I ate udon and it was delicious. The restaurant looks old, but I can feel the depth of the taste. The portions are quite large, so Im full. Next time, I want to try Roll.

I came across it while looking for a Japanese restaurant because I was hungry. The food was pretty, so I took a picture before I hurriedly ate it, and it tasted good too. I recommend this restaurant. The staff wasnt bad, but I wish they were a little more friendly.

My experience here was awesome and it seems like a good place to have a date etc.It’s definitely not your normal quick takeout Japanese restaurant it’s a bit fancier to me. The food was slightly bland but still good.

I stumble to this place needing sushi to go. Coming out of Paris baguette for my wifes birthday cake. I ordered 5 items. Super california roll, Spider Maki, spicy aloha roll, crazy monkey and Lambada roll. None of them taste fresh. They all bland and it took soooo long at 40 minutes for 5 items to make and no one else waiting but only 3 people seating and eating. Like I said I just stumbled to this place and never would come and not recommend this place to fams and friends that lives in Pleasant Hill. Please do not support this place.

Cherry Blossom and Lambada were outstanding. Fish was very fresh! Have visited here a couple of times, and it’s actually been getting better with each visit. Good, easy sushi option for Pleasant Hill.

Well you just lost a regular customer. I have been ordering sushi here once a week for past year. The same order every time. Today they have totally messed up my order, out of nowhere asked me to pay extra for the same substitute I have been doing for past year, I asked for a extra cooked roll cos I can’t have anything raw and they served me completely raw roll. I placed an order over the phone (as always) and clearly the lady wrote down something else and when I went back to complaint they started blaming me that I actually did place an order like that! And they were asking me to pay extra! Ridiculous. No respect for regular customers. I am SO disappointed. I will never order here again.

Had dinner here again after a few months of avoiding due to some not so stellar food & let me tell you they have seemed to improve a lot. We ordered the Philadelphia Roll, Gogo Roll, Lion King & some Jalapeno Pops and they were really hit the spot.

Nice cool hip-hop place in Pleasant Hill. Their tempura is on par with other places, and the sushi was fresh with the correct temperature. We had about seven different rolls and there wasnt any that we did not like. We did wish they had some Daily Special menu with special creation that can showcase their skills. Other than that, this place is pretty good.

The place is now owned by Koreans and the portions are smaller like the salmon and tempura only 5 pieces and 1 shrimp. The worse thing now they charge $2.50 for hot tea and before it was free..

Unfortunately we will not go back to this restaurant. Called and ordered our food and showed up 20 minutes later as advised by the person who took our order. There were a lot of people also waiting for their order. I checked in and 45 minutes later we got our food. So I am not the complaining type however I hope the owner or manager reads this post. You need training and leadership in your restaurant. I counted about 8 people working however it felt that they were all just running around and not much progress. The lady answering the phones and processing the orders needs training. Wish you the best.

BEST SUSHI PLACE EVER! Relaxing, great service, homey vibe, clean, perfect weeknight dinner spot for a laid back vibe. If you love fresh fish, this is the place to go! We ordered hot tea and sashimi and nigiri meals. Comes with salad and miso soup. Felt healthy and delicious. Our waitress was very hospitable. Wonderful and cozy place, will definitely return.

Our server was very friendly and open to making suggestions. Although the portions are smaller, theyre good sizes with quality fish. The hamachi hand roll was especially delicious and the fish was delicate and buttery. I normally have stomach issues with bad sushi and Im glad to report that this place is legit. Definitely will come back.

I have a love/hate relationship with Matsu.I absolutely love their food. I always get extra salad with creamy sauce.But it seems that some of the staff give me hard time and this last time was kinda the last straw.I went to order my salad, doors were open and when I get to the cashier.. sorry we are closed...I was saddened because I have spent so much time here, even Door Dashing! Karrage chicken and salad.Ive even forgave the time I was given their orange salad dressing (which I dont like)...The food is good, the price is good and the place is nice to sit and relax.Im not a sushi person, but they have a good sushi bar as my friends always like getting there.

Matsu is one of my top favorite sushi restaurants. I have been to many around the nation. The rice tastes right.I return here often and never experience long wait or misunderstandings.I observed their food prep work more than a few times and they take much care in preparing the ingredients.

I LOVE sushi and this is the BEST sushi in Contra Costa County hands down! We drive from Oakley to eat here because we cant find any better sushi closer to us. I have eaten at numerous sushi restaurants in this county and none come close on sushi. I rarely eat food besides sushi there but what I have tried isnt bad. Ive never had a problem with the service but that is going to be subjective.

The food was good, but I didnt like how the server/ cashier didnt show us the menu price breakdown for our order. Felt like we were overcharged and I didnt realize this until I looked at the menu prices and calculated it myself. Expect to be overcharged $10 more!

This place gives off the neighborhood vibe once you walk in where everyone is a regular and the music is low key jazz. The food is portioned well with dozens of different rolls to choose from. If you want a good intimate place to enjoy sushi then come to this place.

This place used to be a lot better. But, this time the beef teriyaki was tasteless and the consistency of the meat was as if it had fake burn marks, reheated then had cheap bottled sauce poured over it. The tea was cold and it was hard to get their attention to get refills. On top of that they charged us for the tea. Most Japanese restaurants include it with meals.My wife had teriyaki salmon and that was just ok, as she has certainly had better both there and elsewhere. Maybe it was a bad night or a bad cook, so it is fair to say you can give them the benefit of the doubt.In the staffs defense they did try to accommodate us and showed us that the meat was indeed fresh. At first they blamed it on a new cook, then reversed their story and said the cook had been there for years. Then they told us different cooks mixed up different sauces...whatever. To their credit in a show of good faith they did give us a discount that cancelled out the tea, and I appreciated their gesture.It still does not take way the fact the food was below the standard of what I had eaten there before. However it was certainly edible mixed with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Bottom line: there are a lot of Japanese restaurants out there we have left to try, so Im scratching this one off my list...not terrible, but certainly not great.

My Favorite Sushi Place Was Recently Closed, So My Boyfriend And I Decided To Give This Place A Chance. Going In There Was No One To Seat Us, The Waitress Caught Us At The Table To Give Us The Menus. We Ordered A California, Tiger, And Love Roll. All Which Took Almost 45 Min To Make. Each Roll Tasted Very Bland And Cheaply Made. The Rolls That Were Priced At 10$ Or More Werent Worth It At All. We Hardly Finished Any Of It, And Almost Felt Sick To Our Stomachs.This Is Not The Place To Go To For Sushi.Never Coming Back Here Again.One Star Rating For Trying.

The sushi isnt much to brag about. I rather just buy sushi from the deli, seems fresher, and I would get it on time. The customer service is HORRIBLE. Theres multiple(4) servers on the floor, two sushi chefs, 5tables, and it took 20mins just to get 4 warm fresh oysters. Mean while needing water/drink refills, no one cares to fill or check up on us. We sit here not eating, no drinks, trying to make eye contact with someone; just to get over looked by many workers. Finally our two rolls arrive, 50mins later, with even less tables by this time. By the time we finished our sushi we tested to see how long it would take to be noticed, that we want our check. Took so long we had to ask for it. An hour later 2 people wanting lunch, just only 2 rolls and 4 oysters; 2 chefs, 4 servers, 5tables(2-3per table) just lost a valued customer, whom I have tried this resturant 3 times now-NEVER CHANGES! 3 strikes your out.

The food is alright, but take care with ordering online. I had cancelled a web order and did not receive my money back; I was told that I had called to cancel my order just in time because it had not been made yet, and that they could cancel my order and transaction. However, I did not receive my money back which left me with the feeling that this business stole from me. After all, I paid for a service that I never got from this place.

This is one of our favorite sushi spots. The only drawback, if you order a bento box & sushi, the bento box usually arrives first. Some of our FAVORITE items: Aloha Roll Combo Sashimi Rainbow Roll Wakame Salad Unagi Donburri Fried Oysters Our LEAST FAVORITE Items: Poke Salad - there was more onion than necessary Ahi Tuna Salad - didnt taste bad, but I didnt like the texture Chicken Katsu Donburri - The sauce was already mixed in. Tip: order the sauce on the side. Overall, the food is always good & the sushi is always fresh. If you want fresh sushi, this is the place to go to.

My son ordered a hand roll sushi with other dishes. The hand roll came with other dishes. Nori (sea weed) was wrinkled up and spicy tuna was tasted old. He asked me to taste it and I agreed with him. The tuna was not fresh and after taste of the tuna was awful.

When I ever come pick up food here the Asian workers there are sooo rude ! I try to ignore, but I had it with their rudeness . They do not make you feel welcome, I don’t know if this is cause I’m Hispanic, but it’s always people like me they are rude too. I know because I have talked to Other customers that have experience this. I will never come pick up food here (doordash ) .

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our Udon came out with a fruit fly in the soup, and the tempura shrimp was still freezer cold. The katsu don was extremely salty, and poorly made. When we walked in, the entire restaurant had a heavy burning scent, which we later found out was because the kitchen had recently burnt a fish. This is not acceptable or edible food. 0/5.

Delicious, fresh Sushi!!! Their specials are delicious, their rolls are creative and yummy. Have a nice selection of sake, quite a few are local from Emeryville. Sho Chiku Bai Nigori(unfiltered), Sierra cold sake, hakutsuru draught sake, karantaba dry sake. Fresh oysters. I would recommend to go easy on the ponzu sauce, they tend to have a heavy hand.
