We needed a break from local spots on Cesar Chavez, I took a ride to Mexicatessen on Atlantic by the Monterey Park Hospital. I had a green chili and my brother had a red chili burrito, the green chili was perfect, not to hot. They make the best green chili with pork, sometimes extremely 🔥 Hot, but always Delicious.
Established in 1954 and I can taste why they’re still in business👏🏾 some of the best food I’ve had since living in California. I give you twenty stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heard this place was the spot for Mexican food I had the pasole it tasted just like menudo it was ok kinda bland my co worker had fish tacos he said it was good but small portion he had to order another one cause 2 was not enough for him. Small portions for 27 bucks.

Great food, family run business. Have been a customer for 50 years. Try the half and half combo plate. Red and green all meat platter with rice, beans and salad. The all meat Chile burritos are the 💣. High quality ingredients, and consistency are the hallmarks of this gem in Monterey Park.
We have been going here for over 40yrs and no change with the foodtacos 🌮 are super churchy, red cities and green chilie we buy buy the pint and quart just tey 1 taco and you are guaranteed to buy more and fries 🍟 are fantastic ... 😋 you have to leave because if you stay parked there you will keep ordering more tacos 🌮

Do not get the nacho chips and guacamole sauce. Not worth it watery down ooze with regular chips and cheese. $4.+tax the burger is point and so are fries 🍟 service is excellent

A very well established restaurant that has been there since the sixties, matter of fact my sister worked there in 1969. The recipe has not changed much. I still go by a purchase their 50/50 with cheese.You will be happily rewarded, also the folks working there are wonderful people.
Ive been coming to this place since I was a little kid its always been one of my favorite spots. Half green half red burrito is excellent.
First off, there arent many places in LA where you can get food for two people for $20, let alone at this quality. My mom got nachos that were but only beautiful, but delicious. Everything is homemade, from the refried beans to the carnitas. I had a burger and fries and that was delicious as well (the fries were perfection). I dont come to this area often, but I will definitely be back here. Highly recommend!
This is without a doubt my favorite restaurant! Its got a convenient location on my commute and excellent prices, but on top of that the staff are so warm and inviting and they seem to know everybody by name! I had a burrito today that was so good it healed my SOUL. ten out of five absolutely recommend
There beans are Mexican authentic and very good. I ordered a bean and cheese which was surprisingly good. Service was very good. However, parking sucks.

Great food. good selection, good value ample portions and quick and friendly service. My family orders out here on a weekly basis and the experience is consistently very good. They will happily adjust most orders to suit your tastes.
Love their food. Breakfast burritos are great.The only issue I have is they don’t accept credit cards. Honestly I would not mind if they mark up food for credit card orders.They should look into Square reader or something.
Bought around 30 tacos so the cashier lady offered us a larger salsa togo container. Ended up missing a chicken taco so when we went back, they gave me 2 tacos to make up for it AND chili nachos. Food was delicious and their customer service is even better.

I didnt see it on menu, but pozole was suggested; was cold today. Ordered it, tacos, tostada, refried beans. All was tasty. I started coming here with my dad in the 60s. Was always a treat!
Their pozole is a must during winter.... taquitos and Chile Verde burrito are my go to. Been coming here since I was a little girl, and its been consistent with the same flavor since then. Love this place!!
Mexicatessen has been around for a long time in the Monterey Park area if you want to eat spicy food thats the place to go prices are very reasonable you could eat a nice lunch for under $10 and they have some great tacos

Been coming here since I was a kid. I grew up on the hamburger combos that used to be only a few bucks. The lady working there has seen me grow up.I highly recommend the Chile chips half n half. This is an off menu dish where they top chips with half Chile Verde n half Chile Colorado. Be warned, their Chile Verde is spicy!
This family business has been around for over 25 years which is an accomplishment in our area. The menu is small and has a few tables outdoors. Most customers are taking food home. Very reasonable pricing.

Used to live in Monterey Park but now I live almost 20 miles away and still make it a point to visit at least every two weeks or so. My favorite is the Green Chili Burrito, half green chili pork and half pinto beans, which although hot enough to send even Mexicans to the cold drinks, is exactly how a green chili burrito should taste. Plenty of the jalapeno chili flavor, and the pork is very clean with very little fat. The beans are simply the best. My long retired (Mexican) uncle-in-law comes every couple of weeks for a quart of the pinto beans, theyre that good. Clientele is mostly Mexican and Asian. In and out in just a few minutes. Quality of food is top rate and always shows a A for cleanliness.

The burrito had some serious heat and the rice & beans tasted fresh and homemade. There are a few tables outside to eat next to the small parking lot. Definitely will be back.

2023-05-17 01:46:03Nicest people work there. They greet you and care to develop relationships with returning customers. Food is authentic and not greasy. Reasonable prices too. Only thing I’d change is to add is jack cheese as another type of cheese option. Queso fresco and yellow cheddar are the only options. Cheddar cheese they use isn’t the best tasting and their flour tortillas are ok, other brands may taste better. Just some suggestions, but everything else is top notch!

2023-04-20 18:14:43I always stop in when in the area for my favorite burrito, green chili. One of the few places where the green chili is actually spicy. Maria is a real sweetheart. Shes been there for ever. Also delicious fish taco, tacos duraderas ( crispy/hard ). A bean and cheese burrito delicious as well.
