food, yeah good. And most impressive is the service. Flawless, warm, genuine, and welcoming. Im endorsing at least two generations of Manuels in the strongest possible terms. Go there and be delighted. Just dont get in my way, ima jonesing.

First visit to this little gem. We had driving all the way to whole enchilada, a perennial favorite, and they closed early and pissed us off. We googled other spots and viola! So stoked on this spot. My girlfriends and I decided to dine here after reading all the positive reviews and although we had high expectations, we were still stunned with how excellent the service was. We were a bit obnoxious arriving over an hour late for our reservation but the staff was SO cool and attentive (thats not how restaurants are in SF where Im from, lol). Well what can I say about this place,well out off all the places weve eaten at so far on our Californian road trip this place has to be the best.We got there at 6 and had to come back at 6-30 for our table and when we did there were queues inside and out. We were shown to our table by a very friendly member of staff. When the food came out it was excellent and everyone in our group enjoyed it. This place has the finest Mexican food we have ever had,one word of advice is to book a table because its so popular. All in all the food was great and the staff were very happy and the bill was reasonable $85 for 4 people with drinks

When I go to a new Mexican restaurant, I always order cheese enchiladas as a benchmark to see how they can handle the most basic items. If they are good I go back and try other foods.I have to say that not only were the enchiladas good, they were stellar. The rice and beans sides were also top notch. Looking forward to going back to Manuels again to try more food. Great service as well.

Been going here for over 40 years, since I was small.The one thing I love about this place, is that it is still owned by the same family, from 1st to 3rd generation? Anyway, fond memories, but that is all I can offer at this time. We went back this past weekend to have a nice lunch, just as we have been doing for years...but the food was tasteless and watery-especially for a chicken Tostada, it had more lettuce that a rabbit could handle! The service was great, but overcrowded, crammed with tables and just not the same...well, at least I got my memories!

I’m beyond stuffed with the most delicious Mexican I’ve ever had in my LIFE. Keep in mind, I just traveled here from Tijuana. Please order the #5, my friend brought me here who has been ordering the same thing for 15+ years, so naturally I had to follow suit. I told our server to tell the kitchen my glorifying review and she actually brought out 2 of the chefs so I could thank them myself!!! This is equivalent to meeting a celebrity and I am so full of gratitude. As someone who served for 10 years, it is important to let the kitchen know when you love their food because they put their soul into it! Ehh. I’ve heard good things from other customers, but was quite underwhelmed. Took a while to be seated (not an issue, it was a Saturday, just pointing out that you will likely wait). Staff was super friendly and helpful in explaining how their menu works, but food was not great. I ate every bite, but was left with the feeling that there could’ve been more involved in my meal. The burrito ($12) is just meat and sauce, and adding anything else like beans is extra. Price of the meal was honestly pretty good and the chicken was so juicy, but simple things lacked flavor. And I’ve never been to an authentic Mexican restaurants where olives are used as a garnish. And the salsa tasted like it was from a jar. Very good flautas though!

This was my first time there. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere, its not a large building, so the seating is pretty cramped, its dimly lit, so you may have to use your phone light to see the menu. Overall, great service, great food, and would definitely recommend!!

So they have great food and a great atmosphere but they have some of the worst price gauging I have ever seen. The most popular items on the menu are drastically more expensive even though their ingredients are not much different. Specifically the Carne Asada Taco combination plate is $10 more than any other combination plate strictly because it is the most popular item, and that is why my rating is 2 stars and not 5. 5 stars will be awarded once the prices are normalized, until then it remains 2 stars.

The service was amazing, with chips, salsa and water on the table before we finished sitting. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The menu didnt offer molcajete or mention the meat choices. (There were pork tamales only, and no carnitas.) Our only dislike was the margaritas. A strawberry margarita was served with a cherry in it, and a house margarita tasted bitter. But the full bar is a plus, so there are many other libations available. We will be back, well just skip the margaritas.

We stayed in Aptos this weekend for a mini vacation and being right down the street from Manuels, we had to check it out. They stay open until midnight and we ordered around 9:30 pm. They told us our food would be ready in about 10 minutes and when I arrived 15 mintues after the ordered was placed, sure enough it was ready. Not only that but there were so many people in the restuarant that I knew it was going to be great otherwise they wouldnt be open so late. The service was excellent, even for takeout. I noticed they had jars of their salsa for sale on the bar counter and on a leap of faith, I purchased one to take home. Let me tell you, I was definitely NOT disappointed. The food was excellent and the salsa was the best I have had. I will definitely be back next time we are in the area. I want the whole dine in experience since the atmosphere was so welcoming.On another note, even though we ordered takeout, we always tip. Sometimes people dont tip on takeout orders but the service earn it as they still have to make sure your order is boxed correctly. Our bill for 2 meals plus the bottle of salsa was only $26. We left the sever/bartender a $9 tip. I wish I remembered his name but we came on Saturday 8/27/22. Thank you so much for tasty food.

It’s a trap. I don’t know how this place has more than 1k reviews averaging 4.5 stars. Maybe they recently changed ownership?The meat selection was very disappointing because the only options are beef, chicken and angus..you cannot chose among the classics (pastor, asada, carnitas, pollo, etc). When asked whether they serve pastor, the waiter seemed not even understanding my question. I took 3 beef tacos, and the meat was very bad, felt like pulled beef but very heavy and greasy. Additionally they serve tacos with a black olive on top, maybe to make it look fancier, but the result was an additional off taste to the taco. The service was also quite rude and unavailable. On top of it, it is quite pricey! I won’t go there again.

The food is fantastic, as is the service; despite them always being busy, theres always plenty of fresh made chips and salsa supplied to the table, and water is always topped off. Everyone who works here is friendly, smiling and welcoming.Saturdays tend to be busy but the Saturday special is my absolute favorite; basically some juicy, delicious bacon wrapped shrimp in a taco bowl with rice and beans. It comes with a small salad (with guacamole, so if you love avocados its with a try), tea or coffee, and dessert (my favorite being the Mexican chocolate ice cream.)Its also open later than most places in Santa Cruz.Ive been here plenty of times over the years and never had a bad experience. Its good and consistent and I definitely recommend it.There are only two down sides: it can get very busy, (unsurprising considering how good it is) so youll probably want reservations, especially over weekends. Also because its so busy it can get crowded and loud. Not much they can do about it, but is youre bothered by that you probably want to try coming by earlier or later. Its still very much worth a visit!

This place is the place to go if you want great food, amazing service, an awesome environment at reasonable prices. we did have our dedicated server but every other server in the restaurant was checking our table and bringing us whatever we needed. it was like a well-oiled machine / assembly line. Id gove them 6 stars if i could.

Manuels is my favorite restaurant in the world, period. I have been going to eat there consistently for the past four years. The staff are personable, friendly and outgoing. They are always there to make sure you have enough chips and salsa and water. The atmosphere is cozy and on a busy night somewhat noisy, which ads to the traditional feel. Friday-Sunday make sure to get your reservation or wait outside under the heat lamps or next door at the bar.My favorite plate: The number nine, Cheese enchiladas. Tons of food, cheesy enchiladas, enough rice and beans to make yourself a burrito if you ask for a corn or flour tortilla.

I have been here more than 20 times since the early 1990s. The service, the food, and the atmosphere are the reasons I keep returning. I have never had a bad experience here and have since turned more people on to this location. Definitely my favorite restaurant on the coast!

If you like Americanized Mexican food then this place is for you.My main go to dish is the nachos. Its big enough to share. Today I got the chicken Quesadilla con todo and it was very delicious. Most of the food is pretty good and I know a lot of people that frequent this place once or twice a week.They also make good margaritas as well.

I went there for the first time and I ordered the chili verde with rice and beans. The chili verde was lacking in the flavor Im used to. I found it was bland except for the salsa and that was really good so I poured it over everything and that helped. The food wasnt bad as far as quality goes. If I go back I would try something else to give a fair rating.

This place is awesome. Wish it was bigger so the wait times could be lower but at the same time its nice being smaller. Waiters are very fast and attentive to the table and the food is something we always make to go back for more than just a casual occasion but that is just because of the wait times that can happen due to it being small.I dont care, will still wait for Manuels!

Service was 5 stars, it’s was very busy and crowded inside and we had to wait an hour for the table but the service made up for it. You won’t leave hungry but it’s a pretty standard menu, nothing fancy.
