Been here twice now and it’s a great option for reliable and tasty Japanese good! Definitely the best in Davis! I’ve never had a dish that I was disappointed by. Be ready for their service to be slow on busy days as they can get really crowded. Finding spots in the parking lot can also be tough if it’s a crowded weekend. I recommend the DMC roll and Una Cali if you like unagi. For starters, their freaky edamame and gyoza are great and reliable options.

That is a very cool place. It is Japanese food, but with several interesting creative touches. I had a salmon roll that looked and tasted great. Service was outstanding, the person was patient and truly helped me find what I wanted. The restaurant is spacious, chairs are comfortable, and the bathroom is impeccable. A must-go in Davis Downtown!

The mint green wasabi was very off-putting to me. Though it could be some other variety of wasabi Im not aware of. The cheaper sushi restaurants use this type of wasabi and honestly the quality of the sushi here reflects that too. The rice is barely seasoned and the fish on top of the rolls is very skimpy. Only the nigiri and handroll here were good. Overall, the taste was not bad, just not worth the price they were charging.The service here is also so slow on a Saturday night. Our waiter was busy zipping around doing I dont know what so I dont blame him. He only refilled our water once at the end when we were paying our bill when he had already passed by our table many times before. Mikuni needs to hire more waiters to handle the amount of business they get which doesnt even make sense to begin with. Its a very average experience in general but good enough for the area I guess. The trip to Huku is more worth it.

Our server Eddie did a phenomenal job- full stop. His grade A service is what made us enjoy our visit. Eddies detailed knowledge of the menu, coupled with his enthusiastic recommendations, made the experience fun and engaging!He was very invested in our experience and made sure that we enjoyed our time dining here. Ive eaten a lot of sushi in my life and while it wasnt bad by any measure, well be coming back for the service, not the food.

We’ve been to Mikuni’s a million times and it always satisfies our sushi cravings! I would 100% recommend trying any location if you’re in Northern California. Sat at the sushi bar for the first time and I would highly recommend it; really cool to see the fresh fish and sushi-making. The bar chefs take your sushi orders directly and make them for you, versus a waiter taking your order at a table. We had an amazing experience our first time here. We got the dinner for two deal. We really enjoyed our waiters/bartenders attention to answer our questions and give us suggestions. The food here tastes so fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed our dessert which was an interesting take on cheesecake. You should definitely come and try it at least once. We sat in the bar area and that let us easily communicate with our server since we had lot of questions. We will be returning soon.

Very good food sat at the sushi bar. Try going a few times before but the wait times are usually around 30 to 45 minutes on any given weekend night. So show up early. Definitely good atmosphere very flexible for work or meeting up with friends. Definitely a little more expensive than other places. Downtown Davis but you pay for the food and great service. They have a decent beer and wine selection so thats nice to see. Also, parking is moderately easy if you go to any of the parking downtown you might have to walk for about 5 minutes but Davis is pretty safe so its not really a big deal. Would highly recommend

Second time here! They moved locations from the last time I came here and it’s even more spacious than before! We got the 2 for $55: the asparagus to start, sea steak, and the ninety nine roll and soft shell crab hand roll. To finish, we got the mousse cake, which was airy and light with the perfect amount of sweetness. It paired especially well with the hot green tea! My husband got the chirashi. He said it was good but it doesn’t amount to the same amount of fish we get in the ones in LA of the same price and quality. Overall, the food was amazing and the service was impeccable!

High quality rolls at a moderate price. The service was exceptional, our waitress was friendly and attentative.I ordered the Rainbow Roll. It was fresh and I liked the touch of green onions on the top.The menu is via QR code and there are 4 different types of menus to look through. I like their system where they text you once seating is available, theres no need to wait in line.

Pretty good sushi for the price! The server was pretty friendly and helped make any recommendations.The place looks pretty modern with some familiar dishes in a Japanese restaurant like teriyaki barbecue and even tempura! They taste pretty cartoony... like the teriyaki sauce was pretty sweet... and the tempura had suspiciously the perfect amount of breading on it for the same can be set of the shrimp inside...At least my mind was taken off by the side salad with a strange bitter taste, and the included orange slice!

I have ate here a few times on work trips. Its a really great place. Its allways a good place for work clients or colleagues.I really enjoy the quality and freshness of the ingredients. I have had a few different dishes and I have always really enjoyed. I had the mafia roll and some kinda Tasmania. Both outstanding.I sat and watched Yao the head chef talkbto and teach his sushi makers. He is very observant and models great behavior.Keep doing what your doing and dont change.

We decided to try this place for lunch otw to Napa. Free parking is available for Davis commons’ customers. We got the lunch options (bento with teriyaki chicken + gyoza, spicy tuna roll, and udon soup). Everything was tasty!

We’ve been here many times and this last time was such poor service I don’t think we’ll be returning. The food is decent. Most recently, we went here for a special occasion with my mom in town and left not feeling like a valued customer after spending a good amount of money. When we had an issue they said “corporate says x y z” and the manager was unfriendly. The issue was that my six year old son - like many kids - is picky and just wants tofu and rice. Can a restaurant help parents eat out and enjoy their meal while accommodating this? Apparently not. They would not allow basic tofu warmed up to be served as a part of the bento box because corporate doesn’t allow substitutions. Ok. I’m order to get a side of plain tofu they said they: we will charge me for agadashi tofu - I said fine. When the bill came I asked, did you charge me $9 for the tofu (the current happy hour price) or $11 (the full price)? The waitress went and checked with her manager and came back and had the nerve to tell me that they charged me $11 because we modified the agadashi by removing everything from the dish. I told her that I was upset about this and she asked if we would like a manager to come over. I had to say yes a few times. The manager comes over without making us feel like valued customers - just sort of stares at us blankly. He told us we should have told the server to charge us for miso soup without the soup. How am I supposed to know that?! And he still charged us for that instead of at least waving it for this time as it was an inconvenience that I needed to take my time from a special dinner to complain. I don’t enjoy complaining or talking with a manager and I want to leave a meal like this feeling well taken care of. I do not plan to return here with my family. Something is very off about this place - it’s lacking customer care and common sense.

My husband and I were in town for a photoshoot and searched for a sushi place nearby, I am so glad this place is what was recommended.We were greeted right when we walked in and were seated immediately. Our server was Madison, and she was so wonderful.We ordered the Edamame with the Freaky seasoning, wow! I am not sure how so much seasoning works, but it totally does! The Flaming Shrooms were sooooo delicious! I would have been down to eat three orders of just those. The Sake-Q was such a fresh tasting roll. I am a big fan of cucumber wrapped rolls, this one did not disappoint. The 3pcs Kaizen Oysters with Ponzu were really tasty. I did not taste any sand or shell when eating the oysters which I appreciated. The Yuzu Calamari was some of the best breaded calamari I have ever had. The breading was so lite and didnt overpower the taste of the calamari at all.The bathrooms were clean and nice. The restuarant felt lively. The parking lot in the back had lots of spaces to park in for free.

This place is seriously overpriced for the quality and portions of sushi. The type of sushi they serve here you can get literally at any other sushi restaurant and for much cheaper, too. The service is SO slow. I started to become dehydrated because the waiters barely visit the tables and refill the waters. At one point, I even had to wait 20 minutes to get the check. Pictured: the $20+ chirashi bowl. Mediocre but completely not worth it.

First time eating here. It was recommended by Davis locals whom we joined for dinner. We were impressed by the quality of the fish. It was very fresh and flavorful. I eat sushi frequently and have plenty of great and bad experiences to use as background for my rating. My decision to leave a review was mixed. I dont want this place to be so crowded the next time we are in town that we cant get a table but also want to offer kudos so they stay in business for the next time we are in town. Will definitely eat here again.

I went here because someone recommended this place. There was a 30 minute wait, just like the host estimated so the accuracy was good. I had tonkotsu ramen with a couple of sushi rolls. The ramen was very filling! It tasted good in the beginning but the soup was very salty toward the end. The sushi rolls werent memorable.

What happened!!! I came to Mikuni Davis by myself, and was given a booth after a 7 min wait. That was great! Unfortunately, I sat at the booth, chose my food from the menu, and sat for over 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged my presence. I took out some napkins and some chop sticks to show that my table was ready and I had not received even a glass of water or offered a drink. I was passed by 7 times for other waiters and food servers, even made eye contact with three of them, before I had to flag down a waitress to be acknowledged for water and some service. My waiter showed up immediately after my request, and was very good at making things better. The food quality is always 5 star. I held back a five star this time and only gave 4 stars due to the long wait at my table. I felt 20 + minutes was a bit excessive for a Thursday night. This is my favorite restaurant and I was shocked as this was the first time service was stressed.

Very good food with options for any palate. They dont take reservations which is a pain, but I can understand why. If they open at 11:30 a.m., people line up before that, so if you are planning on lunch, be there by 11:30. Fairly extensive menu, and their bento box dishes are huge. The food is very tasty, so go at least for a combo.

There is always a wait to get is. I dont know why. They have seating indoors and outdoors. Indoors, the tables are spaced for safety. You are greeted in front of the main door to get a reservation. Its just that the food is unremarkable. It isnt bad. It just isnt anything to go back for. So I went here today and it was quite stuffed - which I consider to be a good sign.We had a 3 course meal: tempura, ramen and sushi. However, they brought everything at the same time, which made the sushi lose its cold wanted temperature. The ramen was not the best, as the the items in it werent giving it a blended flavour but a very heterogeneous one. The sushi looked terrible: as you can see in the picture, the rice doesnt look consistent enough and it wasnt.We had a mojito pitcher to drink which turned out to be all ice and no flavour (needless to say that the popular dragon fruit flavour was instead strawberry) and the price didnt help.Overall, there are way better Japanese restaurants in town (ex Yakitori Yuchan) that serve food with more quality and more traditional Japanese style.

There was quite a wait and the beginning of our experience was not great. They wont let you go to the bar and order a drink while youre waiting but the host at the door didnt know what they had at the bar. I asked if they had a cider and he said he wasnt sure, then came back with a terrible sparkling wine?? Not great. But once we sat down the server made great recommendations and the food was great. Honestly, I felt it was a bit overrated. Most of the rolls taste the same. We did order a couple of the simpler rolls and those were better, you could taste the fish. Thats what to go there for. If you want rolls with all the sauces/cream cheese/fried stuff, your better off going to one of the cheaper places that are all over Davis.And the ice tea is terrible, stay away from that!

Great food and great service. One complaint: at the end of the evening the kitchen crew was make terrible sounds with the sauce bottles. Either cleaning or combining them. I asked them to stop making the sounds and they wouldn’t. It sounded like someone was vomiting. Other tables were looking and complaining too. Don’t go for a late dinner. It was incredibly rude and took away from a great evening. Finish eating before 9pm.

Saturday 8/27 for late lunch our trio visited the newer Mikuni venue at Davis Commons delighted at the upscale artistically renovated enlarged restaurant thats been a past favorite. A hot day with outdoor diners but we were quickly seated indoors in the beautiful dining area with booths and tables highlighted by large windows, vaulted ceilings, and eclectic wall sculptures, quite busy with a remarkable diversity of patrons. Immediately we were served with the addictive signature spicy Freaky edamame while we contemplated ordering from the larger expansive menu as we watched amazing chefs in the full-view kitchen behind the extensive gleaming sushi bar. Our cocktails arrived promptly with energetic courteous young servers attentive to our requests for their recommendations. The key lime moto is a unique creamy cocktail and the mojito was great with lots of fresh mint. Water was frequently replenished.We share-appetized with the flaming shrooms, puff daddy delight, yuzu calamari, and assorted tempura. One bowl of rich steaming udon was huge, enough left for take-home. I had the spicy Dream 1 lightly seared ahi, perfectly prepared near sashimi style with an array of delectable sauces that was a beautiful artistic presentation; I slowly savored each bite of the generous slices to make the culinary experience last long as possible. The ambience was so enjoyable, the service outstanding, the prices eminently reasonable for the quality, and the new environment inviting us to return soon to try other menu selections. My daughter and I always rate restaurants as well for the bathrooms with Mikuni this visit rated five stars for the innovative artistic detail and impeccable standards in thoughtfully appointed, almost elegant, and absolutely pristine maintenance of the womens room. We had a memorable meal at Mikuni, every aspect so rewarding it was hard to say good-bye: already we plan again to visit Mikuni Davis to support this fantastic restaurant!

All the rolls that I tried were very well crafted, one can tell good ingredients easily. the combinations of ingredients that went into the roll were quite interesting and delicious . One of the least satisfying dining experiences Ive had in a long time. Got seated right away, but the waiter acted annoyed the whole time and he didnt refill our waters once. First let me say I like Mikunis! My husband and I went for a late lunch - wasnt very crowded. Couple things: The server waited on a woman that came in after us by about 10 minutes. This girl was served drinks, a bento box & separate sushi order in separate deliveries to her table while we waited to place our order and then waited and waited for our food. Food was good but the wait, etc. was disappointing. About seating: DONT sit in the very back booth unless you dont mind a stream of people going by your table to the bathroom. Honestly, it was never ending AND then they come out of the bathrooms and walk by again... and the lighting in that booth is dim... if we return we wont take a booth unless its up front. Service was slow and had to wave her down to get refills. Server was very nice just slow. Maybe will go again but will sit where its brighter and no bathroom brigade!

The good news: excellent food. Bad news the front end manager has no idea how charm an irate customer and worse yet seems uninterested in learning. She was arrogant, dismissive and insisted on blaming others for the failure take an order in any reasonable time (18 min.). Not once in 15-18 minutes did she appear to check on the front of the house. Even though she knew she was short staff and she knew the staff she did have was brand new, she did not appear to take up the slack. Go for the food and let us fervently hope she changes her attitude and improves her performance. Of course as she informed me, the restaurant is doing quite well. As this would have to be in spite of her, perhaps the food is in fact good enough for the restaurant to do well despite her.

If I could give Mikuni more than 5 stars, I would. We dine at Mikuni probably more often than the wait staff cares to see us - but they are all super awesome and attentive. We have food allergies, and they make sure to accommodate for that. Our usual waiters know our drink and appetizer orders at this point, and always chat with us. The BBQ Tuna is phenomenal (and Im not a huge tuna fan) & they have rolls for every appetite and preference. Come hungry! The only downside is that you cant make reservations, but the food is worth the wait.

I got donburi, but 30$ for a bowl of cold rice (its not even the sushi rice announced, just plain white rice) and a few pieces of raw fish.2) Give a look at the pictures... Ok its from the toilets, but the rebuilt the place a year ago and its already so gross... Can we trust this place to keep kitchen clean?3) But the most annoying is that they ask us to sit on the entrance side, and we had to suffer the very cold air coming from outside every time someone steps in or out...I gave a 5 stars review 2 years ago, but after this last visit, I had to downgrade. The fish Ive tried here is just ok, and the food generally is overpriced.I tried the tuna sashimi appetizer and also had a chicken udon bowl. The appetizer had minimal amounts of fish and the fish didnt taste that great. For the udon, there was very little chicken meat and very little flavor. I also tried a few pieces of my friends individual rolls but they werent very memorable. Best sushi in Davis. Can get crowded. They have a nice patio if the weather is nice. Inside can be a little noisy. Great beer selection.

One of the few sushi restaurants I enjoy going to on a frequent basis. Their Happy Rolls are my go to - the shrimp in the middle is always cooked to perfection.

I have my favorites Arden is my favorite number one go to the only thing there is I cant ride my Harley dont want to leave it in the open but the Mikuni on Hazel is great for a motorcycle ride out Ill be eating there more the chicken karahga Im sure Ive butchered the spelling of the chicken motorcyclist if you like Japanese food in the Sacramento area I want to ride good place you can see your bike see you there keep the wheels up

I love this place. The BBQ white tuna with the red sauce is my go to. I also like the pepperfin that is in a citrus ponzu sauce with jalepenos. If you go for lunch, the bento box is a great value.

I like the creativity of the rolls, but they put a lot of sauce on everything. Recommend getting more of the sashimi or asking for light/no sauce.Coconut mixed drink is really really good.
