Sushi was delicious. Presentation was solid and service was quick. I have never had to pay a sitting fee at a restaurant which is very strange and odd, but you do get about 40% off the standard pricing. It would be better if Maru Maki would just price adjust and forego fee!

The place is on the smaller to medium size. Clean and decent enough space with an outdoor area. About 6 tables and a sushi bar. Gets loud very quickly.Food was good overall but the salmon teriyaki was overcooked, rice wasnt that good, and cucumber salad was a little bland. Calamari was tasty!

Went here on a date with my girlfriend as suggested per her idea. Needless to say wasnt dissappinted. Service was quick and our waiter was really nice. The premium rolls were absolutely delicious and I suggest if you want a good deal, get the lunch/dinner deal-meal for $8/$10 and everything is discounted. Really worth the price point.

I got here at 11:30 because that was their open time online but it turned out they weren’t opening until noon. I was super hungry so I was a little annoyed and therefore ready to be disappointed in the food.However, I’m so glad I waited and gave them a shot because this place is the real deal! We got 5 rolls, a sashimi plate, and two sushi samplers and it was $60! So that was already an amazing deal that I would have been happy with, but additionally, the sushi was really tasty and quality fish. In fact, the salmon was some of the best tasting salmon I’ve had in a long time.This was a really good lesson for me to me patient with restaurants as they are still adjusting their hours and getting used to our new normal in COVID. I will definitely be back and I’m bringing the rest of the family with me too!

I wanted to fall in love with this place since its right around the corner from me but the food was about as average as you can get. The fish came out room temperature which was a bit of a red flag and brought out the fishy taste to some of the dishes. The rolls didnt look like what was shown in the menu and was a bit of a disappointment. The service was far from knock your socks off and we werent even sure who our server was as multiple people came to the table with no introduction to what their roll was. I wouldnt say this place was horrible but there was a lack of attention to detail here that will probably keep me from coming back.

I waited so doors open they unlocked door and did not open door or great me as I was first customer of the day. The sushi chef seems upset 😡 or doesnt like his job makes people feel very uncomfortable. The sushi had a slight taste of sour! Not good. Plus they have an 8 dollar sit down fee for all customers. Soda is poured from can and when sushi 🍣 chef was preping he wiped edge of bottle with finger after he opened door and didnt wash his hands 😳 I wasnt their for more than 10 minutes after waiting 30 min till they opened will never go back no matter how much of a passion I have for sushi....

I ordered the fried calamari and a few rolls- they were really good. All the food was very fresh and got ready in 20 min for pick up. They were very courteous when I came in to pick up the food. I give only 4 stars because the price is a bit excessive I think. I got calamari (small portion) and 4 basic rolls and 4 special rolls and paid 100$. Otherwise was all good.

Recently moved to Long Beach and needed to find a new sushi place. Maru Maki is 🔥 I’m so glad we found this place. Excellent food. Lots of options. Great service! Parking can be a bit of a challenge but Maru Maki is definitely worth it. Can’t wait to go back.

First time I dealt with a place with a seating fee, $5 for lunch and $8 for dinner, but dont let that scare you off... After the seating fee most items are $3.50 or $5 which is well worth it...Everything was delicious, from the rolls to the teriyaki chicken, it was all good... At this low price you have to try the appetizers, spicy garlic edemame was a crazy surprise, coconut shrimp and the pepper jack tempura sticks were great!!All rolls were great and I wish I had room to try more...Now for the bad part, I cant give them the full 5 stars because the place could be cleaner, floor was a bit sticky and the menus were dirty... They have a lot of floor traffic from what I saw so its understandable but they gotta work harder at that...Overall I really recommend eating here...

This place is unimpressive. Ive come in twice and got delivery twice. First of all, I came in at 8:30PM for dinner and they close at 9:30 when I asked to be seated the server asked whoever the guy is behind the sushi bar“Are we still seating?”The two guys sat there in front of me (not acknowledging me) and decided whether or not they were going to seat me. That is one of the worst things you can do. Rude and unprofessional.I couldn’t believe it. They decided okay I guess and sat me. The server took forever getting me a soda when there were only two other people seated apart from my table.When I got delivery I specifically asked for ginger and wasabi. This was through an app so it was written. They did not give me ANY ginger or wasabi. I got a spicy roll and they use a basic hot sauce almost like a buffalo sauce which is not traditionally used and it just doesn’t go with sushi. They use way too much rice instead of meat and quality sushi. It tastes mushy and old instead of crisp and fresh. And its sloppily rolled. Not a fan of this place at all. Ive tried to like it because I was recommended it but was sadly dissatisfied.

It depends. If you would like a standard sushi experience, the hip hop and heavy Latin is probably not your first preference: but I didnt mind. The food was ok, but I experienced something new ...A charge to sit down. As in, a $10 charge for the one seat I took up at the bar with the other 10 seats open. I had a table charge....to pay for the food and beers I had for dinner ....To top off my evening, I had two flies in bottom of the carafe of sake I had just finished drinkingMaybe Im crazy, but was that part of the menu?

Pretty good Sushi and other food. We went today, and the prices have recently increased. The sitting fee WAS around $7, now its $10. Also the food wasnt as hot or warm as its been in the past. The person that I went with suggested that maybe the ownership had changed. Im not sure, but we talked about finding another Sushi restaurant next time. Id give them 3.5 Stars if I could.

Food is okay. Service has gone downhill over the past 3 years. Had the worst service ever three nights ago will never return. I asked to order something a la carte I was almost yelled at being told that its going to cost more money even though they were going to charge me $10 to sit down and $7 for the dish I wanted versus $12 for the dish a la carte after getting belittled and told that if I want to pay morning go right ahead they dont care then getting dishes just dropped off at our table even when we were saying thank you no reply the entire time extra charges on our bill we left. Not wanting to leave a tip because of the such poor service the waitress ran outside to confront my friend telling us she will never wait on us again and that were disgusting. Sad when a service industry feels entitled to get a tip no matter what their service is or how poor it is

This place is NOT THE SAME as back in the day. First, is used to be Japanese owned and ran but there aren’t and Japanese here anymore. The tables were dirty and sticky. Waitresses were sloppy and didn’t give service. Food did taste good but wasn’t special. The salad lettuce and veggies can straight out of the same plastic bag we all buy at the market. I won’t be back,ever. I used to come here years ago but it is totally different now. I’d say skip it.

You have outdoor, and indoor seating. And a sushi bar. If you come here dont expect much in service or quality of food. I/we just had rolls the evening we dined with friends and family.The rolls where masked by the heavy amount of sauce on top and around them. I believe the quality of the fish was sub par. They didnt taste fresh, and the rolls we ordered we left several un-eaten. We didnt want to overwhelm the female server as she was by herself. She did forget several requests made at the beginning, middle, and end of service. We just left it as she forgot, and didnt ask again as she was busy. Remind her at close out of bill, but she was to busy watching TV thats located right next to the credit card machine.Overall the experience was mediocre at best. Service lapses, and quality of food not good.Dine elsewhere is my opinion.

There are no prices on their menu. Dont trust the prices you see on online menus. Prices have pretty much doubled since the pandemic as far as I can tell, at least for takeout. Ask in advance. No idea what the sit-down prices are. It used to be a seating fee, then really reasonable prices for the sushi. I dont know what it is now. But the reasonable definitely doesnt carry over to the takeout.

This place USED to my favorite go to place for sushi. Its very convenient to my home and used to great service and good food. The new waitress was clueless on what she was doing. She kept bringing us food we didnt order. Was not paying attention to any of our request and in the end after paying she came back with someone else credit card! I mean how careless is that and when I proceeded to tell her something as far as her level of service she told me she had been doing this for 7 years and started to compare herself to me and my looks. Which that had nothing to do with her level of service and all her mistakes she had made, instead of acknowledge and apologizing she said I was the one being rude... All the other most recent reviews seems to feel the same way about her. Needless to say I will not go back as long as she is there!

I just finished eating here and highly suggest you do not waste your time. While the wait to actually sit was 15-20 minutes, the wait to actually get your food was an hour to an hour and a half. While I understand being understaffed and dealing with in coming customers, I do not understand conveying that information to customers after waiting an hour and a half. The wait would’ve been worth it if the food came out well, but we instead received rolls that I wouldn’t call sushi even if it grew lips and tried to convince me it was. We didn’t even get glasses for our drinks. After the dinner, we ask for the bill and find that they’re trying to overcharge us and when we point it out, get eye rolls and huffs as if it was our fault. We then head to go and pay because no one could be bothered to come check on the table and find the three men behind the counter drinking beers and the ladies’ upfront having YouTube up on their computer while people are still waiting to be seated/served. Don’t waste your time.

It is okay. I noticed that most of the rolls are just California rolls nicely decorated with different names. Some of the rolls will have scallops or even sushi or tempura on top, but remove the toppings and decorations and it all ends up being a California roll. I tried about 8 or 9 rolls and most of them were just California rolls with amazing toppings haha. Not bad, but it could be better.

This is the most cost-effective sushi place in Long Beach. If you bring your appetite, your bill will be surprisingly lower than you expect. However, you need to finish each plate in order to not be charged the full price. I highly recommend paying the dinner fee of $8 and ordering the $3.50 dishes. If you check in on Yelp, theyll throw in a free small sake. Service is fast and the dishes are always high quality. They have something for everyone. Large parties may be difficult to accommodate because of seating, so I would call ahead if you are bringing more than 5 people. The dining area can get somewhat loud, so I prefer to sit at the sushi bar typically. Maru Maki never disappoints!

This is a great affordable sushi place. They charge a sitting fee per person ( I believe its $8 or $10, dont remember exactly) and then everything on the menu is $3 to $5 depending on what you order. I love the sunshine roll. Its a casual place and not very big so it can be a little wait on weekends. I think the way the price structure works keeps it cheaper than most other sushi places which is also a big draw. They also recently added some outside seating thats dog friendly so another plus.

I love this place. I come here very often the selection is good and the service is great even when the place is full. That being said the quality of the fish they serve varies. Sometimes i go and the things i order taste perfect but other times its not so great. The bathroom they have there is just about the worst i warn you not to go in as it doesnt seem to be maintained at all. I give Maru Maki 4 stars though because 90% of the time i enjoy their food, have nice servers, and have a good time.

Hmmm so this sushi spot is decent, I don’t have much to say about the food itself, and the service has been fine but what puzzles me is whoever decided to do so many additional charges? Ok so they charge you $8 for service (?) if you order to go the price is twice as much (?) basically there are a ton of up-charges for services that the restaurant should already be providing. The best way to describe it is like how people complain about hospitals and how they charge you for service that you thought were part of the care. This place was the staple cheap eats for sushi in Long Beach so they have established a good reputation but I have a feeling it may soon be tarnished.

First time coming to this establishment because a friend recommended that I come here. The prices are a little high but that’s understood when it comes to eating sushi.. some people just charge more than others which isn’t a problem. However, I don’t know if it’s me or something else but just felt like the service was pretty terrible. I told the server we did not order this roll and he went to check our paper with our order and he confirmed we did not order it. He courteously said we can have the roll but the other Hispanic waiter that was also there rushed to try and take it from the table. Our server informed him that he let us have it. When our bill came the Hispanic guy brought us the bill charging us the roll we had not ordered. My husband paid for the bill anyway since I was embarrassed to have them remove it. Great sushi for great price. I could do without the weird Asian pop music videos that are playing all the time but thats just me and doesnt knock any stars off. What does knock a star off is the servers. Ive been to this place many times, usually during the day and I have never had a bad experience. Went there the other night (wasnt terribly busy) but the two servers running the floor seemed to be actively trying to avoid eye contact with myself or my friend. I finally got annoyed, got up from my table and stood directly in front of one of the servers and told him wed like menus. He huffed as if it was a great inconvenience for him and brought HANDED me menus. I had to AGAIN stop him when we were ready to order. All in all the one guy knocked a whole star off an otherwise great place.

I dont understand the hype. I wanted to try out this place seeing the great reviews but my experience was terrible. Out of the 8 dishes we ordered nothing was even average. The rolls were just meh, couldnt even taste the fish in there and beef teriyaki was the worst ever. Cmon, even the tiniest joints make good teriyaki.. Over all I was disappointed. When I walked into the door a server rushed me to the sushi bar and gave me a menu, order from and asked me what do I want to drink. I ordered a beer that was luke warm and the order form was copied over so many times it was almost unreadable. I order yellow tail and a roll. The roll was one of the smallest rolls I ever had and you can see it was put together in a hurry. The yellow tail was a good piece with good freshness. There was two guts who sat beside me as I was finishing up my meal and a different server explained the specials, drink specials and recommend rolls. This service I did not receive and was wondering if it was the me or my server. When I got the bill I felt it was much more than the quality of food and services I received. No plans to return. I reather go to Vons a few blocks down and get my sushi.

I think thats a great idea to reduce waste, but also if they didnt theyd be out of business in a New York minute. Eat in the restaurant. You are allowed one small to go box. Affordably priced sushi that tastes good. The sushi chefs are actually Latino, not Japanese. So is it going to be as delicious as Octopus or Wakano up the street? Well, no. But the customer is also not going to pay Wakano or Octopus prices. I also like that this restaurant allows customers to phone in orders for pick up. This is especially useful on Friday and Saturday nights when this restaurant has a wait out the door (it is a physically small place). If you are into sports you can sit at the Sushi bar, have sake and enjoy the game.
