It’s hands down the best restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. Super close to the train station, and has an amazing natural and organic wine selection. The cocktails are really tasty too!I also highly recommend their brunch menu.

My wife & I had the most amazing lunch Sunday at @mayfield.oc in #SanJuanCapistrano.Our waitress was Katelyn who was fantastic & made excellent recommendations.My wife had the #Burrata salad with #peaches. Everything about Mayfield is lovely. I didnt eat anything that I didnt likelove. The labneh dip with dates is, of course, pleasantly sweet. The focaccia wedges are generous, for sure. The pork chop was so good, and I cant not mention the beet greens. I dont know what they dress those with but it was so good! The charred Cabbage was 100% worth the order. Seriously, everything was just delicious. I highly suggest a glass of the sauvignon blanc you can see noted on my receipt.

This is a great place for amazing cocktails. We got focaccia bread that was very fresh. Highly recommend the buccaneer cocktail. We arrived at 3 and unfortunately the kitchen was closed until 5 which was disappointing as we were looking forward to their food too. Overall, lovely ambiance and great drinks.

Nice spot for Mediterranean delights and nicely crafted cocktails. My wife and I had the bread and different types of humus, cucumber, feta and other dips. The cocktails were terrific and the lamb meatballs quite tasty. The service was terrific and establishment quite clean with a nice ambiance. My wife had the eggplant dish which was well prepared and quite tasty as well.Recommend

Absolutely recommend. One of the best meals I have had in a while. We did the supper club menu with 4 people and it was perfect. Each dish was delicious and thoughtfully prepared and had its own different spin on it. The cocktails are also bomb. Perfect for a date night, we will be back for sure!

First time visit...definitely wont be our last! We had an outstanding dinner prior to an event we were attending at the mission. Easy parking in nearby structure and then walk to restaurant and mission. Light, airy, welcoming restaurant. Active, but not too loud. Saturday nights Supper Club menu gave us a great variety of several dishes. Plenty of fun combinations of flavors. Attentive servers made sure we were always happy, without being bothersome. Great spot in Downtown SJC. Cheers!

Exceptional food. Exceptional service. Get anything. Get everything. The porterhouse was perfect. The fried chicken was so crispy and cooked to perfection. Baba Ganoush was great! The lamb meatballs were so delicious. The cocktails were awesome! The bartenders were very helpful. The server, James, was outstanding. The manager, Lyla, checked in with us. Even the free seasoned popcorn was noteworthy. There are only a few restaurants Ive been to like this one. I cant compliment them enough.

The service at Mayfield is the spectacular. I called ahead to make sure there were some vegan options on their prefixed Friday night meal. There were and we couldn’t wait to try them. I will say we were a little disappointed when we got there to realize there was simply one choice for each vegan meal. So there weren’t really options to choose from. But they did have a single choice for us in each category. The cauliflower steak and the bread appetizers were my favorite. I look forward to coming back, I just wish they had a few more vegan options.

Cute restaurant. They whipped up the weirdest flavor combinations Ive ever had. Not that the flavors were bad, they were just wickedly different than what Im used to. To each their own! Everything is meant to share which makes it fun! You wont get out of there for less than 50 bucks a person.

Great addition to downtown SJC. from the first plate of Japanese sweet potato’s to the final plate, tomahawk steak, everything was delicious. The ambiance and the service was perfect amd all the food just tastes and looked so fresh. The only thing i had an issue with was beer selection, no ipa’s just hazy’s, but i just had an old fashion instead. lol i will be back for sure.

What an awesome addition to SJC! Was walking by and it was their opening night. The environment is more like being in NYC or LA then OC - very fresh ‘spot on’ warm contemporary atmosphere. My friend and I had the beef meat balls with couscous. The meatballs were rustic with many authentic flavors, excellent! We ended up sharing 2 servings. The wine selection was nice and very reasonably priced. Can’t wait until they are fully open. Sure they will be become a destination for dinner here in town!

Loved our dinner at Mayfield. Beautiful space, lovely service and amazing flavors. We went on an ala carte night to celebrate our anniversary. The steak was as juicy and flavorful as you’d want and everything else on the plate knocked us out: the broccolini, artichoke and purée. Of course the Rip and Dip is a must starter. Very inventive dishes from the chef. Will return!

I was in the LA area on a business trip and decided to make a quick visit to San Juan Capistrano and after visiting the Mission ended up in this place for lunch. Wonderful experience! Food was well prepared, well presented and prices are reasonable compared to other places in this area. I ordered the Cauliflower Shawarma and the Grain Bowl (pictures attached). The white balls on the Grain Bowl are poached eggs, so perfectly done that they almost like sour cream! Even my lemonade was well crafted and nicely presented. Among all places I ate in this trip, this was my favorite.

The food itself was very good, however, there was not enough bread provided for the dips and the Shakshuka. We had a party of 6 and ordered several sharable dips that required bread, but came with only one piece per dish. We needed more and asked for extra to finish the food. When we got the check, we were charged $2 per piece of bread. So just a heads up when you order.

Disappointing all around.This place is super hipster and cute, a lot of potential, but the drinks food and service were all mediocre, at best.We came for drinks and a small bite, ordered a couple cocktails that were okay, nothing special and not strong. And also ordered the burrata, also nothing special. The worst part of the experience was the service. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was terrible. He was not friendly or helpful, we had to flag him down to order a drink and to close our tab, he didn’t check on us, when we were the only ones at the bar… Not to mention he proceeded to clean and shine the bar glasses RIGHT in front of where we were sitting the entire time we were there, which was very invasive and uncomfortable. He should have done that elsewhere considering the entire bar was open (it was a slow Sunday night). I was tempted to ask if we were in his way. He made us feel uncomfortable and unwanted. We left quickly bc it was not enjoyable.

Service was excellent. Food was 50/50. Pork belly was so dry it tasted more like an overcooked pork chop. Something Ive actually never witnessed, would strongly recommend avoiding. Zatar fried chicken was great, as were the sauces that came with it. Overall very hit or miss food wise. For the price would not recommend to anyone I liked.

We were there celebrating a birthday. So disappointing and nothing from what we were expecting from what was represented online. The staff was amazing and ontop of things. The atmosphere was good. But was very disappointing with everything else. 1st the food was ridiculous over priced for what was served. They took advantage to charge for everything. We were in a small group. We ordered a 6 different types of food. Vegan items too. Overpriced hummus and other dips ( they gave about 2 tablespoons worth each) we ordered and if we wanted bread to dip the dips. We were charge per small triangle of bread. We said ok whatever. Then because they say they have the smallest kitchen so we got one plate at a time and the tables next to us too? Really 15 - 20 minutes per plate. Lets not about mention that the chicken we ordered. We took some bites that tasted good until we got to the raw and bloody part. Disgusting. The server took it and apologized and we let them try to fix the situation but the replacement one came out raw and bruised chicken. And the steak was unchewable. We barely ate each a couple of bites. Would never come back again.

In short, this is a place for hipsters not families. The food and presentation are good, but also somewhat lazy. The wait staff put in an effort, but in all the wrong ways. Let me explain. We found this place with the expectations of getting true North African/Mediterranean cuisine. We made a Sunday night reservation, and arrived 15 minutes prior to the 615 reservation . The host made a show of seeing what she could do. The resturant was empty and the got us a seat soon after our request. The resturant was nice inside, the music was a little loud to have regular conversation, but not over the top. Once we sat down the waitess came to start our order. She was nice, but again very showy, calling us her darlings and her loves. She explained the format for dining as family style (using about 10 more sentences). We were with our two small children (8 and 9 yo) one of whom is vegetarian, and were told the kids options were fried chicken with cuisecus or fried chicken with fries. Of course nothing was as straight forward in ordering, as you would expect from a hipster resturant. The food came out. It was genuinely good, but the portions were small for the price. Despite waiting over an hour, we did not get one of the items we ordered (chicken). By this time my wife was clearly frustrated and hungry. We asked to just pay for what we received and leave. The waitress was dutiful, but never said anything about the chicken not coming out. She had already included a 20% tip for herself when I went to pay the bill. On the way out, I noted that multiple people who had come in after us were eating the chicken we had waited for so patiently. Needless to say, it was clear that our waitress had forgotten to put in our complete order. We left out of frustration that one of our children didnt have a reasonable option for a vegetarian child, and one person did not gait the main meal. For this reason, I can not recommend this restaurant.

We came in to this restaurant with a party of 7. We sat down ordered our wine and cocktails. The waitress came back to take our order, people in our party wanted to ADD Yukon gold potatoes to our order and that’s absolutely not something they’re willing do.We ordered a pork chop- had good review from the person who ordered it.The chicken came out RAW for both orders, we sent it back.They then sent out the chicken a second time and it was blackened and charred. We wouldn’t know if it was raw or not because we were KICKED OUT of the restaurant because the waitress felt like we were harassing her. We had asked her to turn up our heat but she informed us a table who sat down after us requested to turn it down and did not check with us first.The owner came out to us and said word for word “I am going to comp this meal but you need to finish up and leave immediately” without trying to make things better. I wish we were hassling or difficult but we didn’t want to eat raw chicken, we wanted to order extra potatoes and we didn’t want to be cold. Apparently we were unfit to eat here.We are all business owners, we all know how to conduct ourselves professionally and George the owner was absolutely out of line.What a massive disappointment and everyone will know about it.I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. This experience was bad specifically because of the way the owner conducts himself.

AMAZING restaurant!!! Everything was excellent, from the service, the quality of the food, and the entire dining experience! Our server Jessie was amazing!! She was so accommodating on several reasons.The first one was that we requested to have no bread for the dips, and she gave us fresh and crisp vegetables to go with them.Secondly, we were getting cold outside, and I asked if we could turn up the heater. Jessie stated that she had to ask a couple next to us if they were okay with the heater going up. They gave the Okay and so she was able to get the heater up!Jessie was so incredibly hospitable, funny, and made our experience that much more amazing (on top of the INCREDIBLE FOOD we had!) Loved the fried eggplant and the shawarma cauliflower appetizers. Lamb shank was a good concept but dry and overcooked. Confit duck leg was dry and overcooked and way over priced. Service was slow. Prices generally were high. Did not think the indoor dining room was inviting and was out of keeping with the prices. Outside patio was very nice.

I made a reservation on the phone 2 days before i intended to visit. Spoke to someone for 5 minutes and was told a reservation was made. When we arrived at restaurant Jillian couldnt find the reservation. Since it was our anniversary, we were very disappointed. The reservation was for outdoors. When the manager came to speak with us, she said they were very busy, we could sit at the window seat facing the street -no thank you. The manager, Amber did nothing to remedy their mistake. what a horrible experience. Don’t bother making a reservation as they don’t honor it and the hostess and manager make no attempt to provide a positive experience.

My girlfriend and I wanted to try a new place to eat and found Mayfield on Yelp. The pictures didnt do the place justice. It was a light and comforting atmosphere and the service was awesome. I believe our waiters name was James and the food runners (tall, curly hair) was Max, both of whom were fantastic. The food was super cool and different. Will definitely be back soon!

We had a great meal there last night. Started with the cauliflower shawarma and the Kampachi crudo. Great flavors in both dishes. We ended with the Za’atar fried chicken and Lamb meatballs. The dipping sauces with the chicken were worth the price of admission, alone! The lamb meatballs were delicately seasoned and were served with Israeli couscous. Fantastic time and atmosphere. We’re going back to try the rest of the menu.

Very nice looking establishment when viewed from street side so gave it a try. Take it from 25 years in hospitality, avoid!!! Maybe it’s the tourist locale, don’t know, but the service is terrible and it wasn’t all that busy. Seated at the bar in view of 4 or more persons working, took maybe 10 minutes to get an acknowledgement and then another 5 to actually place an order. Ordered a latte and witnessed the barista smell testing whatever she was making. When the coffee arrived it was served by a food runner and not the person who took the order from behind the bar. Kind of impersonal. Coffee was delivered without a spoon nor sweetener, guess you have to ask. It also came with a pool of coffee in the saucer, nice touch.I was prepared to order some food, but nobody actually asked if I would like anything else at which point I became frustrated and decided I’d had enough of this establishment. Attempted to pay cash but apparently they don’t take cash, so I put the six or seven dollar latte on my debit card and left a cash tip, which I assume they’ll except. At departure, I asked to speak to the manager who seem too busy to take the time speak to me so I left, and now I’m leaving this review. Too bad on them.

If you enjoy good food, you need to understand that san juan capistrano is not where its found. Our server had too many tables and although friendly, was lacking in proper training. The food was fine. When you dont finish a chocolate pudding for dessert, you know something is wrong.

C/N: between 4 and 5 on this one, food and flavors were varied and excellent so I gave 5. Service was a bit on the SoCal lackadaisical is the only reason I was debating.Not what I was expecting. Heavy on the vegetarian options, an awesome mix of Mediterranean and Asian flavors with fresh Ca ingredients. The rip and dip starter was lacking a Flatbread but otherwise excellent. Flavors, textures, fats unique and balanced across all six dips. The red pepper, baba ganoush, and whipped feta were favs.The kamachi crudo was perfect IF you separate the radishes from the rest. Cucumber froth with a bunch of flavors I couldnt identify came together spectacularly. Radishes were a great palate cleanse, totally overwhelming if with the rest of the dish. Think of them like the ginger for Sushi.Corn ribs were made by the lime leaf aioli. Think elote on the cob with a lime Wasabi. Yeah, its good.Best were the octopus and then budinho(sp?)Octopus is kinda Spanish style, but with a whole Lotta different flavors. Mustard seed, balsamic?, cherry tomatoes and a whole lot more.Budinho(might have totally fd this up, its the chocolate dessert) is high end nutella-ish flavor but light like mousse and has a mint shaved ice in the middle. Refreshing and delicious.Skip: the Panna cotta thing, the glacè has a lot of zest/pith in it and kinda has a soap thing going on. Not the way to end a meal.

Excellent dining experience and one of the best meals we’ve had! Every dish was interesting and exquisite. Lots of vegetarian options. Lyla, our server, was knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Can’t wait to come back - with some friends - in order to enjoy the (very large) Rip and Dip assortments!

Horrible customer service will never come back, too bad we did not even get to try their food or drinks to try and compensate for the way we were treated. I will say the host at the entrance was very nice, one of the bartenders and waitress not so much. Please train your staff on how to treat customers that want to spend time and money in your establishment, especially as business start to re-open during these times.

Not sure why the girl with the tatted arms told the hostess to tell us that they couldnt accommodate our party of 6 when its only 5 oclock on a sunday and they close at 10pm. Restaurant was half capacity too... guess they dont want our money.
