It’s really a great place for sushi! On top of that the service is very good! The staff is quite friendly as well. We ordered some rolls like Gentleman, California, and Boston and all of them were delicious. I especially like Gentleman because it’s crispy and a bit spicy. 😋 Their Miso is also very tasty. Definitely will come back soon and try other rolls with friends.

Staff are nice and the outside seating area has a nice intimate feel. That’s really the only attraction to this place since the food is extremely bad. Another of many generic “japanese” restaurants very similar to fast food local chinese places. They all use the same supplier so you can expect the quality to be absolutely garbage.

This place has great food. We enjoyed the yellow jacket roll and the chicken teriyaki bento box. One of the best rolls I’ve ever tried. Great atmosphere and service! We will be back.

Went in with group of eight people during Happy Hour-Dinner time. Service was not bad but the food was definitely not acceptable. Worst Chicken Karaage I’ve ever eaten, hard as a rock I don’t even know what was fried in there (microwave karaage you can find in frozen isle in Asian supermarkets is better, imagine that). Geso karaage was small portion & just OK for $12 so skip the fried dishes here. We also had Hamatchi Kama for appetizers which was decent.On to the rolls. We ordered multiple roll dishes but all of them are overpriced for what it is. They were drenched with sauces to cover up not so fresh fish in most of their rolls. These high reviews are misleading and do not reflect the quality of food served here. Low quality, overrated, overpriced restaurant it has become. There are many other better options in San Diego, save your money and go somewhere else.On top of this, their Happy Hour beer is watered down. Sapporo does not taste like this. It is travesty to serve a water down beer just because it is for a discount during HH. 1.3/5 ⭐️

Love this place. Been coming here for just over 10 years and the dynamite roll is still one of my favorite rolls I’ve had from any sushi place.It’s a bit more expensive than other sushi places so I usually come here for an occasion like friends visiting from out of town or if I’m celebrating something but it is so worth the money every time!

A little hidden gem in UTC for Sushi 🍣And other delicious food. I recommend the Hamachi Kama the collar of the yellowtail located just above the gills and below the head. It is the fattiest part of the fish.

Food is good, the restaurant set up is barely dine in, so more of a hole in the wall atmosphere but Im ok with that. Definitely not a upscale dinning in any way. But great food for decent prices in SD area parking is not good make sure to take your parking ticket in to get validated or it will cost around $ 5-8

I like eating sushi always. And what I love more is that different places making different rolls. Even the same type of rolls, different chefs make them slightly different. I love that. This place definitely has a very unique roll we never saw before - Samurai Roll which has a tons of red onion on the top. It’s really interesting. I mean if you like red onion, you will like it. But for me, I don’t eat raw onion so I couldn’t enjoy it. I really like my Girls Night roll. And their vegetables tempura is delicious, it’s not on the menu tho, you can ask for it. Anyways, if you work or live nearby, here is not bad at all to have lunch and dinner.

It is so much an honor for my family to be in this restaurant. Ive enjoyed Nozomis rolls, boat menus, the noodles and even side menus. You will feel at home with their friendliness all the time. I took some photos of dishes little after my kids made some mess.

This is a lovely little place with great service and a wide variety of rolls. Spicy scallop roll was great. Standard spicy tuna. The Girls Night Out and Samurai rolls both had an unusual poppy seed mustard dressing. Definitely unique.

Lunch service for a group is quite decent. Dynamite roll and calamari appetizer are good. They only validate the parking ticket if you park in the lot next to the restaurant, not the one across the street.

This place has gone downhill over the past year. Not sure if new owner, but do not recommend. They used to offer you miso soup with sushi, but no more. The last time I was there I was shocked that with my 5 orders of different sushi rolls there was no ginger or wasabi. I had to ask and a very small amount was brought to me. I also had to wait 45 minutes after asking to be brought my check and my parking ticket was not valadated( was told it was and ended up paying for parking) For the expensive price you would think this dining experiences would be better. Also bathroom not in restaurant and you have to walk down outside alley to back of building. I spent a lot of money here monthly that they are now going to lose. Management needs to hire more people and provide better customer service. Urban Sushi is now my go to sushi spot in area. Great food and service!

This skimpy, kinda gross ramen cost 14$.-It comes with one small chunk of pork. Most ramen places put 2 long slices.-When I went to pick it up I asked if they could also provide spicy sauce on the side, and they said it cost 1$ 😂-the broth was mostly flavorless, but the aftertaste kind of reminded me of collagen and grossed me out.The smell in the restaurant was also not inviting. There are *way* better spots for ramen 🍜 in SD.

Had the veggie yakisoba ($18) and a baked salmon roll ($15) and we unfortunately did not enjoy it. The yakisoba was flooded in a sauce that was flavorless and the baked salmon roll had a weird taste. It tasted like $5-$7 food, if that had been the price we likely would have lowered our expectations but we get in rent in La Jolla prolly isnt cheap. We were there mid afternoon on a Monday. We dont plan to return.

*shady restaurant review*I visited a few weeks ago and had dinner with my sister here. The food was pretty good but I left my credit card at the restaurant (I know my bad). I called the next day to confirm that they had it and the lady on the phone was very nice and said that it was there and I could pick up anytime. I live about an hour away so I was planning on a day to go down and get it.Over the span of a week of them confirming it was at their restaurant, my card was charged $70 at a local liquor store and then later that day another $1500 was charged. I called them to ask what was going on…the man on the phone said “dang that’s crazy” and when I suggested they do a internal check of their staff to see who was being shady he responded by saying “yeah, I don’t know what to tell you but it’s pretty busy here I gotta go”I don’t expect them to go out of their way to get me my card back, that’s on me. But I do expect them to not charge my card….Fair warning. If you want decent sushi go here, but do not make the human mistake of leaving your card. You never know what might happen to it at this restaurant :-)

I came one time for lunch and had the smoked salmon tataki salad ($12) which was fresh and delicious, with ample portions of fish, mushroom, and assorted vegetables. Customers can choose either to sit indoors or outdoors under a canopy or tent. I chose to sit outside under the canopy and the setting is very welcoming with plenty of ventilation and just the right amount of shade vs. sunlight. I would definitely recommend this salad to anyone who loves sashimi or pokebowls or just wants a salad with a japanese flair!

While staying at the Marriott next door, we decided to walk over and try Nozomi and were pleasantly surprised! The food was outstanding! In fact better than anywhere we’ve been! Not over salted or covered up with “secret” sauces, but just right. The servers were attentive and very polite. We met the owner (or manager?) and he was especially gracious. Excellent!

Nozomi has a good value for their menu items. They have a lot of variety available (bento box, ramen, sushi, nigiri) so there’s likely something for everyone.I came during lunch and they get very busy. This is my familys go-to sushi restaurant. We love the riceless options and the option for brown rice substitute. The service is always quick and friendly and the staff is knowledgeable and provides excellent recommendations. The ambiance is lovely with outdoor seating and heating. We recently met the chef who introduced a couple of items from the specials menu and they were absolutely phenomenal.

Service was really nice, but unfortunately the food wasn’t. We had takeout of Chicken Katsu donburi, dumplings and a sushi roll. The roll was alright but the dumplings were not hot and they were hard on the edges. But the Chicken katsu was so weird: very, very soggy. It honestly seemed like it was reheated from another day. They picked up our order even before pick up time, so it couldn’t be that we waited too long.We called them to tell them we thought the food was reheated and we got quite a rude response. Sadly we do not recommend or would eat here again.

Clean and good place but horrible food instead. We ordered teriyaki chicken and 2 special rolls. None of them were good. Teriyaki chicken tested rotten that hungry kid refused to eat. Had a bento box and 2 pieces of a dragon roll. To me the rice tasted off from what I am used to, like it had added butter or oil. The bento box was delicious which is odd because the lady said it was the same rice in the California roll that came with the bento. I have had dragon rolls before and they have not tasted like this one. Could be my taste buds, eel sauce tasted the same, avocado is avocado. So rice, shrimp or the eel was tasting oily or fishy. Brought this to their attention and they acknowledged it but that was it.

Great appetizers too, and a large selection of rolls are offered, along with hot plates (katsu, etc). Oh how I missed the Chirashi salad! My mom and I would go to the long gone location on Convoy. The 3/4 sized salad is huge. We also ordered a roll and were overly stuffed. Everything was delicious and the staff was amazing. Parking is really lame though, we had to park in the pay parking on the other side of the building. It was $4 with validation.

The covered patio was warm and inviting, and they have inside seating as well. If you go after 5:30pm, the parking is free. Highly recommend a visit.

Friendly staff, good happy hour specials, weve done take-out many times and always been impressed at the attention to detail they spend on even that. Most importantly, great sushi. Everything tastes really high quality and you can tell they spend more effort on making it than a lot of places out there. But all that said, if you are just getting sushi and havent tried their chirashi salad before you are missing out - its something they do better than any other place Ive tried and often a deciding factor for where we go.

Prior to ordering we asked twice for separate bills and told yes it would be separate. When the bill came it was all combined and we were told we couldnt use separate cards. When I argued the waitress told me to do it myself. I used the PoS system and rung up the table myself. Got great photos as I acted as the waiter. Weve been eating here since 2006 when we lived in student housing next door. The quality seems to be just as good as always, though the prices are definitely higher. Last night we had a crunch roll, yellow storm, and spicy tuna. Spicy tuna was somewhat boring, but the rest were really good. In the past weve really liked the pork yakisoba, tho they stopped listing that on the menu (but Ive been able to order it nonetheless).

We came here because weve tried the other two restaurants in the same building so why not? But we left with major disappointment. We moved to Carlsbad from Mission Valley in San Diego so were tried a lot of sushi places in SD. The quality of the sushi is pretty good but wow the prices are ridiculous and the menu is so small. Theres only a handful of rolls to choose from and why does everything have to have cream cheese or jalapeno?! $15-20 a roll and you add cream cheese?! I just cant stand it. Like I said it all taste pretty good but I just cant justify the price. Theres plenty of great sushi places in SD at almost half the price per roll. Other than that service was great.Conclusion: Save your money and try somewhere else. If money isnt an issue then by all means go here!

Ive gone to this place several times, so this is an honest review. The food is good. Thats not an issue. The service however could use some work. They dont check on you often and are kinda slow. But thats not the worse part. Today I ordered an Ice Tea. They brought me the glass, and when I took a sip IT WAS NOT ICE TEA. Apparently they accidentally served me random trash juice from the night before. I didnt push to find out more about what it was. I was afraid of what I actually drank. They apologized but still had the nerve to charge me for the drink. So whatever tip I wouldve gave (I tip well), I took the cost of the drink out of it on top of leaving the bare minimum for tip. That is unacceptable. Im completely grossed out and I will definitely never return again (I was a regular).

This place is AMAZING. We had the Hawaiian roll and the super Boston, both were perfect! The Hawaiian roll was wonderfully arranged and very fancy, whereas the Boston was a much more traditional style roll but still beautiful and delicious. Food wasn’t bad, although a bit expensive. But the wait is too long. I came in a little after 3pm on a Thursday where there were 3 tables with customers, it took them 50min to make a noodle dish and 1 rolls. One of the most disappointing ramen we ever had. We decided to try this place since it was so close to UCSD, but we probably wont return. We ordered a shiro sushi roll and 2 black garlic oil ramen. The sushi was mediocre and wasnt anything special. However, the ramen was worse than mediocre. The toppings looked fine, but when we actually ate them, we were dissatisfied. The bamboo was hard and stringy like they just poured some from a old container. We were surprised by how little taste the mushroom and bean sprouts had. It was weird chewing something with texture but no taste. The one piece of meat that was in the ramen is not like the typical chashu. It was actually grilled and edges were burnt. It didnt have the softness we enjoy from chashu. The broth was supposed to be black garlic oil, but didnt have the satisfying darkness and richness we had from other black garlic oil ramen. It actually left a oily bitter aftertaste. One of the ramen was actually much more bitter than the other even though we ordered the same thing. It was unpleasant to eat and we didnt finish. We asked the waiter about the bitterness of the ramen and they said they probably added too much garlic in one of them. We got half off for one ramen in the end. The only thing that was probably decent from the ramen were the eggs. However, the ramen from this place falls short of the quality of other ramen in the area. We definitely prefer those in the convoy or Mira Mesa area.

My apartment complex is right next door to Nozomi and I wish I could eat there more often (daily sushi is not in my budget :/ ). I have literally seen them grow more popular every month from the window of my apartment, which overlooks the business complex on regents park row. Every night for several months, this place has been getting more and more packed. Its definitely one of the most popular sushi restaurants in La Jolla. I noticed other reviewers complaining about it being too cramped. Well, you can now put your worries to rest San Diego, Nozomi has expanded their dining area to accomodate La Jollas growing appetite for delicious sushi, and its as pretty as it ever was.Also, whats great about Nozomi is that I can bring the sushi haters in my family to eat here, since the restaurant serves delicious cooked food as well. It really is a great little spot ...which is not so little any more.Last thing - the Ceviche roll looks incredible. Its on my hitlist for next time.

Didnt know about their happy hour until today, but they have some pretty sweet deals for sushi rolls (~2$ California roll, ~5$ Super Crunch roll) and beer (~3$ for a 16oz draught) before 6:30p on weekdays.Ive been there for sashimi before and it was pretty good (not as good as Toshi-San, but thats all the way in downtown), so I wanted to come back for their KTofu. As far as the tofu goes, it wasnt bad but next time I have a craving for KTofu Ill go to an actual tofu place where you can get all the fixings.Will definitely come to Nozomi again for happy hour sushi though![edit] Their BBQ short ribs are really good.
