This place serves authentic Korean food - I am originally from Korea. Not salty and not greasy at all. I recommend pork feet - they serve such a huge portion and it tastes great!
This hidden gem cant be spotted from the streets. You see a grocery store and hair salon. Then in the back of a tiny parking lot is the restaurant. They have a steady stream of customers coming for lunch.Service is sparse. We were not offered tea or water. The lunch portions for the hot plate dishes are on the small side. Served with rice and banchan ( Korean side dishes). We were asked if we needed any more side dishes but we had already finished eating our food.
Authentic Korean restaurant tucked away off the main road in Marina. It has the standard fare, we chose the seafood pancake and beef bulgogi and not disappointed. Banchan was somewhat limited, maybe six dishes. Food came quickly but service was a tad slow. Overall, a very nice find in the small town of Marina. On par with Ktown or other Bay Area places.
One of the best Korean restaurants weve been to. Weve tried Korean restaurants all over the Bay Area. We enjoy little restaurants like this. They always seem to take pride in their cooking. Were from Vallejo. When we vist Monterey Area. We make it a point to vist this restaurant!

This place is so good it’s ridiculous. I got the jaepche and bulgogi and bip bim bap and they couldn’t have tasted better and more authentic. The prices are high. It’s almost $100 for those three dishes and that’s for take out. It’s a rare splurge but so very good. The service is wonderful and I can’t wait to try more dishes off the menu.
The New Korea Restaurant is located in a residential neighbourhood in the city of Marina. The restaurant has a small parking lot and the restaurant itself is pretty small. The customer service is friendly but waiting for the food to arrive is somewhat slow. The food is decent but the portions are not generous for the hefty prices being charged. Another thing that is not cool is that they automatically charge for gratuity. I didn’t notice that until I saw it on my credit card statement. The waitress added a fairly large tip for herself that was more than 20% . She added nearly 30% in gratuity for herself. As for returning here again that is highly unlikely. The prices just don’t justify the subpar quality of the food and lacklustre customer experience.

Always enjoyed going here for korean food. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is not usually very busy. The banchan selection is good. I enjoyed the bibimbap. Last time I came here for the korean bbq, the portions felt perfect for two people and the meat tasted very good. It may not be on the same level as some Korean restaurants in LA, but considering the local area I recommend it.
Very good chicken bulgogi. Wife loved the soup as its hard to come by in Northern Cali let alone decent quality. Good portions, I got full and Im a big guy. Sides are average and a bit bland. Food came very fast and service was excellent!

Small restaurant, worth the visit for some good korean food
Had dinner here with my family and had the worst experience ever. Serving lady was extremely rude towards us. We asked for extra bowls for the kids and she frown and frustratedly bang the bowls when she sent them over. I had thought that the server probably didn’t understand what I was asking hence the bad attitude but how can you work in a restaurant here in US without having basic knowledge of English?!We then placed our orders and I ordered a bowl of kimchi soup. In the restaurant menu it indicates the soup serves the soup with kimchi pork and tofu. But to my astonishment the fish came only with kimchi and tofu. When I asked the server why isn’t there meat she shouted at us and said it was all inside the bowl but we dug it up and found nothing. She furiously took the bowl away from us without apologising and insisting there was meat and took it to the kitchen. After about 10mins into my meal she came back with that bowl of kimchi soup this time with a thin slice of pork as thin as a strand of hair and insisted loudly there was meat.Firstly, the price of the dish was $18 how dare the server showed me 1 slice of meat that’s not even 1cm thick?Secondly, server was so rude and shouted at us when we are paying customersThirdly, the dish isn’t what the menu promised which was hell of a disappointmentPrices of the restaurant was sky high but service rendered was rock bottom.Highly not recommended

Really good authentic Korean food. The prices seem high at first but they bring out banchan (appetizers) for free. We ordered the Korean pancake and BBQ pork and it was a lot of food for 2 people. The food itself was delicious too. Would go there again.
We were in Monterrey for a weekend and I was craving some homemade Korean food. Granted, I am not even Korean, but I grew up in LA with a bunch of Koreans that took me to Korea town every weekend. Let’s just say, I am experienced with some good tofu soup, and man, I was blown away by the amazing, sweet, service of the staff at New Korea. Their food, bigger portions for the same price you’ll be paying in LA. Servers are very nice and kind. The restaurant, though in the middle of nowhere, is worth the drive. If you’re 30 minutes away, and want some food that will make you go home warm and happy, New Korea is the spot. When I come to Monterrey again, I will for sure 100% come back for the delicious tofu soup and seafood pancake.

I was first introduced to Korean cuisine in the 80s living in NYC, and it became my favorite food, so I visited restaurants in Korea town on 32nd and around that area as well as other points around the city for decades. With stints in the Bay Area and now the Pacific Northwest, the options have not been as plentiful, but a yearly work trip to Pacific Grove has come to include a requisite evening at New Korea Restaurant, which I’m here to say is my favorite Korean restaurant of all that I’ve tried. The proprietress is gracious and obviously a phenomenal chef, bringing nuance to every item ordered from the packed menu that leaves one wondering how so much goodness can fit into such a small kitchen. Details such as using traditional rice, kimchi that hits all the right notes, or the bountiful banchan that precede your order keeps me thinking of this gem hidden in a residential part of a quiet seaside town when I’m hundreds or thousands of miles away.
The food was really good. The quantities were less than a sub par Korean restaurant (quality over quantity, yay!). Good selection of banchan.We found it after a day in Monterey and were looking for a place to eat on our way home.We arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday evening of a 3 days weekend, and we had one of the last available tables. When we left at 7:30, 4 groups of people were waiting outside. Most were speaking korean (for me, it is a good sign for an authentic restaurant). Probably because of people waiting to be seated, as soon as we paid, the waitresses started to wipe down the table while we were still grabbing our things. I felt a little bit rushed but I understand. Even with that, I give 5 stars.
This review is from my Korean MIL “You got a bad attitude!”.I don’t care how good the food is, when the owner and service staff “look like they just at a lemon” (her way of saying “b@%#* face”) you may quickly lose your appetite.BTW, the food isn’t that great. Super-sour kimchi-(means it’s old) and bulgogi that I know had been reheated.

They share a parking lot with the market. They have a restroom that is accessible on the outside around the corner. Yelp said theres outdoor dining but there wasnt when we went on 7/25/21.

This place is far and above the most culturally Korean restaurant Ive had the pleasure of eating at on the West coast. This can be a good or bad thing depending on the group because if youre looking for Americanized Korean food, I am not sure if this is the place for you. However, if you want authentic, both ambiance and the tastes, then this is the ideal restaurant that you need to check out. Right from the side dishes it brought me back to Korea. Ive been multiple times in the past few years and this restaurant, found in central CA of all places, really hits the nail on the head in culturally conveying Korea.The staff was quite friendly and will guide guests in eating the food properly and to the guests liking. I had the seollangtang which is always a favorite of mine. Its noodles in beef broth with beef sides. Its plain, but you are given the salt to add and mix to your liking. Once you got that sweet spot, it is one of the greatest dishes. I recommend it here.Overall, the experience was something Ive never had in the US, even though Ive been to Flushing many times and have tried numerous places there. This place has captured the essence of Korea and created this great hole-in-the-wall restaurant that everyone should try.

Koreans are known for their warmth and hospitality. So it was a rude shock to the system to come across such awful awful manners. Arriving at 8.02pm after a 2 hour journey, we entered the restaurant which clearly posted that they close at 9pm. A family of 5 ahead of us had just been seated. When our party of 2 asked to be seated - we were told sorry we cant have you dining in after 8pm. Somewhat shocked since it was literally 2 mins after 8pm when we entered, we politely asked since its only a few mins after 8 and we had just driven 2 hours to get here if they could accommodate. In face we said we would be happy to eat quickly since we knew they closed at 9pm - the man at the cashier countered yelled absolutely not as we would take 2 hours to eat. If you want to eat you can get take out At this point, I told my partner that we should leave - Im sorry I dont believe in finding bad business and least of all people who cant display common courtesy. We then drove to another Korean restaurant in Monterey by this time it was 845pm. Almost as if god was trying to make a point about good human beings - the owner of this restaurant, Wonju, was the completely opposite of New Korean. She welcomed us in even though they close at 930pm and when she found out my partner was Korean, we suddenly felt like we were in relatives kitchen. The food was served with love, and she came over to talk to us and we had the warmest conversation about family and food. Both my partner and I were just blown away by the owners hospitality confirming what I said about Korean restaurants and their warm hospitality. We also said that we both have had the privilege of eating all over the world - yet weve never seen anything close to the likes of how poorly we were treated at New Korea restaurant. Dont be fooled by the Yelp ratings - just sort it by lowest rating and youll see that consistently this restraint and its staff have no regard for basic courtesy. Like I said if someone wants to treat you poorly - why would you want to fund that? Find a real restaurant and local business owner who welcomes you and truly wants your business.
A cozy little Korean restaurant with fantastic food! My favorite thing to get is always the hot stone bibimbap and the seafood pancake, but I recommend coming with friends so you can order a number of dishes and share! Ive always had good service when I go!
The food is very good, but the portions are not extremely plentiful though. The atmosphere is very comfortable and quaint. However, they do not do split checks, so I was stuck with a 95 dollar bill on my credit card and am still awaiting repayment from some of the people I went with, so be mindful of that.
The best Korean restaurant in the Monterey Peninsula. A true hidden gem that you all must find. A delight of tastey goodness that will have your taste buds dancing in your mouth. The owners son Vincent is a server that really hits home what a small family owned business is really all about. Love is in the air there... you can taste it in the food!!
This spot is our go to place for authentic Korean food. Its a small hidden gem in marina. We always get the Bulgogi and Japjhae noodles. Its a family fan business and They do get busy so Service can be a little slow sometimes. But all in all I would recommend this place for a good Korean meal.
I love it here, every chance I get I come here. I was told its just a hole in the wall but God their food is amazing. I just cant get enough! Its pretty small, if I remember correctly there are atleast 6 tables, some are big and some are small. The service is pretty good overall and there are very few people that go there so it is never really crowded since the place is so small.
Had lunch here last Sunday. The Bibimbap was really great, super fresh and the perfect portion size. The lunch specials are offered on the weekend, which made it really affordable, 20 bucks for 2 people. The banchan was tasty, and service was quick. This will be my new pit stop in the area.
Delicious meals. Their Kalbi ribs for dinner is outstanding, so tender you dont need a knife just your teeth. Although that wasnt the case for the lunch portion it was still just as satisfying.

The food was ordinary.But the staff were extremely rude. I wouldnt be surprised if I accidentally see them spit in the dishes. They missed our order but reacted as if it was our fault. You can expect rolling eyeballs if you go in a group. Its not just poor service, they just have disgusting manners. I highly doubt the restaurant is only a cover of money laundry.
The service was very responsive when ever there was an empty bowl or cup it was dealt with quicky. The food priced was good for the portion size. I had the chicken teriyaki, might have to try something new next time. Overall I will definitely be there again.
Hidden place in the back of a Parking lot. No glitz no glamer just a basic neon sign amd a classic screen door to open.Walking in Looked traditional asian muted colors. Was greeted with a Smile by a nice young gentleman. Service was polite and let ua took our time.Menu was pricey and lacked drink options. Aside from that the prices matched the tasted. The short ribs were Amazing and well seasoned and cooked. Even jad the nice grilles marks on them. Glass noddles tasted fine but the beef that came with them were great.Had about 8 sides in small portion bowls. Of a variety of kinds. Some were a bit too salty othera were great, 5 out of 8 of the sides i enjoyed.Great experiemce, Food filled me up just right..and excellentt customer service.

Really good little korean place. Out of the way, right in the middle of a neighborhood though so just keep your eyes peeled when you go. Food is great, the service is pretty good too. Theres a waiter or two that are younger and can have a little bit of a careless attitude, but nothing to ruin the meal. Try it!
Lunch special every opened day!! Not so Americanized, authentic Korean food. Seasoned just right. It seems like number of side dishes depends on what you order. Side dishes are refilled free of charge like a Korean restaurant should be. I get headache with MSG but I never had one here with any dishes Ive tried so far. Food was nice but the waitresss serving was terrible. She never asked us anything u want even though we were starring her and said excuse me when she were passing by us. And her expression on her face made us feel uncomfortable. Ive never seen before the services like that in any restaurant. She should not have done like that.
Great place. Were just driving through and wanted to have something we dont have in our home town. One dinner plate is enough for two people to share! We ended up ordering too much. We had the bulgogi and chicken teriyaki.
So this place is pretty awesome. We go almost every week, and now the staff knows us. The food is always really good, and the staff takes care of you. Unlimited refills on sides. Everyone should at least try a number 38.

This is always a go to place for my husband and I. The Bulgolgi is our favorite. I tried the Galbi for the first time and what a delicious choice. I suggest to try the Mandu dumplings.

Despite the abundance of Korean places on the peninsula, none of them seem to be first, or even second, rate. This place comes as close as any.My wife and I went there for lunch and chose from their lunch specials. She had the kalbi and I had the Soon Doo Bu. Both dishes were seasoned well, but the Soon Doo Bu didnt come boiling in its bowl so that I could boil an egg in it. In fact, no egg came with the meal.We had only five Pan Chan (side dishes) to choose from, which isnt very much. On the way out, I noticed that customers who had Korean people in their party had been given more, including Oi (cucumber) Kimchee. Since this is one of my pet peeves, I gave the low rating on service.If I am back in the neighborhood, I might stop in again, but I will not seek the place out.

2023-10-22 00:51:33Stopped here for the first time today after our daughter told us about the place. Enjoyed our meal very much. The portions were quite large. Good flavor and the staff was very helpful. Will look forward to coming back soon.

2023-09-03 21:32:42New Korea restaurant is a hidden gem! I highly recommend trying their family-size pork feet; its incredibly authentic and bursting with flavor, a rare find elsewhere. The seafood pancake is a must-try, perfectly cooked and bursting with delicious flavors. Their beef soup is also fantastic. Five stars for an exceptional dining experience!

Weve been to dozens of places across California,but the moment we both took a bite of our dishes, we agreed that this place was the top of the list, and it wasnt even a competition. Everything was cooked perfectly and even the kimchi had such an amazing unifrom flavor. We had the spicy pork and the kimchi tofu stew. Both were perfect! Also, the serving staff was so kind and kept checking on us to make sure we were happy. Best place!!!

Back to family runned new Korean restaurant after 9 years since we left Monterey in 2013 and the food still taste great, including the army stew and the bulgogi. Price is also very value for money at $98 for four pax. Even though we arrived pretty late close to closing time as we drive up to Laguna beach near San Diego, the owner didnt rush us at all throughout the dinner. We appreciated that.

Service is so-so, if customer order something and the wrong item came out, they try to say you pointed at the item in the picture from the menu even though I said another item specifically when ordering. A lot of back and forth with the dish and restaurant finally did the right thing and corrected the item without saying anything.

2019-02-20 06:56:28The place is kinda remote and off the street, there is parking inside when you enter a short driveway.The food is at par to other Korean restaurant ice been to. Appetizers are served after you order your meal. You should get the beef if you want the bulgogi rather than the pork.They only have 10 tables so call ahead if you have a large group.It was worth the visit.

2023-09-19 04:32:56The food was great. I did order their ramen. I noticed that all it has was the noodles, broth, and some vegetables. And I thought to myself, a ramen usually has a boiled egg and some type of meat or Naruto, but this didnt have any protein. It wasnt worth the money. It tasted good, Im not going to deny that, but I felt robbed.Also, it felt so crowded that the restaurant became full.

2023-08-31 05:44:09After my third time eating here I can honestly say, this is one of the best places in Monterey County!Every item I’ve tried here has been great. The only negative I can think of is, sometimes the food is a little slow to arrive but it’s worth it.
