The chef here at Midori Sushi takes “eating with your eyes” to a whole new level! Here we have one dozen oysters, a sashimi platter, and delicate monkfish liver.
Food is fabulous, shame about the service. Server came twice, to take order and to provide food. No how was the food?, no would you like another drink?. No would you like anything else. We just got the bill with a polite thank you.
Very good sushi. The restaurant was clean. It was decorated with bamboo, brick, tile, etc. The waitress was very knowledgeable on the menu.
There is no right for the sushi in Tehachapi to be this good. I have been to Midori many times, because he would be an incredible chef in any big city, but we are fortunate that he is there in Tehachapi.
This is one of my favorite Sushi places in CA. Every time I pass through I stop here. Try the spicy tuna, or something with the spicy tuna, its unique and so so good. Crunchi Munchi Roll is my fav.

Are you kidding me? This is one of the best sushi Ive had. Sushi and sashimi are downright classic. The fish and other ingredients come from Japan and Korea. The chef is the owner, and takes pride in his work. What a delightful find in Tehachapi!

We couldnt order sushi because a large party had just ordered sushi. As a vegetarian, I paid $15 for basically a side of rice and a side of veggies. I would have left but the rest of my party wished to stay. The last 3 times weve been here, the service has been extremely slow.
Some have said that the sushi was as good as Japan, well there is a lot of sushi places in Japan so I guess it could be on par with some of the. The selections are good but not a lot a variation actually so it would take a nuanced palate to tell the difference. But having tried both a simple and exotic roll both were well done and worth the visit. The fried dumplings were blah and overdone. Biggest problem is bring a bank loan for a modest dinner. Good service.
Walked in said hello how are you etc…sat at the food bar for two people. Given the menu’s I asked politely for a drink got told wait a moment. Three other people walked in served with drinks and menu to order…25min later we walked out with having nothing…I’ve traveled around the world and we always target Japanese or Sushi to dine for the culinary, culture and politeness but this by far was the worst… Went to Ichiban a Sushi restaurant down the road instead and had great food and service .
My Fiancé and I stopped in on our way back from Joshua Tree and we absolutely loved this place! The man and woman in there, I’m assuming the owners, were incredibly sweet & kind. We ordered 4 rolls, and they were spectacular! Super fast service, clean restaurant. We’ll absolutely stop in again if we’re ever down that way!
Mindoro has a really eclectic assortment of sushi, some of which I’ve never had anywhere else. On this trip we split The Gentleman and Shadow Ridge along with a couple appetizers and the requisite sake and beer. All were quite good.

Would give 4 stars for food quality. 1 star for friendliness. 2 stars for how to operate a business. 2 stars for being overpriced and cheap on ginger and wasabi. The waitress actually said I still had some. I scooped up the tiny bit left and swallowed it and said, Now I dont. Any decent restaurant should be open for 7 days. Another time these people closed recently on a Monday, and I was told theyre closed Friday for Labor Day. At first, the woman was not sure, then changed her mind and said they would be closed. She brushed me off to hang up. Go to Wendys. More fun.
The menu should be revised and not say fountain drinks when the coke and other fountain drinks are just an aluminum can. This shouldnt of annoyed me as much as it should but I was really looking forward to it. There were a couple other reasons why 3 stars, but the food itself was good and the waitress was nice.
The food is amazing and the service is even better. How many places would take your pick up order three minutes before closing for lunch and still make you feel extremely welcome? My daughter had a craving and they didnt think twice about staying open a few extra minutes for us so my daughter could get her California Roll. Love this place!
4 Stars!We love this place, the rolls are a bit pricey but they are sooooooooo delicious. Excellent service, the ambiance is fantastic and beautiful. The bathrooms and restaurant is always so very clean and welcoming. The service is wonderful, food is really really delicious and satisfying.

The food was good tasting, but the prices have surged. The old menu prices are online, so be aware. The veggie yakisoba used to be 16 dollars. Now its 25 dollars. Just an example. The food was good, but not worth the cost. This is Tehachapi, but the prices around here are closer to Santa Barbara, CA. Tehachapi aint that great... The inflation is brought on by something, though.
Used to come here often, easily spending $75 each visit. Havent been back since we found sticker label in our food. After showing to management, we were offered only a partial discount of that plate because we had already consumed some of the food! Then they refused to honor the discount promised to us as hotel guests next door. Poor service. None of our family and friends have returned.
This place is a hidden GEM! Absolutely delicious! I never would have thought of finding such a great place in the Sierra Nevada foot hills. The staff were very courteous the Chef was very talented and service was prompt and fast the waitress wasnt bugging she asked once how things tasted and then refilled drinks by keeping an eye on the table and asked if we needed anything then. The spicy tuna is phenomenal not overwhelmingly hot a very warm delicious flavor. If your a Sushi Fan Midori is worth going out of the way to try their cuisine.
All the ingredients were good quality and the service was excellent. The rolls were a tiny bit loose rolled for a younger / newer chopstick user. The tempura is quite good and the pork katsu was some of the best Ive had. Glad to have a place in Tehachapi we can go for solid sushi!
Not sure if its the area but sushi was super expensive . Our veggie tempura was burnt and when we asked to order another roll they said it would be 45 minute wait when we had already waited so long for our first roll. Not sure Id be back again.
Great service the the sushi apprentice was very nice and friendly a pleasure to talk to. The sushi was good my favorite was the tehachapi roll. You can tell that the locals come often as they will often talk to the chefs and thank them for the food. Interior is well lit and clean.
For the price I was expecting way better,I lived in Japan for 5 years,I guess Im expecting better sushi,Even $1.00 sushi is better in Japan and they say thats cheap sushi there...Sorry I will pay the price for good sushi,They tea was so weak both the green and black tea....
The Sushi chef was fast and friendly. My friends and I ordered their California Roll. It was delicious. Worst waitresses youll ever encounter. Great sushi but terrible service. If it wasnt for the Sushi chef Id give them one star.

I went here because it was close by. It was a great choice.The service was prompt and helpful. I asked for some recommendations and I was very pleased with everything. I wasnt planning on having an appetizer but they looked appealing. I opted for the gyoza. They were excellent and they were on special too!I had the teriyaki salmon with spicy tuna roll. They were both delicious. The soup was also tasty and the salad was fresh and enjoyable. The tempura was also excellent.I will be back!

Didnt expect such great sushi in Tehachapi! Authentic, some favorites and unique rolls too. Not cheap, big city prices but big city excellence too. Only bad thing was they had right-winger Laura Ingrahm on the bar TV - at least the sound was off but had to knock off a star for that.
Great sushi! Tehachapi Valley is my new favorite roll. Service is friendly and timely. No matter if eating out solo or with a group; the servers have what it takes to accommodate.

I wish I took a picture before I started. Chef James, at the sushi bar is incredible. Sushi was fresh, and his skill impeccable. We chatted before I ordered and after discovering my love for tuna, made a personal roll for me. This tightly rolled sushi had his own special sauce he makes from scratch. It was the defining touch! This place elevates sushi above the standard restraunt. I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you Chef James for great conversation and an amazing dining experiance. See you soon!
Fast and friendly. Dont order the bibimbap though as its really light on the meat so you basically pay $20 with tip for rice and some salad greens. I wish I had ordered something else because the rolls looked good.

To say it was a terrible experience would be an understatement. I crashed in on my mother and her friend having lunch. They had ordered edemame, a sunset roll to split and some mochi ice cream. I got there an hour after they ordered and all they had was the mochi ice cream. Shorty after I arrived they finally received their roll (just the roll no plates, no bowl) I ordered a second roll for myself. We then waited another 40 minutes before we decided to go to a different sushi restaurant. When we told them to cancel the rest because we just wanted to get going the waitress went and told the guy at the sushi counter and he literally yelled across the restaurant Its almost ready. The overall experience was terrible, the waitress and the lady at the register were pretty rude to everyone who walked in the entire time and then the sunset roll looked like rice and avacado had be mushed into a deformed guacamole before being served. 😂 I wont go back and wont recommend this place.
Was very happy woth my food, the kast time I was there is wasnt very good and that was almost a yr ago, this time my mother in kaw wanted to eat there so we gave it another shot and it was awesome. Definitely recommend their crunchy tempura rolls
Second time visiting this place . Well they are out rice my girls love the chicken plate but they don’t have rice we ask if they can get noodlesAnd the owner said no because there more expense. How can a Asian restaurant be out rice. Is like making my kids understand that salad is a better option .. I’m never coming back ..

Very disappointed. Been going here for past couple of years. But tonight new sushi chef, not very crowded, 4 people working to get food out and we had an hour and a half wait for food. Felt bad for the waitresses. Not worth it for the price. Probably wont be going back there for quite some time.
Midori sushi is like finding a gold mine in Tehachapi. You can eat ouside or takeout. So I had the lunch special pork katsu inside where I was the only customer. It was excellent so while I was eating I ordered the 21 piece sashimi chef special to eat later in my hotel room. I cant put into words how good it was.
Was surprised to enjoy great sushi in Tehachapi, lots of variety, fresh fish, and great flavors made by really nice owners. Definitely coming back regularly.

Good prices, okay sushi. The tempura is great, but the atmosphere isnt as good as it could be. Lights are too bright and theyre playing greatest hits on the speakers.

Very slow service. Was there for litterally 2 hours when my order was:Side of rice, miso soup, edamame ( which is pathetic very small amount for $7!!), 2 rolls and squid with mesago.

At $16, the teriyaki bowls were oddly expensive for the amount of food you get. Not much chicken, a few vegetables, lot of rice. I would describe it as an $8 or $9 bowl at most other places. First time going there, not a very good experience, feeling ripped off.

Theres a few sushi restaurants in town but this one is by far my favorite. Its a little pricey compared to others in town but 100% worth it. I get the cowgirl every time.

This is probably amongst the three best places to eat in tehachapi despite being a sushi restuarant fast from the sea. Try the Korean items like Hwu dup bap. Youll be pleasantly surprised.

In the town of Tehachapi where I stayed before going to Death Valley, I found a delicious sushi restaurant!I took out the sushi sampler (nigiri) $14 for a midnight snack and it was a big hit🍣American nigiri sushi often has three tuna pieces and two salmon pieces, but here, all seven volumes are different! Sea bream, bincho, yellowtail? etc.The material was thickly sliced and the vinegar rice was just right and it was very delicious! ✨I wonder if Japanese people will be satisfied enough when they eat it😋
The delicious raw fish rice bowl sauce is excellent.

2022-12-13 20:17:08Incredible atmosphere, service, and food. Dont really eat Sushi often, and they went out of the way to make sure I would get something I would be happy with. Chef made sure we were very happy with the presentation and quality of our food, talked with us, and made us feel very at home. Did not want to leave. A but on the pricey side, but for the quality, location, views, and service received, youll find your money being well spent.

Quieter so you can have a conversation without having to raise your voice.The staff is friendly and always gives you wonderful personalized service. This is the only place for sushi in Tehachapi for me!Ive had at least one-third of the rolls on the menu, and they all have been good, with some being exceptional!Some favorites are the California Beach and the Salmon lover roll!

The owners makes a point to visit with the tables and make sure that you’re completely satisfied with what you ordered. I’m very picky with my fish and these guys nailed it! Highly recommended 👌🏻

2019-02-15 04:32:15Ok. This is the best Japanese food within 50 miles. It is also very good. I highly recommend stopping here if you are driving through town. Just west of Flyers gas station about a half mile. We tried 8 things on the menu. It was very delicious. Bill was around $80. Very worth it.Enjoy
