We were touring the area around Morro Bay and came across this little museum. Quite a find and lots of local stories about the area (including its as Navy training). On display is a real DSRV (something like the one you see in Hunt for Red October).

The museum is very small yet full of history and the two males in there were very nice and knowledgeable. I believe they volunteer. There is a lot of parking g space and admission is free however donations are welcome. There are boats and submarines. Children are welcome and they are allow to get into the attractions. It is clean and wheelchairs can be accommodate. Be respectful and enjoy!

This is such a hidden gem. The people running the museum are so warm and friendly and happy to share local history, and the exhibits outside are fantastic (theres one about knots, one about how block and tackle works)! Highly recommend visiting and supporting this local treasure :)

Very nice free Maritime Museum. Museum offers signage for each exhibition. They also have docents on site that offer additional information and knowledge of the entire Museum if you have any questions.This is a free museum and donation are allowed.

Fun place to visit, kid friendly. Its small and free but make a small donation. We visited when the Titanic submersible accident happened and they have several submersible that were interesting. Volunteers are friendly and will gladly answer questions

Thought small, they made great use of the space they had. The admission is free with the option for a donation (please donate when there to keep it going). The staff were my favorite part because they were so friendly, personable and knowledgeable.It’s a great way to learn about the history and see boats and a submarine up close. Plenty of free parking in the lot.

I had a previous review but accidentally deleted it so having to do it again. I’ve been to this place several times and always enjoy it, donate and buy books. The family and I were there couple of days ago in which Dale was working outside and short haired woman whom was very helpful (sadly I didn’t catch her name). We bought a brick so looking forward to seeing that once we come back. I highly recommend this place ❤️👍

So new to the waterfront that its not even officially open yet. Some boats and a cool rescue sub are on display. Happy to check out what little is there. Looking forward to seeing the museum grow and evolve into a world-class destination.

Dont let the size of the museum fool you. Its densely packed and you can spend a lot of time in here studying the various artifacts.The interactive video library is great.Cathy knows so much about the maritime history here. Her explanations and conversation light up the museum.

I visited twice and learned from two different staff members! it was extraordinary. i purchased three books and a knot tying box (the last one!). i’m excited to read more about the cool maritime history. those rescue subs are astonishing. if you’re curious, make it a point to chat with the staff.please visit! pay respect to history and the preservation of morro bay.

Awesome little free museum with some neat exhibits on local maritime history and some great artifacts. The big one you notice out front is the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle USS Avalon. They also have a couple of minisubs, a 31 foot Coast Guard rescue boat, a fishing boat and a tug that rescues the crew of the first ship sunk by the Japanese after Pearl Harbor. Highly recommended!

Small maritime museum. Part inside, part outside. Volunteer staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Learned some interesting pieces of information. It will not take too much time out of your day. Worth going. No entrance fee, donations help keep it going. Open on certain Saturdays. Check website for schedule.

Great little museum. Good job with the different displays. There is a Coast Guard 30 footer there that needs some love. There is a U.S. Coast Guard station across the street and they dont volunteer to come over and shine her up. Poor form boys, back in my day......😂

It had only been open 2 weeks when we visited. Its small, but there are some very interesting exhibits. The staff on hand was very knowledgeable about the different exhibits. Super friendly, and they knew their stuff! Very easy to get to, right off the main drag in Morro Bay. Admission is free during their grand opening., which I believe is through December 2018. After that, Im not sure what the entrance fee will be. There are a lot of no-nos, so I wouldnt recommend very small children. This place is well worth your time!

This is a really cool little museum 20 some-odd years in the making. It focuses on local history fairly well and has a lot of really well preserved and restored artifacts. I even got to go on the coast guard boat to have a look around! The only downside is the size, but with time that will get better. For now though, its a wonderful way to kill an hour.

This was a find. Its small with just a few exhibits. It wont take much time out of your site seeing, kayaking or whatever brought you to Morro Bay. The staff couldnt be better and they know something of Morro Bays past. It wont be there much longer, but we had a wonderful tour of a WW2 USAAF recovery boat. Well worth the time.

Great place with incredible service in every store, restaurant or the people in the streets (tourists). Prices affordable for every budget, lunch or dinner in the delicious restaurants in the area or only $10 dollars for 45 minutes trip in the ferry. Is great place for all ages.

Lots of great history and info packed into a small venue. Well worth taking time to check this place out. Public restrooms are nearby. Activities along the oceanfront are within an easy walk including a bicycle trail and restaurants.

If your going to Morro Bay at the coast, make sure to go see the aquarium. You can feed the sea lions. Its fun watching them jump, yell, and fight for the fish people toss them. Its only $3:00 a person. little ones are free. Theres a gift shop, and clothes to buy.The workers are friendly and nice.

A interesting little place to explore in Morro Bay. The Deep diving submersible is impressive. Today they were putting up Christmas lights, and the people were friendly. I enjoy my short time here. Worth a stop especially if you have seen the staples around town. You just never know what you might see when you go to Morro Bay.

It only took 25+ years but finally open!! I adore local gems like this. Small little museum but jam packed with really neat local maritime artifacts from three foot long shells fired from a Japanese submarine deck-mounted cannon to an early native peoples reed boat used to fish abalone when they used to be unbelievably populous around here and staffed with enthusiastic and very knowledgeable docents. When open make sure you catch one of the 4+ movies in their 3-4 person theatre thats in the back and go outside and up the stairs to clamber about the coast guard rescue boat that is fully open to the public(so cool!!). More legacy oceangoing vessels and curiosities being added regularly and always excepting endowments or contributions of local seafaring relics. Free ($3 donation recommend but not required or guilt-tripped into) and somewhat impressive little gift shop with great souvenirs and trinkets. Perfect for kids as a last stop after a bay day, on your way home from the embarcadero with family/friends, or reason enough alone to make the trip and take in some beautiful Morro Bay fogshine at the waterfront.

A will be Maritime Museum once they start to build it. There are three interesting exhibit there at the moment. An underwater rescue submarine, an old tug boat and a Coast Guard lifeboat. If in Morro Bay worth a stop on the way to visit Morro Rock.
