I have enjoyed authentic Thai food all the way from Thailand, to different places around the continental United States, and have to honestly say this place doesnt hold a candle to other Thai restaurants abroad, much less in Chico. Try at your own risk, but ask yourself if you are willing to gamble your hard earned money for overpriced unauthentic Thai food, and shady business practices.I put in a phone order which I picked up shortly before closing, and noticed that I had received the wrong order when I got home. Waste of $20, not including the tip. This was my second trip to this place, in hopes that the mediocre food that my Family and I ate the first time, would be better. I called the next business day, and informed Drew of the mishap. He took my information, and informed me that my order would be replaced free of charge. Where it really gets hairy is when I call ahead of time to put in the replacement order a couple of days later, return to pick up what I originally was supposed to receive, and was informed by Drew upon arrival (after he tried to charge me) that the owner wasnt honoring the replacement order, nor would a refund be provided. This occurred despite having my receipt in hand, having paid in cash, to include a picture of what I previously received as proof...If this doesnt raise red flags to new potential customers (especially those paying with cash), I dont know what will. Mekkala Thai Cuisine owned by Nicole Khamphasong is as dishonest as they come. Ask yourself if you want to support local businesses who choose to lie, cheat, and steal from customers in a small community where word gets around fast.

Ive only had the pad Thai ToGo a few times and each time was the best decision I made all week. I usually dont tip when I pick up food but the person taking my order was so damn friendly, he got $5 from me.

Lovely restaurant! Family owned, and son/host Alex was very friendly and helpful in our ordering. I got the eggplant and crispy tofu. Eggplant was phenomenal texture, crispy and seared exterior and silky tender on inside. Mild level sauce is so flavorful. Crispy tofu is light and spongy, were not sure what magic they use but it was perfect. Homemade golden sweet sour sauce pairs wonderfully. Not pictured: green salad and oolong tea. This was a great afternoon meal, thanks for having us.

Wonderful experience here at Mekkala Thai Cuisine. The staff was very friendly and accommodating for our large party that stayed a while after they close. The Pineapple Fried Rice was phenomenal, and the portions were large enough to take some home. Ive been to a few Thai places in town, but not yet Mekkala, and let me tell you, this will be my new go-to.

My first time here and I can say they have elegant table setting, the place is neat including their restroom. I love the food that we ordered and the portion size is a lot. We are only 2 but its already good for 4. We dont have to get their attention to refill our drinks because they will just ask you right away. Staff are very attentive to their customer. Including the cook and servers theyre like 5 or 6 but all of them are very energetic and the vibes are so positive.

I greatly preferred the other Thai restaurants in town to this one. Food taste and location are better at the other places. Caution - their food is spicy so be ready. Spicier than normal for Thai food in my opinion.

I decided to take my hubby for a late lunch. We were cheerfully greeted by a smiling young man, who led us to our table and took our drink order (water) after handing us menues.I asked of him his favorite dish, and he rhapsodized about an Eggplant Dish (which I ultimately ordered, Thai Hot). Soon, the server arrived and took our orders. (He is the owners son.) Hubby had the Red Curry Mixed Seafood, which he loved.I loved what I had, and it was hot enough for me. Everything was wonderful!!!

We have come here in the past and it is always good Thai food. It had been a while, and I was a bit disappointed they got rid of the lunch menu, but at least the portions match up to the prices of the regular menu well. Never had a bad experience at this restaurant and will continue to eat here in the future.

Talk about the friendliest host ever! The young man serving us was so kind. The food was amazing. One at our table had the pineapple fried rice and it looked amazing. One had the pad thai drama, one had the papaya salad, and I had the traditional pad thai with a little spice. Everything was fantastic! As we were leaving we thanked the young man, and told him everything was delicious! He said thank you, and that hed let his mom know, since she was the one back there cooking. Omg, and the best part mine was gluten free!!! Absolutely amazing! I cant wait To go back.

This food here is so amazing. For starters, they have (I believe) 6 different levels of heat, so you can pick whats right for you instead of burning your tongue off, or having no heat at all. The service is spectacular, and was really helpful. The Pad Thai Drama is my definite go-to. And you absolutely have to top it off with the deep fried bananas for dessert. I ate every bite of food on my plates, including appetizers and desserts. The salad, and the cucumber salsa with the appetizer were both out of this world. The price is reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity of your food. The wait time is bearable, as well. One of the few places in Chico that I have nothing negative I can possibly say about it.

Delicious Thai food - all around good food and good service.The chicken satay appetizer was perfect. My disappointment was the nam tok (beef salad) which is one of my favorite Thai dishes. Ive had it served on a bed of frsh green lettuce with chunks of tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion, and shredded carrots. My meal tonight was on pale iceberg lettuce, a couple shreds of carrot and red onion, and thst was it for $20. However, the steak.was delicious. My son ordered the pad thai with chicken, and got the BIGGEST portion of pad thai Ive ever seen, and it was tasty.***CAUTION!*** - listen closely to the spice descriptions from your server. There were 6 options - mild, mild plus, medium, medium plus, hot, and Thai hot. They are on the hot side. I went with mild plus and it was too hot for me - I sipped away 2 glasses of water during my meal. I prefer just a very mild kick so I should have taken our server more seriously. 😁 My fault. She told us that the spice is hotter than what is typical. My son ordered medium and was able to eat it but wished he had ordered his one step milder.All in all a great experience - would definitely eat there again when visiting Chico.Oh, and you get 1 free refill on the Thai tea!!

We have been ordering/visiting this restaurant for years. Consistent quality cuisine but lately we have noticed skimping on vegetable, shrimp dishes and smaller portions. We understand the pressures of current stressors, but at these prices there should be a way to provide substantial meals.

Ordered the laab nam tok in hottest spice level. Waiter informed us that the spice level wasnt your normal spice level. I was asked by our waiter if I was sure thats that I wanted and confirmed it twice. I shouldnt have to confirm my choice twice but its okay. Not a big problem.The nam tok came out exactly as intended.....spicy 🔥🔥🔥! Definitely hit the spot on the spice level and went perfectly with sticky rice and cold beer. Great job to the chef.

I used to love the food here.Recently I ordered some of my favorites. Pad tiNoodles and l like the fried rice.. both were tasteless and the fried rice was over cooked. I am experiencing the taste, quality and quality of the food here become very poor. Its a shame.It was a great place to grab traditional thi food in this area.

Some of the best Thai food Ive ever had! We had the rice and chicken soup, SO yummy! And the pineapple chicken and Pad Thai. Lily, our server, have a clear understanding of each of the spice levels and was very accurate in describing the mild plus. The mild plus was just enough heat to cause our tongue to tingle and nose to slightly start to run. PERFECT! Such a cute and pretty atmosphere, inside and on the patio...even the plates are stylish.Parking is easy enough, there are no stairs and all is very clean.

Although my most recent experience wasnt great, I have been here enough times to know that is not normal.During my most recent visit the kitchen seemed overwhelmed and unable to keep up with demand. Customers were getting frustrated, and the waitress was friendly but clearly stressed and stretched thin. The food was not up to its normal standards. The rice was mushy, spice levels were inconsistent, and chicken was tough.However of the 20 or so times I have been here, this is the only time I have had a complaint. I will still go back, and still feel it is one of the best Thai restaurants in Chico.

My favorite Thai restaurant in Chico! It has a very pleasant atmosphere. Servers seemed friendly and attentive. I love their green curry, and their Mekkala eggplant is terrific. Excellent food for around $12 to $15 per person.

I have been continually impressed by Mekkala Thai. The Tom Yum soup may be the BEST Tom Yum I have ever had in my 20+ years of enjoying Thai food. That said, their food is high quality with flavors that absolutely pop! There is a unique quality in their dishes, in little details like they way they cut and cook their vegetables in the curries, allowing you to taste the flavor of each individually. I highly recommend!

The food is truly delicious and is always fresh and presented well on the plate. Always seems clean. Love that they offer Thai iced tea refills.I wouldnt mind paying their higher prices if the portions matched the price. The last time we were in I got like 1.5 cups of vegetables and probably 1/4 cup of chicken. It was very surprising how much they chintzed (my own made-up word?) on the chicken. I sent it back and it came back out with a little more, still less than I would have preferred but I wasnt gong to beat a dead horse. Have had less-than-satisfactory service in the past but has improved in the last few visits.Im not sure if they only offer one refill on the Thai iced tea by I noticed I was conveniently(?) given a refill while my glass was still half-full and wasnt offered another one.I would give 5 stars and visit more often if I didnt feel like they were kind of on the stingy side with portions and such.

Got Pad Thai with soup and egg rolls. Egg rolls were ok, but the sweet and sour sauce was a different color than what I am used too and it had a thick syrupy consistency. Soup was awful, tasted like Campbells chicken and rice with bits of ginger in it. Pad Thai was good and is the reason this review has at least 3 stars.

I was craving Thai food and wanted to try a different place---Mekkala did not disappoint!! In fact, probably the best Thai food Ive had in Chico in a long while. Ordered red curry, beef salad, and appetizer sampler. Curry and appetizers were still hot when I got home. Thai beef salad was on point, plenty of tender beef slices, red onion, mild chili spice, and herbs with that salty and sour, kinda pungent dressing Im addicted to, on a bed of lettuce---love it. Egg rolls and chicken satay were bigger than others Ive had---chicken was tender, not rubbery or dry as I have had from other places in the past---served with a delicious house made yellow color sweet and sour type of sauce. Red curry was steaming when I got home (yes, literally steaming hot), packed with a heap of fresh vegetables---and it was a good variety of crisp tender vegetables, not soggy or overcooked (and no disappointing loads of canned baby corn and canned bamboo shoots... ) Ordered the Mild+ spice level which was spot on, spicy hot chili oil and chili flakes swirling on top with the coconut milk, but not so much to make it unenjoyable. It was that addictive spice, that makes you sweat a little like a crack addict (spoon after spoon), but it wasnt burn your mouth to the point you couldnt enjoy it. On another note, I find a lot of Thai places make their curries too sweet, red curry generally seems to be the least sweet IMO. Mekkala red curry had a superb balance of spices, heat and sweetness with plenty of that lovely Thai basil herb. They informed me on the phone that curries were a $1.00 extra due to some sort of coconut milk shortage or supply issue---WORTH IT!! IDC! Take my money! P.S. felt bad for the nice young man who dropped the receipt printer/card reader (it totally broke) and they had pretty much just opened for dinner service...he said something like, oh no...im boned! Sorry bro, feels bad. However, if I have to pay with cash or gemstones...so be it! IDC! Take my money! Just dont stop making your delicious food. Thank You!

I consider myself a foodie so I am picky. This place is easily the best Thai in Butte county. Authentic, the owner/chef is from Thailand. All food is cooked to order so allergies can be addressed easily(the wait staff even ask!) Be careful of the spice, its authentic as well. Great staff, very clean place. If you dont live in north chico its worth the drive. Great business lunch place( I would take a date here too). Oh and....the mango sticky rice....OMG amazing..must try.

Wads take out order. The meals ordered came with white rice. They foergot to give white rice when called were not apologetic. Went to pick up rice they were not ready and had to wait. No regret shown. Were not apologetic at all. Rude and no customer service etiquette.shown saying give u extra rice not even asking how can we compensate for your trouble. Vegetarian option was delicious. Thai ice tea comes with either cream or coconut cream, and 1 free refill. I dont know of any Thai place that does that. The service was quick and friendly. We were warned that their spice levels are quite high, and they were right. The medium was easily as hot as most places hot or perhaps even Thai hot. You have been warned!

This place is great. The veggies taste fresh out of the garden. Not surprising since almost everything is grown locally on the family farm. They are closed Sat and Sun in order to grow the veggies and it is obvious in the food.Everything cooked to order, vegan and gluten free friendly for all but as couple of menu items. Menu not extensive but doesnt need to be.

Soooo disappointed with this place, because Thai is my FAVORITE food and they are so close to my house, but literally rhe most expensive Thai for small portions, bad service, and moderate tasting thai. My eggplant wasnt cooked thoroughly and it was crunchy and bitter one of the times. Another time I got an order to go and they were rude on the phone and when I came to get it, plus it was $16 for one small size entre! Thai Express is wayyyyy cheaper and they give you enough for like 5 meals. Bummed that I would recommend any Thai place over this one.

So we walk in at 830 and the waitress said the kitchen closes at 845 even tho online and on the door says 9 o’clock . But the kitchen closed early today . So she says that the we can do a Togo order if you want .( but If the kitchen is closed how can you do a Togo order? Makes no sense) food is pretty good here but the staff is terrible . Just had the Traditional Pad Thai, medium+ hot....delicious!!🔥😌😁 Cant get enough of that Pad Thai flavor.Excellent seafood curry in varying degrees of heat (as you like it). Also, the ChuChee Salmon is to die for (fried salmon with a peanutbuttery sauce. Best ordered with some spice as the sweetness of the peanut sauce will counterbalance perfectly. A glass of cold Chardonnay will accompany nicely(at least it has for us on numerous occasions). Fried bananas will sweeten the deal in the end. Go for it...you know you want to.

I love this place. I live in SoCal but travel every couple weeks. I am lucky to work literally accross the street from Mekkala when Im here. I make it a point to have almost every lunch here. The staff know my my name and are very friendly. The food is amazing. My favorite dish is Tofu Pad Thai (hot). The sauces are hand made with care. Even the pre-lunch side salad is great.

The problem is 2 other tables were seated after us & they ordered after us received there soups and salads before we did. Shes white & so were the other customers. We arent. I was excited to try this Thai food place. When I walked in the restaurant was fairly empty at 6pm on Thursday evening. This was good news for me since I had saved my appetite for a new Thai food experience. I stood by the front by the sign that said wait to be seated for about 10 mins..with the occasional glance from the servers. Finally I was seated, in a corner but hey its cool, I am here for the food anyway right. After about 15 mins of not even a drink order I notoced a gentleman waiting up front and overheard him tell the greeter that he wanted to place a to go order. Which the server proceeded to take. Now its been about 30 minstrel since Ive been seated. The server glanced over at me and hurriedly headed back to the kitchen. The two tables of guests must have been overwhelming.I decided to leave. I stood up looked around to tell someone I would not need anything, but I couldnt get anyones attention and departed.I may try a to go order again here, but wont be back for inside dinning. I cant recommend this place for the above reasons . It is out of the way as well.

Ive been to three Thai restaurants in Chico and five Thai restaurants in Redding. While Mekkala doesnt have spring rolls (which is one of my favorite dishes), their curries are absolutely the best! My favorite is their Mussaman Curry (the cinnamon adds the perfect touch) which is a special they have on a monthly basis. I also like how saucy their Pad Thai is. The environment inside the restaurant is eloquent yet casual, and their outside patio is very pleasant.

I was not pleased with the Tom Yum (Hot and Sour Soup). I paid $13. It came with 5 prawns and the only vegetables in the soup were crimini mushrooms (almost raw) and tomatoes (also almost raw). The broth was so salty I couldnt even eat it. The container was not even full. If it wasnt take-out, I would have asked for my money back.

Entree Express - Ordered lunch special PadSee-Ew which states on the website, Comes with steamed white rice. Didnt get the rice, called and the man said noodle dishes dont come with rice. Change the website to reflect this!!! Wont be going back and will tell everyone I know not to go there. They need to honor their menu and learn customer service.

Their chicken panang is perfection in my mouth. I literally want to lick the plate when I’m done eating but stop myself from doing so sometimes, just to avoid public humiliation or ridicule. So instead I sneak the empty plate into the ladies room, lick it, and then place it back onto the table to be bussed.
