Redding, CA. I’m from Hawaii and Niu satisfied our Kalua Pork Plate Lunch cravings to a T. Ono everything. Slightly better price compared to other Hawaiian grills in Cali. Good service. Clean space with Hawaiian-style decor. Music wasn’t Hawaiian, though, it was maybe Vietnamese or Thai? I asked the guy at the register and he said he didn’t know. It had a steady stream of customers right up to closing. Highly recommend.

Decently priced, they had a mini and regular sized portions, got the chicken Katsu very crispy came with rice and macaroni salad along with curry sauce, very generous with sauce gave us 4 others. Spam musabi was excellent!

So delicious! I recommend the spam Musubi. The katsu chicken is awesome and the Kalua pork is smokey and yummy. The customer service is quite nice. They are friendly! And its not so spendy! Go if you can.

I ordered a combo plate. They gave me 9 lb of chicken, 4 lb of short ribs and five pieces of dried beef and I went back and asked them. Is this a normal for the beef to be only five pieces and the guy looked at me and said well they give you one order of each I said. So if I ordered a plate of beef I would only get five pieces and she responded. Yeah thats how we serve it here. So if you ever want to get ripped off and get taken advantage of go to this joint. This place has nothing on L&L that theyre trying to emulate Hawaiian barbecue this place sucks. Dont waste your time or your money cuz youre going to be disappointed

Wanted to sub pineapple fried rice on a mini. First of all, it’s very confusing how they do it, for some reason you have to give up a side to sub rice on a mini. The girl at the register rung it up wrong and charged me to add pineapple instead of sub pineapple fried rice. Then approximately 5 minutes later as I was waiting for my food said I owed $1.88 more. If you enter my order wrong, you need to just eat the cost, not try to charge me an additional $1.88. That’s a joke. Punishing the customer for your mistake. How about train your employees properly and hire people that know how to enter things correctly on the computer. I mean how cheap can you be as a business. Not to mention I tipped more than the $1.88 on the order. My order total was around $35. You just lost a customer forever over $1.88.

I always stop there. Great food, large portions. Rice is really good and Im picky.The only improvement would be the gravy, and katsu sauce. A bit watery. Thats the only bad. But the food more than makes up for it. All the dishes are tasty.

Recommended to us by the Falls Brewing Taphouse two doors down and we were not disappointed! DELICIOUS food - highly recommend the Hawaiian bbq mix. All of the bbq had great flavor. We also ordered the pineapple fried rice as a side and that was amazing as well! We were in the Falls Brewing Taphouse and ordered food from here, and they were kind enough to deliver to us in the taphouse!

Good food. I ordered a House fried rice and it was covered in BBQ chicken, BBQ beef and shrimp. The meat to rice and veggie ratio was very gracious, tons of meat. The flavor was good, rice was fluffy and well cooked. Meat fell apart in your mouth, tender and juicy. For my liking it could have used a few more veggies.

Staff was so friendly. Food was drool worthy. My go to is the spam musubi and the bbq or kalua pork plate. They are great with substitutions too; I don’t eat gluten so I get double vegetables instead of the macaroni salad. My only qualm is even if I eat there the food comes in to go packaging. I’d love to eat off a plate.

Great food with friendly service.BBQ Platers are top-notch, and the macaroni salad is some of the best Ive had. Spam musubi is expensive compared to some other places Ive been, but its good quality and has a great taste so its worth it.Rice bowl is a great value and very filling.Definitely going to be a place I go regularly.

Went there around 5pm, busy time, wait time was about 10-15 minutes for the food to be done, which was not bad for the time of day. Fairly priced, food was delicious. Tried three different food items, each one was delicious. Friendly staff, happy staff, which means strong business, outstanding customer service. Highly recommended to everyone hungry for something other than burgers or burritos.

Disappointed. Went in to get some rice and asked kid working upfront about type of oil they use as my wife and son have different nut allergies. “Uhhh soy I think” and didn’t bother to ask any of the three chefs working 4 feet away from him. After explaining allergy, he still didn’t ask. At that point we decided to just leave. This happened 3/14/23 around 1ish so I understand they had a lunch rush but the complete lack of customer awareness was baffling because this kid looked like a 30 year old. Sucks because we see all the good reviews about the place we just don’t know if it’s safe for my wife and son to eat at. Maybe will try again in a year or two.

This is a little gem nestled in the back of a big shopping center. I wasnt very hungry but wanted enough food for dinner as well as lunch because we were just traveling through town. I got the regular sized Katsu Chicken and hubs got the regular sized mixed chicken grill. Boy did they deliver. We are both large people so we ate our fill and when we were finished we still had enough food for dinner and then some. And the food was very good. I could see this becoming a favorite stop each time we travel through to Sacramento.

Ive ordered the curry beef and chicken and its a JOKE. ITS supposed to be a stew. I know. Its really good and portions are huge. My only gripe is that they have this strange bone to pick with people wanting enough sauce for the katsu. They had this passive aggressive sign up saying see if you like the food before putting sauce on it look its just fried chicken isnt it? The breading soaks up like an entire cup of sauce per couple of strips so if you want enough sauce on your plate you gotta ask for like 4 cups. Well now they charge for anything over 2 cups and they downsized the cups to half their size lol. And I dont mind paying for sauce but now Ill have to answer yeah thats fine every time I want extra sauce and feel judged lol

Friendly guy who explained us the menu as it was our first time trying Hawaiian barbacue. The portions sizes are generous and the food delicious.We got the chicken and seafood bowl. The chicken bbq was excellent and the fried fish and shrimp was very well done too. We enjoyed our lunch here immensely!They are fast and its a nice place for a quick but wholesome bite.

I bought two plates from this restaurant, which I was excited because I heard they have great food. However, I got home and split the plates with my daughter. She found a hair in the food. I immediately called the restaurant and spoke with an employee. She said I need to bring the food back. I explained to hear that we were in the middle of eating it. She said since we don’t have all the food there is nothing they can do. I then asked to speak to the manager and she said he was too busy to talk to me and instead told the girl to tell me it’s against their policy. I asked what the policy is and she said “ sorry, I don’t know” I asked her to ask the manager and she said “ he is too busy”At this point I’m think this is not right and nasty. I don’t mind buying another plate but not sure if I would get another hair in my food. Makes me think how dirty it is behind the counter where they cook the food. It’s clear they don’t care about the already paid customers. Their only concern is helping the customer that are at the restaurant and moving to the next. I definitely don’t recommend this ungrateful restaurant.

I absolutely love this place. Second time I’ve eaten there and I’m still baffled by this place. It’s a small place, but the service was great and the food makes your mouth water. The guy who took our order was more kind than most interactions I’ve had ordering anywhere. They made sure they got everything right and even offered us a cup of ice water while we wait, which is pretty rare anywhere. I wanted to know how the Kalua pork was cooked and not only did they tel me, they gave me some to try! So many people were coming in to order and pick up online orders and not only did we wait maybe, 10-15 minutes (which isn’t bad at all), they made sure they got all the sauces and the food was hot. I’m in love with this place, totally worth a try!

I’ve eaten a lot of Hawaiian plate lunches in my time and Niu Hawaiian BBQ doesn’t disappoint. The chicken Katsu curry was excellent. Mac salad was cooked just right. Everything was wonderful and the staff was hella friendly. I don’t pass through Redding often but we’ll be back.

Everything was great until they started being stingy with their sauces. I dont know another store that offers Katsu sauce this authentic, a huge reason I crave coming back! They first made the cup sizes smaller, and then limit you at 2 regardless of your size of meal. (Mini, reg, and bowl, all the same amount of sauce) Depending on the meal, one of those cups barely covers all of the rice imo.. maybe Im just a sauce fiend. Would like to see either bigger cups again or at LEAST one more sauce for a bigger meal. Heck 2 is hardly enough for a chicken rice bowl. I always want more by the end of the bowl..

Was impressed with the quantity of food, the quality was good, but could use improvement- for me. I loved the beef, very tender and flavorful. The pork and chicken was good, but to me, it needed something... either a glaze or extra seasoning would have made my taste buds happier. I am overall pleased with the overall service and cleanliness of this restaurant. The selection was good- try the house fried rice! The decor is a nice selection of Chinese Hawaiian modern... could use some help in that department as well.

One of my go to places for lunch! The service is fast and friendly, you get plenty of delicious food for your money and the bathrooms are always clean. The only reason i took off a star is because the macaroni salad that comes with most orders is a bit bland, and the veggies are usually too soft for my liking. I swap them out for extra rice with my BBQ plate!

I love Hawaiian food so decided to give this place a shot and VERY glad I did. I ordered the Hawaiian Mix and the meats were fantastic, very tasty and no sauce required. The rice was cooked perfectly and Mac salad was delicious! Gal at the front taking orders was very friendly as well as the other staff.I will be eating here frequently for sure as I love me some nicely done meats and look forward to trying out all their items. The establishment is kept clean and orders are received in a timely manner. I dont have any cons but I guess the seating is a tad limited, so a bigger place would be nice with gobs of Hawaiian flare.

This place just kicks so much @$$! Employees are great, food is amazing. Dining room is a bit small but the food travels well. My wife and I live an hour east of Redding, and no trip down is complete without a visit to Niu. We will often order three meals: one to eat in house, and another to split later. My personal favorite is the Hawaiian BBQ mix, but each item Ive tried is fantastic. Price to portion is hard to beat as well. Give them a try!

Lived in Las Vegas, the Bay Area, and in the California Valley and this place is on par with Hawaiian food from any or those places.I had the Chicken Katsu, my favorite. The meal was hot, chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Rice was perfectly cooked sticky rice. And the Macaroni salad was the perfect compliment to the dish. Also, the Katsu sauce was sweet and well seasoned. The other sauces were good, but I only use the Katsu for this dish.While they had a constant flow of customers (5:15/5:30pm) the food only took about 15 minutes to get to us after we ordered.First time going here. Lived out here before some years ago and didn’t know this place was here. Great place, highly recommend it. Will have to add pictures next time I visit.

Ok so I have been coming to this restaurant since they opened. I can only say great things about it. From the first time my wife and I tried it, we have been hooked. Now, I have honestly only gotten the same thing every time I go there, but but almost every time has been constantly the same. I cant say enough good things about this restaurant. They know be by name, and always remember my order. In this day and age, that kind of customer service has just vanished. But all in all this has been the best place in Redding to get a great hot meal, that is satisfying, tasty, and healthy. My rating is a solid 5 stars, and hope the continue to provide excellent service and food, for years to come.

Food is fantastic! We were at the Fall River Brewery next door when the bartender recommended Niu because they deliver to the brewery. My partner and I ordered minis of the Kilua Pork and Short Ribs, respectively. We both thought both options were delicious, but the Short Ribs were the best! Both meals came with delicious mac salad, perfect rice, and steamed broccoli and cabbage. Within 15 minutes, both plates were completely empty. Three sauces were served with the meal to put on rice or any other part of the meal. Thanks guys! After that bike ride I was hungry!

I’m a veteran and I rarely ask, but hey sometimes you throw it out there and it feels good to get one. The employee taking his order, who was clearly training a new employee, responded in a super rude, and nasty tone of voice.“No we don’t do police officer discounts, because that would be unethical and you should know that.”Pump the breaks! A no would have been fine, you don’t need to be a jerk. The officer was gracious about it and waited for his food outside, I stood there for a second torn and walked out. I hope management doesn’t encourage this kind of behavior, and I hope the young lady figures out the boundaries of professionalism and personal opinion. There is rarely a reason to be so rude and disrespectful, we are all people man.

They offer large portions at a very great price when you order the combo meals. I always get the bbq combo which comes with rice, chicken, beef, steamed veggies and macaroni salad. Kept hearing about this place so we thought we’d give it a try...we are thoroughly impressed! We ordered the spam musubi which came with two large spam rolls for under $5! The pineapple fried rice is alright. It was a simple fried rice with pieces of, what seemed to be, canned pineapple. The saimin was literally noodles in water. The broth wasnt flavored at all, unfortunately. I added teriyaki and Sriracha in an effort to make it edible. I was not successful. On a better note, my husband loved the garlic chicken! We were told that the garlic chicken platter takes 20 minutes to make. It was worth it.
