Hit & miss kind of place. My husband ordered beef noodle soups while I ordered braised free range duck combo rice. My husband’s dishes was fine. The broth was good at least. My combo rice was super salty. Basically, except for the boiled eggs and rice, everything was salty, even the complimentary side soup.We ordered directly from the QR code on the table. Not much interaction with the staff except when they served us water and 6 orders. My baby and I said thank you but there was no response 🤷🏻‍♀️

Went there for late lunch .Waitress pointing finger table, set and QR order by myself .Felt service is not that friendly .Food is pretty good there !Tomato soup base, fish noodle, and any topping you like . My order is total $24 for fish noodle +$2.00 extra, slice pork, tofu skin, beef tripe, quail eggs, spinach.Size is too big cannot finish it.Fish noodle here is thick but test great but I perfect skinny one .

The soups are huge. And yea I’m talking about the regular size and not the large. Regretfully we could have ordered just one noodle to share between us and a side dish. The tomato broth was tasty and the numbing spicy broth was delicious and slightly addictive. I didn’t realize that it already comes with a sampling of veggies and got the seafood mushroom.

I had a lot of hope for this place because every picture looks delicious but honestly the taste wasn’t that great. The Hainan chicken was more like salty chicken and the pig ear doesn’t look appetizing or like other pictures on google.The only good thing I would say is price was worth the portions.

Noodle soup is great, good selections of broth, almost ten different types of noodle options.For appetizers, I think the fish cake is the best, shrimp cake is ok. Chicken and ducks are okay, but not as good as the sister shop porridge and things.

The noodles always comes with spinach, seaweed and corn, so keep that in mind before spending an extra 3 bucks on extra veggie.Best thing to get there in my opinion would be the original chicken noodle soup, clean and not too salty. The combo comes with noodle soup with gizzards and hearts, and a side of chicken.Beef noodle soup was hearty, big chunks of stewed beef and has a sour cabbage taste. Would recommend if you like the sour taste.Laksa fish noodles is where it went wrong for me. The yellow curry seems like they just boiled the soup with yellow curry powder. It stains everything it touches. The flavor is not even worth it. Very bland curry powder flavor. Fish noodles was okay, chewy and spongy, did not have enough in there at all. Would not recommend for that much money.

Fish noodle is soooo special, it’s weird but I really like the taste. The noodle is made from fish, not rice or wheat. Very healthy and nutritious. However, chicken soup might be a better choice than having laksa. I will try next time to figure it out

They are my favorite comfort noodle option in San Mateo. The chicken + noodle combo is my favorite. The portion is big. Service is fast. Every time I go I get seated immediately. I dont know why they are not busier. I love this place.

I took my parents here because I loved it so much and it reminded them of specific chaozhou cuisine they haven’t found elsewhere in the states. Their faces lit up when they tried fish noodles and chicken, which were prepared exactly the way it was when they were growing up.The bone broth is on point, the portions are huge, and it wasn’t too salty.

This place is unique you sit down at a booth and scan the menu on your phone, you order from your phone and the server will bring you your food and bill at the end.I customized my own soup. Got the spicy soup base with sliced beef & udon noodles. SO DELICIOUS! My friend got the original soup base with chicken and that was very flavorful and tasty as well.

4.5 starsI passed this place while in downtown San Mateo and saw that a whole chicken was $30. A pretty good deal! I decided to go here a few weeks later. We came at 8pm on Tuesday and there were a few people eating. It was really spacious inside, with high ceilings and spread out tables. You mark what you want with the expo markers on the menu.We ordered the meat ball combo with egg noodles, a custom egg noodle with napa cabbage and corn, choy sum in broth, half duck and half chicken. The chicken and duck were amazing. There was almost no fat and really lean. There weren’t too many bones either. The choy sum was also really good. The noodles were a little overcooked, but still really flavorful. I really liked the shrimp balls that came with the combo. We really liked that the broth was chicken, so it was healthier than usual beef broth.We were really really impressed with the duck and chicken. While the noodles were overcooked, we still thought the food was really good. Everything was really tasty and we definitely would come back.

I like their noodle soup. I used to order from their restaurant every other day before I moved from San Mateo. But last time, when I returned, my experience with the restaurant was not very good.First of all, the service is not friendly. On that day, I went there with my boyfriend. I only order one noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and veggies. I scanned their code-on the table and made an order. A little bit later, that Asian lady come and asked me, with Judgys face, that Am I only order one soup. I said * yes * and she went back.That make me feel uncomfortable for me ( at that time, my boyfriend doesn’t feeling like eating noodle and also he already had lunch)After the soup arrive, the pork is not fresh and the taste is not good . Also they use the frozen shrimp and the shrimp taste weird .I am disappointed about the food. This use to be one of my fav noodle shop and now I am sad for the experience.i paid about 25 dollars for one noodle soup and it is a bit pricy. I will not come back again.

Another restaurant where you pick your main dish then pick a noodle type (several options) then any extra toppings. There was no selection of soups, they all came with the same, kinda tasteless, base soup. DH’s seafood combo was ok but the shrimp was overcooked. My brisket was tough bordering on inedible. You expect a cut of meat like that to be cooked until the connective tissue gelatinizes. Not the case here. Will not be coming back.

Sister restaurant to Porridge & Things in Millbrae, this establishment specializes in (southern) Chinese noodles. Order from fixed items or design your own with choice of noodles broth protein etc. Also good for dishes (my fav is braised duck) that goes with rice. Service is quick and order through a web page. Usually not packed with lots of seating so a good option during busier times.

Ordered tue fish noodles- tastes like a fishball but in noodle form. The broth was good, bonus, no MSG!I’m giving three stars because the woman who took my order was mean and hateful. Which is such a bummer, I would, for me, avoid going here next time due the interaction. There are many other eateries around there who have kind and nice staff. Meh

Absent of any real flavor, the noodles here were super underwhelming. Everything is served in a chicken broth that is fine but completely unremarkable. The meats are devoid of flavor. We tried both the sliced chicken and sliced beef.We also ordered the smashed cucumber appetizer and the dish just didnt work for me. The cucumber was too hard. The marinade was thin and too heavy on the vinegar.On the positive side, the service here is pretty good though and the high ceilinged space inside feels bright and comfortable.But overall, especially for the price youre paying (~$15 for a bowl of soup noodles), youre much better off heading to another one of the many solid noodle shops in downtown San Mateo.

They have outdoor seating and decent chinese food. The build your own noodle bowl comes already comes with corn, spinach, and shreds of mushroom/fungus, which wasnt specified in the menu. So dont select any of those when building the bowl or else youll be paying an extra $2 for something that already came with it like we did. Food had a lot of msg, so much the tip of our tongue was tingling, but it was tasty.

Not much to say about this restaurant. It is mediocre. Only good thing is it is open till late night - 1PM which is rare in the area. The ambiance is okayish. We had the Vegetable Noodle Soup with flat noodles. Tomato, lettuce, mushroom, green onions and cilantro are the only veggies in the soup bowl. The broth is pretty bland but they have chilly oil to spice it up.

I did not eat inside so I didnt rate the atmosphere. We ordered noodles with chicken,, and noodles with beef. The food tasted amazing but I was disappointed with the shrimp. The shrimp served was baby shrimp that had no size. They should serve regular sized shrimp when the plate costs almost $20. I will continue to taste and try the other dishes they offer to have a full experience.

A Chinese take on the popular build your own ramen places! There are pre-built options which tend to be better deals as well as build your own options. Use a marker to mark on the menu itself what you want, pick your own noodle or even do a rice. The broth is intense, its cooked for 20 hours! There are side dishes such as their steamed yellow chicken and the stewed duck tend to be the popular ones. Wasnt super thirsty afterwards which is often a worry of mine when you drink all that soup!

Real real homemade healthy chicken broth (not oily like almost most soup got noodles is). Fish balls, shrimp balls and beef tendon balls are all handmade, homemade, packed with good stuff, very fresh - not what you can buy from store. Beef tendons are big, fresh, very good and they give you a lot (no other noodle restaurant of any style in the Peninsula gives you that much tendon in one dish). Noodles are fresh and not soggy. Lots of fresh veggies. This is a great noodles place. It’s not a fancy place or fancy foodie food, but for its category and its food quality, I’d give it a 6 stars if I can. 真材實料.

Come on, your bowl size is like a 12 inch wok size, and your utensils are the normal size ones how do you expect me to eat your slippery noodles without dropping the utensils in the soup! Very disappointing experience with Noodles & Things in San Mateo! After trying this restaurant for the first time last Saturday and the food was delicious, we decided to get take-out from this place again today!For this week, we decided to get the fish noodles again (because it tasted really good last week) and decided to pay $4 more to get extra fish noodles! As we start to unpack the food, we realized that the amount of fish noodles we received was exactly the same amount as the ones we received last week (and we didnt order extra fish noodles last week). The mere difference was that the fish noodles were placed in a larger container this week, and it was not even filled to half-full. I even poured the fish noodles into the regular size container and confirmed that it was exactly the same amount as the one we received last week!! I called the restaurant thinking that perhaps the chef forgot that this was an extra fish noodles order, but was greeted with dishonest excuses - the waitress told me that she is sure that it was extra fish noodles because it was placed in the larger size container and told me to ignore the fact that it was the exact same amount as last week (at regular size without extra fish noodles). She even said if you want to make it look like it has extra fish noodles, just heat up the fish noodles in the broth and it will expand more!! To be honest, if I am paying the extra fish noodles cost to get a larger size plastic container only, why bother? And I did not appreciate the waitresss dishonest excuses over the phone - in fact she didnt even tell me to hold and investigate further with the chef first.I have to say the food at Noodles & Things is delicious but I will definitely never order extra fish noodles from this restaurant ever again.

The Hainan Chicken Rice plate is wonderful, especially on a hot day. If youre looking for Spore Hainan Chicken Rice, this is not it, this is more like a fusion between Spore and Cantonese due to the sauce and side dishes. It is totally worth ordering, very tender and flavorful. The noodles, go with Mala if you like spicy. The laksa, again its not Spore Laksa, but I still order it all the time, as it really hits the spot. They have another restaurant in Millbrae, and quality is consistent.

Save your money.. very bland food. Frozen meatballs. No seasonings on sauteed shrimp. Noodles completely stuck together on buttered noodles. I personally dont even understand how this place is still in business... I highly do not recomend ever eating here.

Absolutely disgusting. This is some third world country mystery meat, meat was just fat and tendony, obviously the cuts of meat no one would want to buy. No flavor over all . Non transperant about what type of meat they are serving and on the price. Waitress asked if we wanted a box because we didnt eat our meals. Told her polightly we did not like it. She could have cared less.

Love the location. The portion is generous and fairly priced. The flavor is mild but NOT boring. It is one of the most conscientious Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area, San Mateo downtown. It is really rare to have such a good location and such a fair price. With the mentality that Chinese food in the Bay Area is expensive and the portions are small, I ordered a bowl of noodles and ordered a side of beef tripe because I was afraid it would not be enough. The beef noodles were surprisingly large and more than enough for one person. The taste is light but not boring, and the taste is to the point. Highly recommended.
