Been here a few times and always a wonderful culinary delight...Once again we had an outstanding meal, we shared dishes of fried tomatoes, Brussel sprouts, bean soup with foccacia, house made pasta with mushrooms.....everything was fantastic!!!..cant wait to visit again.....Im not a vegetarian but just really enjoy good food..everything was so delicious 😋
Mothers gets flavor and freshness right with a varied and unique menu. The kale caesar is the best ceesar salad I’ve ever had. Packed with umami and very satisfying. I’d eat at Mothers VERY frequently if I lived in Sacramento, and I’m not even a vegetarian.
Everything there is always yummy. As a plant based eater, its always nice to have restaurant create delicious and nutritious meals with flavor.
This was one of the best things I did in Sacramento when I visited in December. What you see pictured here was devoured so fast. Chicken fried mushroom po boy. It was 100% vegan and 100000% delicious. I ordered it with a side of the daily special Brussels sprouts. I regret nothing. I would have eaten here every day but they were closed the following 2 days. I thank my goodness fortune for going there right after I landed. 🤤
Trying a new spot because we just wanted some healthy good eats that the hubby can enjoy and we’ve been wanting to try Mother Sacramento. All vegetarian & vegan menu and farm to fork goodness..We tried their Chicken Fried Mushroom Po Boy w/ House-made Pickles, Hot Sauce, Drive Thru Aioli, Iceberg Lettuce on a Home Made Roll, TMans Wedding Lasagne W/ Kale, Button Mushrooms, Tomatillo Marinara and Broccolini, and sides of Coin Fries W/ Smoked Aioli and Collard Greens W/ Garlic & Hot Sauce.Need I say more... I can do vegetarian when it’s cooked like this! Getting more ideas for home.
Happy Mother is open again. Same wonderful food and service. We ate outside and they even brought our dog a bowl of water.

Great vegan friendly restaurant laid back and has colour coded stickers on the menu saying what items are vegan or can be and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the chikn sandwhich tasted like calamari to me👌

Kale Caesar salad... Wow!!! A delightful, quaint little place downtown, sure to please any vegan and vegetarian. There were 7 in our party, so we tried everything on the menu. We all agreed the deep fried mushrooms were the best we ever had! I thought making a Po Boy sandwich with those really clever. Everything we ordered was so delicious, and we enjoyed trying each others food, as it was so untypical!!!
Went to Mother on my birthday. It was a perfect vegan dinner. We reserved chefs special ($120 for two, 8 dishes). Totally satisfied. We had to take half of the food with us. We will definitely return to try something new.
Definitely one of my staples for vegetarian food in Sacramento. They have a massive selection of tasty food. The staff is super polite and makes awesome suggestions. The drink selection is solid. The prices are totally reasonable for what you get. I love Mother.

Incredible food, epically prepared and they have kombucha on tap. Mother really delivers on everything a good vegetarian restaurant should be. The food is delicious, filling and will keep you coming back. The location is pretty small so of you go during lunch ordering to go is often a good option.
This place is pure goodness. There is good food here that will please anyone. The chili is outstanding! Their kombucha on draft is fantastic too. Limited seating but we went twice and were able to secure a spot with minimal effort. Highly recommend!
I visited Mother Restaurant a few months ago and ordered to go. The experience was great and the food was absolutely amazing! The employee who took my order was knowledgeable about the menu and patient as I decided what to purchase. I ordered the nut burger & both the brown butter molasses and vegan chocolate chip cookies to go. They offered me water as I waited and brought my order to me when it was ready. I wish there were vegan / vegetarian restaurants like this where I live!

Went here with a vegetarian friend. My dish was a good gnocchi, but was very small for costing 16 dollars. The other people in my group thought that their plates were small as well. I appreciate their well-done vegetarian menu, but would not come back because of their price point in portion size.
I don’t know what makes kale more, or less bitter, but it was too bitter for me on this day. The brussel sprouts were very rich and super tasty. The burger was tasty, but I don’t know what makes veggie burgers fall apart as this one did. Order at the counter and they call out your name. Friendly staff good vibes.
I had the mushroom po-boy and was astounded by how incredibly tasty it was. The fried mushrooms were at least as good, if not better than shrimp. Since I was dining alone I really liked the counter service and the small tables -- but it would be a great place for a small group too.
Im primarily vegetarian, but even my meat eating comrades love this place. The food is always good and come out swiftly. They offer some awesome options that the switch up fairly regularly. One of the best mixes of interesting/excellent and affordable restaurants in Sacramento as far as I am concerned. Its also my go to date spot because its near lots of cool spots to check out after.
The best vegetarian place i have ever been. Vegan options available too. Place is looks trendy and hip. You order & pay at the counter and then grab the place. Food will come to you. Food was delicious well seasoned and prepared. Very creative & gourmet dishes. Definitely coming back!
Mother Restaurant is a very good vegan restaurant that works for a specific niche of eaters. Those who would like to eat vegan Uber-healthy food that is responsibly raised will enjoy the food, but those who would prefer meat or cooked food should pass. The mother staff is very nice and polite, but the food is a bit too selective.
Visited here many times now with a few different seasonal menus. Everything has always been delicious, and their daily lemonade flavors are so so SO good. Im not a vegetarian but this is still my #1 choice when eating downtown.
Mother has a great, funky atmosphere. Its a small place with a few wooden booths that are very roomy, and some stools along a side counter. They also have baby high chairs and quite a few outside tables that all seat two.Their seasonal menu looked fantastic for being so small. I had the Nut Burger which was borh delicious and filling! It did not taste like meat, it was more like a super luxury veggie burger. My friends each had the Mushroom PoBoy and loved it!Service was 5-Stars as well! The waitress was incredible being happy to walk us through menu questions and constantly refilling our water glasses. Highly recommended especially if youre trying out a vegetarian restaurant in Sacramento for the first time!Its a couple of doors east of the theatre downtown, so easy to find with tons of parking choices. ProTips: you dont have to feed the meter after 6pm and pay at the register.
If you are looking for a vegetarian restaurant and not concerned about your arteries this is the place. The PO boy deep fied. Lacked lacked flavor. The coined fries were deep fried, tasted like they cooked them yesterday. It left a strange taste in my mouth. The nut burger tasted it better but there was no texture and it was soggy. thank If you want better tasting and healthier food go to the bay area Berkeley.
Great place for great food! Everything I have ever had here is delicious! They changed their menu but I used to get a green version of their eggs benedict and wow! It was so incredibly good! I would order that every time if I could!!
Awesome place. Great food and amazing staff. My brother and I were road tripping through California and one of the staff members, Megan, took the time to help us out and gave us a lot of useful tips. All in all, this place was the highlight of Sacramento; we really appreciated the hospitality.
CHICKEN. FRIED. MUSHROOMS. WOW! They were amazing. They were smothered with aioli sauce and came with a side of hot sauce. I skipped the hot sauce cause they were already perfect without it. This was my first time trying this place while I was visiting Sacramento. Ill definitely be going back to this spot when I return in a few weeks. I think Ill try the chicken fried mushroom poboy next time PLUS a side of chicken fried mushrooms...theyre that good!
Got their mushroom chicken Po boy, and we loved it. Generous portion with a yummy sauce. A lot of other great options on the menu too, unfortunately we couldnt try them since we had already had lunch. Must visit!
The food is just not very desirable. I had a hard time finding something I like on a menu, and it didnt turn out very good anyway (lazania). I wanted something clean and with a good amount of protein. I feel like most everything on the menu was carbs. Kind of pricey too considering the kind of place it is. I would not recommend and I would not revisit.
TERRIBLE. You know that taste when you throw up a bit in the back of your throat? That’s what the collard greens taste like. One of the most disgusting flavors I’ve ever tasted. And this is coming from a lifelong (mostly) vegetarian. I don’t like to waste food but I did not eat it. Very small portion size for the price as well.The nut burger was not very good either; the bbq sauce clashed BAD with the mediocre spiced flavor of the patty. And when you call something an onion ring, the assumption is it’s batter fried—not a plane piece of onion. This was also the first time I can remember ever having unsweetened ice tea that I didn’t like—again, poor flavor. Did not drink it either.I love vegetarian food and restaurants! This place is AWFUL. I wasted $20 and did not finish anything. All staff said when they cleared my uneaten entres which I politely said I didn’t really like, was “okay.” Again, I am someone who would normally finish food just to avoid it going to waste. The place was packed so apparently a lot of people like it... Personally I recommend going pretty much ANYwhere else. Still trying to get the gross flavors out of my mouth!

For as quick as you can eat here, the food is some of the best Ive had. Great variety between sandwiches and pastas and salads. And if youre trying to convince a meat-eater that theres plenty to like in all vegetarian cuisine, take them here.
Mother is really really amazing and Im so glad to see more and more vegetarian/vegan. Food is AMAZING, reasonably priced, extremely friendly and quick service, and the restaurant is super cutesy and cozy :) Cant wait to be back! PS try the chicken fried pull-boy sandwich on Acme bread. Its my favorite item here :)
I got the Chicken Fried Mushroom Po Boy. It was Frickin Amazing! Arrived and they were only open 10 more minutes. Staff were all super friendly and even asked if I wanted to dine in. You could tell they were all having a good time working there.
A vegetarian restaurant near the Capitol Building. I had the chicken-fried mushroom po-boy, which was OK (I found the thick bread unbalanced the bread-to-filling ratio needed for a good sandwich). My partner got the chile verde with roasted potato, which she was able to make vegan. She liked it and says it was a very attractive presentation. The service was fine. Grabbing a table inside during lunchtime can be challenging.
This rating is based on one item only, but wow, the fried mushroom po boy is the most delicious po boy I have ever eaten. This sanwhixh is usually greasy, but Mother manages to make it kind of light and fresh while still tasting amazing. The mushrooms taste a little like calamari; Im not sure if that was the intention. The bread roll is perfect. I also ordered the collard greens, whixmch are pretty difficult to make without pork and animal fat. They were good and spicy but a little thin.

Takeaway: Great Food. Worth waiting for. Food is great (try the poboy if youre not sure.) Service was good. Got in for lunch right at 11am, but the wait started shortly thereafter. Came for dinner around 6pm and had a 30 minute wait. Located on K Street, so parking can be an issue and you should add some time for walking.
Holy smokes this place is delicious! We split some greens and the fried mushroom poboy and I swore it was seafood we were eating in that sandwich!! It was so good, crispy and flavorful!! Did not miss the meat at all!

Know that is not the case, and must have been uploaded as a truly tasteless joke...
One of the most underrated restaurants in Sacramento. Great food. Many times its locally sourcing the produce. The lunch menu is great, so is the dinner menu. Dishes range between $5 and $15.
Was just there today on October 22 for my second time. I’ve had the special ravioli and chili verde. Both were excellent. If this place was in LA, there would never be an open seat. Outstanding.
Absolutely love this place! I have tried about 8 of their lunch dishes and have never been disappointed. The staff is always courteous, the food is always fresh, and the ambiance is great. I would definitely recommend it!
Three for dinner. Son received his Nut Burger and waited for us to receive our dinners. After 10 minutes we requested him to eat it before it became cold. He was almost done when my wifes Focaccia arrived. She is a slow eater, but was more than half done before my lasagne arrived. The burger was good, according to my son, but not remarkable. The cheese on the focaccia was IMHO overcooked, though acceptable. The lasagne was surrounded by a tomatilllo dressing. Superb. The dressing. The lasagne had too much garlic and salt (or garlic sauce), which stayed in my mouth until I had an orange an hour later. The service and the food deserved a very small tip, if any. But Mother restaurant requires you order the food and pay the tip before taking a seat. If dinner on Thursday night with hardly any takeout orders can throw the kitchen for a loop, I wonder what happens on busy nights.
The burger is delicious! I dont generally like kombucha because of the way it tastes but the kombucha they have on tap is the best Ive ever tried. Ask for a sample!
The chicken fried mushrooms here are too die for! I also ordered the mushroom po boy, but my Great Dane got ahold of it before I did lol considering it wasnt meat I dont think he could tell the difference, Ill definitely be back to try it out again!

The Flood was Amazing. Had leftovers of the Chicken Fried Mushroom sandwich with potato wedges. The Lemonade was so good. The leftover were even bomb the next day.
Not great. Felt confused when I walked in because the restaurant appears different from the online images. The staff wasnt friendly and the food was not very good, too much bread and poorly constructed sandwiches. Also found an ant in our water. Glad I know not to return or recommend.

Plating: beautiful and flavor: delicious and fresh ingredients. Im glad we shared this dish because the photo is 1/2 of what was served. Experience was so good, we are going to return.

2023-11-07 16:12:46Our second visit to Mother. Our first visit, everything was great. Food and service were outstanding. Tonight, we had my brother and his wife join us. They are basically vegetarians so we thought they would enjoy Mother. And they did. We ordered the curry dish, lasagne and mushroom po’boys. Everything was tasteful. We kinda messed up the dinner was the apple dessert the ladies each ordered. The pastry was burnt and boy could you taste it in the apples. We enjoyed the mains but the dessert was awful. And they don’t serve coffee.The service was outstanding!!I suggested we walk a block for coffee and dessert. We went to Ginger Elizabeth’s and had tasty desserts and excellent coffee.Mother is a place to go, but skip the dessert,.

2023-10-14 06:31:03This was my first time here. I thought the staff was friendly but the food was disappointing. I ordered the Mushroom Po Boy. I felt like I was eating deep fried air. Too much deep fried breading on a white bread roll. It tasted bland. My girlfriend got one of the salads. It had a lot of vegetables and cheese on it but it was small and not enough for a full meal.

2023-11-12 17:21:11We are visiting Sacramento, and ate at Mother last night. I am a plant-based eater; my husband is not (but, he enjoyed his fried green tomato caprese and focaccia dinner. He didnt even need to eat a burger later, lol). I loved the options on the menu! It was difficult to make a choice. I went with the pumpkin green curry with garlic rice. It was fantastic!! The veggies were all perfectly cooked and the sauce was scrumptious. As for atmosphere, I guess I was a little uncomfortable talking about certain subjects with my partner when other patrons were sitting so close. Im a very private, quiet sort of person. But, it wouldnt put me off from returning!!

2023-10-11 22:35:02We celebrated my daughter’s birthday at Mother bc my 12 year old grandson has gone vegetarian since January 2023. The food was delightful and I did not miss meat! The Po’boy Sandwich was so good and the house made potato chips have spoiled me for life now! I highly recommend this restaurant for everyone!

2017-03-01 18:13:31This has to be my new favorite spot, i cannot believe how tasty the food was, using simple vegetables to create such unique dishes is genius to say the least, i rarely get mesmerized by the food i eat but this is a first, this restaurant changes its menu every few months so you need to put in mind that there is a chance you wont be eating it again if your visits are far apart.Their menu is very simple, just a few main dishes and a few for salads hence there will be no confusion or being over whelmed by the menu ( which is available only on the wall prior to ordering)- we ordered :1.butter squash latkes with mustard roasted turnips and kohlrabi onions and horseradish yogurt sauce.2. Wedding lasagna with Brocolini and what i assume was an eggplant vinaigrette sauce3.friesThe atmosphere was hip and refreshing.This is a self- service place.Needless to say we will be back very very soon to try out the rest of the menu

2019-01-26 08:49:23First time here as well as visiting a vegetarian restaurant and I was so satisfied! The food was delicious and amazing and the staff was nice! I had the chicken fried mushrooms and nut burger and my friend had the western burger. Everything was so good and tasty! Ill definitely be back again!

2017-10-19 06:02:44Super terrific and delicious vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free food. Offers a limited number of dishes, but each is very well done. Im by no means a vegetarian, but the food is superb, and I dont just mean as compared to other meatless food. Ill be back.
