The sandwiches are large and filling. The mix of ingredients was very interesting but I think they need to add some seasoning/spices to the pork patties. I wasnt impressed by the potato puffs, they had a nice crunchy coating but they didnt have any flavor inside. The service was outstanding and the seating area was clean and inviting. Ill definitely go back and try a few more things from the menu.

This sandwich place is definitely one of the best in OC. I love their pesto habanero sandwich and havent even bothered trying anything else because its just that good. There might be other great options on the menu, but I cant bring myself to order anything else. It gets my coveted stamp of approval.

Tasty & unique katsu sandwiches. They got a good variety of flavors along with delicious sides. I really enjoyed the Japanese toast they used for their sandwiches. I recommend the chipotle asiago & W.T.F. fries.Plenty of parking in the plaza. Expect to pay around $12-15 per person after tax and tip. More if you get fries + drinks. Would recommend!

First time having Katsu and definitely did not disappoint! I got the American breakfast sandwich and it was so so good. The sandwiches are huge so definitely could be eaten for two meals. The potato puffs have more of a mashed potato consistency rather than like a tater tot. Very delicious as well, especially with the sauce they came with! Overall great experience 😊

Cute shop in a plaza. I got the yakisoba combo and the original combo. $10 for original which is just pork katsu. $11 for yakisoba. Add $3 for the 3 small potato puff and fountain drink. It’s price is a bit up there in my opinion. It is pretty good though. I would recommend this place to people who loves different types of sandwiches. Their selections are pretty unique. The staffs are really nice too! They clean after people leave from their table so it’s very clean.

Fantastic lunch spot with hefty portions and creative variations. This place is all about their delicious katsu sandwiches. The katsu is moderately thick pork with extra crispy fried breading. The bread is thick square piece and I believe its egg bread. Their potato puffs are miniature potato croquettes and that smaller size really maximizes that satisfying crunch. Drink options are Pepsi and limited but they do have a couple beer options. Its a small dining area where you order at the counter, so they wont be able to handle large parties. Biggest problem is definitely parking.

Such a fun vibe! Love the art on the walls, the menu board is super cute, and the food is friggin delicious.i got the Kathy curry sandwich. So much flavor and you can control how much curry you want to eat with the sandwich. The staff are very polite and i love the welcome i got when i walked in. Service was quick and efficient. If youre too impatient to get your food made fresh, dont come. Im definitely going back!

Wasnt sure what to expect coming in, but woah was it good! I got the curry sandwich and the flavors were explosive! Portion size was pretty big and so half a sandwich was enough for me.The place in itself is fairly small and so might not do great for huge crowds. When we went it was not busy so it was easy finding seating but I can see it being difficult if it were busy. Overall, it has a fun environment to eat youre great food in!

Good sandwiches for a quick lunch or outdoor picnic. We got the habanero pesto and chipotle Asiago and I was happy with the additional kick of spice in both. The katsu is solid and juicy. I did find myself tiring of the taste after a while, maybe because the sandwiches are pretty hefty. Saved half for later and baked it in the oven. I wouldn’t say these keep that well, but it was still okay tasting the next day.The potato puffs are good too, nice and crispy. I liked the curry ones a lot. Agree with other reviewers that it doesn’t exactly pair with the sandwiches. Perhaps a cool, more tangy side would work better?

Great Food! Order the Habanero Pesto Katsu! Spicy but the awesome sauce!!!! The restaurant is not to large and has the furnishings of a typical coffee shop. The tables and chairs are standard and the food is delivered in baskets lined with checkered paper. The flavor of the Katsu was definitely inviting and tantalizing and the sauce was as spicy as I had expected.. Highly recommend this place when youre in Southern Cal.This is a low-key Japanese fusion sandwich shop that specializes in pork sandwiches with coleslaw. Very tasty sandwiches. The price is excellent. It is a family run business. Good people running the Sandwich shop.

If you like Katsu then you’ll really enjoy the variety of different flavors of Katsu sandwiches here. The bread is soft and the pork katsu is crispy. If you like spicy I definitely recommend the Chipotle Asiago!

This is not a take on the food because I have not tried. I came in here into this place ready to eat some food, but I was very thirsty so I asked to the older gentleman whom I assume is the owner if I can please have a cup of water. He said no, then I asked again.. because I thought maybe he wasn’t understanding me and frankly I was quite surprised that he wouldn’t. He then said no again and it was for customers only.I said no problem, and I walked out.First, isn’t it illegal for restaurants to refuse free tap water? Please correct me if I’m wrong. I doubt it.Second, are you that cheap that you can’t give a small cup of tap water?It just really rubbed me the wrong way, I’ve never been to any restaurant or establishment that doesn’t give you some water when you ask for it. He had the tiny little plastic cups right there.Anyway that’s my take, I just didn’t feel any human decency and for that I won’t ever eat here.

Atmosphere is cozy and the food is great! When n.y friend and I dropped by, were tried to order the works which is almost every sandwich on the menu stacked together into one mega sandwich. They were surprised at the order and obliged. It was really good! I can safely say now that Ive eaten it, everything on the menu is delish! I highly recommend this place.

I love the fact that you get an incredible bargain for anything you eat here since the portion size is incredibly large. So if youre famished and want some hearty Japanese-style everyday food, you should come here. But on that note, there is definitely room for improvement. Flavor wise, the original sandwich is the best, but we tried the curry and habanero version also. The curry Katsu sandwich was flavorless and the curry tasted packaged. Although it was spicy, it definitely didnt augment the flavor the sandwich in any way. The Katsu itself could be more tender, even though they got the breading down, it desperately needs a brine to break down the toughness of the pork. The habanero sandwich was bland also. One other area for improvement is the wait time. Be prepared to wait for your food beyond the expected times for a casual restaurant like this.

Who ever would come up with the idea of putting katsu between more bread and coleslaw, or layering curry between the katsu and breads, and make a sandwich out of it? Pure genius. And I dont even like most cole slaw. Also the sandwich is huge and either a very filling meal in one sitting or two adequate meals split up.

Wasnt sure what a Japanese sandwich was but it was delicious. The owner used to work for a sushi place and had the idea for these sandwiches. Made with thick bread with your choice of meat and an Asian like slaw. These sandwiches are full of flavor. As a pesto lover. The habanero pesto is fantastic.

I was pleasantly surprised. I had the sandwich with katsu and goat cheese. The ingredients were fresh and it was very tasty. I especially liked the contrast between the warm bread and katsu paired with the cold coleslaw.

If you love port cutlet then you have to try it in a sandwich. I had the habanero pesto sandwich. It has a little kick in the end, but the slaw adds a great finish to it. I will be back to try another sandwich and the loaded fries.

My favorite sandwich shop in town. They have katsu sandwiches, croquettes, curry fries, bowls and more. I usually genthe umeboshi goat cheese katsu or the habanero pesto katsu. You cant go wrong really. 10/10

This place is good! I’ve been here a couple times with my girlfriend and we’ve gotten something different each time. The sandwiches are big and tasty. The Japanese bread they use for the… bread is really good and sweet. The katsu is crispy and flavorful as well. Also, the little potato croquettes are delicious with the sauce. I would 100% recommended this place to anyone that wants a katsu sandwich in the area.

I got the original katsu sandwich and it was okay. I did like the taste of the katsu itself but the thick toast made the sandwich as a whole a bit dry. Really good sandwiches. We liked the soba noodle sandwich, curry katsu sandwich, and American breakfast sandwich. The potato puffs are good. I would recommend ordering the side order over the combo. In the combo they only give 3 puffs. The curry fries are awesome. Definitely would try them again.

The curry with good chunks of potato is zesty, and I found myself dipping my toasted sandwich into it, as well as my fries. Nummy! Crunchy, zesty, flavorful lunch. Will definitely be returning for more. Wait was less than five minutes for my food. WowI am stoked to write this review. I just finished the last bite and started writing.Beyond my expectations.For my first visit, I went with their OriginalI didnt know what to expect. My order arrived and the portion was huge. Like Claim Jumper huge. You can really share a sandwich and be satisfied.The original arrived with what looked like a 1/2 pound pork cutlet, expertly deep fried to a golden brown. The savory cutlet is dressed with a delicious derivative of BBQ sauce called tonkatsu sauce, topped with a light slaw.All this is cradled by a freshly toasted Texas toast style bread thats french. This sandwich has girth. When I took the first bite, I could tell the ingredients were fresh and of good quality.At $9 this is a great value. I cannot wait for my next visit and its just 7 minutes from my buddys house.Highly recommend this joint. They do more than the average, a standout.Ill be back.

Very (VERY GOOD) Sandwich Shop! I hadnt heard of the place, I am not often in the area, we Yelped places to eat, and we were not disappointed. Large portions with excellent Pricing, Flavorful and tasty. The Potato Balls crunchy on the outside and soft and smooth inside. Fountain Drinks, Bottled Drinks and I dont Drink, I think Bottled Beer as well. Nice music playing while you Dine. Overall we took Leftovers for Lunch the next day! A must Stop! Visiting the area and randomly came across this great place. The sandwich menu is pretty big with alot of variety. If you like things hot and spicy you will love anything that has the flame next to it! Everyone was very friendly and excellent service. Oh and the potato balls (not sure actual name) are amazing! If you want something thats not typical fast food or just want a good sandwich ... Come hungry! The portions are plenty!

I always find something unique and appetizing when I try a different flavor of Japanese fried pork and chicken sandwiches here. Never disappointed. I discovered this place not too shortly after I started working in the area. Ive been 3 times since then and every time Im never disappointed. The guys who work here are really friendly and are always helpful in giving suggestions or explaining the menu. I personally love the American Breakfast and Habanero Pesto sandwiches. The croquettes are really good too. Even if I get a half order, the guys always hook me up with a few extra which shows how friendly they are to their customers.

I had not been back to Mr. Katsu since my last review of this place in 2016. Dang I have been missing out. Mr. Katsu is still legit, with unique flavors and delicious food all the way around. I personally ordered the Bacon Avocado and it was legit one of the best sandwiches Ive had in a while. You would think the teriyaki sauce would make it all too sweet, but it does the opposite, by combining all the flavors together to give you a unique bite every time. I hope that they get all the support and business to stay open for a long time. I feel like the location itself is kind of bad, and that they would benefit by moving elsewhere... but until then... I will be back!

I ordered the Katsu Curry. The portion was large and decent and a bit messy if you dont handle it correctly. I would have liked it more if it had a little more flavor to the curry. The potato puffs were spot on. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Goes well with the dipping sauce provided. I ordered the combo with the Katsu Curry for $3 with a regular drink, not beer. Came in on a Friday afternoon at around 1PM and the rush hour for lunch seems to have died down or have already gotten their meal.

I can never finish a whole sandwich in one sitting even though I try because its so tasty. I have tried the avocado bacon katsu sandwich and it was good. The sandwich pictured in this review is the american one with maple syrup. Crispy katsu and fluffy bread. I got the potato puppies too and they were delicious, a little on the sweet side. The service is warm and quick.

Had several great experiences at Mr. Katsu so far. The sandwiches are all very good. Im quite partial to the original but the standout after today is their What the Frick fries. It was surprisingly well balanced for a dish that consists of kalbi, kimchi, fries, and party sauce. In addition to the food being good, servuce is great too. Friendly staff and quick turnaround on orders.

First off, its not a bad idea to go here and split a sandwich with a friend. Im a big guy and can put away a couple of rounds at Thanksgiving dinner, but after one of these sandwiches, even I feel like taking a nap. As I was sitting there eating, everyone that left before me took a to-go box for the rest of their sandwiches since they couldnt finish it.So go in with a friend to help you out, or just be ready to have leftovers tomorrow. I tried the Umeboshi Goat Cheese Katsu because the cashier recommended it and she was right. It was really delicious and creamy. If youre a north county local, also try subscribing to efoodie because they have coupons for places in Brea, Fullerton, and Placentia. This place has coupons occasionally so its worth it!

Bring your appetite, sandwiches are HUGE!!! This place is so yummy! I ordered the original katsu sandwich and the curry fries. The pork cutlet is super juicy and crispy and they load up the slaw. The katsu sauce is nice and sweet and the slaw isnt too mayonaisey. The curry fries are shoestring fries topped with some curry. I do think that the curry is definitely on the savory side, not as sweet as most Japanese curry. It definitely has more of an Indian curry kick. I tried the croquettes as well and they are crispy and addicting. The sauce that comes with the croquettes is especially delicious. I definitely recommend this to everyone !

A narrow menu of sandwiches and sides, but what they do, they do right. The katsu and curry are on point with their other sandwiches also worth mentioning. Wow! The What The Frick Fries are finger licking good. The marinated kalbi is grilled and season slightly salty to compliment the fries. The potato puffs were okay after having the fries. We had the katsu curry sandwich which could have been improved with cole slaw but still very satisfying non the less. The umeboshi goat cheese is a must try, the cole slaw mixed well with the creamy goat cheese. The yakisoba is very filling and fun because I’d never thought to put noodles on a sandwich. We’ll have to go back to try the other sandwiches.
