Went there for a banquet (suckling pig banquet ~$999). Service was great and was able to secure a banquet room so not too noisy (wedding banquet outside). Food was decent considering there was a wedding banquet the same night (would suggest avoiding wedding parties if possible at any restaurants as they cant properly prepare your food to its best ability). Not the best place if youre entertaining out of town friends but decent for eating out on own/family.

Place is packed. Theres no parking I had to park a few lots away and the place is 90% full 1 hr before lunch at lunch time its 100% full.Ordered fried rice, 3 dimsum and tea my total was 33$ so about 40$ for 2 ppl it should be around 70 as the serving is huge.Anyway the food is good and I cant really complain. I will go back with family next time.

Xo sauce is the best here, worth the 5 bucks and dont forget to ask for a tiny sauce container to take it Togo. Gotos include their 流沙包(Liu sha[flowing sand] bao) with the pineapple bun topping and siu mai. Service isnt great, speaking canto barely helps, but thats the way I like it to keep prices down, Im not here for a Michelin experience.

Delicious Dim-Sum at reasonable prices. Venue seems clean and staff very friendly and helpful. You pick the Dim-Sum from a paper form and then they bring you the dishes afterwards, no carts involved. Parking is very limited. They have a Hong Kong style BBQ dishes by the entrance. I would definitely come back again.

Wow, solid dim sum at a fantastic price point and fast service. We came around 11:30am and there was a little bit of a wait, but not too bad considering we were a group of 15. It’s to be expected when arriving after 11am on a weekend especially at an iconic local favorite spot like Monterey Palace.We ordered almost everything on the dim sum menu and all the dishes came out fresh and tasty. Savory dishes I personally love include the braised chicken feet, radish cake, sticky rice, steamed shrimp rice rolls, steamed pork rice rolls, fried football shape with pork/shrimp inside, spareribs with pumpkin, egg tarts and Portuguese tarts. We especially loved the golden cream buns that sold out by the time we left. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

I havent been here in a while. Theyve remodeled decades ago, and removed the push-cart dim sum --*childhood memories crushed*. Their service was lackluster for a while there. So I was EXTREMELY hesitant to come here this past weekend. Regardless of what I thought though, these guys have always remained famous enough, that their tiny parking lot has always had issues with people trying to fight for parking spots, and navigating through each other to get in and out, because everyone else just loves to come here. I dont have pictures this time, but Ill admit, service has improved again. You can easily tell which items were bought from a central location, and which ones were done in-house. Admittedly, their 燒賣 (ShiuMai) must be done in-house, but they were kinda all over the place. They beat out 黃金閣(Golden House) for fugly-looking 燒賣. While Golden Houses was more wrinkly, here, they looked like they suffered from multiple sclerosis. Rightly so, we took the 燒賣 out of their miseries, by only getting a single order of 4, then cut them for 5 people to share. The waiter sort of looked at us funny, but cut them as we asked --albeit extremely unevenly, just as uneven as their 燒賣 had been to begin with. Otherwise though, the taste was better than the last time I was here, and it was actually fresh, compared to their dinner items I had a couple years back. So I hope management has finally hired the right people and treat them well enough to keep things improving.

PreCovid this was premium premium going back years. I remembered returning from ski trips at Big Bear or Mountain High and this place is a must stop en route to our west coast home.Not only do we eat there, we ALWAYSTa pao the most delicious salted chicken and roast duck!!! So this is a birthday dinner for our 21 year old niece . Crab was freshest and steamed perfectly. If you want to impress or indulge this is the place to go to!!!This is the spot for our Mother’s Day, birthdays, weddings and treating any overseas visitors . The best!!!!

This place was new probably 10 years or less in this area. Parking here at this restaurant was considered average, which means that not enough spaces for customers to park. The restaurant looked comfortable and bright. Foods at this restaurant were also average, it wasnt too salty or oily as others establishment. Services at this place were good and friendly. Have not tried their dim sum yet but will do on the other dates.

A friend recommended that I come here since he said the stuff they make here is fresh. I really like dim sum so I was down to try. Parking lot is rather small so youll have to find street parking probably. Wait was about 30-40 min. Its not a cart dim sum place. Instead you order on a sheet of paper and they bring out the food. Each dish was good. The hao gao skin had a nice and springy texture as well as fresh shrimp. Everything else that came was delicious too. Overall great experience here. Would come again. Probably come early to find parking and less wait time.

Food here is generally good compared to Chinese restaurants in Greater LA. That means it is much better than national average because LA is possibly the most competitive market in the US for Chinese restaurants.I have tried dimsum in the morning, and they deserve 3.8 stars in terms of quality. They do not have dimsum carts. You order them with an order sheet. I like this better than the dimsum cart style because you do not have to always check around for carts passing by, and you do not get a lot of unwanted solicitation.Dimsum prices are good on weekdays. All dimsum is priced at $3.19 per order, and the per head charge is $1.30. Thats not bad at all.A turnoff for me is the sanitary B rating. It seems that some customers do not care. Parking can be a headache during lunch/dinner hours.

I will not come back to this restaurant. The taste and the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant are not relevant anymore. The attitude of the owner was so rude. Instead of being the host of the restaurant, he treated us (his guests) as if his employee. It is worse than having bad service, it is condescending to the customers.

A classic in the area, filled with locals and visiting family and friends. As others have mentioned, it’s not a traditional push cart dim-sum, but there is a reason there’s almost always a line.Everything is done well, with the stand-outs being the chicken feet, the shrimp and scallops dumplings, the durian puffs. The roast pork here is the best in LA county. The soup dumplings, Thai durian puffs, and special fried rice rolls are below standard of other nearby restaurants.Tip - get up and ask a waiter for the hot mustard and hot chili sauce. That way you may be able to avoid the $1 fee for hot sauce.

Celebrated my daughters graduation with a whole roasted suckling pig banquet... Fantastic pig not too young where the skin is too thin and lacks meat but just right. Banquet included lobster and walnut shrimp all of which was perfectly done. For around $525 with gratuity, its a good price.

The food was delicious! However the service was pretty bad. We felt very rushed while ordering and then we were pretty much forgotten after getting our food. We had to get up to find someone to give us our check because no one was in sight. Mind you it was 3pm on a tuesday so it wasnt busy at all. The restrooms were disgusting. There was a fly zapper up on the wall next to us in the dining area so hearing it zap every so often during our meal was gross. Like I said, the food is great and its at a good price point too. Its definitely an experience coming to this restaurant, no doubt about it.

Dim sum was very good! I miss the carts though. Unfortunately they give you a paper with item names but no description of what it is. I ordered something and was so surprised because it was something I had wanted for a long time but couldnt describe. The place looks very clean and bright. If you order off their regular menu (chowmein), the portions are huge!Service, definitely needs help but the food was worth the frustration!

Overall rating: 3The restaurant was mostly full of Chinese speaking customers except for our diverse table of 5 (1 Caucasian; 1 Indonesian; 2 Chinese and 1 Japanese).Food: 3 stars for Dim SumThe siumai dumpling was mushy, malformed and the bits of shrimp were not good quality. However, the leek/chive shrimp dumpling was good as was the black bean spareribs with pumpkin. The crispy shrimp rice noodle was a hit and I enjoyed it more here than at Lunasia. Pan fried turnip was larger than Lunasias and had a nice sear. One of the guests at my table really liked that and the baked pork bun with the crunchy topping, but I would have preferred steamed char siu bao. The shrimp har gao; chicken feet were just a-ok.Service: 3 stars No rolling food carts for dim sum -- you need to decide what you want ahead of time and mark it on a sheet and hand that to the waiter.Be sure to order tea and water at the beginning of the meal because all of the servers will ignore you the rest of your meal. (it would have been 2 stars, but they took off an undelivered item from our check as requested and also gave us free mango pudding (was a little too firm, though).The restaurants staff has a reputation for being rude and I did witness that here and there, but it wasnt as bad as the waiter at the legendary Sam Wo in San Francisco (now closed).Despite my rating Monterey Palace a 3, Id be interested in going back to try a la carte entree and side items because thats what most people were doing unlike the group I was a guest of (unfortunately, my groups Chinese host didnt read up on the restaurants signature dishes beforehand).

This is a good place to have authentic southern Chinese cooking and they have great BBQ items as well.Though theyre price is not on the economy side but their ingredients are fresh and high qualify. The serving portions for dine in items are generous as well.They also have Dim Sum as breakfast items. Services are great and attending. Would definitely return to try the other items on the menu the next time.Good place for family Chinese meals with a large party group. The parking lot is small for the seating size but you can find plenty of parking near by on the streets as well.

It was good and economic price before. Now their food quality is a little slide down. Price is still economic compared to other dim sum place. They sell flat rate (4.59) for every dimsum, but they removed some of my favorite dimsum and upgrade one plate (steam pork rib with noodles) to a special flat ($9.5). I have no idea why they did that. I didnt notice at the beginning and ordered another pork rib steam noodle and it didnt tastes very good.Service is still as good as before. Maybe I came in weekdays and they are not very busy.

I hate.to dock them but the quality has dropped since the crazy pandemic. Prior to the lock down the quality and service was better. First time we came back to this restaurant since 2019. They spaced the tables further apart than before which made it more comfortable. We did not back our chairs to the next table. We were there early and it was not crowded, the restaurant got busy by the time we finished our dinner. We ordered 4 entrees for 3 people, the dishes came out in a reasonable time and every dish is tasty. Service was fine and we had a very nice meal.

They can serve Chinese banquet. I cannot really say this food is more spectacular than other banquet restaurants, but it is definitely not worse. The servers were efficient and friendly enough. If you go in knowing there is a cultural difference when it comes to friendly service, then you will not be disappointed. The parking lot has a one way entrance behind the restaurant and wraps around to the front. Ample street parking nearby.

When I first try and order the dim sum there, I thought the server may swing by the table with the food cart, asking people what they want to order. It turns out that we have to put a checkmark in the box next to the name of the food we want to order, but Im getting used to the service. The interior look clean. Just went there for a take out order. This place is open for take out only for cash payment. Right now, the restaurant has very limited items, not many dim sums to offer. We did managed to get our favorite chicken glutinous rice and Shui Mai. besides dim sums, the restaurant still makes the usual BBQ stuffs available. This place has one of the best BBQ porks in town. we ordered whole bunch of other BBQ fairs as well such as chicken and ribs. One regular main dish they offer here today was the lotus root pigs feet, one of my favorite Cantonese foods. Without hesitation, we one to go. Its good to have my craving of BBQ satisfied today.

Overall, I would come again but it would not be my first choice.Best:- Cheung fun. Very silky and soft. Especially love the crueller wrapped ones. One of the best Cantonese food you can get in Southern California. I had one problem with a waitress on AUG 18, 2021. I saw the female waitress using the same gloves for removing dirty dishes from a table and serving new clean ones on the tables. My mom and I told her about it and she refused to change new gloves and argued. This is cross contamination. Basic hand hygiene with sanitizer or soap and water can fix this issue. The other male waiters were helpful.

Food was so so, nothing special, the biggest turn off of this place is the service, it was sucks and a half. If you pay for the food, at least to get some sort of service, but when it comes to tips, these waiters/waitresses have the nerve to suggest the double digit tipping recommendation on the bill. These people need to go to hospitality education to understand tipping is for service and is not a requirement.

Huge menu, difficult to choose! No wonton soup listed, some dishes under-seasoned. Best dish we had was stir-fried Spencer steak with vegetables and a delicious brown sauce. My co-workers and I met here for dim sum this past weekend. Monterey Palace is one of his favorite places for dim sum in SGV.I was running late. By the time I got there they already ordered a number of dishes. My co-worker and his wife frequent this place so I left everything to them. They ordered the usual stuff and a few that Ive never tried before. One of my favorite is the rice noodle cake stuffed with fried chinese donut and fish cake. Texture and flavor were spot on.The service seemed normal for Chinese restaurants. Servers had a tad of an attitude when we asked for extra waters.Parking is bad. Youre probably better off finding street parking.

I have been visiting them for a long time. However, it has closed due to the pandemic. It is still closed as of June 9th, 2021. I hope that they will reopen soon. It was only one of a few decent dim sum restaurants in town.

I usually come here on Saturdays or Sundays for dim sum with the family.The waiters are pretty responsive and will cater to your requests.There is a small parking lot, but it can get full during peak times, so you might end up having to park on the street.As for the food, the dim sum is pretty good, and they have some interesting options that they dont have anywhere else. For example they have a durian tart dessert that I havent seen anywhere else. I hate durian so I didnt try it :)If youre looking for reasonably priced yummy dim sum, this is your place to go to.

If you dont speak chinese goodluck. I ordered 6 pork bun here while it was completely empty in the lobby with only 4 tables occupied. Waited 30mins as the lady goes 5 more mins. 5mins later more people came in to order for take out and got there food before me. Another guy i spoke with ordered 3 pork bun after me after an hour the lady goes they ran out i can either exchange or wait a few more minute. When my food was ready it was sitting there for another 10mins because the cashier was helping other people and other lady was seating people. I just reached over the counter and grabbed my food since it had my ticket number on it. God knows when i was going to get my order. someone recommended this but never again am im coming here.

Not peanut allergen sensitive or aware. Didn’t have peanuts listed on menu and didn’t understand the issue of food being contaminated with peanuts not being consumable by person with peanut allergy. Tried to charge us for the chicken feet that had peanuts in it after we asked for it to be returned and the hot water I asked for to help allergic person’s throat stop swelling. I would not recommend going here if you have any type of food allergy or sensitivity.

This restaurant eschews from the traditional push-cart dim sum, instead you order from a menu and its brought out to you. Im a fan. You definitely have to take foreigners to the push-cart variety for fun, but when youre there for the dim sum, its really more a nuisance to have to wait for the carts to roll by. Im just docking a star because they dont offer my favor filling for the sesame balls, they only have red bean.

One of my most favorable restaurants that serves with Dim Sum and Cantonese food in Monterey Park for over 10 years. The food tastes good, I believe the chefs are from Guang Dong or Hong Kong. I like small dumplings which is really delicious. The sticky chicken rap (Luominji) is one of my must order each time I got the restaurant. Parking is a little difficult if going there after 10:30 am during weekend.

A piglet still feeding on its mothers milk between ages of 2 and 6 weeks when its taken to the slaughter house...feel bad for it yet? The texture and meat quality is somewhat gelatinous because of the amount of collagen in a piglet and for a cool $260 you can have it all to yourself like a disgusting King from Game of Thrones, or me because my arm was twisted to eat it. Yes, it was delicious and gave its life for a noble cause. Was it worth that price? Nope.

My group of 4 decided to dine here on a Sunday afternoon around 4:30 pm. There was no wait and so I did not experience the horrendous service that I had last time. As a matter of fact, I believe we were the only party seated for our early dinner!The server was very good with recommendations and a total of 4 dishes were ordered:-Cha Siu platter-Salt & Pepper shrimp-Seafood and tofu clay pot-Off-the-Menu noodle dish that is better than my momsTo clarify, the off-the-noodle dish was created because I wanted to order a noddle dish with Shanghai rice cakes. The server told me there were none and so a conversation was had between us about my moms home cooked Toisan food and a rice noodle dish unique to my culture. Lo and behold, the head chef, who was also Toisan, agreed to make a noodle dish similar to my moms home cooking because they were out of the rice noodles we initially ordered.A+ for the jokes (though I think my moms cooking is still better!) and the earnest efforts to please our party. :) The noodle dish was stir-fried with pieces of marinaded pork belly, Chinese sausage and napa cabbage.As for the food, the seafood clay pot was cooked very well. There were good, equal portions of the bean curd tofu, fish, shrimp, bok choy & squid. It was a crowd pleaser amongst our table as was the salt & pepper shrimp. The cha siu plate looked a little small to me but the meat was flavorful.Bottom line: Learning from my past experience with the bad service, the key to good dining at Monterey Palace is to definitely come early.

Have eaten here for as long as I remember. My aunt had recommended this place to my grandma and when my grandparents were still alive, we would come and dine here. THis one of my grandma and grandpas favorite restaurant to go to. What I definitely enjoyed is the bathroom. I know this coming from me.. but the restroom had reminded me of Hong Kong. The picture of the Hong Kong Jockey club in the bathroom, the fan that just continuously moved slowly, the decor and the carpeting resembled the HK bathrooms in most of the restaurants. Then of course outside in the restaurant dining area, there are several pictures of Hong Kong, There is a night view of Hong Kong in the dining area which always gets me emotional when I think of Hong Kong. Fortunately the food is still good after all these years. There is so many restaurants in monterey park to try, this is one of the few you must try.
