A co-worker of mine recommended this restaurant and told me that I should try it out. Im glad he did, because right now this is my favorite restaurant to get ramen. The broth and all the ingredients really blend well and create the most flavorful experience. The DX Blazen is currently my favorite and if you like duck I suggest you add it. Highly recommended!

We ordered two of the deluxe pork ramen bowls for dinner last night and they were FANTASTIC. I don’t often write reviews, but this is one of the few places in Marin serving outstanding, SF level, food so I want to support them. Highly recommended.

The best ramen in the Bay Area! They make their own ramen noodle and hands down the best texture pairing with their super flavorful chicken broth. If this is In Berkeley or in San Jose, the line would be out the door. Can’t wait to come back!

Very delicious ramen and great service! We had the Ginjo Duck Shoyu Ramen, the Toripaitan Ramen and the enoki tempura. The prices were very reasonable, especially given the high quality of the food. We’ll definitely be back!

Today I went to downtown San Rafael to eat at a place that turned out to be closed. So, we went looking for lunch.I noticed this Ramen shop had changed from its previous restaurant status (a different Ramen shop last time I went I think, its been 3 years I think) to Menya Shono. Decided to give it a go.My wife and I both had the DX-Blaze. Nothing else.By the time we left we were truly delighted. We felt nourished. The food was truly delicious; uncommonly delicious.My wife just said three hours later, My belly is still celebrating.The service was basic, professional, and on point. Tips are included at 15%.The only hiccup was the table side online ordering system via stripe. I just didnt work. This was frustrating. So, they kindly took our order manually and let us pay via credit card. Nothing to worry about.People should come from far away to eat this food. Its that good. We are lucky. We live close. We will be back soon.

This was not as good as I’d hoped. Got the “creamy chicken ramen” and the broth (which is served separately) was like chicken gravy, not like a soup at all. No paper menus, 15% gratuity is automatically applied (it’s described as a “gratuity free establishment “) and as soon as you submit your order, your credit card is charged, which I thought was really weird

Their food is excellent. I always get the toripaitan ramen which comes with perfectly cooked eggs, toppings, well cooked pork and a fantastic, thick and creamy broth. It also comes with 4-5 types of garlic preparations which imparts a unique flavor to the broth.My only complaint is that it is VERY hard to make reservations. They do not have any online link to make reservations (theres one on Yelp but its a broken link) and if you call their number NO ONE EVER PICKS UP. Funnily enough, even though they dont seem to have a robust system to make reservations, they will ask if you have a reservation when you arrive, which is ironic and slightly annoying. If you go there without reservations, you scan a QR code to join the wait list which is usually a wait time of 15-30 minutes. You order on your device by scanning another QR code and they bring you your food once its ready. Another big drawback is that they seldom check on you, so in case you need anything youll have to flag a server down. They have incredible food but they really need to work on an app or atleast add a phone number where someone answers and be better at checking on customers. However if you can get a table, the food is absolutely worth it!

I moved back to SF in 2021 after spending the past 27 years (half my life) living and working in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. Ive probably eaten over 2,000 bowls of ramen in those 27 years.In the year that Ive been back Ive tried a number of recommended ramen shops in the Bay Area. So far, this craft ramen at Menya Shono is about the closest Ive had to authentic Japanese ramen. I loved it.Ordered the spicy Enoki mushrooms and the DX Tori Paitan Ramen $19. The difference between the Classic Tori Paitan $16.50 and the DX Tori Paitan is the inclusion of an ajitama egg, and a thick slab of chashu. The richness of the thick soup is excellent! The wheat noodles are thicker than I prefer, but they were obviously hand made and delicious. If you are looking for an authentic Tori Paitan ramen, I feel this is solid!! The only thing I would do differently next time is to ask them to exclude the chopped garlic! Too much garlic for me, but thats just personal preference.

I eat a lot of ramen (both in the Bay Area and across Japan) and can say without a doubt this is one of the best spots you can go to. I always get the DX Ramen and it is a struggle to not inhale it, which you can see with the person across from me that looks like they only got started. Marin County is plagued with the same bistro/pizza place on every corner, to have a REAL ramen spot not another 2nd rate sushi place with 4th rate soup (if you can even call them that), is life changing. I have no idea why this place doesnt have 5 stars because it deserves all that and more!! I eat here every Saturday for lunch and it is so great I dont haveto drive to Oakland/SF/San Jose for great ramen. Please please give this place your business, especially if you are sick of the same exact pizza-pasta-burger thats on every corner here. This is REAL ramen, REAL ingredients, REAL love put into the dishes. I am so grateful this is here because growing up in Marin we are deprived of excellent food. Thank you Menya Shono for opening a location here, it feels like im back in Japan. ❤

Having sampled many of the most popular ramen restaurants in the Bay, Menya Shono is the real deal. I feel very lucky to have such a quality ramen spot here in San Rafael. Although it’s worth mentioning; the service is conducted entirely through a mobile phone… and we found it pretty difficult to get the attention of a staff member for simple requests like glasses of water and table settings. But what they lacked in customer service was made up in quality of food. If you like spicy options, go with the Blaze Ramen… it’s phenomenal.

I go here constantly with my japanese mother. I always enjoy the food. But the ordering of the food is so inconvenient. My mom doesnt have smart could never come here alone. Service is sub par and I dont mind tipping but I like to do after service and even tip more is service is good. That is my major complaint.

This ramen shop strays from most Tonkotsu ramen spots by using chicken broth. A little pricey for what it is.What I liked:The Chashu was phenomenal, best I’ve had in the states.The tare was full of umami and had nice notes of ginger.The noodles were excellent, and they give you a big portion, no need for kaedama.What I didn’t like:The price is a little high for what it is, heck it’s Marin; but still wish ramen was priced relatively closer to ramen in Japan.The broth needed some work. Perhaps it’s the use of chicken, but the broth seemed a little murky. Flavor was decent and stands out from other ramen spots.Overall good ramen spot, pricey but good. Looking forward to a larger beer selection, also where’s the togarashi powder?

This was my first visit after reading about this authentic Japanese chain opening up on 4th St. San Rafael. With so many businesses and restaurants closings on this main street in town, I wanted to see if it was making a positive addition . It wasnt busy, and the waiter was prompt in giving me a table . What he didnt tell me after being seated that they have a system of ordering from the menu by doing a scan of a card at the table. I dont scan anything. When I asked for a menu, he explained their scanning system. He did give me a printed menu from under a counter and said customers pay first before being served their order . So something different. I did like finishing my food and being able to just walk out . I guess this definitely prevents customers from walking out before paying for their meal .

Waited 50 minutes for ramen that was impossible to eat, extremely salty. Order was incomplete and still charged us full price, they promised a refund but I honestly dont think they will do it. Waiters arent necessarily rude, they just provide little to no service. They barely talk to customers and direct everyone to use the app. Will not go there again! There isnt really many Ramen shops in Marin, let alone ones that serve vegetarian/vegan ramen. The ones that do, normally have a basic, flavorless, veggie broth that tastes of salt water. That is not my experience here. I normally head to SF or East Bay for my ramen but I am so grateful to have a place to get flavorful, delicious, crave worthy ramen. Creamy flavorful broth, veggie protein, packed full of veggies. It has become my favorite. My partner ate the Toripaitan Ramen and enjoyed it as well. I ordered on a Monday, gave me an estimated time of 20 minutes to pick up, and it was ready before that time. When ever I go in, regardless of how busy, the staff is always kind and personable. I dont normally write reviews but I really really want this place to stick around. It deserves it. Thank you for making my night 🙏✨

Food is good but they are severely understaffed during weekends. Customers are waiting 20-30 min just to be seated (even with reservation) when there is clearly several tables available. Food is taking nearly an hour to get prepared and its not even that busy. Dont bother making a reservation they just seat whoever is closest to the counter first. Overall I really liked the ramen but the chaos during the weekends makes me not want to go there.

Very rich bowl, broth was super concentrated, too salty and heavy for me. Expected some richness since it’s supposed to be given the type of ramen, but it was more like a gravy. A huge fan of Mensho in San Francisco, we were delighted to see Menya Shono open in San Rafael. We went at 6 pm on a Monday and there was plenty of open seating, both indoor and outdoor. Our server took good care of us, and we enjoyed that they had dog-friendly outdoor seating out in front of the restaurant. Also loved that we could order and pay by QR code. The ramen was fantastic - the only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is the vegan ramen was extremely salty, so that I was unable to eat much of it. This was not the case with my partners pork-based ramen, so it must have been specific to the vegan broth. Hopefully just a one-time occurrence, as I am hoping to go back!

If I could give minus stars, I would. This is one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten all over the world. I had the vegan ramen which was bizarrely creamy (non-dairy at least). But all the ramen for our party of five was creamy. We were all Chinese except me, and none of us had ever had creamy ramen before. It’s utterly gross! Ramen should be in a broth, in my opinion, and not be sickly from cream. I couldn’t eat more than a few bites of my food. Also, although they make the ramen on site, it is entirely unremarkable, more like spaghetti than ramen. Plus they wanted to charge us $2 extra when we asked for additional spices. No restaurant or food truck I’ve ever been to has charged extra for spices! The only thing halfway edible was the enoki tempura, but I really wish I’d never entered to eat. My wife had diarrhea directly afterward and I thought I was going to throw up in the car.

The best ramen I have ever tasted. Both dishes were the best ramen ever...#1 vegan ramen & #2 shio ramen. I dont even actually like ramen that much because the noodles or the broth or something is usually bland or boring, but that all changed when I met this ramen. Im in love. (originally posted on yelp)I originally came here with my mom because i wanted to try the food. We got Spicy enoki chips, Corn wings DX - GKO Ramen, and Ginjo Toripaitan ramen. The food was good but the issue was that they didnt offer takeout boxes and the guy said that he was told not to give any or something like that.We had about half a bowl of ramen left from both dishes but no boxes offered to take togo??? When they came around to fill water cups, my mom asked about the boxes. He said that they dont have any, so my mom then asked about the takeout food people come to pick up and that we wouldve been fine with that. The server(?) said he will ask about it, he NEVER came back to let us know if it was possible. We dont want to waste our food, I dont know about other diners but this place shows no care about food waste.15% mandatory service fee was also added but the only service that was provided was just water drop off at the start of the meal. No empty plates taken away even though it was put to the side for them to take. Ambiance here was ok? Its like any other food restaurant loudness.I work in a food industry and Ive never encountered such bad service to the point where empty dishes dont get taken off the table or not having any boxes given to people if they have left over food. I do not recommend coming here even if the food was good unless you dont care about service, not being able to take your leftover food to go, and having it go to waste.

This is the best ramen I have ever eaten in the United States. I am very impressed.The menu outside the store seems to be different from the online menu. The salt koji ramen is very easy to find, the soup is very good, and the noodles are thin and chewy.I couldnt finish a bowl by myself. Even if I take it home and reheat it, its very delicious. I will come back when I have time.
