Japanese food has always been our favorite food. Service was excellent. The fried calamari was a bit over fried. The negi toro come in a different size, more like a roll and lack a bit of that small sized flavor. Personally, also prefer the sushi rice to be a bit more sour. Prices were a bit on the high end.

Nice little sushi restaurant in downtown. But I have to agree with other reviews, 5oz saki is very stingy for a serving. Especially when the waiter stated is is plenty dor 2 people.Sushi was good, fresh. No creativity in presentation. Ramen bowl was incredible! Definitely tasty and well prepared!

Let me start with the food, which is key for any restaurant. The sushi was fresh. The rice was loose, not sticky as it is supposed to be for sushi and sashimi. The spicy tuna roll was bland. The 3 piece tuna and 3 piece yellowtail were tasteless. I give the food 2 stars at best.Second, consider drinks. The sake was excellent (5 stars). I would return for more sake but not order any food. Third, the wait staff were very friendly and fast (4 stars), but the hostess was very inexperienced and wanted us to wait 20 minutes to sit down in order to let the waitstaff catch up (1 star). After 5 minutes, I talked to the manager and explained that we would be happy to sit at a table w/o service but not stand around. He seated us immediately and we waited 15 minutes before being waited on, which was fine. Overall service was 4 stars.Summary: this is an overpriced restaurant with very mediocre food and decor that one would expect from a take-out sushi restaurant. There are many such take out restaurants at 1/2 the price.

We had a wonderful dinner - Chef Patrick did his magic. We sat outside, had Sashimi, Omakase Roll, Uni Nigiri and Tempura Corn! Service was impeccable. We will definitely be back.

We’ve eaten at Masa many times and the food is outstanding although a bit pricey. However, earlier this summer, we noticed that the service has become terribly inattentive and slow. But for the poor service, we’d gladly give 5 stars.

Wonderful attentive service and the best sushi I ever tasted. The staff at Masas are very friendly and excel in hospitality. Cute sushi restaurant in downtown Novato.I enjoyed Masas one night and had to come back again for the incredible sushi. I highly recommend trying Masas sushi and if dining some sit at the bar. The chefs definitely know what they are doing and fascinating to watch.

Absolutely extraordinary. Some of the best, most exquisite sushi I have ever had. Toshi San and his team have established a place that is worth traveling to for its food. All seven of us were in awe at the flavors, texture, presentation and incredible quality of every single dish order, regardless of it was part of the omakase offering or out of the main menu. Extremely overpriced for the quality of food. The tuna tasted SO fishy; I sent back the whole platter.The salmon sashimi was the smallest sliver of salmon I’ve ever seen. 3 pieces would have been equivalent to 1 piece in other restaurants; but this was more expensive. It was almost laughable! It was not any better or fresher than salmon you can get at Safeway. I was excited to try it because it is “Michelin star” but I am still trying to figure out why it even has this title. I would NEVER go back. Very disappointing!

I have not eaten at the restaurant, but when I have picked up my food; the staff were 1000% of what is needed they were amazing. The food was impeccable, sushi was nothing less than perfect. It has raised my standards of sushi. I asked them to pick out a nice bottle of Sake to go with the meal and once again nothing less than perfect. Masas deserves nothing less than 5 stars. I highly recommend. It might be a little expensive for some people, but it is well worth it. The flavors are wonderful and you will not be disappointed.

Where to even start…first of all sushi is made with white rice not brown, second finding multiple scales in the hamachi is pathetic, third $58 for 3 pieces of mediocre nigiri, 2 rolls and a bottle of hot sake is ridiculous. I’ve eaten at a lot of sushi resaurants over the years and this place doesn’t even make the top 25 especially at the prices they charge. I was really hoping that Novato had 1 decent sushi place but apparently they don’t.

The service was excellent and I enjoyed eating outside.My wife got the tempura bento lunch and it was good.I got the spicy seafood ramen and it was probably the least good ramen I’ve had at a restaurant. For $22 !I like the place and the people but the ramen was like what you would expect in a rural area. It’s Marin so the food is expensive but not worth it.The restaurants here are more expensive than those in the Peninsula (where I used to live) and the food isn’t at the same level.

I never thought I would be a sushi person, Im a picky eater and often dont like fish. I came here the other night with a party of 5 and I was truly blown away. From service to food, it was a great experience. The tuna roll and crunch roll were some of the most amazing dishes Ive ever eaten! I wasnt surprised at all seeing the Michelin sticker as I walked out the door.

When THE Masa of Masa Sushi retires my husband and myself had worried. Often than not, a change like that leads to a decline in service or quality, but that is NOT the case! New ownership has brought a fresh take on the menu, and old specials were revamped with NEW creative interpretations. We love and miss Masa and his family and their unique traditional menu and specials, but somehow the new ownership fills the big shoes they left behind and has brought a fresh take... if you love the old Masa you will be refreshingly impressed with the change, and if you’ve never been, GO! It’s terrific!

We ordered two soups and a California Roll. One soup was ok the second was horrible I couldn’t even eat it. The California Roll was horrible the crab was old and dry. After leaving we went to Safeway and bought a California Roll that was way better than this restaurant. No free refills but they don’t tell you that. I don’t suggest going. Only go if you want to be disappointed.

My wife and I went in for the Omakase. It was a delightful meal and a wonderful succession of plates.Service was attentive, and even took not of my wifes aversion to wasabi and asked the chefs to make a slight change to their preparation so she wasnt so put off by the flavor.Totally recommended. Were looking forward to going again just to sit at the bar and sample more of their delicious preparations

One of the best places I have ever ate in. Super super super super super good. I didn’t go to sleep and was drooling over thinking about the food I ate. Seriously, this review ain’t nothing compared to how good it is. Got the asparagus salad, dragon something roll that had spicy tuna and tempura. Also a California roll that had avocado, lime and salmon. Then the Miso something fish (black cod) and a Japanese wagyu order. BEST FOOD !!! Going again today. Im in Love.Update: I forgot to finish the Review because I was eating in MASA. Again; amazing place. The rolls were the red dragon and salmon citrus.

So this place is expensive. As are most sushi restaurants, but I went here thinking it was just to run of the mill place, and not realizing it was michelin recommended. it was packed but there were two seats at the sushi bar and so my toddler and I had a wonderful meal and the fact that the hostess was lovely enough to seat us despite the chaos around her was wonderful. I sat at the sushi bar and made friends with the people around me who were very enthralled by my sons love of all the food, especially pickle ginger. The sushi chef saw how much my kid devoured the pickled ginger and gave us two servings before we were even served our food. It wasnt unexpected great moment of my day. And being the mother of a very exuberant toddler, thats a pretty rare thing. Plus, as soon as he started acting up I asked for a box to go and the service was phenomenal and I got out of there without disturbing anybody.

I don’t know why this place is in Novato, but thank god it is! I would easily say this is the best restaurant in the entire North Bay. The team here is on their A Game, and have whipped up some of best dishes I have ever eaten. Yellow tail in a truffle ponzu, oyster with caviar, yellow tail belly... I mean come on!! They also have some badass ramens! And did I mention how epic their staff is? Anyway, this restaurant is out of this world, and well worth the visit to Novato.

Went here for lunch one day and got the bento box. The bento box had a pretty good variety on top of being pretty cheap. The only issue was I didnt really leave the place full. Everything tasted great though, and I loved how the place looked. We had a bit of trouble getting the check, as there was only one waitress and it was the lunch rush. I dunno if thats the norm or we got unlucky.

This was by far the best sushi weve had probably ever and we have had many high quality sushi experiences. We sat at the bar and watching chef Takatoshi Toshi was quite the experience. He makes it look like an art form. Everything we had was excellent. The wagyu beef nigri literally just melts in your mouth. We used to love Sushi Ran and couldnt figure out why it has gone down hill so much and it must be since he left. So excited to have found this gem in Novato. Thank you for an amazing mind blowing dinner!

Not authentic at all, just Chinese food with Japanese flare. I guess you can go there for the sushi with mayo covered in it and call it good, but I order the yakisoba and it was just chow mein and thats a sign that it isnt authentic Japanese food at all. I can get cheaper and better Japanese food from a market then this place.
