Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe in San Diego

The Cinnamon Roll was fantastic. I also had worst coffee I have ever had. Twice.The Cinnamon Roll was soft and full of flavor. The frosting was really delicious; and I am not usually a frosting person. Apparently those are available Thursday - Sunday.The Espresso Scone had a good flavor the first time, but was super dry ...like crumble all over when you take a bite. I wanted to try again, but the second time it also had a crazy amount of espresso in it and was insanely dry.The Chocolate and the Almond Croissants were not good. They were super dry and had no flavor. The Cranberry Orange Scone was okay but also super dry.I tried the Iced Hazelnut Latte once, and the Brown Sugar Latte. They tasted like straight milk with a teaspoon of coffee in it. I couldnt taste the coffee or any flavor. Or actually an unpleasant one if anything. I am still so surprised by it and would steer anyone away.I had thought of trying a sandwich someday. People seem to be blissfully enjoying their food. But the inconsistency makes me hesitant.The workers were so sweet. Its super cute inside but pretty chaotic and not relaxing. The line to order is right next to the tables.I wanted any Cinnamon Roll lovers to know about that gem. I feel bad rating it so low. But, it was my experience.

Really made a last minute decision to come here because my husband and I were looking at some houses in the area.Such a lovely place. Really Aesthetic and cutesy and had a very creative manu as well!Servers were all super nice and sweet! Service was extremely quick and we were very very surprised by this! Not a lot of places have this; the food was even out in like 5 to 10 minutes.Turmeric Honey Latte - amazing! It came out nice and hot and tasted so good as well. Perfectly sweet and just that hint of turmeric and just a really nice coffee overall.Big Bad Wolf Panini - swapped out the ham and bacon for chicken breast(So it was chicken breast, salami, 3-cheese blend, apricot jam, jalapenos)Really good sandwich here! The accidentally Got the wrong order here; forgot the salami and the three cheese blend so I pointed it out to them. They were apologetic and came out with the correct version in literally under 5 minutes. Very quick service.Correct Panini was amazing! They forgot to Panini press the sandwich this time but we didnt ask for that again. Chicken and salami and apricot jam and jalapenos, everything went well together. Perfect blend of sweet, spicy and salty.I had half the sandwich and my husband had the other, my half did feel a little too greasy for some reason.Nutmeg Scramble - Got this with egg whites instead. A really good scramble but the portion size was quite small. Actually very small! Asked for the side salad instead of fries and to be honest we expected more salad quantity for having paid $3. I think this was the only downside of the place.

Mid day Friday and this place is super busy!Food was good; well prepared, good ingredients, and cooked just right. I had the Nutmeg scramble which comes with melon slices and toasted muffins.The Chai Latte is big, smooth, but a bit sweet for my taste.

Updated Review - We came here to try Guy Fieri’s recommend dish on Diners Drive-Ins Dives, which is La Havana. My husband ordered that and I had the Egg Benedict. Both dishes are delicious but we preferred the egg Benedict more. The poached eggs are cooked perfectly. The home made English muffins are so delicious and the hollandaise sauce is super good. I definitely recommend that. The La Havana is fine but it’s really heavy taste, too flavorful. If you have a heavy taste you might like that.Previous review- It’s a super cute bakery and breakfast place! I love the decorations and atmosphere here. All the pastries look so fresh and yummy, we ordered a chocolate croissant and a coconut rum cake, which were both really great. The house coffee is warm and nice too. I’m definitely coming back for more pastries and breakfast meals. By the way, the service is super amazing, so friendly and sweet.

Cute place, and they have good coffee. It is a bit pricy and the customer service is not consistent! I wanted to treat my son with yummy stuff as he was having a bad day, and I got very disappointed with their service… unfortunately they took so long to warm up the cinnamon roll “and it was not warmed up enough! hard and cold from inside”, and the pineapple cold drink was all water with a bit of pineapple sweetened flavour!

First off, the lady who works behind the counter is darling. You could not have picked a better person to run the front counter. I had the vegan scramble which was scrumptious. The cafe itself is lively, which little cafes typically are. If youre a loner like me, they have a nice little seating area towards the front where you can sit and look out on the patio. Very nice experience! Ill be back.

A nice brunch spot. Huge portions, good food! Tried the caprese panini, savory quiche and the omelette. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating but the outdoor seating tends to get a little chilly as there are no space heaters outside.

This was a perfect spot to have a one on one reunion with an ol friend that was central to both of us with our busy schedule. We didnt eat anything but we did have amazing coffee.The convince of its location made this reunion possible for usThe atmosphere was nice when we artived but quickly found the afternoon certainly brings a rush of customers and the atmosphere does a shift.Nothing negative. Just an awareness that our conversation went from low key speaking to wrapping it up so we werent competing with the customer chatter.We definitely will visit this business again and schedule our time accordingly. Maybe even include a meal. The convince of their location is a bonus!!!

Grabbed breakfast on a Monday morning. Cute cafe. Got a chocolate croissant, bacon and eggs. Had better croissants. Bacon and eggs were nothing special. Potatoes were the best part.

Not really familiar with the area, but dropped my sister off at Sharps here, and decided to find a nearby coffee shop! So thankful I didn’t have to settle for Starbucks!! This place is charming and the staff super friendly! I got the regular house coffee and as much as I shouldn’t have, a blueberry lemon scone! The coffee is great, and one bite into the scone, I think it going to be a great day!! I highly recommend this if you’re in the area!!
