Oak & Rye is a very cozy restaurant in downtown Los Gatos.Our favorite dishes include their Shaved Brussels Sprouts, Arugula Salad, and their pizzas. We typically order a customized pizza, but this time we ordered the Coach Goni. We love the old-fashioned wood-fired pizza.Make a reservation online or go there early, as it is very busy.

Oak & Rye has the best wood-fired pizza I have found. The thin crust has the perfect amount of char and their flavors are unique and delicious. My perfect meal here is splitting a Commissioner Gordon pizza, the shaved Brussels sprouts salad and charred broccolini, and a Negroni 🤌

Oak and Rye never misses. They did start adding forced tips because too many boomers in Los Gatos think restaurant workers don’t deserve to be able to afford housing, but that just keeps the worst kind of customers away anyway so no loss there. If I ran this business, I’d just raise prices of all the menu items to actually cover living wages and get rid of tipping entirely, but I don’t.Drinks are great and the food is always phenomenal. Service is as good as you could ask for in a vaguely western themed somewhat hipster pizza bar restaurant. Their special events are worth it too if you’re considering going to one. Wine here is good too.The only somewhat unfortunate thing I can think of is that takeaway usually has an hour+ wait. It’s definitely not your corner pizza shop. I think it’s worth waiting for and worth the price, but plan ahead.

Hmmm, what to say??? Best pizza in the Bay Area, and yes Delfina Del Popolo are awesome, but this is IT. Awesome drinks (the Prunedale Life was a gamble that paid off!) and oh, an actual Lambrusco on the menu (best pizza wine ever)? Have you tried the oyster mushroom? I could go on but then I’d be hungry again…

Super nice chicken wings. buttermik ranch dip fitted perfectly as well as the spicy ones. for me they could have even been a bit more powered but i like spicy hot food, so thats not a complaint. all in all it was a nice stay with good food and some beer.

Visited here on my most recent trip to Santa Cruz and Los Gatos and was not disappointed! From the lovely host and server who helped, to the food everything was amazing! Our server Victoria was delightful and took care of all of our needs! Get this girl a raise! She went above and beyond to make our occasion special!

Pizzas were tasty(3/5) but over-priced. Atmosphere was lively(3/5) merging on the chaotic. If the criteria for the selection of the restaurant manager was to be rude, highly stressed and have the bedside manner of a serial killer, then he is the perfect employee. A solid 1 star overall for his outstanding achievement.

I really liked the vibe of this place, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately I didnt like my pasta dish (maybe thats what you get when you order pasta from a pizza restaurant!), which I found lacked flavour and the pasta was an odd thick noodle type rather than spaghetti. The starter dishes were also a bit strange: olives which arrived hot- never experienced this before. And Brussel sprouts which was a pile of raw shredded sprouts with cheese sprinkled on top. Not easy to eat. However, the pizza we ordered was delicious! And the wine list is good and the pour generous. Id definitely go back, I would just choose other dishes!

We went to Oak and Rye tonight and had ordered for pickup. Our plans changed and we ended up wanting to eat there. I go to the front to ask the host, Eddie, to change our order to eat-in. We figured this should be easy given our food wasn’t prepared yet.Right before I go to the counter, I hear the host say to the customers in front of me that he can seat them now or they can wait a couple minutes for an outside table. They opt to eat inside. I look around and notice a few additional spots open inside as well, so I expect that it’d be easy for them to seat us inside. Note: We are only a party of two, similar to the folks he just talked to. When I go up to ask, the response from Eddie is that I’ll have to wait an additional 55 minutes to be sat down. I thought that was a ridiculous estimate, especially given I could see empty tables, and he had just told the customers before me that there were seats open.Then after I question it, he actually ends up admitting that he can’t sit me down because my takeout order meant I only gave an 18% tip (they have a mandatory 18% tip policy for takeout orders — yes, ridiculous). His exact words were this “Why would I seat you if you only paid 18% gratuity?” What on Earth?? Number one I gave gratuity for a takeout order. Second of all, I already paid the 18% tip, hell I already paid for my order. Why wouldn’t I be treated like any other customer?After a bit back and forth (where he was speaking to me in a VERY rude tone) he finally agrees that we can sit in the front.Oak and Rye: My recommendation to you is to put customers FIRST. Whether they are takeout or eat-in — treat them equally. And make sure your employees don’t have a short temper when a customer makes a simple request like this. Very unprofessional. Based on the other reviews here, Eddie may be “the manager”? A terrible one at that…

For a place that charges 18% tip ahead of time (when you place your order at the register outside) they didnt have good costumer service. The hostess and the waiter were nice but boy the manager doesnt know what her job is (hint- its called the service industry for a reason) . I was hungry and had an hour to kill so I ordered the special burger. The menu is pretty limited to pizza/salad. The burger came with lame chips and very burnt bacon that left a bitter taste in my mouth. For $18 burger I expected better. This place is getting 1 start for a reason and its solely the mediocre food and the grumpy manager. I am very grateful they offered me a refund but I was still left with no lunch.

Every dish here was delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything. We loved the broccolini, gnocchi and the Margherita pizza. Everything was flavored perfectly. They had a good whiskey and bourbon list, but I didn’t have a chance to try it. Will definitely be coming back!

Came here for my birthday last year and have been craving their cocktail and pizza.So came back for lunch! The pizza here is divine. It’s thin crust but almost a nnan texture. Soft and pushes back on your teeth. The different options, even the vegetarian ones are nice (coming from a meat eater). Definitely worth making the trip to Los Gatos just to go.

Ive been here many times so it saddens me to post this review. At the end of our meal sitting at a 4 top near the bar, after a nice evening with friends, we were chatting with another guest and her daughter who had just walked in. One of our party had moved to the bench seat of our table to make room to talk to the friend. The manager came up and asked my friend to move out of the way so he could seat the next table. My friend said sure Im just waiting for people to move. The manager, unprovoked tried to forcibly move my friend, who then said please do not xxx touch me and we were ejected. We left. Will never return.

Delicious delicious delicious! The olives were yum, the broccolini with Parmesan and garlic was unreal, and the pizzas were delectable. The rosemary pizza (think it’s called Nobu) was by far my fav thing of the evening. The spicy salami and honey pizza was awesome too (I don’t remember the name, but they said it was their #1 seller. 🤷‍♂️)Ambiance was legit - especially if you’re an 80s/90s kid.

Well this review is long overdue. Ive been coming here for the past 3 yrs -probably my fav go to pizza place in Los Gatos. Pizzas are meticulously crafted and quality has always been consistent and unique topping combinations. Love the warm homemade olives. Pics shown here are from the weekend brunch menu - speckled hen and commissioner Gordan. Both excellent pizzas. Price is a bit on the higher side but totally worth it! A must try if you in the neighborhood.

They included 18% gratuity for a burnt and take out no-service!I pay gratuity for table service, but without asking me, they charged 18% AND it is for a burnt pizza. We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. Eternally thankful to them for introducing us to this place. We ordered veggie pizzas and these were served with a chilly oil and it was an infusion of beautiful flavors. I have had many kinds of pizzas but this place is amazing, a must try. Spent a lot of time on their website to reserve a table and put credit card as deposit for a reservation for table for 3 at 730pm.Arrived with my wife and kid to the restaurant at 730pm. Soon after there were perfectly well placed two empty tables cleared up for 2 and 4 seats The usher made us wait for 30mins to say that those tables are for others and we had to wait for 30mins more for a table. It was discussed as there was nobody waiting a long with us.Didnt make sense what he said when we repeatedly asked why we cant be seated at those seats. In return he was accusing of rubbish. Almost treated as second class customers asking us to sit at communal table out in the cold.Dont know or dont care if the place is nice or its food or drinks..if they cant treat customers well, then they failed basic 101 of being a good business.

All u can say is damn good pizza! We had a vegetarian pizza that we loaded up with mushrooms, onions, jalapenos and garlic and it was done to perfection! Went here with a fairly large sized group and they were able to get us seated and our orders fairly quickly and always made sure to check in on us. Our service was quite good. The pizza is very similar to the pizzas I ate back in Italy. Light sweet tomato sauce, thin crust, and roasted fire flavor. The sweet and spicy pizzas are in fact very spicy. but it was delicious. They also have a yellowish spicy oil on every table and it goes well with the pizza. I gave only 3 stars on the service because the wings we ordered came very late and we had to keep asking for water all the time. Overall I enjoyed this place very much including the music art decor, and the dark green light bathroom where they have a small ancient TV playing old cassette 📼 video tapes in it. Hahaha I would totally recommend this place. 👌

Customer service was lackluster and brutish from the start; I felt uncomfortable but would be willing to overlook that if the food was on point.There were three of us and we had reservations for 7. The ambiance was bland and uninviting. When we were brought to our table, my chair was dirty and I had to wipe stuff off of it. One person in my party ordered a cocktail and when they delivered it to the table they spilled some on the table and didnt apologize or wipe it off.One of us ordered the burger. It was small, the bun was flat, and the meat was dry. There was no lettuce or tomato or onion on it as promised on the menu. In-N-Out makes a much better burger. It came with small potatoes and I tried one and they had no seasoning or flavor.I ordered a pepperoni pizza and there was hardly any pepperoni. The sauce had no salt, pepper, garlic, onion, or herbs; all necessary for a robust sauce. The dough was limp and soggy and I couldnt hold it. Dominos makes a much better pizza for half the price.Cant believe the bill was over $100 and this place stays in business.

Manager (Eddie?) is rude and incompetent. After a year of going here regularly we wont be back. Never have been treated that disrespectful in a restaurant. For Sunday lunch in a restaurant that claims to be family friendly its unusual to be called out if your 3 year old isnt fully invisible and quite. If a child is too loud there are perfectly polite and acceptable ways for restaurant staff to address it. The manager choose to be rude and aggressive and refused to apologize for his behavior afterwards making a scene in front of the other guests waiting.

Five-star food. Just about everything is superb.Sometimes there’s a little “we know we’re cool and now think we’re a little better than everyone else” vibe. That’s always sad when that happens to the best spots. But USUALLY I can get away without feeling like that walking in. But a few years ago, we ate in, but my mother wanted some food to go (she wasn’t with us) for us to bring home to her afterwards. They came back and told us everything was put in, except “Chef said we cannot make the beet salad to go.” When I asked them to double-check that, they came back and shortly repeated more of the same, explaining something about the quality of food and certain things being better for take-away then others. But I mean, good pizza is kinda important to have hot and not reheat too long (or it’ll dry out and the crust will get hard), and that was fine to take home. And I explained we lived walking distance away and it would be enjoyed right away. Anyway, that didn’t matter apparently. But at the end of the day, I don’t care what you’re charging. It’s friggin’ pizza. And we’re now actually talking about a beet salad from a pizza joint. Are we really getting this serious now? It was just…more of this nose in the air stuff that’s not in the spirit of what I wish this place was.Anyway, for those bothered by this and not put off by our own reactions to this (which I get, to come degree, if that’s you), we then came up with a simple solution. I asked for the beet salad “for here” before we left. When it came, I said I was full and asked for it to be boxed up to-go. Problem solved. Small victories in life, ya know?Anyway, don’t let that stop you from enjoying pricey but fantastic pizza and a good atmosphere. Honestly. That other situation was years ago anyway. Still super lame. But whatever. The food NEVER disappoints. That’s the important part. And fun side note: the bathroom is worth a visit. Hard to say if it’s cool…? I don’t know what cool is, clearly. But it’s definitely a “thing.” Enjoy.

Read this in it’s entirety. This place started off with the right intentions and vision. Solid pizzaiolo from Brooklyn (Roberta’s) and local executive chef (Ross Hanson). They established a solid Brooklyn pizza space in 2012-2013. Since 2017 much of this has gone downhill. Seems like ownership has changed within the family since then and management has also changed a result. Management feels it’s appropriate to set their own hipster Draconian rules - eg set amount of time at a table, set gratuity for servers that barely service you (you order when you enter), backwards policies on COVID-19 (im an infectious diseases expert), and a big plate of self-righteousness, rudeness and hipster thuggish behavior. I was with my 11 month old in my arms and was cursed at by the GM. If you want good pizza. This is a good choice, but think about ordering out. If you want a nice family meal, rethink your choices here. This is not the place.

This restaurant charges illegal and unethical surcharges on top of the bill to pay for min wage for employees in addition to the tip. When I brought this to the manager’s attention, he was extremely rude.It’s not the responsibility of customers to pay the minimum wages for employees and that too in an expensive restaurant to fill the pockets of the owner.

Was very excited to try them as we had heard gods things. Overall it was a miss from the beginning. Let me first say I hate when I have to order a head of time and get back in line if I want more of anything. The line to order was short but moved super slow and they failed to hear our beer order so we did not get it and did not feel like going through the line again.I thought the best part was the meatball appetizer. I’ve been here once before. My second visit was less pleasant than the first. Host had trouble working the Apple Pay processing so he took an attitude with me. I then used the physical card instead. My favorite spot in the South Bay for pizza.For reference, I’ve only had pizza and drinks here. I loved their menu as a vegetarian- they had fantastic cheese and topping pairings and could adjust anything on the menu to remove the meat. However, what keeps me coming back as a vegan is their marinara pizza with blistered capers. It’s incredibly simple, there’s no vegan cheese- however, the flavors are spot on. I should probably try some of their other pizzas at some point…I also highly recommend the non alcoholic drinks, they make some very good mocktails!

I had the seasonal How the Grinch Stole Christmas pizza and my husband got the seasonal trout. My pizza was fine, a little burnt on the outside crust, but not too bad. My husband received his trout undercooked. We were told that was how the dish was supposed to be served, but it felt like they might have just been giving an excuse for the undercooked fish. The wait staff were very nice and cooked him a new fish, but I had already finished my dish by the time it came out. The wait staff were very nice, but the food was just okay.

I normally would have given five stars on this review. As the pizza here and drinks are Second To None. The owner is a super cool dude and theyre in a really prime location. Great for happy hours and snacks. However, on her most recent visit we had a pizza delivered to our table that look like it had been thrown together. And when we asked the waiter about it he flatly remarked, what do you want me to do about it? Then he brought over a manager who was even more rude. Later on we were essentially asked to leave after spending close to $400 in order to make space for incoming patrons. Ive never heard of such a thing. We went on to another spot, and when we came back we were treated extremely rude again. Ill probably be waiting until they find new staff members before returning. As I do really love the food.

The pizza was very good, one of the best tasting neapolitan style pizzas imo. I also had a mulled wine, which was very good. Service was a bit slow considering the cook time for this style of pizza is very quick. After putting in our order, we sat down, waited about 30 minutes for our order. One pizza arrived and we waited for the second one, but it never came. I did my calculations and realized that the hostess did not ring me up for the other pizza, so I had to go back to put the order in. It took about 40 additional minutes. Price was a bit steep though and together with drinks, tax and mandatory gratuity, came out to about $40 a person, which is about double what we will normally will pay for a pizza night out, but it was really good, so I can only complain a little. I would go back, but not often.

My family and I live downtown LG and have been going to Oak and Rye for years. Typically I am disappointed every time I visit, mainly due to the lack of service, however tend to return because of the food. After tonight, I will NEVER return. The fact that they charge 18% for no service and having to order from the hostess ahead of schedule is absurd. After ordering tonight with my family, I asked to speak to a manger to discuss why they are charging 18% gratuity for no service. She exclaimed it was managements decision and that I had no choice. I then asked if we could get the food to go and if the 18% would still be charged, figuring they is no way this could be the case. Unbelievable to me, they still were going to charge us 18% gratuity for take out food.....CRAZY. $25.96 for a medium pizza is nuts. Money is not an issue and I have no problem paying for good service and food, and typically tip 20% but this is NUTS. I live nearby and walk my dog past this spot every night. I decided to stop in for a drink with my wife ended up staying for a few of them. We also split a pretzel and a margarita pizza. Both food items were good. Service was great and the bartender and staff were super friendly. They have a pretty good selection of whiskey, and a good sized pour. There is a fair amount of seating, maybe a dozen or so tables inside. There is additional outside seating and they will turn on a heater for you. There is also some seating at a small bar if youre alone or just there for a few drinks. I definitely recommend checking them out.

This place definitely has some pros and cons. The hostesses are always lost and have no idea what they’re doing which can be frustrating... we seem to always get seated at the high top table which you have to sit on these high benches and then you’re sitting and bending over in this uncomfortable position which always makes my back hurt by the time we leave. I’ve asked to sit elsewhere but have been told that it’s for bigger parties (since we go as a party of 2) which is unfortunate...I’ve had many fire oven pizzas in my life and none of them have had burnt areas on them. I noticed all the pizzas come out like that and I guess some people like it but I just eat around the burnt areas since the rest of the pizza is always delicious. My husband got a flank steak from there before and we were disappointed to see that is was $30 for a tiny steak with no sides but the steaks was very delicious so... like I said pros and cons. Love this place, one for its yummy pizzas, two for its decor, three because its in the lovely Los Gatos downtown. The inside is warm and cozy and outside seating is charming. They make good Neapolitan style like pizzas. We love the margherita. If you are hungry, easily one person can eat one whole. They have good beers as well. I have been here two times and the first time the waiter messed up our order, have is a pasta with meat when we specifically asked for a vegetarian one and requested to make it without the meat to which they agreed. When the dish was served they also served it saying it was without meat as requested. But it ended up having all the meat in there. When we showed it to them they brought us another one without seeming apologetic about the error. We forgave that one time thinking its a one off. But they are super crowded, especially in weekends, and totally probable to miss details on the order so be careful and double check if you ordered something altering one on the menu. Im talking off a star because of missing the attention to detail. Otherwise, we like this place for the pizzas.

Im pretty sure this is my favorite pizza place in the area. Love the pizza here. I walk by the place daily with my dogs on a walk I noticed an item people were ordering so I stepped in to go . I ordered a chicken sandwich no slaw . The price with surcharge was over $18. This was our favorite restaurant addition when it first opened in Late 2013 - it was sooo different from the date and less-than-exciting restaurant scene in Los Gatos. This place felt plucked out of SF or NY and an awesome 80s vibe wrapped up with natural hard wood, glass, and a wood fired pizza oven covered in pennies. The food was unique and excellent at the time. They had it all.As time went on the food started rotating off-menu permanently. Some pizza names had to be changed due to trademark (e.g. goodbye TMNT). But, then the pizzas themselves started dropping from the menu. You could always order from the secret menu if you knew what to ask for. Then the most amazing appetizer/secondary dishes started disappearing – Gnocchi that was to die for. They even came for the shredded brussel sprouts. I cannot begin to tell you how great these things were for a table outside on the patio that was waiting on a couple of pizzas to share.The fun, exciting, and vibrant service started retreating with all of these changes and today in 2020 you walk in and are not really greeted as much as a problem to be dealt with. Thankfully many other restaurants have stepped up their game in the surrounding area – including great pizzas, weve been content with going once or twice a year. But, well always fondly remember the fun days of Oak & Rye – be sure to try their cocktail namesake if they havent yet removed it. :)

I have to say that this was by far my worst dining experience since moving to the Bay area in 2015. My girlfriend and I regrettably decided to give this place a try after a wonderful classical concert. We ordered cocktails, which were about as enjoyable as a bottle of Robitussin. Are you still waiting on your steak? 10 minutes later, another server comes by to inform me that they ran out of skirt steak - something they could have told us 45 minutes earlier to avoid wasting our time.The new server then offers us a free pizza, which I didnt want - especially since the table next to us waited around 35 minutes just to get theirs. They offered a gift card, which I thought was a pretty ridiculous gesture as this point considering that the service was so awful. What they *should* have done is comped a significant portion of the meal.Needless to say, we will never return to Oak & Rye. I was so disappointed. I read the reviews carefully because I rarely go to Los Gatos and was taking my 4 month old puppy out with me and my friends after seeing the Fantasy of Lights- There was many reviews stating this was a very dog friendly spot with great food. I was truly looking forward to checking this place out. What a surprise- after we were seated outside on a chilly night so we can have me puppy there. She was asleep on my lap, and I was told she had to sit on the ground due to health reasons. There was no one else sitting outside with us and she was so quiet. My friends and I ate quickly, didn’t enjoy our meal at all. This is NOT a dog friendly place in my eyes .I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone wants to bring their puppy here.

Im at a loss for words. This place should only serve pizza and beer. We ordered martinis which were terrible, extremely small and way over priced with old olives. The entrees, flank steak looked like left over scraps from someone elses dinner with absolutely no sides for $29 and the half chicken looked like it came from Safeway up the street on a bed of hard kale for $24. They are serving expensive wine which makes no sense at all. Stick with being a pizza joint because thats basically what it is. We left hungry and dissatisfied after spending $200. Ridiculous.

It was close to 7pm and over 7 open tables and they were insisting on sitting us at a tiny cramped table because we were just two. We ordered off their special menu...and the fish sandwich came also boring....2 pieces of fried fish on a bun slightly dressed with melted american cheese....and a side of undressed Arugula. We’ve been dining at Oak & Rye for the last 3 or 4 years and it’s one of our favorite spots in Los Gatos. Only until yesterday, when I couldn’t explain the very unprofessional behavior of the so called “manager”. We ordered the NY steak along with couple other items. The steak came with corn-bacon succotash which was listed on the menu, but I honestly didn’t pay attention to that. I kindly asked the waitress to substitute that with fries, said she can’t, so I asked just Re-plate it without the succotash. Manager came out and spoke to us assertively infringe if the neighboring guests ( you would know what I mean if you dined their outside): “ clearly the menu states it has succotash, slammed the menu again on the table and asked me to make sure I’m OK with the chicken ingredients before he sends it to the kitchen as if I don’t know how to read a menu. He really lacked the class for a manager with regulars; restaurant hospitality is not scolding your guests if they asked for a change or slam a menu in their face on a shared table with other guests. Totally uncalled for. He has to remind himself that people are paying for the service and not getting anything for free. Disappointing and arrogant!!

Horrible service.Waited 55 min to be seated after being told the wait would be 25 min and didnt realize we had been passed up several times until the couple we were chatting to (who arrived after us) got called before us. Started with a pleasant tasting draft beer and as an afterthought ordered the potato chips. All I can say is start bagging them. They were out of this world. Worst treatment I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I came in with a group of 10 people and they pushed two tables together for us. Then another employee, Eric, came back and said the needed one of our tables for other customers. A second employee, who looked like a teenager, shoved me, and without saying anything walked past me to move the table. I was stunned. My friend asked the first employee for his name. When we came back in 45 mins they said it will take another 20.I pointed out we dont mind sitting on two adjacent tables that were free. They said it will take a few mins to set.
