Excellent place.I love pulling into a town I have never been to before like Novato and finding real, old school, diners like Marvins.The service was superb, the staff were all friendly and helpful, the food was perfect, we had a truly great breakfast there.
Wow this place was such a let down compared to all the previous reviews.I ordered to go on a Saturday around 11:00am so this is strictly based on the to-go experience.Honestly, the service I received was horrid. I was told to go to the back of the restaurant in order to place my order. The blond haired woman behind the counter taking my order was beyond rude. She snatched my debit card out of my hand, then proceeded to throw it on the counter with a pen for me to sign. Anyway, I step outside to wait for my order and was told I would be notified when my order was ready. I waited and waited finally 40 min later I walk in and ask if it was ready. It had been hanging and ready for a while because it had grown Luke warm.The food: because it had sat for so long it was a gooey texture and not hot at all. The bread was soggy and not enjoyable. The actual flavor of the hollandaise sauce was lack luster, nothing memorable. Ive had better Eggs Benedict.The house potatoes were under seasoned and cold...Good texture but bland. I will not be returning to this establishment.

This place was on point! Very good food,very good service, good prices, and did I say the bomb.com food entreesThe employees were very kind and very polite. They were about to close but they still had us sit down and eat.and when there wasnt no where to sit they. Learned off a nice space for us and got us a nice cozy personal spot to eat. I dont think I have visited such a nice,cozy, personal, comfortable place to eat like like this in a long time. We dont have one complaint. We highly recomend Marvins! Come one come all spread the word aroun.They close at 2pm, have outdoor dining, and is a must go place to pu on anyones list!!! Xoxo
It was my first time eating at Marvins, and it was really nice sitting outside having lunch. I enjoyed a turkey burger and watched the salads come out and looking really good, too. Looks like breakfast here is a hit as well.

Food was really good and definitely gives you a nice size portion. The service was good, only thing is the substitution of toast and fresh fruit we were charged full price for the fruit. If that was the case they should have put the toast on there. Atmosphere is ok just seating is a little cramped. You also have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom.

Passing through on a week long business trip I found this unique breakfast spot. Lucky to find a table and served by a wonderful waitress that mentioned shes been there over 20 years. Great food (try the Hash) and great atmosphere. You wont leave hungry.

I love this place!! My wife and I always go here for breakfast and cant get enough!! The food is worth the wait and they have a dog friendly patio!! Not to mention they win Marin Ijs best breakfast every year and its for a really good reason!! The ambiance inside is warm and inviting. Chuck and his wife are the owners and they are the nicest people!!! They always treat us so kindly and make us feel at home!!! If I could I would give them 10 star rating!!!
Had breakfast here. Great service. Friendly staff. Nice hometown feel atmosphere. Chicken fried steak, eggs, and hash browns were super delicious and cooked perfectly. Pancakes are fluffy and tasty. Shrimp Louie was great!

This place was amazing! We stayed in Novato after BottleRock and were pleasantly surprised by this little breakfast joint. All 4 of us enjoyed our breakfast and made a pact to come back next year.
My wife and I are visiting the area for a friends wedding and decided to venture out for breakfast. When we showed up, the place was bustling and there was about a 20-25 minute wait for a table. We opted to sit at the counter. Every plate that went by us, we were trying to figure out which item it was on the menu, we settled with the Hollywood Benedict and the biscuits and gravy. The Benedict can either come with regular hollandaise sauce or spicy. We went with spicy, but wished we had gone with regular. The spicy sauce seemed to be more tomato based and since the Hollywood came with plenty of tomatoes it was overkill, but otherwise they food was delicious and prompt.
Great local spot! Definitely draws a crowd and after eating the breakfast here we knew why.

Probably one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was so delicious. I couldnt talk. I had a friend and I was like leta just eat for a minute - it is soo good :)We came over on Saturday and it was busy but there were two table open for us. We were happy to sit outside. Weather was amazing and it was perfect. This place reminded me of being in Europe at the aame time it is an American food, but its very homly and not a fast food. Its just what perfect breakfast restaurant should be!They brought us coffee right away as we requested and we went for benedict eggs and for some hashbrowns and pancacke with fruits at the end. It was big portions but it wasnt heavy at all. It was just perfect and It was super good. I am coming back again asap for sure!Good service, good location, great food! Recommending for sure. If I could give 6 stars to this place I would have :)

Great local hangout for breakfast and lunch. HUGE portions, reasonable prices, lots of grease and gravy if you want that sort of thing. Coffee refills always on time. Even had gluten free bread for my toast! We visit every year when we are in town. Try it!

Decent diner breakfast food. One waitress was rude to us when we were getting seated telling us to wait outside next time, however, we had already been told to take that table by another waiter. One order of food came out wrong, and they were slow to grab the check while we could see multiple workers chatting/texting in the back (had to finally call someone over). Id probably try somewhere new next time were in town!

Marvins will always be one of my favorite restaurants but expect to spend $20 when you go there but it is so worth it the worth it the employees are amazing they are rock stars and Ive known the couple that owns it for a long time. The food is on point and comes out the same bit irregular. They know how to listen to how you want it and execute. If I ever want to show someone about Novato breakfast and impress them I will take them there. The location is cute right downtown and theyre a local community business that I feel good about supporting. Go Marvins Go!
Summary: good portions of some of the best breakfast food Ive ever tasted. - Marvins Breakfast Club is an extremely popular, privately owned breakfast and lunch restaurant, where the owners are working right along side the staff, and they all seemed very friendly. They served one of the best breakfasts weve ever had. I ordered the corned beef hash omelette, my date ordered the Western Benedict, spicy, which includes sausage, and we split them. It took a little while to come from the kitchen, which was understandable because the food was so good that the place was packed with regulars. When it arrived, we decided it was well worth the wait.

My boyfriend & I came here 3 or 4 times while we where vacationing in CA. I have to say that this adorable restaurant had hands down one of the best breakfast dishes ever! Everyone that was working there was extremely friendly & the service was excellent! We also met the owners & they were the sweetest, most hard working people I have met in a long time. I cant wait to come back here when I get the chance!

For fun, we ordered a side of Marvins Famous Hash... it was excellent! Shredded corned beef roast with hash browns and veggies. So tasty!The food was made to order fresh, hot, and with great attention to detail.We will be back!
This is a gold standard breakfast. The cooks are the machine. They understand what fluffy scrambled eggs are, what crispy bacon is, and hash browns crispy in the right places. Nicole is a fantastic business owner and has held this place together for years. Nicole knows who you are even if you’ve been absent for years. It’s a definite go to early morning breakfast and sit at the counter kind of place.
Great spot! Had to roll early to beat traffic for a meeting and wound up downtown with some time. Super friendly service. Sat at counter. Can’t remember the last time I read the actual paper. They’ve got them for you. In fact, not one phone was out so I tucked mine away and enjoyed the time. Corned Beef Hash, potatoes, scrambled, and rye toast. Homemade and really well done. Every dish I saw go out of the open kitchen was piping hot and served immediately. Yum.
I can see why this place was voted Best Breakfast in Novato! The food is great! Despite having an entire tray of water spilled on me during the first visit, I think its a great place! The breakfast portions are huge, the eggs were cooked just as I asked and the staffers were attentive.

Really good breakfast spot, takes a bit of time to get into though. The food is great, well prepared and exactly as described, not your average fare! The ingredients are well-thought-out and well-balanced. Table management by staff is a little off, making the wait extend up to 30 to 45 minutes. Parking can be a challenge, as it is a two-way street, that is very busy.
The food is very good. Everything is fresh and made to order. The service is excellent. Try the homemade corned beef hash with country potatoes. You will not be disappointed.
Love this place. Friendly staff. Working in the industry, I love seeing solid teamwork between Front and Back of house. And with the kitchen laid out for all to see, you can witness the amazing teamwork first hand.Food is delicious. I have only eaten breakfast here but I know they have quite a few Lunch options. Julia Benedict and Marvins Scramble are my favs. And they are massive portions. 90% of the time I cant finish all my food and have to pass it to my partner or package it up for the next day. Which by the way their food holds up well the next day. Still full of flavor.Cant beat the price for the portions. I truly feel bad for anyone who has had a bad experience here. Very rarely do restaurants get it right 100% of the time. But Marvins has never let me down. For the few who have posted bad reviews, I hope they give it a second try because Im sure things have changed.

Four of us had breakfast at Marvins recently. It was a warm day, we sat outside under a large umbrella and the food and service were terrific. We all had egg dishes and each was cooked perfectly, including scrambled light and fluffy, poached and over medium. Hash browns and crisp bacon were excellent as well and coffee cups were refilled regularly. Four thumbs up from us!
We had brunch. She had poached eggs, I had the breakfast burrito. Our meals were terrific! Great place to eat and enjoy the good people around you. Dont miss an opportunity to eat here!
THE BEST breakfast anywhere in the North Bay and beyond. Excellent eggs, perfect pancakes, wonderful waffles, in fact the entire menu is amazing and very reasonably priced. You will probably wait for a seat and rub elbows with your neighbors, but Marvins has never let me down. Super friendly and casual, the service is loud and fast, and the food is consistently phenomenal.

Food tasty but not in any way outstanding that we could see. Maybe bacon pieces were long and thick compare to some other places. Their scrambled eggs are bit odd? velvety for lack of better term - consistancy that I personally didnt like Place has nice character, in and outdoor seating. Several times we visited always a wait. They do take/call names. This time took about 45 minutes to get seated and another 15 to get served food. People waiting to get seated did get antsy.
A wonderful breakfast place! I had the farm scramble with spinach, mushrooms,feta and avocado... It was delicious! My husband had the buttermilk pancake... It was light and fluffy and also delicious. Always a wait on Sunday but well worth it!

We were on a road trip with work and looking for a good place to eat breakfast. Our options were limited due to Covid19. We found this place on the internal. It is a quaint store front restaurant with outdoor dining. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and my coworker ordered cornedbeef hash and eggs. We split them. They were both really delish and their prices were reasonable. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. I recommend this to anyone in that area looking for a good place to eat.
I love this place and come here often with my partner. We usually have a great experience with the wait staff. Today was not one of those days. The new blonde waitress was not friendly, did not follow through with our order fully, and made us upset as a result.

Best breakfast in downtown Novato! The portions are large and the food is always delicious. If you want to have brunch on a weekend, especially when the weather is nice and you can sit outdoors, you will have to arrive early or else suffer a long wait. It is a popular place!

Very busy due to the awesomenss of the place. On the weekend the line is big so I come only on weekdays and enjoy the morning.They open very very early so its everyone should at least try this place once. Small, no-fuss place. Stopped in for breakfast twice while visiting daughter for a couple of months. Both times mid morning, weekday; once in February and once in March. It was busy but no trouble getting table immediately. Service was very prompt and food was very satisfying. Photo was our first visit. Taking husband to airport for long flight home so we felt he needed a filling breakfast. Marvins succeeded in doing that. You can definitely split a meal with someone.

Another great lil local restaurant! They always have a wait and its completely worth waiting! Ive had each of their Benes and cant say enough about how good they taste! I especially enjoy the spicy versions, they sprinkle a bit of cayenne to give it a kick! A regular for locals, a treat for out-of-towners.
Not enough staff to work the tables. Items we asked for never made it to our table. Food got cold while we waited for essential items to go with our order. When we got up to get it for ourselves (after asking 3 times and our food was getting cold)we were then treated poorly and the check was brought immediately to our table. Not a good experience. It was unfortunate and could have been avoided.
Happened upon this place while looking for breakfast on my way from Santa Rosa. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the lady asked if I wanted spicy hollandaise sauce. It was amazing, by far the best Eggs Benedict I have had in a long time.

Picked marvins randomly for breakfast because we were passing through and we did not regret it! Place was packed full with a small line at 11am on a wednesday! However we were seated in about 10mins and service throughout our stay was timely and friendly. We both ordered the chicken fried steak which was absolutely amazing and the best wed ever had. The house gravy was fantastic. Even the cook was pleasant and asked how we liked our meal when he got a chance. Will definitly find time to venture to the west bay for this again soon!

Marvin s has been a long time favorite. I used to work in Novato, so eating here was a frequent occurrence. For that to happen the prices had to be reasonable, they are. The other factor has to be the quality of the food. And from 2009 to the present Marvins has maintained a high quality of food at a very reasonable price. I have 2 favorite breakfasts at Marvins: New York steak and eggs and ham steak and eggs. I tend to stay from red potatoes, which have become ubiquitous. Try the corned beef hash, its great.
Marvins is always a great choice, as evidenced by the long brunch lines. Even during the week the restaurant is usually busy for breakfast and brunch. Portions are solid and the food is great. On the weekend you should show up early to beat the crowds.
Food is awesome, seats inside and out, no designated parking, closes at 2pm. Friendly staff, prices are reasonable with a good variety for breakfast and lunch only menu. I drive past at least a dozen places when I eat at Marvins, and that is not an accident. Its a conscious decision.

The hollandaise sauce is delicious.They have rotating specials and are all good.I honestly cant think of a bad thing to say.If you go on the weekend, be prepared to wait. The line starts early.
You know its good because there is usually a wait for breakfast. Not much seating inside but there are tables out front on Grant Ave.Street parking available right in front. They also have good coffee and great servers that keep your cup full when you need it in the morning.

Google says three stars means its okay... and thats true. Not fantastic, not horrible... just ok.Our party of three had distinctly mixed results. One member had a rather bland, dry sandwich. One had a decent breakfast and one had a nice sandwich and salad.The service is also just OK. While the staff was relatively attentive... but one felt as if they were having a bad day and were just going through the motions.You guessed it, value was just OK. We didnt feel ripped off, but were a little shocked to get a $50- bill for a very average lunch. That could be because its Marin county, and everything is a little more expensive there.On the plus side, the restaurant, kitchen (one walks through the kitchen to use the restroom) and bathrooms were very clean.

Marvins is the best breakfast option downtown Novato. Good food, friendly service. But be warned, indoor seating is limited. If you get there early youll be fine. Later in the morning you can enjoy the sidewalk tables.
Ive been eating her for years. I no longer live in the area, and really miss the food and atmosphere! I would recommend getting in early so you dont have to wait in line. Ill be there for breakfast next time Im in town!
I have always loved this place. since I was 3 years old now I am 42 thats 39 years of great service, great food, and great times. My breakfast favorite. Great meat and fresh veggie options.
If you can brave the wait time - or come early in the morning/in between the breakfast & lunch rush - youll be rewarded with the best breakfast menu in the North Bay & a killer lunch menu, both with portions as big as the staffs hearts; yummy milkshakes; d@#@ fine coffee with endless refills; and a cozy decor.
Friendly staff. Quality food. Very nice atmosphere. Pricing is a touch above what you would normally spend at a Dennys or Ihop. Visited this place five times seems packed for group gatherings but if your flying solo theres always space at the counter plus you get a great view of how the food is made. A meal an a show and hearty food to enjoy. Menue consist of burgers, sandwiches, steak and eggs (my favorite which there always out of) eggs Benedict, omoletes ..etc, etc. Stop here often when Im the area.

If you love breakfast, this is a must try. Be prepared to wait for a table during peak times. My only issue is that its a little crowded for my taste, but there are so many people who love to eat here that they need to pack them in! Big fan of the food and vibe.

Got there right when it opened and almost didnt get a seat. Good selection of breakfast food, decent quality, reasonable prices. It took a very long time to get part of the order. I prefer Bacon, in the same area, but much better.
Slightly upscale diner food at above diner prices. Our food was hit and miss, 3/4 were simply adequate while the walnut french toast was exceptional.
I love Marvins in Novato, Ca. They have THE BEST BREAKFAST in the area. The food is fresh and plentiful. The servers are super nice too. Cute outdoor tables on the main drag of novato with lots of shops to wonder around in. Im sure lunch is just as good, but im a anytime breakfast connoisseur and Marvins is the bomb !! Weekdays are hopping till about noon it seems with a short wait. Stick to weekdays....weekends are mobbed as most brunch places are.You wont be disappointed with breakfast for darn sure...guaranteed!!

A great breakfast spot. The Benedicts are fantastic, as is the chicken fried steak. Be warned, seating is tight and the place can get quite loud, just because of close quarters.
The food is always delicious, the staff is always kind and courteous, and your coffee cup will never hit empty. Its great for families and dates alike. What a great place to eat!
Met a friend and her daughter today for lumch. The wait dor our table was not long, the staff was very helpful and accommodating to my 83-year-old father. The food was fabulous and plentiful. A definite must stop if you are in Novato!!!!
Eggs and bacon were perfectly cooked! Delicious all around including the fresh squeezed OJ. Loved the staff too. Would go there regularly if we lived here!

You have to wait for the good stuff! It takes a little while for the food to get to you as this place is very busy and small, but its well worth it. The food and the portions are outstanding!

This place is awesome.So Im not a big fan of hanging out in Novato. My chiropractor is here and Im usually in and out of town within a half hour. One day I had a bit of time to kill and felt like a decent breakfast.You Novatoans (Novatoites?) have a true gem here! I was greeted by a friendly hostess/waitress/cashier who made eye contact with me the second I walked in. Another waiter poured my coffee less than 15 seconds after I sat down and plopped a menu in front of me at the same time. The menu is fabulous and I will be back to try some of the other items but I just felt like the old staple: bacon and eggs. Well it was anything but ordinary. The Applewood smoked bacon is thick and cooked to perfection. The scrambled eggs were the fluffiest eggs Ive ever had! The cooks whip this up so fast it seems like magic. Coffee cup never empty. No obnoxious overly chatty waitress. Perfect service. Excellent food. Just perfect.Clearly there are regulars here as I heard the staff say good morning to people by name. Almost makes me wanna be one of those regulars. But sorry, Novato. My heart is in San Rafael. :-)
Eggs Benedict with corned beef hash was perfect as were the hashbrowns. Service was great. Sat outside because inside is claustrophobic for me. Great place for breakfast

I had the walnut French toast and it was just so good. Staff is super friendly. Was great for my 11 month old son. Would suggest above anywhere else Ive been for sure.
Sadly, this is a case of the old grey mare aint what she used to be. I had not been to Marvins in about 10 years. Ive live in Novato for about 50 years. The former owner and chef (I believe his name was George) cooked breakfasts that were nothing short of epic no matter when you came in. These days, I think people are basing their opinion about Marvins on what used to be or they just like the idea of eating out on the sidewalk.Had ham and eggs last Wednesday morning. Service was friendly but slow. Ham and eggs were just OK. Not worth the price. Wont be back.

Having to explain why this place deserves 5 stars is actually pretty silly. It is clearly a community staple with a friendly workforce and skilled breakfast cooks. I enjoy every-time I come here, not only because you can get breakfast for lunch, but because there is this repore that you can instantly jump into with the staff where they just laugh at your dumb jokes and remember you after your first few times eating there. The food you ask? How is it? Fantastic. Though I will admit I rarely stray from the mainstays. Bacon, sausages, eggs over easy (done perfectly every-time), and of course #potatoes. Actually,their hash-browns are my definition of what this dish should always be. Just the right amount of crunchy golden potato crust with an almost steamed center that has a nice mild fresh potato flavor to it. Every kind of hot-sauce you need is just a reach away as well for that perfect final seasoning. Oh and, one more thing. The pancakes here. Very very very good pancakes. Not complicated, just perfectly fluffy cakes, tender but with enough of a chew to satisfy and stand-up to the Buttergeddon and Syrupaside that I put them through.Funny factoid; I cannot (and do not want to) eat all that much in one sitting, but every-time I come to Marvins I eat at least 2 eggs, bacon or sausages, a plate of hash-browns, and the aforementioned, almost plate-sized, pancakes(2), smeared with butter and drowned in syrup. How is this possible for a 145 pound dude who is technically scarfing down his 2nd breakfast? Its not! See? Explain that with your precious science! You cant, can you!? Its just Marvins breakfast magic.
Marvins has been a family favorite and go-to for years, we come from Petaluma to enjoy Marvins and the atmosphere. Quaint, warm atmosphere, great service and great food.

A classic institution in Novato, CA. This was - and is a favorite stop for breakfast, but its also great for lunch. Its small, but has curb seating. When the weather is nice, dining outside is best.

A restaurant for an excellent comfort food brunch. I had the country fried steak and it was on point. They gave you plenty of food for the price, service was snappy, and everyone was very pleasant.
Do yourself a favor and order any dish that includes bacon. You will not be disappointed in the amount of delicious thick-cut bacon served!

Taste was great, just expect a wait if dining during peak times. Lots tables outside with umbrellas for shade when needed.

The place was packed. The only outdoor table that was available was next to stacked tables resembling a dump that had used gum that you could view.

The food is so delicious, from scrambled eggs that are like light, fluffy clouds to sweet, dessert-like pancakes. I have never not loved the food here.
I am a regular. Everything is great except possibly the portion size. They have take home boxes for that. Maybe order a half portion or bring a friend or spouse and share.

2023-10-01 16:39:20Found this absolute gem on a road trip to Oregon and we were not disappointed! Only seating was at the bar and the locals all scooted to make room for us. Hubs ordered biscuits and gravy and I got the “short stack” pancakes which was anything but small. The biscuits were perfectly flaky and gravy delicious. The pancakes were some of the best I’ve had! But our favorite part was chatting with the owner who made time on a busy morning to introduce himself to the unfamiliar faces at the bar and hear his story. If I could give more stars I would and will hopefully be back someday!

Wait staff is super fast and friendly and menu is extensive.I had a Benedict dish and the eggs were poached to perfection, the English muffin was some kind of magical grilled wonder, and the sauce was true Hollandaise sauce.I wish I could have tried every item on the menu.We will be back every chance we can get.

Interior seating is a little small, but they have a lot of outside seating - good for warm, sunny days! The service is superb; besides the usual attentiveness, the last time we were there we sat outside and our waiter noticed that the sun was directly on us and offered to bring out an umbrella to shade us - very thoughtful! As far as food, I usually go for the pancakes and my wife goes for an omlette, which she ranks as tops in Marin.

2023-10-07 17:16:36We had a 7 hour drive ahead and after gassing up, noticed a quiet, tree lined street with colorful umbrellas on outside patios. This was the breakfast place. Country music blasting inside, and quickly seated dishes of eggs, pancakes etc line danced by on their way to the patio. The smell was fantastic. Big selection of benedicts, omlettes, French toast and lunch items. We had their veggie benedict, and a cinnamon walnut french toast combo. Portions are big, so sharing is important. Delicious and homemade taste. Stiff black coffee to keep you focused over the bay bridge. Great place. Fast and friendly service. 4 pages of choices.

2023-07-07 15:02:55Marvins offers you typical breakfast diner food with a bit of flair and spice and menu descriptions that do some heavy lifting. My definition of piles of ingredients may differ from theirs, and that is a-okay. Because what made Marvins such a great experience was sitting outside and watching regulars, young and old, stopping by and being served their usual, striking up a conversation, and then enjoying their breakfast or lunch. Being on a road trip, this was a great experience to see, and although we were clearly outsiders, the staff extended their hospitality to us, on par with their regulars.
