Parking: plenty of site and on adjacent street. Free.Entry: paid or free once a month or frew with bank certain cards on certain daysI went on a free day, the parking lot was nearly full but I found a spot in 5 minutes.Surprisingly a good amount of well known artists including Picasso, Rodin, Rivera, van Gogh and Monet. They have sections for Italian, Dutch, French, and Spanish as well as small sections of modern art like Warhol. Downstairs they have Oriental art, mostly Hindu idols and some Buddhist statues.The best art here is the Italian.In terms of LA county art museums I would place this second only to Getty center and Villa.On site outside the building they have the famous thinker sculpture.Behind the building they have a pond, and nicely manicured garden with a Cafe.Definitely worth a visit

I definitely recommend planning a trip to visit. The amount of paintings and sculptures collected is breathtaking. The outside garden was stunning, and the staff was very welcoming. Im still on a high from just being able to experience a snapshot in time from the paintings to the sculptures.

A very grown up art museum. Mostly paintings on the upper levels, divided by region and century. The bottom level was largely sculpture and carved bronze, stone and wood statues of Asian origin. There were 2 beautiful outdoor sculpture gardens and the grounds were clean and beautifully landscaped. Small cafe outside with a selection of drinks and light fare. $15 regular admission for adluts

Great museum in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. You can get a membership for two for $85 that allows you to go together with your spouse or for one of you to bring a guest any time you visit. Great exhibitions with several pieces each by the likes Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, Degas and Brasque.

Small museum that packs a punch. Carefully selected artwork from 14th through 20th century, every piece deserves attention. Its nowhere near the scale of Getty, but thats not the point. Beautiful garden, and excellent staff.Only wish theyd run the Norton Simon bio movie more frequently.Dont end your Pasadena visit just here, go see the magnificent City Hall and surrounding area.

This was my 2nd time visiting, they were hosting a garden party with various fun craft activities which was a free event for the family with museum general admission. I had a great time, and free parking!

The museum is 15 dollars per adult and children 18 and younger are free. Students are also free with student ID. Its a fun weekend thing to do to take in culture and enjoy art. They also have a cafe out in the garden with chips, flatbread pizza, coffee and beer if you get hungry during your visit.

Sixty years in Southern California and this is my first visit to the Norton Simon. It’s a right-sized museum, big enough to immerse in art for hours or breeze through and pick a few works to sit and soak in. Loved being greeted by Rodin’s masterpiece The Burghers of Calais outside the entry, I didn’t know Simon had one! The exhibition featuring June Wayne and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop was excellent, a reminder of the extraordinary art produced over the years in LA. I was especially excited to see John McLaughlin’s Untitled c. 1946 in Simon’s collection, a wonderfully tasty little painting by one of my favorite Ca artists who most haven’t heard of.

We celebrated Mothers Day by exploring Pasadena, and the Norton Museum was one of the few stops we took. We got here around 3ish, and it was very busy. Make sure you dont bring a big backpack so that you can fully enjoy the experience, I had to wear my package in front of me, lol. Because my sister, mom, and I took our time looking at the art pieces, the crowd did start dwindling down, so just take your time at the start so that you can have the rooms to yourselves hehehe. Also, bring some headphones or wireless headset so you can take advantage of their audio tour, which had the soundtrack of Claud Debussy (awesome!) when we were there. Dont forget to also check out the pond, its breathtaking. If you do get hungry, they do have an outdoor cafe with plenty of setting area, or you can also enjoy your snack while walking around the pond.

I love this museum in Pasadena. They have a variety of exhibits, and I really appreciate their collection of impressionist art. From Rembrandt to Van Gogh to Monet, there is so much to see. The courtyard gardens and sculptures are nice as well, and even the convenient station for snacks. There is a little something for everybody that makes for an entertaining and comfortable experience.

The main floor is broken up into four wings. Each wing spans a different time period. The gift shop is located on the main floor as well as access to the sculpture garden which is a beautiful setting. Downstairs there are south and southeast Asian sculptures. Then kind of tucked away on the lower level was a special exhibit.Saw a lot of famous pieces here. I’ve seen so many prints of Diego Rivera’s The Flower Vendor, and it was great to finally see the original. There were also pieces by Van Gogh and Picasso.

Fantastic collection of art. After visiting the Getty and Hammer museum, we were determined to see more Van Gogh paintings. This museum has six! But it also has an incredible amount of ancient asian art, classical paintings from Rembrandt and Rubens, Murillo, Goya…and some very interesting contemporary works too from Picasso and others.No wait to enter. 15$. This is a wonderful medium sized museum. They have some really big name artists (like Van Gogh) and some that I even recognized from having seen photos of the art. The outdoor sculpture garden is nice, but I wish there was more art out there, and more benches too. Unfortunately the downstairs South Asian art exhibit was closed, and it is planned to open on Thursday, June 17. I was really excited to view it, but will have to come back. My favorite piece was the Indian chess set made of Ivory. It is not too hard to reserve tickets online and they have free admission for students!

Absolutely “must visit” place for all art lovers. Outstanding collection of European art of 14-20 centuries. Interesting Indian/Asian part (even though I’m not a fan of that kind of art it was really curious and educating). Also there is a lovely peaceful garden with lots of sculptures of Rodin and other masters. The price is reasonable - $15 for adults. Free parking. And yes, you’re gonna spend some money in that gift shop.

This is a large museum with a great collection of both artwork and archeological pieces from a large range of places around the world and time periods. It has a particularly large number of paintings from Europe and several from the masters. Only half of the museum was open when I went and that was a big shame as there was so much more to see. I will definitely be going back. You would need half the day to see them all - I could spend a whole day there. It also has a nice garden with a cafe with good coffee.

Norton Simon in Pasadena is a hidden gem museum that is absolutely beautiful, it is filled with hundreds of historical artworks from European art to Asian art. Walk inside to the garden and take a walk across the pond. Such a serene place and quiet spot to relax. I enjoy museums I visit them frequently, it was my first time at this museum.....it was part of my college class that we needed to attend.....I enjoyed the time however here are a few things that this place must work on......1. The noise at this place is Ridiculous they have people used their phone for a walk through with explanations and people have it on speaker so you cannot hear anything when you try to talk softly.2. The cafeteria is very lame about 6 of us ordered hot chocolate with croissants, the croissants were not fresh very very dry, the the drink had no flavor we try to talk to the staff they said its the machine.......oh well.

I was so close to so many revered works of art which I found to be interesting. Picasso, Monet and others were literally at my finger tips and the museum monitors remind you of that with an unprecedented hawkishness. The interior space flowed nicely and I enjoyed the lighting and spaciousness while exploring the works. I loved the outdoor garden/pond area with the mix of trees, plants and sculptures. Lastly, there are interesting sculptures and landscape on the buildings outer grounds. Overall a great experience!

A huge collection of sculptures and paintings. Bigger than what you expect. From Rodin sculptures in the garden (look for a huge Thinker in the back garden) and entrance to Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso and Mondrian. Paintings from 13th to 20th century! This museum is a precious gem maintaining a permanent collection of important and famous artworks from different periods, schools and movements. It is also hosting very interesting and informative visiting exhibitions of unique art pieces from far away. Norton Simon is a treasure of a museum. It is right off the 134 freeway in Pasadena. So much to see. My favorite part is how you can download the app and get a private little tour right from your cell phone. Love the garden as well so beautiful. Parking is free and if you have your student ID you get in for free. I love going to Norton Simon for my weekend outing.

This place is absolutely amazing. It has a great collection of the 17th-19th century artworks, you get to see many impressionists and contemporary artists in there, like, Degas, Renoir, Manat, Gauguin, Seurat, Van Gogh, Rembrandt and many more. Norton Simon Museum is conveniently located in Pasadena, California by the 210 and 134 fwys. The museum houses Impressionist works, Fine Art works, Modern works and sculpture in addition to stone statues.Famous and notable artists include Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Edgar Degas, Diego Rivera, and Kandisky. The viewing room are spacious and there are many volunteers to answer questions. I recommend the audible tour. There is so much history behind each work that someone has painstakingly researched. Its fascinating why artists choose colors, paints, medium to paint on and what was going on in their lives at the time they created the art piece.Norton Simon Museum has a Cafe in the outside garden which offers sandwiches and refreshments. You can sit by the vast lily pond. Tour the garden to see bronze statues in a serene setting.The Museum Gift Shop is a gem. The inventory includes books, puzzles, games, cards, lithographs, jewelry, umbrellas and so much more. I bought an Impressionist jigsaw puzzle where you spot the artists in Belle Epoque Paris. Highlighting twenty different artists.Parking is on the property under beautiful Sycamore trees. The whole experience is very enlightening and tranquil. Operating hours are accommodating as the Museum is only closed three days out of the year, but closes at 5:00pm.

There are works from Picasso, van Gogh, Cezanne, Warhol, and many other well-known artists. The works span periods from ancient to modern. There are sculpture gardens and a cafe as well. This is my all-time favorite art museum in all of Los Angeles and I am so mad at myself for finding this a year ago. I have been going to a lot of the other larger museums like LACMA since I was young but for some reason I missed this one, possibly due to its location, but that was a big mistake on my part. The quality of work displayed here, the diversity of the artists, as well as the grounds surrounding the building are really next level and unbeatable in Los Angeles in my opinion (except both Getty locations).They have art on display from all over the world and it’s hard to beat the lineup of artists. Parking is extremely easy and plentiful and honestly it’s not ever as crowded as some of the other museums in Los Angeles like LACMA or the Getty. Some of the most beautiful paintings I have seen in Los Angeles are housed in this museum.I could not recommend it more honestly even if you hate art you should go here it’s honestly one of the very best museums in Los Angeles in terms of the arts. It is really well designed and a real treat for anyone any age.

An amazing display of art, culture and history from around the world. The paintings are not just beautiful they are works of some of the worlds most historic artist. The detail in the sculptures from Southeast Asia were some of my favorite pieces to photograph and sketch. Very impressive collection of artwork, paintings, statues, sculptures largely focused on Renaissance and post-Renaissance European paintings as well as ancient Buddhist and Hindu artifacts from across South Asia. The beauty of the Norton Simon, is it it can be seen in a roughly three hour. And you wont feel like youre missing anything at all. They have a beautiful collection of Eastern art in the basement, Western and Dutch Masters above, and a wing of modern art. With an impressive collection of impressionist artists. A three hour visit is my recommendation, that gives you an idea of of what the collection is about and gives you time to enjoy a rest in the garden and a glass of wine. Ching ching🍷🍷

This New Yorker thoroughly enjoyed the Norton Simon museum. Their permanent exhibit of South East Asian sculpture is wonderful and like nothin I’ve seen before.The grounds are beautiful which adds the to outdoor exhibit. The staff from security to the gift shop person were so incredibly helpful in offering information about the temporary exhibit, rare showing in the low light room to finding the bathroom.Monet’s The Artist’s Garden at Vetheuil surprisingly brought me to tears. Can Gogh’s The Mulberry Tree perfectly placed next to Van Gogh’s Portrait of a Peasant left me gazing for for quite a bit.I highly recommend an afternoon here with friends, family, children or solo.

One of my favorites is one of Rodin’s original Thinkers right outside along the street for the community to see. Very nice small art museum. I believe it is based on Mr Simons collection, and upstairs he seemed to focus on having excellent examples of 4 centuries of European paintings. Downstairs is a bit eccentric, with lots of South Asian religious stone sculptures as well as temporary exhibits. Nice outdoor water and sculpture garden, with snacks and drinks.

They have a little of something from other great artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir ... but their most prized artwork is perhaps Van Gogh’s “The Mulberry Tree.” Add some oriental treasures too.There is a cafe overlooking the sculpture garden with a pond and some wandering ducks which the kids will like.Currently, some of their reserved French collection are on display.

Clean and plentiful restrooms. Great little cafe outdoors on the main level with a good selection of beverages and food at fair prices. Its the perfect sized museum. You can see it all in a day, including a trip to the giftshop. Cozy yet spacious with a great mix of classic European works, Asian sculptures, and a sprinkling of contemporary art. The outdoor cafe has a great selection of pastries, drinks (try the Italian sodas), coffee, and snacks. The sculpture garden is lovely to walk through or sit by and enjoy. l could almost ignore the noise coming from the freeway nearby. Highly recommended.

Something about the location, building, and exhibits kept calling me back time after time. Such a wide variety of permanent exhibits and artifacts, pristine garden pond, and wonderful traveling exhibits.The layout of the museum feels like the biggest smallest museum you have ever been to. Do not take kids to this museum. We had a truly awful experience here today where I was repeatedly lectured by the aging staff about my parenting. Evidently they have a rule about kids under 12 being required to “hold hands” with there parents, although there are no signs to this effect and we were not told of this. At some point my 9 year old who is trying his best to be interested walks in front of someone taking a picture. Someone who I assume is part of the large security staff comes up to us and proceeds to express concern that the back of my sons head had been photographed and that we should be concerned as this is dangerous. This confused me and managed to scare my son. We are also now told about this rule of hand holding for the first time. In the coming minutes the same staff mentions again there concern about his photo being taken and now my son is locking up and getting scared. He collapses in a ball and decides he is in trouble and won’t move. After more than five minutes of me trying to console him I finally get him up and try again to get him to at least tell me anything about any painting in the room. I am trying to get him to snap out of things but I fail. The rest of our family is gone in some other part of the museum. So I carry him out front and sit him on a bench trying to get him to come back to life. While sitting there what I assume to be the head of security shows up and starts lecturing me. Now my kid is upset, and thinks he is in trouble, and now it appears so am I which I say as much to this “old dude.” I tell him we are leaving and carry my son to the car, call the rest of my family and we leave.Now I have a kid who is scared of museums and hates art. Why? He did nothing wrong. And never did any of the 40 staff try at all to get him interested in the art or try and help me in any way. This is a snobby place and you can tell it’s a “privately run” gallery. In my opinion they only care about security and not about passing on the “arts” to kids. If they don’t want kids there, DON’T LET THEM IN, especially for free. We are never going back despite my wife being an art major in college… Worst vacation day EVER. Thanks…

The Norton Simon Museum is one of the best in the country (and I’ve been to most museums, including Europe).Some of the highlights, and works that are extremely difficult to see in the US are paintings by Giorgione (teacher of Titian) and his teacher, Giovanni Bellini.The museum also has a large collection of impressionist works by all the greats, with an emphasis on Degas.I knew I was in for something special when I counted 7 Rodin bronze sculptures in the courtyard just walking into the museum!

What a fantastic museum! There’s a surprising amount of artwork to look through. It’s large enough to house some interesting pieces and small enough to be doable in a day/not get too overwhelming. You can learn more about the man behind the museum if you check out a showing at the little theater in the back. The museum is very well staffed with helpful people. There is free parking in the lot but if it’s too late during the morning it gets filled and you might need to settle for street parking. $15 admission is okay. It’s hot in the museum (didn’t have AC when we went). The sculpture garden is lovely, and has an outside cafe inside. Definitely check the museum out if you haven’t already!

After experiencing many museums that Los Angeles had to offer, I realized that the Norton Simon Museum is greatly underrated. I was able to see some of the most celebrated and captivating works of art by many masters over many periods. Particularly some of the most detailed architectural paintings Ive ever seen. The lesser known works by masters like Degas, Picasso and Giovanni Antonio Canal draw you in and show you something unexpected. Careful consideration and meticulous planning show in spades as you flow from room to room gradually navigating through time. Not to mention it has the best museum store around. Imagine a Degas painting of lilies, now that is what greets you as you enter the sculpture garden. The trees provide ample strolling shade making it very peaceful. The Norton Simon Museum is one of our favorite places in the area, which is saying a lot because Pasadena and California have so much to offer. This art museum has such an impressive collection of over 12,000 artworks, including masterpieces by famous artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Pablo Picasso. Considering most of these works were owned by a private collector, that is pretty amazing and speaks volumes about the Foundation and Norton Simons legacy. Perfect size, not too expansive but not too small. I suggest good walking shoes though, wear flip flops and your feet will be sore at the end! There is a cafe with soups and sandwiches as well as snacks. It is right next to a beautiful outdoor pond. Small, but gorgeous, and has a great quality collection. I especially love their many Dega paintings and sculptures, and their two rooms of abstract art. They have two Kandinsky works, and a Klee!

This is the best art museum to take someone thats never been to an art museum. Its not huge so they wont get overwhelmed. Its just a good size museum where you can see everything in one day. Beautiful garden too.

Went to this museum with the family and took the tour of the Indian deities. The tour was excellent, children learned so much from a knowledgeable and inclusive instructor. It was followed by a arts and crafts activity with these same instructors and volunteers. They care deeply about the subject matter and the children. Highly recommend this activity if it is still available. Otherwise the museum has excellent collections including a beautiful Sculpture garden. In general, all of the staff members we interacted with were such positive and helpful people. This museum is a gem and I highly recommend it.

I was very impressed with the documentary of Norton Simon in the in-house theater. This man was a remarkable human being and contributed beyond measure to the people of Pasadena greater Los Angeles and the world! The world class art collection that he amassed in his lifetime is formidable. I was also surprised to hear from one of the staff that this was only about a 3rd of the total Norton Simon collection that was on display at the time that I visited. The grounds are serene peaceful and inviting. I will definitely be back to spend more time in this beautiful place called the Norton Simon museum.

I live in Michigan. I was here the last Thursday of December, 2022. This was my first time visiting the Los Angeles area. My favorite art so far (in general, anywhere) are old European detailed paintings. Perhaps because I appreciate the skill or time it took to paint them. The Norton Simon museum is more extensive than I realized. There are 2 levels. The a lower level, partly underground, is buddhist and Hindu sculptures from India and south-east Asia, and an area with weird abstract works by 6 women artists - maybe that was a special exhibit. The ground level has the paintings, including works by zurubán, Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso, Rembrandt van Rijn, and some other well known or not-so-well known artists. As for how this museum compares to the Huntington and J Paul Getty museums, I went to all 3, on different days. They all have some overlap in scope but each has types of works not at the others. I suggest all 3, if you can spare the time. This space is the smallest of the 3 museums, but extensive enough that I spent over 4 well-spent hours here.

Nice museum with Free parking! Enjoy peaceful artwork as your hobbies or for your class or just enjoy with your families and friends. We paid an annual member for two for a price of $90 or $15 admission per person. You will love this place during hot summer day with cold AC!

Loved this museum! What a fabulous collection and I highly recommend listening to the outstanding online audio guide as you go through the museum. The sculpture garden is really nice too. I took a little break in the nice little outdoor Cafe.

There are about 20 guards who all appear to be on power trips. Felt like my son and I were being “stalked” from the moment we arrived and throughout our stay. We left after 20 minutes because it’s impossible to enjoy art when you feel like you’re being followed by guards who are watching your every move. It was like being in a maximum security prison.

A small museum that made me feel as if I was in one of the many international museums I have been to. Philadelphia, New York, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, great Artists, Paintings and sculptures from all over. And Degas always make me smile.

Always grand. Love the extensive collection of paintings, from the end of the dark ages through modern art. My favorites are mostly amongst the French Impressionists, who are quite well represented. Food at the concession in the sculpture garden is also quite good.

Probably the best collection of paintings in los angeles. The garden is stunning. I felt sorry about all the Asian statues in the lower level of the museum as most of them must have been smuggled out of their countries. Not to be missed!

Nortons was a beautiful peaceful museum. The collection of pieces was superb. I could have spent the entire day staring at the Degas sculptures. The hidden gem is their garden. I highly recommend a visit!

Like that they have a lot of artifacts from around the world and it is maintained well but also dont like the fact that they have so many artifacts from around the world :)
