One of the best coffee spots I have been to around this area! The cinnamon coffee was super tasty and warm, the cake was freshly baked that morning and one could tell with how fresh and delicious it was, and the environment was cute with chairs and a couch, old books, boardgames, a piano, and views of the beach from up there.Will definitely be coming back!!!
Drink their coffee. Eat their tasty Cardamom coffee cake. Have fresh quiche. Sit on the balcony and watch the people and pelicans in the Pacific. Weve been coming here forever, and their baristas all make an excellent espresso drink. A local gem.
BEST SUNSET VIEW IN CAPITOLA! We came to Mr Toots for the delicious desserts & fresh coffee but ended up staying for the gorgeous sunset view on the private back patio. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. My wife got the carrot cake. It was phenomenal!

Excellent local coffee shop with homemade whipped cream. Black coffee was excellent. Outdoor balcony overlooking the pond that seats 3 small tables. This may accidently be the most memorable place of my trip.
Not my cup of coffee but also my fault for not clarifying my order. ☕️They default to a darker roast on the latte and they are heavy handed on the syrup.It’s a beautiful little shop that is homey and has a lot of character. the baristas are super friendly.Note that I don’t think this shop is “accessible “ it’s up a steep staircase. We came to mr toots around 6:55 today and were automatically greeted very rudely by one of the baristas shouting that they were closing at 7 (Yelp hours say 10pm) and we would be lucky if we got helped and to shout out what we wanted to order to ensure it was captured before they closed. She was extremely rude yelling at everyone and once the clock hit 7 she began kicking people out and said we had to exit unless we wanted to be locked inside to watch her mop. Her actions were not acceptable especially with a crowd inside of the coffee shop, no one should be yelled at and treated this way. If you are closing there are better ways to communicate the message to customers, my sister and I were excited to grab a drink and enjoy the shop but our experience was completely ruined by this barista. I normally don’t write reviews but had to report her actions because it was extremely hostile and rude.
Excellent place, amazing experience, the owner was there and hes nice and gives cool vibes, the coffee and the food is great, come early to catch a table outside with the view and be sure to get the quiche, its a must.
The location is perfect. It’s an eclectic coffee shop and we loved the outdoor balcony looking over the colorful Capitola homes. If you are picky about good espresso, it might not be for you. We liked the atmosphere more than the coffee and coffee cake. The baristas were very friendly and welcoming.

Somewhat hidden above another store, the stairs brings you to what can only be described as one of the best smells that can be found.Not an exaggeration, the coffee is smooth and rich in flavor.. if you find parking in front of the beach... stop by, you will NOT regret coming up stairs.The view from the balcony is very much worth it as well.

Mr Toots is the epitome of what you would expect from a funky eclectic coffee house. Of course great drinks and food but the vibe is 2nd to none. They have the occasional live music or piano artist, and you can’t beat the location overlooking the lagoon in Capitola. Absolutely love it here ❤️

Ive been going to Mr Toots for over 30 years so Im biased but can say that the atmosphere is better than any Starb*cks. Support the local coffee shop. Prices are reasonable and they are speedy.
We have always enjoyed the quaint little spot that is Mr. Toots until just the other day when the girl serving pastries and pie would lick her fingers after cutting a slice, picking up one, scooping out whipped cream, etc. The management needs to teach the staff about food safety, hygiene and cleanliness. I would not recommend eating food from here. Either that or staff serving food need to glove up.
Lovely beach-side cafe with a patio and views of the colorful buildings! A perfect place for a sunset date (: parking is free in the town from Thanksgiving to Christmas which was a nice surprise. I liked the hot spiced cider (served in a mug if youre dining in).

I commence this journey still in my pajamas, much to the shock of my neighbors and the local fauna, but the temptation of Mr Toots coffee is far too grand to be delayed by such trivial matters as dressing appropriately.The staff, as enthusiastic about mornings as a rooster on a caffeine high, greet me like a long lost friend, possibly because theyve seen me more often in my PJs than even my own cat. They are so amiable that Im starting to believe theyve all graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Customer Service.Once I secure my daily dose of sunshine in a cup, I take a seat by the window. The view! If Monet and Van Gogh had a paint-off to capture the beauty of Capitola Village and the shimmering ocean beyond, theyd still struggle to outdo this vista. Its as if every day someone up there hits the Bob Ross happy little trees button.But wait, theres more! The breakfast snacks - oh, the sweet breakfast snacks! I am convinced they have a secret partnership with the Tooth Fairy. Their pastries are so heavenly, its like every bite sings a symphony, and my taste buds have VIP seats. I cant be sure, but I think I heard my muffin hum Beethovens 9th Symphony last Sunday.In short, Mr Toots Coffee House is a magical symphony of caffeine, sweetness, and mesmerizing views, conducted by the friendliest orchestra of baristas. Its not just a coffee house, its an experience. One that helps me forgive my alarm clock for its early morning sins. So heres to you, Mr Toots. Very cozy and charming coffee shop on the second floor with a great view and awesome balcony! This is my favorite place to stop for a cup of coffee when Im driving down the coast. My only complaint is that I wish they didnt have a $5 card minimum.

For over 25 years, Mr. Toots still stands as a very cool little coffee house with a great view of the bay from the balcony. Great place to chill and take a breath.
Mr. Toots is a chill coffeehouse with great coffee, tea, baked goods and cozy feel. Local art work on the walls, books and sometime local musicians will play (or someone will decide to play the upright piano). Views of the ocean off the balcony and you just need to make a trip there when you visit Capitola.

Coffee and danishes are great. Breakfast burritos on the other hand not so much. Arguably the worst burrito I’ve ever had. Microwaved and stuck to the paper tray. Granted they are only $6 bucks but this is California and if theres one thing I’m sure of, is that Californians love burritos. But the staff is always friendly and the views are great so ima keep going back.For real though, do but buy the burritos. I’m half tempted to go into the burrito business just so no one ever has to deal with the disappointment I faced when trying to eat that burrito.
I loved the small town charm of this place! The coffees were great but the coffee cake is where it’s at. Better than the bigger more touristy places, in my opinion.
I had the pleasure of having the most delicious coffee at Mr. Toots this week. I was on a work trip and my colleague and I stopped in to gather our notes before our next stop. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The coffee was delicious (delicious like now that I am back in NC I will be craving it delicious!). I was even able to take a souvenir mug home with me to remind me of my wonderful experience there. What a wonderful cozy spot. Stop in - you will not be disappointed!

Im a long-time customer. Friendly staff, some of which might play chess with you if youd like. Live music, good coffee, and a great view. Plenty of books to read and games to play, too. It does get pretty busy though, especially on summer weekends. Its one of my favorite places.

This is a rather cozy local coffee shop, which features delicious drinks, local artworks, and minimum seating. The overall atmosphere is light and cozy, with great view of the ocean and village. I ordered the Mona Lisa as a double and it was very tasty. The barista working was unfortunately a bit rude and didnt really seem to want to be working. She was extremely slow and wasnt very approachable, and ignored us when we first came to the counter. Overall, its a great place to have a cup of coffee with a friend or two.
Love this little coffee house. Every time Im in the area its a must . Great coffee and sweets . I usually get the vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookie just so I dont feel to bad about myself. I order a Toot an kamen. Taste like real coffee not the watered down stuff from the big chains. Plus the overall vibe is great . Love this place

Toots offers a quality coffee shop experience in the heart of Capitola Village. Due to the pandemic the addition of outdoor seating on the esplanade has made it that much more quaint a place to visit. Dont forget to add a pastry before you walk out the door
Adorable, quaint, unassuming, friendly, delicious, and satisfying. Mr. Toots is an old favorite of mine, from summers spent on their patio or couch with my sister as we sipped chai or lattes and listened to a stranger play the piano or the seagulls playing along the shore. This was the first time I got to take my wife and she loved it. The patio was sunny and warm with a spectacular view of the river, ocean, and famous, brightly painted, Capitola houses. Though there are only two tables for two upstairs, there is a downstairs outdoor patio in the sun as well. I custom ordered an affogato, its not on their menu but the barista was willing to try to make one for me with their vanilla ice cream and she did a wonderful job. It turned out to be a great mid morning snack. My wife got the green rooibos tea, which helped fight back the chilly coastal breeze, and afterwards we spotted that their teas are all from Republic of Tea and they had one she wants to try next time, Tea of Inquiry. There will definitely be a next time. Love this place and hope it can survive the pandemic and return to being a favorite hangout spot over Summers.

Would have been lovely to spend my time here. I came in and first thing confirmed they had working WiFi. I was looking for a place to work as there was construction going on outside my house. The owner said yes as we chatted about it and then I ordered a drink. After I had my drink he informed me he was closing in 40 mins. Didn’t seems very nice as he knew from my first question that I was there to work.

Bagels are from Costco, a banana costs $1.50, but staff is really friendly and its a really cute coffee shop. Didnt try the star attraction (coffee) but the iced tea was nice. Plenty of plugs if you want to stick around and work. Great views, too!

We have been going to this place for a year every chance we get. We absolutely love this place and their staff.On the day of Anniversary we went to Mr. Toots Coffee House and had coffee with the usual scrumptious hot apple pie comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which complements our coffee. The man who tended to us wanted to charge us $1.75 per scoop (we were never charged before) or was never aware of the charge. He then proceeded to say if you want a scoop of whip it will be extra 25 cent. The moral to the story is... as a regular customer he shouldve waived the charges for the scoop of ice cream and or whip, not argue with your customer. It was disappointing, we really loved this place. Not so much anymore with the experience we encountered with this man. He also stated he will fire anyone giving away a scoop of ice cream. Bad business.
This place was okay. The customer service was great and my coffee was ready within 3 minutes of ordering it, they had a huge line. The coffee didnt taste amazing though. I ordered a caramel macchiato, it was a lot more bitter than Starbuck’s. Prices were a little more than Starbucks too and the coffee shop was really small and they only had outdoor seating.
Nice little second-floor place with amazing outdoor seating, good coffee, snackies & chow too. Dog-friendly and great music (at least while I was there). WiFi, and dollar refills for drip coffee. A good joint to wile away an afternoon in relaxed comfort if youve got some laptop work to do.
Excellent place for a quick coffee with a great view or a leisurely visit with friends over a boardgame, or to drink coffee and possibly hear a little live music. Great place to visit after a day at the beach, while you avoid the heavy evening traffic. Try the pie with a coffee. So Good.
My wife and I love this place. We live in San Jose and try to make this a regular adventure. Staff is always amazing and the coffee is on point. The biscottis are bomb! Cookies are to!

This is the kind of coffee shop you come to if you want a peaceful morning that involves a good coffee by the beach. The staff is awesome and I love the atmosphere.My only issue with the place is the lack of outlets in a desirable location.
Major disapppontment! The latte was poor quality (overheated milk, flavourless). My chocolate croissant was heated by microwave so it was soggy instead of crispy. The place was a complete mess at 10am, tables and window sills were dirty, stack of newspapers by the wall was in complete disarray, bathroom sink was really dirty too. Just not an atmosphere you want to hang out in, so definitely worth skipping.
I dont think I could have survived my freshman year of college without hot chai at Mr. Toots. It was always crowded, but Id stake out a table and just relax. My boyfriend (now husband) and I had long talks on the balcony. We took our kids over the years for Italian sodas. After our 25th anniversary, we visited again and its aged, just like we have, but I still love going there and holding hands and having long talks.But the review...The decor is part artsy coffeehouse and part hippie Goodwill. The drinks are good, the mismatched chairs and wobbly tables charming. The view of Venetian Court off the balcony is classic Capitola, and is a great place to be on a September night after the tourists have left but before the UCSC students have come back.

Delicious coffees! I love the Borgia with orange, chocolate and steamed milk. Normally Im not a fan at all of flavoured coffees. But this one is yummie! Lovely small terrace with ocean, beach, lagoon and Capitola Venetian view. Enjoy your coffee in the sun!
They serve 2nd wave coffee and have a view but was really taken aback by the attitude of the brunet female barista (Saturday morning). Within tolerable rudeness to us, but basically watched her mess up the order of the couple in front of us and proceed to snap at them when he politely reminded her 5 minutes later. The guy working was awesome, totally made up for his nasty coworker.

The best coffee and etc. place on the esplanade. A place that locals favor. Beautiful views out of both sides. One is toward the lagoon and ocean, a view enhanced when you choose one of the two tables on the balcony outside (dogs are welcome on the balcony, but not on the inside Except while youre getting what you came in for - your dog cant sit inside with you, for example, while you tap into the house wi-fi to write the great american novel. The on the other side overlooks the historic vacation bungalows along the rider, and the intersection of Stockton and the Esplanade with its diverse passers-by. Its always been quiet when Ive been there. The folk behind the counter are gracious and friendly. You know youre in a good place when they have the sense of humor to include Peanut Butter syrup in their wide selection of the basic vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, - more than ive seen anywhere else. Peanut Butter? A friend says maybe its for chocolate milk?Most visitors/tourists miss Mr. Toots because its upstairs. Theres an unobtrusive sign that gets put out every morning, pointing up the steps. There is a Mr. Toots painted on the lagoon side, right across from the Venetian Hotel, which one could see from the Stockton Bridge. Pity the visitors who are seduced by the storefront large windows of the restaurants down the street. Anyone who misses Mr. Toots is missing out.
Okay, so maybe the coffee is not as good as Peets - heck, nothing can be as good as them - but I LOVE this cafe. Whenever Im in Capitola, I always come here.The laid back vibe combined with the fresh breeze from the sea instantly takes your stress away. Located upstairs, there is indoor seating and limited patio seating. You can sit by the patio door as well for a fantastic ocean view as well as a great photo op.I dont recall any lunch items, I usually just get coffee and a pastry.What am I doing sitting in my living room in suburbia?!? I need to get another dose of the ocean and come back here soon.

I went here for the first time when visiting from Oakland. I give it mixed reviews because of a couple things. The prices are good, my Americano was good. It is a convenient location. I was quite friendly to the staff as I usually am and they were initially friendly back. Unfortunately the staff didn’t ask if I wanted for here or to go and I didn’t specify. When I approached the counter after a few mins looking for my drink because it was quite busy and I couldn’t hear if it was called out, I saw paper cups lined up. I asked the barista if it’s too late to have my order in for here cups and she decided to explain California law surrounding charging sales tax for for here purchases and that they hadn’t charged me the sales tax “for here”. She went on in order to “give me the heads up” about this in the future. It seemed like a defensive response considering I feel the oneous is on them to ask me for here/to go if it’s so strict. I assumed for here was the standard unless I said to go. Poor assumption. Not sure if I’ll go back, we’ll see!
I wasnt impressed by the coffee or the cardboard tasting muffin I had, but the balcony is amazing. The prices are decent for Capitola Village and California in general, $4 for muffin and coffee. The entrance is hidden on the left of Margaritaville and the balcony looks smaller than it really is.

Overpriced lattes that aren’t that good. Would not come back.
Showed up today at 745 to a be back in 5 minutes sign. Barista had to use the restroom I guess. Took more like 10 minutes to get coffee. Then when I poured out 1 oz of coffee I was lectured that the bags cant hold liquid in the garbage. This was after I asked for ROOM. Clueless barista...CLUELESS. Sunday morning 1 barista system is garbage like your concept. CHEERS
Convenient coffee shop located by the Capitola Beach. Ordered Toot n Kamen less sweet and it was good. Baristas could be a lot friendlier though.
Coffee was not very good. Asked for my coffee for here to reduce waste and they still put it in a to go cup. Bagel was dry. But friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

Why is a paper cup the default at Mr Toots? What a pain always have to ask for a normal ceramic cup. :( Otherwise still one of my favorite coffee shops here on the coast.

Classic place bring a sweater late July August because of coastal fog. God I love the fog. Its 100 inland and 68 heres in August.
I come here at least once a week with Scott he knows all the baristas by name and they know him as well cause he comes in every day. this is a great shop with an incredible view and great coffee.

Good coffee. Bad food. Usually understaffed. Midweek they will have one person working and a line. On the weekends they will have three people working and a line. Slow.
Nice ambiance, friendly staff. The coffee may leave a little to be desired, but the locale more than makes up for that fact.

2023-07-16 15:50:12My new favorite coffee place in the Santa Cruz area! They are at the second floor above Margaritaville in the quaint village though they of Capitola. Decent prices, great service, amazing atmosphere. Sit inside on the couch or tables or outside in the small balcony. They have little seating books.I had a large half-caff oatmilk latte and a blueberry muffin which they warmed even without my asking. Delish!

2023-02-18 19:29:25I come here for the calming and picturesque location. Capitola is a sweet town, and Mr Toots has a balcony looking over the beach.Right now, while the whole area is still recovering from the storm surge, parking is a bear. On a busy day like today - Saturday - it’s best to pay $5 for 60minutes in the lot across the street.I love the 1/2 caf oatmilk latte, and a table by the window. The pastries are fabulous and seemingly endless. My favorite is the poppy seed muffin (heated up) and the raspberry coconut dream bar.Please don’t judge me, but my friend is a world class jazz pianist, so anyone else on the piano is annoying. Like today. I prefer the quiet with my coffee. Ok, I’m judging. Maybe you’ll love the piano! So come here and prove me wrong.

2022-08-21 22:55:12Stopped here with my family while walking around capitola. Nice little coffee shop with friendly service and eclectic decorations. I had a mocha and the whipped cream was actual cream and not from a can! That was an awesome treat. We all liked our drinks and would definitely come back. Great view from the balcony as well. Glad we stopped in!
