Great location just across the street from the ocean and easy walking to the south to aquarium and cannery row (5-10 mins), or to the north to lovers point (15-20 mins). For anyone seeking a charming bed-n-breakfast experience, this is a very good choice. All the decor / art work / furniture is from another era and adds to the experience. Hot breakfast and afternoon light happy hour (dining room overlooks the ocean) and parking included. Room had its own bathroom, though sink was in the room (not in the bathroom itself). Friendly service was great. Would definitely stay here again.
This is my favorite place to stay on the peninsula! The breakfast is always phenomenal and the atmosphere is charming. I have had the pleasure of staying in the Carriage House and the Edith Head room. They were both stunning and comfortable. The staff is A+ and is always on hand for assistance.As a bonus, I can guarantee that this place ia not haunted. I am a paranormal investigator and you have my ghostbuster guarantee.
The Martine Inn/B&B is an historic, interesting Inn with a great location and stunning views. There is lots of good walking in both directions.The staff is very competent, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast is lovely as is the Happy Hour snack. Our bed was comfortable.The Inn is sprawling with a courtyard, ping pong, pool table and a piano. It has loads of charm.4 instead of 5 because it needs some TLC and more comfortable chairs in the TV room, sitting areas and in some of the bedrooms. If you don’t mind charm over practicality, this may not bother you but since we had a fairly long stay there, an update to some of the furniture and conveniences in the room would be welcome.
Great location, amazing service and an overall beautiful stay. The inn is vintage and very clean; antiquated in some areas, but to be expected and enjoyed. Free appetizers and wine in the evening, free breakfast in the morning. There was something wrong with the radiator in our room, so management gave us a free upgrade to one of the top-tier rooms. The two men working on 4/16/22 (James and Jeremy I think?) deserve a raise — their service was THAT good!
Great stay! Perfect weekend getaway. Ideal location right in front of the ocean, comfortable rooms (even though they are obviously from the past century), clean facilities. Breakfast was superb. Staff very friendly. Parking was great too! There even is a piano in case you play! Highly recommendable place :)
Comfortable weekend stay, loved the views and atmosphere of the property. Yes, the rooms were dated; theyre meant to be and worked just fine. Great breakfast service! Parking in the hotel lot can get a little crowded, but you can also park on Ocean View, or even on 4th - theres a side door with keypad access into the hotel courtyard.
Our room had a perfect view of the waves crashing against The Rocky Shore. As we sat with our complimentary wine and snacks four deer came up to the window and ate the grasses in the yard. Along the shore there were sea lions basking in the sand. We were told they were just about to give birth.The common area on the first floor also has a very wide view of the sea. A big breakfast made to order with table service was served there with fresh baked muffins or Apple bread every morning.Its a charming Victorian home built in 1899, furnished with antiques a billiards table and even a grand piano.A Pedestrian/ bike path leads to downtown or Cannery row and in the other direction is a monarch butterfly refuge.The stack seem to always be available to help us with anything we needed. It was a very charming and romantic three nights stay.
Wonderfully friendly and accommodating staff. The location could not be better. Parking was never an issue. The breakfast and wine hour were fantastic. I stayed in the cottage room above the vintage car garage. The curtains must be replaced. To raise and lower, each morning and night, the curtains must be manually turned. This takes a minute of so for each. Its a little tedious when your on vacation. The other issue was the pile of garbage below the large window. Due to the trash pile, flies would constantly enter the room if any window was open.
We booked this hotel during Monterey Car Week expecting it to be a low grade hotel considering the price. We were very wrong. Not only did we have an oceanfront view every morning we woke up, but the service here is the best weve had at any hotel during Monterey Car Week. If you love to stay at quaint Inns with an old time feel, this is your place. They had no TVs in the room which we actually enjoyed. The game room was fun. Their afternoon wine bar and cheese was great and the breakfast was amazing.
I really wanted to like the Martine Inn but at $329/night…it just wasn’t worth the money. It’s a grand old building but we found it a bit worn and thread bear. We spent two nights in the Carriage Room in July 2022. Here are our observations:* The room had a musty smell indicative of the need for a good spring cleaning. It wasn’t that is was dirty, but the carpet and drapes needed cleaning (dusty and stained).* The room was filled with lovely antiques but there was too much furniture, making it difficult to maneuver. For example, there was a fire place which we never would have lit since the chairs in front were way too close. It was a total fire hazard. Since the room was so small, there was no place to move them to.* The King bed had a beautiful antique headboard and footboard. Since it was a headboard was a double (they didn’t have large beds back in the day), the headboard was secured to the wall. We didn’t have an issue with that…it was the way it was secured…with an eyebolt and wire. Come on folks…You can do better than that.* The toilet bowl was loose and creaked terribly when you sat on it.* The room door was glass (very pretty) but there was a light directly outside that was turned on at night. Don’t misunderstand…I get the need for the light but it lit up the inside of the room like it was daylight, making it difficult to sleep.* The breakfast was mediocre at best. We ordered the crepes which were rubbery, lukewarm, and looked like canned fruit.* The appetizers for the wine/cocktail hour sat on the table for hours prior to the event. The simply looked old. We didn’t touch them.* The grounds and plants looked tired. I’d be embarrassed if my yard looked like that. The external grounds above the car parking area and around the walkway needed weeding. Definitely not four stars.On the positive side, the inn is in a wonderful location and close to everything. I just wish “elegance” still described it.
Outstanding views of the Pacific Ocean. Inside is a wonderful authentic Victorian Inn with 25 rooms. $$$$ includes gourmet breakfast, unique each day. The wine and cheese snack was disappointing with low quality wine and small amounts of tasteless cheese. They can do much better for the high prices for rooms. You may need to reserve a room a month or more ahead. Full Ocean views are in high demand with very high price tags, especially in vacation seasons and on the weekends. I might go back for a very special occasion when Im willing to spend the Big Bucks.
If you love the ocean and want to treat yourself you must stay here! The house is beautiful with antique furnishings and the service…well we felt special. Our breakfast was served on a silver platter with a spectacular view of the ocean. They even put binoculars out for your use. The MG car collection is really nice and the pool table still cracks balls. Loved it! We will be back!
The Inn is in an old mansion with lots of rooms and outdoor areas to explore. The rooms are furnished with antiques, and everything works well. The bed is super comfy. A really delicious and filling breakfast is served sit-down style daily in the dining room with large picture windows overlooking the bay. We spotted dolphins and sea otters, and some of the other diners saw whales spouting. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Its a short walk to Lovers Cove beach and Cannery Row. The only downside is the curb appeal is not great, so we were a little apprehensive on arrival. We will definitely stay there again.
This Inn/B&B has a near-perfect location overlooking the Pacific ocean and within easy walking distance of both Monterey and Pacific Grove. The unique rooms are all beautifully restored, as are the public areas where one of the best breakfasts Ive had in a long time was served. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive, and the library, pool, and ping pong tables were a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I would happily stay again!
Everything was excellent. Location directly across from ocean, beaches & views, best reception & service, great rooms & comfortable bed, quiet, home made gourmet breakfasts served like royalty, wine with fruits & cheeses served at 4PM, walking distance to Cannery Row. We had absolutely no issues. Stayed one night, February 12, 2022. So enjoyable, we will definitely stay again.
Great views at breakfast and happy hour. We had a garden view room which was nice. I suggest you book soon enough to get a water view room instead. The staff was always very supportive!! I highly recommend staying here when you visit the Monterey area.
We just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary with 2 nights at the Martine Inn, our second visit.There is no better location in Monterey/Pacific Grove, and of course the house itself is a masterpiece; but the real prize is the staff. Every one of them made us feel welcome instantly. Delicious breakfast made to order is served on a silver platter in the amazing great room overlooking Monterey Bay.The beds are comfy, and we enjoyed the wood fireplace in our room overlooking the water. I love that they have a funky but functional pool table out by the back patio. Ping pong too! If you are a piano player, check out the beautiful baby grand in the library. What more could anyone want?We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Absolutely lovely inn with amazingly nice staff :) We stayed in the Suite Room and it was so charming! The view from our room had an amazing view and not to mention the location of the Inn itself is perfect for those wanting to visit the aquarium or Cannery Row. We cant wait to go back!
We decided to drive down the coast to start our summer vacation and found this place. The parking was a challenge but once we got inside, the staff was so nice and showed us around the place and the amenities. We got to our room which looked out into the courtyard. This is not a brand new hotel with brand new rooms. I felt like we had traveled back in time and it was perfect. Old style furniture and old style feeling . The armoire wardrobe in front of our bed was so huge for the room that we joked about it reminded us about The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and how it might come alive at night. How fun! We had the best time!The Inn is so close to the water and while we were having complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine, we saw seals or sea lions in the water. Luckily, they have binoculars on the window seal so we grabbed them to watch. It is a 15 min walk to the Monterey Aquarium on the path by the beach where we had dinner. The walk back was amazing as the sun was setting.Our room had a patio outside so when we went to breakfast (which was also complimentary) we asked the wait staff if we could get our breakfast on the table on our patio. No problem! They took our order and 10 minutes later we were having breakfast on our patio overlooking the courtyard with some beautiful Bougainville on the side. After breakfast, my wife challenged me to a ping pong game and we played for half an hour.My wife and I are both teachers and needed a break after finishing school and this place was awesome. This isn’t the Ritz Carlton but if you need a homey get away place at a good price, then this is the perfect spot!
This is a hidden gem! It was waterfront, very clean, charming and the staff were happy and friendly! The history of the home added to the cozy feel. The breakfasts were a wonderful way to start my day and all of the extras (Ie: a fireplace in the room that was already set up and ready to go) were a terrific surprise! I absolutely adored this place and would highly recommend it!
The breakfast and service were excellent. Our room also had a beautiful ocean view directly next to the bed. Close enough to hear the ocean waves hit the shore all night.
Great for adults and young adults. Full of antiques and beautiful spaces. If you need a television in your room, skip it. There is free WiFi and a television in a public area. We liked the pool table, ping pong table, classic car collection, courtyard, free parking areas, breakfast room with amazing views of the ocean, cozy rooms, and the Monterey recreation trail right outside! We loved being able to walk to Lovers Point, Cannery Row and the aquarium. And breakfast was beyond perfect. We will be back!
Great location in Pacific Grove, right on the beach. Near all of the attractions that you want to see. Great breakfast and wine and cheese in the evening. Jeremy was the greatest host you could ask for. We will be returning soon!
The view was great! We had deer in front of our room a buck and then a doe with a fawn. The room was quaint Victorian style. The bed was comfy. The claw foot tub was lovely. The sitting area outside the room was cool!
The room was charming, the building was cool, the decor was excellent, and the service was top notch. However, the roofing work that was occurring left debris on the courtyard and pool table room. I would suggest ensuring the debris gets removed while the renovations are occurring.
I was really excited about this place, but my brother and I both reserved rooms through their website, and two days later had fraud on our separate credit cards. This was the only place that we had both used our credit cards.When I called to explain the situation they told me i had to call bookings.com or acorn to let them know, even though I made the reservation through their own website.I also tried to cancel the reservation, which they told me was impossible without a 20$ fee (which would be fair--except for the fact that booking with them exposed me to fraud). So Ill be disputing the charge with my bank. The whole thing is just super sketchy.It looks like a cute place but dont book through their website! Im not sure if bookings.com will be more secure, or if its an employee there stealing card info. They really didnt seem to care about helping me resolve it either, or the fact that people are getting their information stolen after booking with them.Im disappointed but Ill be trying to find somewhere else to stay
Yuridia and all the staff were amazing. Also loved the location, the food, and the views from the dining rooms. The inn was quirky mostly in pleasant ways, but pricey. In case it matters to you, there are no TVs in the rooms. The WiFi in our room was painfully slow, just for photos. We didnt even try streaming.
We had a wonderful time here. Ryan greeted us with such a warm hearted welcome, and gave us an informative tour of the Martine Inn upon arrival. He was well-spoken and gracious. We felt very comfortable and well-informed with Ryan. The old-fashion rooms and decor were so amazing. This type of culture gave us a very warm and cozy feeling about the Martine Inn. The complimentary Wine & Hors Doeuvres in the evening were delicious, along with the morning breakfast. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Grady & Barbara Martine. Barbara gave us an unexpected tour and history of the Inn. Wonderful and informative. Barbara and Grady were so gracious and welcoming. Our room was so quaint....canopy bed, old-fashion bathtub & shower, antique type furniture & accessories, and a wonderful wood-burning fireplace! Our view of the ocean was breathtaking!!! Debbie and I were truly pleased with the room, the friendly staff/owners, the food, the location, and the old style Inn which made our stay so warm and memorable. The Martine Inn is so close to the various food and tourist attractions. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Monterey (Pacific Grove) and will recommend the Inn to our friends and family. Great location. Easy access to aquarium and Pacific Grove. Breakfast was OK, but more of a value add vs the raw lodging experience. One note pay attention to the check-in instructions and times as there isnt a 24 hour desk.
Lovely, historic, seaside mansion filled with antiques and antique racecars. (The owner raced until the age of 85.) Breakfast is served on a silver tray... Staff are kind, generous and operate beautifully under stress. (Amazing what they did with a gas stove in a power outage.) Yuridia is a gem - love her! Walking distance from Cannery Row and the aquarium. Nature preserves mean wildlife: sealions, deer, birds galore.
My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Martine Inn and thoroughly loved it. The staff and ambiance was so delightful. The food and other little things they bring out, was very delicious. The view of the ocean of course is the main attraction, plus being so close to Monterrey Bay and Carmel, made our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend your trying it out.
Very nice boutique hotel, with great ocean views from some rooms. It is converted from an old mansion, and so each room is unique, and a little bit quirky. Shopping areas of PG are within walking distance, if you want a little exercise.Staff were friendly, and the breakfast served in the quaint breakfast room (with a great view) is definitely worth getting up for.

Nice rooms, lovely antique furniture, amazing fireplaces - no smoky smell at all! Hearty and decadent breakfast. Really appreciated the communal binoculars to check out the goings-on in the surf. The inn feels a little faded glory, but a really nice weekend getaway, especially sans kids.
This stay was one of the most memorable Ive had. We booked the room for our honeymoon. It was between the Martine inn or a huge busy resort. We picked the Martine because it looked quite and cosey. They are the best staff and treat you like family. Anything you need they will help you. We had a great ocean view room were we could hear the waves crashing around all night, so relaxing. Cars are amazing to look at. Court yard is beautiful with a pool table off to the side. The ONE bad thing that happened is our bath tub sprung a leak at 11:00 at night on our first night of the honeymoon. Well it killed the mood for the night. I called MR. Martine and I was able to stop the leak with towels until it could be fixed in the morning. He had them get on it first site of us waking up and gave us a bottle of champagne for breakfast. They felt bad for theinconvenience. I understand things like this can and will happen. Its how it is handled is what counts. They went above and beyond. Thank you MR. Martine and all your wonderful staff. We will be celebrating our 1st anniversary next year at the martine inn. 5 star service all the way. You truly get your moneys worth here. Its a gem of Monterey.
The Inn itself is lovely and perfectly located but the real draw is the staff! The team at the Martine Inn go out of their way to make your visit feel special. This is one of our favorite places we have ever stayed and cant wait to go back!
Stayed in the Jenny Lind room. Service staff were absolute delights. Lots of extra things were included, like free baked goods and fruit, full breakfast, wine and snacks, etc. One star lost because the privacy is less than I hoped for, but knowing that now definitely wouldnt stop me from coming back. Was within walking distance to shops, beaches, the Aquarium, cannery row, etc. Gorgeous ocean views in serveral locations throughout the inn. One of the most relaxing stay locations Ive ever had.
We didnt actually get to stay at the Martine Inn, but still received excellent treatment, that warranted a positive review. We were traveling with our six-month-old baby to see the Aquarium, and I booked a large room that would fit her portable crib. Unfortunately, the heat malfunctioned in the room, and I didnt feel like using the fireplace was a safe option with the baby. It was after hours when we left, and booked a room at a chain hotel. We returned in the morning, explained what happened to the owner, who gave us a full refund.
Wonderful experience. Incredible location, great innkeepers, great food, comfortable rooms. We had a business meeting here and they made it very nice for use - Apple TV to project our stuff, whiteboard, very comfortable meeting room. Super attentive staff. Cannot day enough nice about this one.
Worst hospitality experience of my life!! I booked this hotel through on online site and called to confirm. The manager told me that I would need a bigger room and to pay a surcharge for my baby, and instructed me to cancel my online reservation and make a new reservation directly through the hotel for a bigger, more expensive ocean-view room, which I did. The day of my reservation, they told me that they had no reservation recorded for me at all even though they charged my credit card $20. They then refused to refund the $20 that I was charged for nothing saying that I must have cancelled my own reservation because they never make this kind of error. So, basically they stole $20 from me, left me with nothing, and ruined my weekend.
It is a nice place to stay. They want you to have a great time. You can make a fire in the fireplace. They feed you breakfast which is great. This place is old and has antiques all over. There are cars you can look at. The lights are not that bright so if you like to read at night, you may have to ask for an extra lamp. NO TVS IN THE ROOMS. They have a place to watch a television but that is for everyone to watch!!
We had a very pleasant stay in the Malarin Room. The staff were friendly and helpful, we appreciated the wine and hors doeuvres in the evening, and breakfast was great the next morning. We loved the wood burning fireplace in our room. We will almost definitely be going back.
Go back in time...My wife and I stayed two nights here recently and can’t wait to come back! If you are looking for amazing views while enjoying table service breakfast and a chance to experience turn of the century living of the wealthy, you will enjoy the Martine Inn.This is not todays accommodations that several of the viewers seem to covet, this is yesterdays. If you are going to go back in time to 1899, you are getting all that comes with that. Embrace it folks.Our room had an amazing ocean view, a fireplace that we enjoyed in the evening and morning as well as the craziest shower (early 1900’s) that I have ever seen.The inn keeper was a delight, taking time to share stories with us about the restoration and history of the inn and area.There was coffee and fresh fruit always available and were only second to the fresh baked brownies and chocolate cookies my wife had me going back for several times.We felt that we stayed in a wonderful B&B, but we also felt we stayed in 1899 for two days.Thank you Don and Ann for a warm welcome and a nice visit to 1899.
Common space had a beautiful ocean view, the staff was attentive and not intrusive, the rooms were beautifully furnished with period furniture, It was the perfect place to be with my sister as we grieved the loss of our 101 year old mother.

The Martine Inn was an excellent place to stay. All the rooms are unique and have their own story. There are tons of things to do throughout the inn, such as a library full of interesting books, a game room, and a sitting room with an amazing ocean view. The price of a room comes with hors doeuvres and wine at night and a full breakfast in the morning. All the staff are friendly and accommodating. Overall, its a great place to stay.
I was a little hesitant at first, but this place is really something special. It has a special rustic ambiance with a lot of personality and very friendly staff. Its right on the beach so the view is fantastic, and walking distance to Cannery Row. I recommend it if you want to get away from the usual chain hotel. Will be returning!
This is a charming inn chock full of amenities within easy walking distance to both Cannery Row and Lovers Point. Its right on the coast along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail, and the views of the ocean at breakfast are gorgeous. Service was attentive but not overbearing or hovering, and breakfast was tasty. (Portions are fairly small but were enough for me.)The major downside to our stay -- I would NOT recommend staying in any of the rooms on the entry level floor (Monterey, Jenny Lind, or Garden) unless you dont mind being awakened at 6:30am sharp by staff preparing breakfast. There was lots of chatting among workers in the hallway (at least they all sounded as if they were in good moods) and inadvertent clanking of dishes as they were removed from a nearby closet. I dont know about you, but if I get to escape to a B&B for a romantic weekend with my honey, I want to be able to sleep in! Because of this, Im not sure if wed stay here again in one of the upstairs rooms or check out one of the other B&Bs along the coast.
Beautiful victorian style manor with several places to sit and watch the ocean. They even provide binoculars! Gorgeous antiques and plenty of free goodies. Only complaint is that the beds squeak as antique beds do and the walls are pretty thin.
Beautiful location. Very personalized service as soon as we arrived. Very cool bed and breakfast with a Victorian feel. Wine and hors doeuvres in the evening. Full service breakfast. Clean. Walk to the ocean/path. We will definitely be going back!
It was good until I was charged an extra $300 for having a dog in the room that was not true. Maid said there was a lot of dog hair and we did not see it and did not have a dog with us. I told them that but my money was not reimbursed.I will not be going there ever again.
Beautiful bed and breakfast with a wonderful staff! What could be better than watching for whales over a cup of tea in the dining room? Great deal on tickets to the Monterey Bay aquarium for guests too!
This B&B is very clean and the service is amazing! We got to enjoy wine and charcuterie while whale watching from the common area window and the breakfast the next day was delicious! Highly recommend!
We picked up a Travelzoo voucher and spent an extra $275 upgrade charge for two nights. I chose the upgrade after they said a suite with an ocean view was available.We arrived after a long drive and mid-evening, so we stayed there that night, but took the loss and left the next day. This place was so misrepresented! The description, the photos, what they told me over the phone – it’s not vintage, it’s run down! Here’s some of it:--I told them, “This is not a suite, it’s one living area and a bathroom!” and she said, “No, that’s just the name of the room – The Suite.”--Our “ocean view” was about a 20-degree angle as there was a house right in front of our window.--The breakfast in the photos? Not even! Poached eggs on mushrooms with an English muffin. One strip of bacon. One???--There is no television, which was fine, but the Wi-Fi was so poor we couldn’t even stream music.--The shampoo in the bathroom had already been used.--The refrigerator is a mini fridge just sitting on the floor.--No in-room coffee and no ice machine anywhere.--Everything is just old and tired. The finish had come off fixtures in many places, the carpet was stained, the footboard on the bed was loose, etc.--No air conditioning, so be careful if you’re going when it’s warm.I will say the staff was very gracious and gave us a partial refund when we left. We’ll NEVER go back though! It should rent for $125 a night at best!
We loved our stay here! I would come back here any time I came back to Pacific Grove. The room was amazing, the food delicious, and the people couldnt be more friendly. I highly recommend staying at this super cute B&B!

We stayed here last year and it was our first B&B. I hope they all are this nice, we were treated like the family you actually like. Neat rooms with different themes. One night costed $300 but its a great memory. Wish there was more parking
This was our 14th time at the Martine Inn, so we are clearly fans of the place. We found it by accident while looking for a B&B near Monterey in 2002, and it was such a great experience, we have come back at least once a year.The location is right across Ocean View Blvd from the Pacific Ocean, about a half mile south of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and between Cannery Row and Lovers Point.In November, we come Thanksgiving weekend, arriving at the Inn in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Or a little earlier, in time for the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay which goes right by the Inn.We have stayed in five different rooms at the Inn. Each room has different antique furniture, and I think every room we stayed in had a claw foot bathtub. The fireplace rooms come ready to light, with the logs and starter in place. Its very cosy, especially with hearing the waves crashing outside.Every evening there wine and hors doeuvres are served in the dining room, the same place where breakfast is served, and Thanksgiving dinner. There are large picture windows facing the gorgeous view.Breakfast varies as each day there is a fresh bakery item followed by the chefs special. There is fruit and juice served with the meal. If you dont like the special, you can get granola or oatmeal or scrambled eggs, but so far Ive stuck with the specials of the day which are varied and interesting.The service is amazing. Food is served on antique china with antique flatware. With coffee, you are offered a spoon from a special antique dish which has hot water in it so your spoon is warm. Likewise, the salt and pepper shakers, the butter dish and the other dishes on the table are antiques.
Not at all what I expected... The reviews I read were great, but I was less than impressed, and very dissapointed... The room we had (empire), had such a strong smell of smoke that my husband couldnt sleep through the night. I understand the rooms have a fireplace and in such small quarters there wil be the smell of smoke. Keeping that in mind the draperies and canopy should be cleaned regulary, you can tell theyre not! The bathroom ceiling is in need of repair. Theyve patched it with a board that doesnt quite meet, therefore each morning we were greeted by spiders in the bathroom, not my idea of fun. From the parking area to the front door there are three different sets of stairs. The bottom one is lit beautifuly, the second two are not lit at all. There are solar lights along the way, NOT ONE OF THEM WORKED. With the late evening and early morning dampness on the steps it was very dangerous walking up them. I was the one who insisted on spending my 50th birthday there and I could tell my husband felt bad because he knew I wasnt enjoying myself. What this did do was get us off the property and out and about to visit the sights, it is a truly beautiful area. Being a Travel Agent, I should have researched it better, I didnt do my homework on my own reservation. I can promise you I wont do that again!
For those who travel on a regular basis, and perhaps even for those who have seldom left their home town, you may have come across a place that feels like a second home, a place that you hold more dear than others you have visited. In my own travels, the Martine Inn has come to fill that niche. It is a place that I return to for the reasons many other reviewers have already espoused... the views, the food, the convenient location (within walking distance of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row), the hospitality of Don and Anne and the rest of the staff, and of course, the charm of the inn itself. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have had many positive experiences such as this elsewhere in the world but, for one reason or another, it is the Martine Inn that has captured our hearts, so much so that we got engaged in Pacific Grove during one of our stays. It goes without saying that I highly recommend the Martine Inn, but only on the condition that anyone who stays there recognize that the experience will not be one you will encounter at a chain hotel. There are no televisions, you can (and should) walk across the street to the beach for a slow, lazy stroll along the beautifully rugged coast, each room is entirely unique and you may actually have a conversation with a stranger at breakfast (and maybe even your significant other). So please, leave your tablets and laptops at home and enjoy the beauty of doing nothing.
My wife and I have stayed at the Martine Inn several times now. We have also stayed at all the B/B in Pacific Grove. We now continue to come back to the Martine. Its quiet and we like the old quint look, the game room with ping pong and pool and Mr Martine is quite an interesting fellow to chat with.
I love the people, very courteous and attentive to our needs. I love the food. I love the 1900s, the antiques, the cars..... and most especially... THE VIEW. The pacific water is so therapeutic.
Horrible Customer Servie. Ive never had such a big issue when it came to booking a stay until I booked here. The ladies at the front come off as sharks who dont care to accommodate anyone. I felt disrespected and talked down to. On the phone I couldnt even speak a full sentence without being interrupted. I tried explaining a situation that arose keeping me and my husband from being able to make out scheduled date. Keep in mind Im calling and calling and the front desk tells me I cant reschedule until 72hours before my booked date. Which is ridiculous! They have a 72hour cancellation policy. Anyways This place just wants your money and they dont care about customer service. Im so happy I wont be staying here.

We had the room over the garage that housed the classic MGs. Big room with a view of the water from the bed. The breakfast was fantastic. All around solid hotel for the area.
Staying at the Martine Inn is like taking a trip to the past. The inn is very cute, cozy, and located within walking distance of cannery row and the Monterey aquarium. The breakfast is good and they offer wine and hors doeuvres in the later hours as well as fresh fruit.

This place is so deceiving it looks beautiful from the outside and is so close to the beach but it is outdated and looks like furniture from my great, great grandmother. It is actually scary looking inside. I would never stay here again.

Staff were all nice and attentive to any requests. A little let down by the toiletries provided, only a cheap shampoo and hand soap, I’d bring your own if possible.

We’ve stayed at the Martine Inn several times. It has definitely become our favorite. Judy, the manager, makes sure your every need is met. She does it with an infectious laugh, attention to every detail and a welcoming personality that makes you feel as though you are home.

They have lost the meaning of hospitality.This morning, my guests were at breakfast before me. The server asked them if they were staying there. My friend put his key on the table. They were then asked when they were leaving. Being the only Asians in the room, they felt singled out.When I arrived, no such questions were asked to me. No guest entering after me was similarly interrogated. I asked the offensive party to step aside and speak with me. She had nothing to say. I asked to speak with the manager, who gave excuses and no apology.I asked her where the 24 hour availability of fresh fruit was. She said, shed like to see what said that. When I showed her their card in the entry, her response was, Things change.One thing has changed for sure. Ill never return.

2023-09-10 18:11:13Beautiful B&B in a perfect location! My husband and I spent two nights in the Marie room which has a gorgeous ocean view. It was so peaceful lying in bed in the morning watching dolphins and sea lions swimming in the waves and the seabirds flying through the morning fog. The bed was cozy and the room (the whole building, for that matter) had lovely antique furniture and art.A full service breakfast is served each morning in the dining room overlooking the ocean, with a fire in the fireplace. The food was outstanding! One morning we had French toast with berries and another morning was eggs with Parmesan potatoes. There is one main entree each day but other choices available if desired (scrambled eggs, oatmeal, granola). There is a tea and coffee bar 24/7 in the lobby. We didn’t get to try the evening appetizers since we were out.The B&B is located in a quiet neighborhood of beautiful antique homes, right across the street from the ocean with a nice walking trail along the shore. In the morning we walked this trail 15 minutes to the north to visit Lovers Point and beaches. Walking 10 minutes in the other direction takes you to the aquarium and cannery row. It’s a flat trail with gorgeous views. Perfect way to enjoy the area without worrying about driving and parking! The B&B has its own small, free parking lot but be aware spaces are first-come first-served and difficult for large cars to get into. However, there is free street parking with plenty of available spots.We didn’t spend a lot of time hanging out in the B&B but it’s a very peaceful spot, with multiple sitting rooms overlooking the ocean and a pretty courtyard garden with a goldfish pond. Deer frequented the yard. Every staff member we met was very polite and helpful. Be aware you must check in by 8pm as there is no front desk and no staff there overnight. When you arrive you ring a bell to get your keys.This is a great place for couples but I would not recommend it for families with children. It’s a quiet place with a lot of breakable antiques and an older clientele. Not kid-friendly.Overall it was a great stay and we would definitely return!

I found the history that is reflected in every corner of the inn compelling. Sure it’s dated but it’s comfortable and unstuffy and interesting. The location is perfect for exploring on foot. We enjoyed the breakfast and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We stayed on the second floor in the Parke room, large with a lovely view, comfy bed. Wonderful spot.

We were shown the room and were quoted the same price. When we checked our email the next day it was $295 (we were never given a paper receipt), plus taxes. The person who checked us in claimed we were mistaken & heard wrong (she was covering for her mistake). The manager did not honor the price we were quoted & said we should have checked our credit card statement right after booking. We were told we paid the correct price for the room, but the price we were quoted should have been honored. In the service industry, isn’t the customer always right? Not at the Martine Inn!

2023-04-22 06:34:44We were not expecting much as it was a very last minute trip but were BLOWN AWAY by our stay.We were greeted with a tour of the house (super old and creaky house with a lot of character and antiques), a charcuterie board, and different choices of wine - complimentary, of course. Apparently this was a daily occurence in the afternoon. In the mornings, we had complimentary breakfast with the best service and an amazing ocean view.Rooms are not big and look old but are cozy, comfy, and come with a fridge!The staff are SO welcoming and the service is top-notch (we asked if they had a ironing board and they went out of their way to set one up for us right away!)Location is also amazing; it is minutes away from the aquarium and busy area.We thoroughly loved our stay and would recommend this place to anyone. If we were to ever visit Monterey again, we would definitely book the Martine Inn.
