2023-09-16 21:43:23A low key spot with Malaysian and Burmese cuisine. The dishes we ordered and my thoughts:- tea leaf salad: not as good as the Burma Love/superstar in the bay but definitely scratched the itch.- prata: could have done with more flakey and lightweight bread but the curry was great and flavorful. Ordering this with the chicken rendang is actually the move and what this dish should’ve been.- sambal fried rice: this was the most disappointing. Expected more flavor.- chaw kuey thow: very good, flavored and authentic- chicken rendang: solid, thigh meat was well cooked. Wish there was a deeper darker curry but what was served was still good

2023-08-05 03:03:29We wanted to try Malaysian to see if there is a distinct flavor. It seems like the choices tended to be either Indian or Thai inspired so we looked for food choices that we never had before. We tried Ohn Noh Kaut Swell Soup - seemed more like a thick chowder with noodles, a lot of texture, tasty. We tried Bak Kut Teh - pork and tofu in a tea leaf broth. Finally we tried Tofu Rendang. The flavors were familiar. We regretted not ordering anything fried because we mostly ordered saucy. The two different rice bowls, coconut and yellow, were a particular favorite as well as the roasted peanut. Probably try more noodle dishes for next visit. Service is nice.

2023-08-15 16:23:34I love Mingala since it opened in Warm Spring. The new location seems brighter & spacious. We dropped by on Saturday around 8pm and was seated immediately. The service was friendly & very fast (we got our order in less than 10 minutes).- Mee goreng with chicken: delicious! The portion was generous. There were lots of chicken pieces. The noodle was cooked perfectly (chewy). The sauce was delicious but it was less spicy than the last time I remembered.- Nasi lemak with chicken: YUMMMM! The rice was succulent and flavorful. The chicken was cooked perfectly: tender, juicy & flavorful. The sambal with salted fish was delicious (great complement to the dish)

2023-05-19 00:32:29Big surprise to find Burmese and Singaporean/Malaysian food right here in fremont/newark. Huge space and well maintained. Food was very authentic especially the tea leaf salad, Tom yum soup and Singaporean bee boon. Loved it and went 2 weeks in a row.

2022-08-20 16:07:07The other day, I and my wife wanted to have some roasted duck wonton noodles at Newark Lion market supermarket shopping center, but it only for carryout. We stopped by this new restaurant in the complex, quite crowded so we decided to try. We didn’t even know it’s Malaysian, burmese, Chinese food. I like curry so I ordered Red Curry Chicken and my wife ordered hot and spices vermicelli. Many times at Thai restaurants, I didn’t like the curry has coconut juice too rich and sweet for my taste but this Red Curry was perfectly made. The taste was just right, flavorful and delicious. My wife noodles were good too but I enjoyed my curry with white rice more. The service was excellent, attentive and pleasant. This used to be a Chinese restaurant too, but now it’s remodeled brighter and cleaner. Good atmosphere for family eating out. The price is a little high but still excellent for the food. Average about $20 per person. A few days later we came to order take out for my daughter and she loved it too.We will come back and try other dishes when we’re too lazy to cook at home.

2023-04-24 02:45:48Originally on Warm Springs Blvd near Mission blvd and now at its new location next to Lion center on Mowry Ave in Fremont, and offers Burmese-Malaysia and Singaporean fare. The interior has been updated and the ceiling and walls have been repainted with bright yellow colors.I recall Mingala billing itself as offering authentic Malaysian cooking (as in using grandmas recipes perhaps). That said, their curries and masalas are great.Curry fried rice - this one is good. Plenty of assorted vegetables (and chicken or beef) in a well flavored fried rice dish. A good departure from Chinese style fried rice. Rice was little mushy though.Beef masala- beef shanks braised in a fragrant mix of herbs and spices. This the southeast Asian version of beef stew.. Masala is the Hindi word for spice so this truly is a spiced beef dish. Fragrant, with some spiciness along with a little sweetness, iIt tastes fantastic . the sauce is the star of the dish. It is a little expensive at $20. They should offer a smaller portion for something like $12Roti prata - much thicker than the thin stuff you may see at thai restaurants, mingalas version is oilier and more bready. Some may prefer it, some may notMohinga - Burmas national dish. Mohinga is a pungent fish soup with small bits of fish. Served as a soup or a meal, it is best paired with rice or noodles. Its too intense to eat on its own.Salt and pepper eggplant - nicely deep fried (as in crispy but not oily)chunks of eggplant with onions and peppers. Quite tasty and even better when dipped in curry sauce.Service is friendly and efficient. Parking is relatively easy. Several adjacent restaurants have closed so parking has freed up.Prices are moderate and have gone up over time due to inflation and other factors. Nevertheless, Theres a lot to choose from at Mingala and most if it is good.Perhaps Mingala will start to offer some more Home cooking style Malaysian and burmese cuisine. Most restaurants think people dont want to eat that kind of stuff...I think otherwise. Thats how they got started in the first place. We will return.

2022-10-01 16:56:47We went for a dinner and four of us. We ordered 4 items from the menu.1. Burmese Tea Leaf Salad: - It was ok in taste, had a little bit and then found a hair inside it, so returned it and the manager gave the refund.2. Red Curry Chicken: - It was good, had proper flavors.3. Sambal Belachen Fried Rice: - This was the best dish on the menu.4. Roti Parantha (Chicken): - This was the most flavorful dish.Overall staff and service was nice. Restaurant seemed a bit old from tables and cutlery.

2023-11-23 05:21:03Im not usually one to comment but Id be remiss if I didnt for Mingala. The food was amazing, as was the service! We had the black pepper tofu, tea leaf salad, and the vegetarian laksa. All of them exceeded expectations and I cant wait to come back again. The service was great too, with very pleasant staff. Highly recommend!

2023-12-06 21:05:21We would go out of our way from San Jose to Fremont, and now Newark to get a few of our favorite dishes from Mingala, like Cha Kuey Teow, Chow Bee Hoon, and Burmese Tea Leaf Salad. However, their food quality seems to have gone downhill ever since they moved. Not sure why, but we gave it at least half a dozen chances. It is too bad, but time to move on.
