What a gem - came here for lunch while visiting Fremont. Love the friendly service and the pastrami sandwich was bursting with flavor! Tried it with two different types of bread and both were delicious. I recommend calling an order in or simply wait patiently while your food is being prepped. 5 stars!

Great little place with a warm home feel. No more pork chops but the sausage sandwich with German potato salad were excellent. Good fridge with a good selection of beers. We left with raw sausages for a meal at home with great bread. Good selection of games to play while relaxing with your beer and food.

Fremonts neighborhood German deli. It definitely feels like a place trapped in time.Off the bat, you should know, if youre a walk-in, youre gonna need to wait 15 - 30 min minimum. If you call in your order and she says itll take 15 min, come in 25 min. Thats just how it is.Essentially, the entire experience is like walking into your German friends omas kitchen, so there is no rush at all here. If you come with the expectation of excellent service and acknowledgement, then boy are you going to be disappointed.As for the sandwiches, Id recommend either the Reuben on dark rye (you can only choose the bread when its a full sandwich, otherwise it defaults to whatever she has on hand thats prepped for half sandwiches) or the currywurst with a bread roll with cheese and butter.As for beer, youve got a small, but good set of choices. Id recommend the Korbinian doppelboch if you have a taste for full-bodied beer with earthy undertones.

Absolutely delicious, the owner was very nice and gave us recommendations on how we should order the sandwiches which may sound weird but she was completely correct. My friend and I split a Reuben and german brat bun and both of them were some of the finest sandwiches Ive ever had. Expect to spend at least $10 per sandwich but you are getting your moneys worth.

What a unique gem in the East Bay! I dont know anywhere else you can get authentic German cuisine this good, in the area. So come for the bratwurst, come for the freshly sliced deli meats, come for the potato salad and definitely try the kraut! I prefer the sandwiches here; my favorites are The Ultimate and their pastrami on dutch crunch, with all the fixings. Some of the sandwich options you can order hot. The breads and meats are all sliced and prepped at the time you order, so be prepared to wait 5 minutes (and thats if theres no line). They also have a $1 charge for credit cards. There is seating outside, but the decor inside is so cute too!

What a FIND! Just ate here the other day and was blown away. The place is part deli, part restaurant, but you feel like you’ve been transported to a grandmother’s house in Germany.So much to see, games at the tables and the food was cooked fresh for us. The owner even let us stay past closing time and was kind enough to offer a Kinder egg for our 9yo son.We’ll definitely be back again.

The food tastes fabulous, the portions are large and the menu can be personalized to your preference. Service, slow during busy times, sit down, relax, inside or out front under the umbrella, have a beer imported from Germany. Shop for imported food items. rita will make you comfortable. Sometimes a place can really turn your day around. This is that place. Rita is a gem, the sandwiches are extremely tasty, the beer is exceptional, and the dogs are cozy, comfortable. Other reviews may say that the service is slow, but I believe the pace helps slow my own self down - which is valuable.

I moved to Newark 3 days ago and was happy to find a European place. I am from the Netherlands and I couldn’t tell you how much I felt at home right away. The sandwiches were great, fresh, and exactly like home. But the best part was Rita, who instantly reminded me of a combination of my mom and her best friend, “gezellig”. We bonded over the fact that there’s no good schnitzel in America, lol. Good selection of snacks as well, will be back (every day?).

Awesome German deli with a small market attached. I went with a group and wasnt really in the mood for sandwiches, but the sandwich was so good, it actually hit the spot! The market is full of imported German treats, food, and beer. The outdoor seating is also nice for sunny days :) the owner is from Hamburg and is very nice.

Ive been here a few times. Always had a nice conversation with the owner and learning about the different German foods she sells. There is development on the site of the old original Nations Hamburger site and the driveway from Sprouts to this lot which also houses Bills Cafe was closed so you have to enter from the street. I was afraid they would evict these restauranters in this strip, but very happy this deli is still thriving.

In this day and age, you should really be wearing gloves… I ordered various deli meats, and each slice of meat was touched by her bare hands. The previous customer even paid cash, and no hand washing station in sight. It’s not really sanitary. I wouldn’t mind if I purchased uncooked meats that I intend to cook at home, but deli meats… come on.

Very rude lady working there. With no customers in the place, she told me should couldnt take any orders for over an hour and we should leave. She was just too busy. Hmmmm. Not very nice about it either. Maybe close your door, turn off the lights. A plus....the Ramen spot next door is fantastic! Would not have found it if this lady wasnt mad at life and turned us away.

Sadly, we werent acknowledged at all during the 15 mins we happily waited to be served. It didnt seem like the lady working was having a good day. We were really looking forward to enjoying a sandwich there. Seemed like the place might have been for sale and maybe the old gusto they used to be known for...is gone. I hope that ladys day got better and other patrons were able to enjoy a sandwich that day. Short version:Went in for a local lunch, found a new favorite.For those that want there meat and potatoes first, prices are low to moderate in my opinion, portions were generous, but not so crazy everyone should plan on leftovers, a friend who was stationed in Germany (USAF) stated this was a picture perfect example of what he found in german countryside festivals and street food.For the long version:Their location is a bit tucked in and hidden in the back of a larger center. But once you get there its a very nice building, well maintained. I cant verify german architecture, but it gave a very cottage feel. The woman working the counter was a delightfully sharp witted and fun. She saw us in the window and greeted us at the door. She was kind enough to teach us about some of the German imported candies and other treats they stock. We tried one they had at the counter for a quarter. It reminded me of a chocolate covered marshmallow fluff candy. Great selection of imported German beers. When we got our food I had a hot pastrami and it was incredible. Actual thick sliced, brined to a deeply colored pastrami, strong smell and great flavor. My roommate had a brat and while we ate he remarked he was really surprised to see a place this authentic even exists, let alone is good and affordable. He lived around in Germany for 3 years and says although hes no local, as near as he can tell it felt like a shop right out of the German countryside, full of fun people, full of energy, wit, and all off the tasty treats you can think of, or at least a lot more than I knew about. 10/10 would recommend just for the banter with the lady at the front counter. Great place to get some German food the bad thing is one lady only doing all the work if busy you have to wait. And prices are a bit up there also put prices on the product you have to wait just to ask how much something costs. One of the places my momma loved going Im so glad I took her before she passed away.

My dad was drafted to serve in the military during the last few years of the Vietnam war. He was one of the lucky few who drew a card that sent him to Germany rather than the jungles of southeast Asia.What I got from this legacy was a handed down love for German culture, and an appreciation in particular for German food and beer. Nowhere in the Bay Area can you get a tastier glimpse of both than at Ritas German Deli, AKA Munchner Haus.I dont know for a fact, but suspect the lovely blonde woman we meet behind the counter is Frau Rita herself. She has been making the most amazing sandwiches and serving my family the best German treats since we moved to Fremont in 1989.My only complaint is that she no longer serves the pork roast sandwich. It was literally bliss served hot on a bun. But the remaining fare is all delicious.Take your time here. Dine in or grab a beer as you wait for your order to prep. Transport yourself for a minute to the German countryside. Life is good.Thank you, Munchner Haus!

Really like this place--its definitely my speed! Its smaller than Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, but more authentic somehow--the staff here all speak German. The food we had was pretty good, and theyve got a good selection of beer. Really enjoyed just sitting outside sipping a beer, despite the view of the parking lot :)

The best time of year to get great German Christmas goodies! I just loaded up on Stollen, Pfeffernüsse, Lebkuchen, Mozart-Kugeln and beer. I will need to go back soon for refills. They also have a great selection of chocolate and beers that you cant find in many places. If youre not sure what to get, ask Rita (the owner) for advice. Shes never steered me wrong over the decades Ive been going there.

I went there to see if I could find some traditional Xmas cookies, but the woman had an attitude since the minute she laid eyes on me. Yes, I know I dont look German by my outfit and my face mask on, but that woman had an attitude that was downright disrespectful and when I asked her about Xmas cookies she was really sarcastic and condescending.I was with my 4 yr old and 11 yr old daughters. On the way out, my 11 yr old asked me why the woman was so rude to us.Terrible attitude and the place is tiny and stuffy with very limited items.

The place in Fremont to pick up your German import specialties and enjoy German food. The only missing item is fresh baked pretzels.Just one woman was on duty at the time with a constant stream of customers. Its amazing that she can handle it, and I overheard her say to someone that she was in pain.I had a chicken schnitzel sandwich. This was breaded chicken on a dutch crust roll. As always, you wait a long time for what ever you order, but its worth the wait. I also ordered a Coke, and received a glass of ice. You have to get your own drink out of the refrigerator.There are a few tables inside and the patio outside to dine. Inside there are a lot of books scattered all over to read, and the paintings on the wall have price tags on them.

These types of places are so hard to find anymore. A wonderful escape from the busy World. This place is a culinary delight for fans of old school and old world dining. It is quite popular and busy at lunch time, so I would recommend coming a little early or after the prime lunch rush. No Togos or Subway breadwiches here. Shes slicing the meet and fresh produce for you and stacking it thick. Soups and salad available. Various snack sides and beverages are also available. Friendly non service dogs are welcome at the tables out front. They get a special dog safe treat. Alcohol is available. Cash or credit. Dine-in or to-go.

Its nice to see that Munchner Haus is still around, and at the same location to boot! My Father would take my siblings and me here every once in a while where we would each order our favorite sandwiches and potato salad. He would then buy his favorite jar of German hot mustard which we would all enjoy for the next couple of weeks as we would use it on our home made sandwiches. I am an indian, love traveling and visit all the local shops to savor the food flavors.. this place is quiet, good, superbly decorated and i felt welcome.. i have seen reviews describing the owner as cold, i do not think so, she was not cold to me, she was friendly, loved talking about soccer and brought me my dish i had ordered. coming to Food.. One Saturday afternoon, I dropped by to check out the only German Restaurant within a 30 mile radius of where I live. I’ve seen it advertised for quite some time but this was my first visit to Munchner Haus. A simple, quaint spot tucked away inside a strip mall that most probably bypass on their way to and from work. Upon entrance, I was greeted by Oma (Grandma in German) the owner and sole server. It’s a typical deli-style restaurant with the menu on the wall behind the displays. I couldn’t make up my mind what to order so I went with what Oma had on her plate – she was in the middle of her lunch break. I was served a wonderful plate with a smoked brat, brown spicy mustard, potato salad, sauerkraut, and accompanied with a dunkle weiss. I wasn’t disappointed. The place it very clean. There are only six tables in the restaurant area. The friendly welcome was more than enough to bring me back to Oma’s place. Check it out. Highly recommend it.

I attempted twice to check this place out. First time it was closed during its open hours. Arrived on a Sunday at 12pm noon to find it closed (ought to be open 11am-4pm). Met a lady opening the shop 5 mins later. On asking whether the restaurant would open now, we (I, German, with SO, of Asian background) were met with silence, that is, simply ignored. This is not how you treat potential customers.
