Service and food were very good. Their eel sauce tasted a little different for my liking. It had a hint of spice flavor to it. I sat outside because it was a nice evening. The Downtown vibe in visita has a very chill vibe to it. The inside of the restaurant was clean and modern. If I lived closer, I would probably try it again to taste some other rolls.

I do recommend this place.They dont get a 5 just because of service.. they werent busy when we first went ( been there twice already) but they werent acknowledging the fact that we were standing and waiting to be seated as they requested you to wait. Anyway the food is really good and tasty and fresh. Really like their miso soup and the unique sushi combo rolls. Price point is good as well.

One of the best Sushi places ever!! I miss the Carlsbad location... destroyed by a fire... but this one is just as good. The food is literally incredible. The server is always friendly and accommodating. The garlic edamame is unbelievable. The signature rolls are soo good. Dont get standard rolls... their signature rolls are so worth the extra $$

Probably the best Sushi Ive had in North County. The restaurant itself is large enough to mitigate waiting, but small enough to feel like a local place to step away for a meal.The service was pleasant and knowledgeable. They were able to answer questions confidently and gave good advice on which choice to make based on taste preference.The Chefs really know what theyre doing! If you love Sushi and youre in downtown Vista, make sure you swing by for happy hour!

They are the rudest and unprofessional servers I have ever seen! Veronica questioned an order I was picking up and I asked her why she doesn’t have all customers prove who they are she laughed at me and had a coworker Jason put my ticket at the end of the orders they had waiting. And they were laughing the whole time with their backs to me. Needless to say I wound up last last in line of their orders. Real cute! The food is good, but they definitely need to hire friendlier staff.

A gem of Vista. There’s nothing not to love about Mikko. Excellent nigiri/sashimi, some “secret menu” items that we get every time we visit. Not to mention: excellent service, great atmosphere and a cute patio. I can’t remember the last time I went a week without eating here.Even the take-out or delivery is excellent, which is a hard feat for sushi. I’d definitely recommend dining in if you can as Mikko has some of the nicest folks waiting tables that I’ve run across. This is one of those spots that makes Vista feel so cozy and unique, and I hope it’s here for decades to come.

Have been here a number of times. Tonight was way off.My daughter and I ordered our appetizers gyoza and garlic edemame. The edemame arrived but waited for the gyoza. Then the gentleman came up and took our order. She had the shrimp crunch roll, and I ordered the chicken breast Teri bowl. Her roll came out, and by the time she finished her roll a few min later, my bowl came out. Still, we are waiting for the gyoza. It wasnt until we asked a busser if he could check on it. Ive now finished half of my bowl when the lady who initially took our app order delivered the gyoza. All while before that, my daughter had finished her meal and was just sitting there.Im a food and beverage supervisor for a Hilton property.Apps should come out together as well as dinner. No brainer... and they drop the food so fast that you dont have time to even ask a question.

We came here on a Friday night and got a table right away, the place is very modern with a lot of hardwood. The servers were very friendly and the sushi was excellent. I believe the prices are right in line with other sushi places in the area. I didnt like that they served their drinks in mason jar glasses but it goes with the rest stick wood feeling of the place. We would definitely come here again

Went in for lunch with my sisters and they had a 5-10 minute wait, no big deal until the host asked us to wait outside.If not for my sisters I would have just picked another place.Our server was pleasant but a salad and our edamame appetizer were the two last dishes to arrive at our table.

MIKKO sushi is my go to place for sushi in north county. They have a really good selection of rolls, but they also have other things too which is good for my husband who doesn’t like sushi. My go to is the MIKKO roll, but I also have had several others. Pictured is the MIKKO and the dragon roll. Here’s the thing, it’s pricey, and I don’t love that, but all sushi is expensive so I feel like it’s relative. I give this place 5 stars because I do like the sushi, but I just wish it was a touch cheaper (they did actually up their prices recently to $14.50).

The most amazing sushi. It was the best sushi we have had in SoCal. We loved everything. We had edamame, three rolls and a bowl of ramen. Great prices. Delicious flavors. So much variety it was hard to choose. Atmosphere was perfect. Everything looked so good and very large menu. Had a draft beer and hard kombucha. Both worth it here. 10/10 would recommend and will be returning. Our server / hostess was so kind and sweet. Outdoor seating for chilly nights with heaters. Plenty of indoor seating. Nice big tent outside, too.

We went to have dinner as a family of 4, our youngest is 2 and we brought him a happy meal to eat there, the assistant manager turned us away and refused to serve us stating no food from outside is allowed. We understand this applying for adults but not for a toddler. We found this policy to be silly and embarrassing to be turned away.

Absolutely recommend MIKKO!It was our first time dining in on a Monday night, there was no wait with fast service! We ordered chirashi bowl, tiger roll, takoyaki and some drinks. The chirashi bowl is top tier at this price, with really fresh and tasty assorted fish and vegetables, with also top tier presentation... Wow! Its such a gem!The waiters and waitresses were friendly and the interior was clean, comfortable, and cozy!I will certainly go back again for more of those chirashi bowl!!

Great place!Ive been wanting to go here for the last 2 yrs & it finally happened during the pandemic.I called ahead to make sure there was no wait since that was the main reason why I never came 2 yrs ago.They are practicing social distancing, wearing masks & gloves, & requiring patrons to wear masks as well.I ordered a tonkosatu, stuffed jalapeño poppers, beef yakisoba, chicken yakisoba, & a chicken bento box.The first 3 meals were eaten at the establishment. The last 2 were to go orders.The tonkosatu was very good & I loved that the egg in it was firm enough for me to eat. Most of the time, I dont eat the egg because it seems too runny for me.My bf liked his beef yakisoba & devoured it.The stuffed jalapeño poppers were very good & crispy. I think i would have added hot sauce to it, just a touch.For the chicken bento box, they usually serve it 11am to 4pm. I didnt know that and the waitress was on her 2nd day there & she didnt know that. Also, having 2 servings of the California roll with the bento box costs $5, but the waitress didnt know that either. I wish they would have honored it, but I understand that you need to Make money, especially at this time.I really like the fact that they put the soda in Mason jars as well.Ill be back & this time I will try the sushi.

The sushi was great. We had the dragon, rainbow, mango and samurai rolls, and a deep fried california roll. The sushi came pretty quickly after we ordered. Not pictured (it disappeared way too fast!) were the spring rolls and gyoza for apps, yum! We also had a few hot sakes; they have a great Wednesday night hot sake deal going on.The food was great, absolutely no complaints there, definitely five stars for the meal. Prices were as expected, nothing crazy.HOWEVER. The staff maybe could use more training. We came in at 6pm and all tables full (not unexpected) and a couple of 4 seater parties ahead of us (we had 3) so the hostess told us 15-20 minutes to wait. No problem, we sit and wait. After 20 minutes, and the parties ahead of us had been seated, the hostess told us another 20-30 minutes. Not so cool, and we debated leaving but decided to stick out - glad we did, because three more tables left within 5 minutes and she got us seated.Our waiter seemed to be perhaps new (the restaurant itself is pretty new, so take that with a grain of salt) and we had to call him over for more drinks, and didnt see him again for the rest of the evening (like, even at all, I think he was dealing with a large party as well). Another server finally brought us our check after it was pretty clear we were done, all of our plates had been cleared for some time, and we were able to pay and leave around 8. A table next to us seemed to also have a problem getting some attention; it sounded like theyd gotten 2 of their 3 meals and were waiting some time for the third meal to arrive before calling over a different server.Still, great food, love the atmosphere, and Ive worked in food service before so Im willing to give 5 stars just for how good the sushi is, but I think the customers could use some more attention, even on a busy Wednesday night. I probably wouldnt risk it on a weekend.

Ive been to their Carlsbad location and I honestly like this location better because of the service.We walked in for a table for 2. They were very busy and there was one table left. We sat at the table and it was a little uncomfortable. There was no where to put my purse and I held it in my lap. The hostess did mention if another table becomes available she will move us. Yay! A few booths opened up so we moved quickly. That made my experience so much better.The service is good and the workers are accommodating. I also met Young the owner. Some Sushi places are hit and miss but not this place. The service was good and the food was delicious. In the rear plate, you see one of our favorite rolls; Pipeline and in front you have a mixture I created (to get a better photo) from left to right; Mango roll, Baja roll, and Garden roll. All delicious. Not to mention the best Miso soup in the county. All in all my kids and I were satisfied.

We came here for a friends birthday. I do not eat sushi so I ordered chicken catsue curry. It was delicious! My friends really enjoyed the sushi rolls, but again Im not a sushi fan so I couldnt personally attest to this. One of my friends asked which sushi was the most spicy and ordered it then said it wasnt very spicy at all. That was the only complaint I heard. Friendly staff. Good location in downtown Vista. Generous cuts of fish and competitive prices, Mikko sushi is undoubtedly now the best available in the Vista area code. The counter is impressive, with large glass windows demonstrating a desire to show off the freshness and variety of their daily offerings. The menu is extensive, and suitable for bringing friends who may not like sushi, but do like other Japanese cuisine. I am looking forward to my next trip here!

The sushi is GOOD. We really liked the Carlsbad location and that made us drive out of our way to come to Vista when we wanted sushi. Fish was fresh, dishes came out quickly. Lots of things on the menu I would get.Service was overall good except our waitress forgot an item we ordered but she never came back to check on us so we couldn’t tell her. Then I guess her shift ended cause she waved goodbye and left without ever coming back. When we asked for our check it still contained the missing item, but it was quickly taken off by another staff member. The kid cleaning the tables was super thorough and never stopped moving though.But overall we’d come back; the sushi is very good.

We specifically drove there for the Hamachi Kama but when we got there the Korean lady told us the grill is turned off. This was odd since we actually called ahead of time to verify they had it and the guy we spoke to said yes they did and last call to order was 9:45 but never said anything about the grill being turned off. When I mentioned this to the Korean lady she offered no apology for the lack of communication as well as inconvenience. We ordered some other items and then the young man packing our food dropped the lid on the floor and still attempted to put it back on the food which was obviously unsanitary and we mentioned that to her as well but didnt seem to bother her much either, so for our first time there this was a pretty bad experience

I called to see if I could order ahead and eat there which I didn’t think was an out of the question request, however, the lady that answered said “No you can’t do that. You have to come in and get a table to eat here.” She said it rude. I guess they get enough customers. All I wanted was to eat in enough time to get to the movies on time. This happened 2/17/23 at about 5 pm just so you might know who was answering the phone. I’ll never eat there now.

Ive been going to the vista mikko for a few years and am happy the quality has remained high! i love the spicy tuna wrap so much, its one of my favorite dishes. the tempura shrimp roll and cucumber wrapped rolls are also fantastic. if you like edamame, you have to try their garlic oil edamame, its AMAZING. interestingly, the mikko in carlsbad never tasted as good as the vista one - hopefully when they come back, they can make the food on par with the vista location as id love to have an amazing tuna wrap in carlsbad as well!

Because this is the second time.. they made me wait outside for 45 min and I patiently waited, after watching all the parties that came after me get a table i look inside and see the hostess talking to another person pointing at us and shaking their heads saying NO. We dined at Mikko for dinner. The food was ok and the service was quite bad. Our waitress never followed up with us once we ordered. Went twice in the last 3 weeks. They seem to be understaffed. The customer service sucked the first time. The second time the food runner was rude, but the server was friendly albeit rushed. The BBQ short ribs were okay (I added on the Cali roll). Tasted freshly made. On the next visit, I ordered the sushi assortment combo. The quality of the shrimp crunch roll was decent. But the sashimi tasted room temperature, and the quality was not at all fresh tasting. I really wanted to like the food both visits. Gave it a shot. Truthfully I wont be going back and will continue to explore other Japanese restaurants, but most likely stick with Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub as my go- to for fresh, quality food. Power to the servers though! They were very busy and didnt convey any stress or tension. However, there wasnt much effort to engage. Hopefully this doesnt mean the morale is low amongst the staff.

Finally found a reminds me of Japan worthy sushi place in the area of Oceanside and Vista. They have a good range of nigiri sushi options. The fat belly tuna was probably my favorite, price was market value but definitely worth it compared to other sushi restaurants Ive tried. They also had vegan options and even a vegan ramen. It had a distinct taste but overall good option to try. Definitely will comeback for more !

Everything Ive ordered from here has been absolutely delicious. They can even make custom rolls for you if you cant find exactly what you want. The deep fried California roll is a must try, its so good with tons of flavor. The salmon was extremely fresh and just melts in your mouth. The ingredients are definitely very fresh. They have a great deals on sake on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Great food, amazing service and really great deals! Id recommend stopping here if you are in the mood for excellent food.

However, I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that we were eating there and they served my bowl with a PLASTIC fork. Just for the sake of not washing cutlery? Good portions for the price! There are lunch and happy hour specials, my girlfriend and I came here for lunch. We enjoyed our visit. Only one table was empty, yet service was prompt and friendly. The food was very tasty, and the Korean BBQ ribs had a unique flavor! (Compared to other places) music is mellow, but audible. Spacious seating area and parking right out front! Very disappointed! My wife and I walked in and the hostess took my name down for a table for two. She said it would be a few minute wait. We were waiting outside and not long after 3 other parties of two checked in. Within minutes one of those parties was seated as it was obvious they were friends. A couple minutes later another pair of two was called in to be seated. Both of these couples had checked in after we had. The hostess then came out and addressed the third group about there booth about ready. At this point I walked in and asked how much longer. The hostess looks down the list and I can see my name with names crossed off underneath mine. She looks over at a table that had been open the entire time and asked if that’s was ok. At this point we left. It’s apparent that the hostess either do not know how to manage a floor or just disregarded us completely.

What earns one star is:We ordered 3 rolls and only got 2. When we asked the waitress where our last roll was, she took a minute looking around to discover it had been delivered to the wrong table.She went to the table (fairly close by ours... enough for me to hear and see what was going on), confirmed the couple sitting there didnt order the roll (or touch it), collected the roll, went back into the restaurant and walked out 10 seconds later with the roll. I asked if that was the same roll she picked up from the other table, to which she said Yes. I brought it inside and the sous (sushi?) chef told me to bring it back out and its on us.There are so many things wrong with this - even when there is NOT a pandemic and notwithstanding the health code violation - but if a chef actually DID give this instruction... I am never eating here again. (Well - never eating here again regardless.) Who knows whats going on the kitchen if a chef thinks this is okay???Had I not been paying attention or sitting further away - to think that they would have served me that makes me sick.No apology or acknowledgement from management. Its a shame - Ive enjoyed the Carlsbad location for many years but probably wont be going there again either.

We’ve been here a few times and they were great. The food was okay, service was not too bad. That’s the reason we came back. However, we’re not sure what happened with the restaurant today. We “encountered” a series of bad luck here. We ordered our favorite spicy calamari salad as an appetizer, a tonkotsu ramen for my wife, and a bento box for me. First, they brought me a different dish of octopus, which had no vegetables. I asked the server if that was the spicy calamari salad. She took it to the kitchen. Then someone brought me the bento box, which is okay. After a couple of minutes, someone brought us the real calamari salad. However, it didn’t taste like it used to. We couldn’t finish it due to bad seasoning. Then we waited forever for the ramen. Not until we asked the cashier about it did she bring it in. Surprisingly, the ramen today was not as good as it used to be. The noodles was not boiled long enough so it was still hard. The meat, which was supposed to be the best thing in the bow, was awful so that my wife couldn’t finish even a third of it. Another contributing factor here was the attitude of the servers. They didn’t even apologize for bringing us the wrong dish, and they let us wait too long to charge the credit card. It seemed that a table next to us was treated in a similar way. What happened, guys??? If you’re not 100%, please do not come to work. We always give good tips when eating out in the restaurants, but not this time. I believe they deserved my $0.00 tip so the management team would look into this. I don’t think we will come back to this place anytime soon.

This Japanese restaurant was AMAZING! I love good sushi, and I have several restaurants I love, but Mikko Sushi impressed me far above the others. We had dinner with the grandparents in honor or my sons promotion. We got several kinds of sushi rolls as well as a plate of chicken teriyaki, a bowl of chicken teriyaki, and the kids plate of beef teriyaki. Everything I tried was amazing. (I opt out of shellfish, so I didnt try the things with shrimp. I even tried a tempura sushi roll for the first time. I prefer the more traditional raw sushi, but the tempura roll was good too. Your taste buds will be delighted if you dine here.

We came here because we were in the area. The girl gave us the menu and we sat down. We already knew what we wanted so we wrote it down on the paper menu. We been sitting down for about 30 minutes all ready to order. The workers just kept passing by not even acknowledging us. We didn’t get our waters until also 30 minutes later. The sushi is pretty good here. We have been six times and recommend two rolls - the waimea roll (super fresh and lemony) and the Carlsbad roll (be sure to add cream cheese and hot sauce). Also the garlic edamame is bomb. Staff members are nice and the service is good. On the room for improvements side... We ordered to go once and we were pretty disappointed with our two soy sauce packets for five rolls and zero wasabi/ginger. They also forgot to serve us an item twice and charged us. The layout is modern, clean, and fresh - and with it comes welcoming and courteous staff. They even introduced us to fried ice cream, which is something you should not miss out on. The sushi is excellent across the board, having visited the restaurant a number of times. It never disappointed, and often provided unique items such as the newer Sushi Burrito concept or the more unusual Lemon Shrimp - consisting of a fresh prawn with a deep fried head. It is definitely a more adventurous pick for a western audience - but not atypical for real Asian dinning.

We did this because prior experiences have led us to believe ordering everything at once doesnt work so good here and other Jepanese restaurants. Imagine high school students who had never had Japanese food, who had never had sushi, were given a two-day intensive training in Japanese cooking. They would be the most qualified candidates for the position of chef at Mikko Sushi.Overcooked, greasy, soggy tempura. Undercooked al dente sushi rice. The quality of the fish was not terrible, Ill give them that, but the nigiri sushi was amateurishly assembled, with the fish just flopped onto the hard ball of undercooked rice, so that it fell apart as soon as you touched it.Chicken katsu was dried out shoe leather, and for a change of pace the steamed rice was mush.If this had been a high school cultural event catered by the students it would have been pretty good. For a professional restaurant they get an F. Anybody who thinks this is good Japanese food has never had good Japanese food, which I understand because in the last couple of decades its become hard to find.

Ive visited Mikko many times. Sometimes, the experience is great. Sometimes, they just fall short. Yesterday, the cut rolls were very small, the rice was grainy, and the overall taste was bland. Could have been my chiices, but the chefs may not be up to the challenge.For distancing, the tables are all on the sidewalk, and thats good. It sure is making for long walks for the servers. They are doing their best.And, whatever cleaning is used is interacting with the finish of the tables and making the surface feel quite tacky. Signature roll was spot on, but the other 4 rolls we ate needed some serious work. Tempura crunch roll sauce was far too sweet, California roll lacked any flavor from the fish. Two other “specialty” rolls off their menu were just plain bad.Overall, this is mediocre sushi and not a place I’d return to.

Great happy hour. Really liked the place. Couldnt give it the full five stars because the bar seating makes you feel like its made for little kids. If youre not a big fan of eating sushi at the bar, youll like this place.

Had a great lunch at Mikko Sushi. Hot sake is always good. And our Tiger and Tempura Asparagus rolls were 30% off, maybe because of lunch special. Not sure, but it was a pleasant surprise on top of great meal. Ten out of ten would sushi again.

Walked in around 3:40 p.m. and sat at the sushi bar at the Vista location thinking it was Happy Hour and ordered my rolls accordingly. The place was almost empty. The food was good. On the happy hour menu on their website it states happy hour is 3:00-6:00 p.m. but when I received the bill it didnt show the 30% off my two rolls. I was told by the sushi chef that the Vista location is only from 4-6. I showed them my phone screen with the happy hour page of the menu showing clearly the time as 3-6 not specifying which location, but they wouldnt honor it. I only went there because it was HH. Its not my fault that their Google website was incorrect and they should have honored it. I couldve chosen any other restaurant in downtown Vista for HH and next time I will! Obviously they arent that interested in keeping my business!

If you need a local sushi joint, this is it. This is a real great local establishment. Rolls are well presented and delicious. Great presentation. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Oysters are nice and fresh. Happy hour specials are really good.

I do like their food 👍 I just had lunch with a friend there. We decided to dine in. And, we wanted to catch up. But, because there isnt really many people inside or music to listen to. It became kind of awkward to be talking to each other when we knew people were listening to us. So, as soon as we finished up eating we finished talking outside. I know there isnt many people coming in on a Monday. And, COVID is affecting the amount of people coming in, but because of this my experience wasnt as satisfying as I hoped especially coming in to catch up with a friend I havent seen in a while. Its a chill place to have lunch and eat good food though.

This place has the best sushi hands down. It does get packed here so be prepared for a wait if you come for lunch or dinner, but it is totally worth it. They have the best cut rolls you can ask for. Their spicy yellow tail is to die for.

This local, downtown Vista restaurant was recommended by a friend, so we ate lunch there today. Wow! The food was delicious! We ate two of the lunch specials, spicy chicken teriyaki and shrimp teriyaki, plus the garlic edamame and stuffed jalapenos. We are going back VERY soon!

My wife and I started going there 3 months they after their opening in Vista. We were regulars for 18 + years at a place in San Marcos and then it changed, but not for the better. I had eaten there with my daughter a few times and always enjoyed it. We had planned to go there this evening for dinner, but it wasnt going to work out, so we ordered delivery. Long story short, it was AWFUL. Miso soup had 1 piece of tofu and barely a sliver of seaweed (both my miso favorites!). Garlic edamame was so salty that it was inedible. At this point my dinner was ruined and I couldnt eat anymore. My daughter ordered similar items with the same results. Very disappointing .

Mikko Sushi is my favorite place to eat!! I came here for the first time having never tried Sushi and not really being a huge fan of seafood. The manager was a huge help and explained a lot to me. The staff here is extremely helpful and the service is second to none!! Thanks to Mikko I have a new favorite food and a new favorite place to eat at. Couldn’t be happier.

They would answer our questions and disappear quickly when we still had questions we wanted to ask, the girl working who looked Asian pretty much threw our cards and receipts on the clipboard at us didnt say a word and went on to help another table. The waiters were also slow to get us what we asked for. Wish they had better customer service.

Mikko sushi is one of my favorites. I’ve been to both the Carlsbad and Vista locations and both were a great value. The Mikko Roll is awesome as well as the standard spicy tuna. Another person at the table got the sashimi and really enjoyed it— pretty large portions of incredibly fresh fish.
